Coatings themselves aren't bad in my view, it's just that a decent coating costs $$$. For those on an extreme budget they should be looking to make sure they get full 316L steel to make sure they have quality material, instead of a base metal that wont last.

It's an improvement over pic related to say the least ,minus the two Raketa's that went on the same path as the Challenger. But i do miss having more colorful collection.
Though being a military contractor i really don't think i would/should wear these vintage watches to work (Unless they are cheapo slav watches).

Then there's Seiko SBGM(?)001(?) (really pulling the model from my ass) which has a beautiful dial, terrible font, very good case finishing, some stone or pearl on the crown n shit, basically a better in every way SARB, also would be somewhat around your budget

Also consider Hamilton if you don't like any of the Seikos, I like a couple of the Jazzmaster models and the Intra-matic myself. I guess there's also lots of microbrands. You could get a very nice watch for $500 if you're willing to go vintage too, but that will take some research.

It would probably have more to do with how much effort Seiko puts into regulating it than with any actual mechanical differences between the two movements. So the Malaysian child slave worker building your 4R watch might try to regulate it a bit better than he would for a 7S watch and the 4R movement should also be manufactured to a higher standard of quality control. It has a lot to do with just luck, too.

I've been considering trading in my Sinn 144 for an Omega X-33 (Gen1 or preferably Gen2). The 144 is a pilot's style watch but the X-33 has been used in space and flight which makes it a bit neater.

That's what everyone has been parroting but it hasn't been confirmed, and I think its EXTREMELY unlikely that they would replace the skx007 design by a design like the turtle, which although I personally like, is very polarizing.
The only source that people cite as it being discontinued is a single hodinkee article, and it was mentioned passively. I think that if it was discontinued, we would for absolutely sure know it.

The specific magnet in that phone's speaker is one thing I can not speak to. But phones can and do magnetize watches, which does not ruin them, just effects the accuracy until demagnetized.
I don't know watches. I wear the Casio F-91meme, but would like a watch with more features such as multiple clocks, multiple alarms, a timer, and a toggle for the backlight. I'd prefer it to be the same size as the F-91W, or smaller. Any recommendations?

Very old watches used lume based on radium. Radium is radioactive but has a half life of about 1600 years, so a watch with radium lume should still theoretically be about as bright as it was new.
In 1968, the use of radium in paints was banned because it is very toxic and the people who applied the paint often had serious health problems, if you want to read about it then look up the Radium Girls court case from 1927. Radium was replaced by tritium, which is also radioactive but much safer. Tritium has a half life of about 12 years, so that lume gets dimmer over time and after about 3 or more half lives (watches which are 35+ years old) the lume becomes too dim to see. It also turns brown over time which a lot of vintage watch collectors think looks nice (pic related).
Tritium was pretty much phased out for the vast majority of watches around the 1990s and replaced by the compounds still used today. Those compounds are not radioactive so they shouldn't really decay. I don't think that type of lume really degrades much over time, but I guess it hasn't been around long enough to tell.
