What is this, the early 90s? You're surrounded with electronic devices that can tell you the time, why carry one more that does nothing else?

You look like this, no amount of glorified jewelry will help you.

I work retail and we aren't allowed our phones on the shop floor. There's another anon that works for a military contractor and can't have any electronic devices.

It's also a lot easier to just tilt my wrist to quickly check the time than to fish my phone out of my pocket.

I don't even know why I'm responding to this b8.

Function is kinda on the same level as compass or slide rule in the era of smartphones.

It's just a blingy thingy to have on arm purely because some people find it aesthetically pleasing.

You don't need all the numerals on the dial, there's enough space on a clean dial for 24 indices. Why not make another movement for the minutes or invent something?

I completely agree with this guy.
Having a mechanical watch and drooling over something as simple (yes, in 1830+ 186 A.D. it most certainly IS simple) and backward as a mechanical movement is really autistic and frowned upon by anyone who cares about themselves.

Also, the 'my mechanical watch doesnt have to have its battery changed, so there's that' argument is kinda lame. Newsflash, you'll have to have it serviced (opened, exposed and probably mishandled) before I even have to change the battery in my quartz wrist watch.

Nah, I'm pretty sure you have to be slightly autistic to spend so much time arguing over variables in a simple mechanical movement meant to unwind a soft metal coil and by doing so, more or less, often less accurately telling time. did you only have the one? or did you have like a case of them.

watched the underwold inc episode on fakes last night, was really interesting

"you know someone changing their life when they go from drugs to handbags, ive been to jail 5 times now for counterfits, never served more than a year"

dude says as long as he doesnt get caught with more than like 3 items at a time, max he's serving is 30 days.

its like a max of 2 years in most states.

fuck dealing drugs, start moving fake gucci.
become a millionaire over night

There was even one of the watch guys who makes his own fakes, gets a mosh of real/fake parts then builds, and sells them for about half of retail, fucking ridiculous, he sold a fake diamond covered watch for the price of a new submariner.

the fake market is absolutely crazy.

It was in my shoe under a jacket, and I was in a hurry because I was late for my flight when I grabbed my stuff and threw my shoes on and walked off.

Then I realized and went right back.. made them look at the security footage, they said they "didnt see anything". Filed a police report and missed my flight and had to take a later one.

So yeah I refused to move as soon as I noticed it, but walking away screwed me over.

Got a police report saying it was "lost" and filed an insurance claim that was approved. Still, would love my watch back.

>>53665817
Yeah, but the shit you posted was also just as in need of service as his own movement.

You're not talking about buying a new Seiko 5 to not service an old one, you're talking about buying a jalopy to replace an existing jalopy so you don't have to service it.
>>
>>53666147
That's not what I said, I said that a working movement is as cheap as €37 (remember my movement needs repairing, read substitute the winding stem which costs €10 anyway) AND a serviced watch like that would cost less than the servicing.

All the Bambinos are similar in terms of stuff like quality, it's mostly just looks that differ. In my view v1 has some of the best looks, v2 some of the worst. But it's not like you're getting a crappier watch if you go v2, just a different looking one.

How autistic is this? It's pretty damn big.

My mother is a marathon runner and she got a new Garmin running watch to track miles, heart rate, etc. and she gave me the old one.

Could someone pull it off when not running?
>>
>>53660874
Actually closer to 40K, it leads targets, automatically adjusts for range and wind, IFF capabilities, can identify enemy sight systems, has a 500PPI display and a built in rangefinder.
>>
>>53667325
Even if it wasn't 2big4u it would look awful as an every day watch
>>
these watch threads are always terribad

/g/ has such horrible taste in timepiece design, no sense of subtlety, the grossest neckbeard wire-hair wrists, and no sense of how to size a watch for your wrist's proportion

it's not

>le minimal sub 30mm watch!

Just don't wear a watch sized for a navy seal when you have pencil thin unix autist arms. If you wear a watch wider than your wrist, you fucked up real good

But I do.
You genuinely sounded like a movado-wearing coastal city girl though.

Here.

Picked up that GSTP, popped the back off, and for the life of me, I cannot determine the movement. The only markings are "Swiss Made", no jewel count, no movement model, nothing.

No branding on the dial. Only markings being "swiss made".

But hey. It works atleast.

GSTP anon here again.

Found what appears to be the movement.
It looks to be a Swiss Made Heinrich Moser, the exact movement I'm not sure, but it is featured in the C1900 pocket watch that was sold in Russia. The Swiss made watches with this movement into the 30's, which would explain how a Russian movement ended up inside of a Swiss-made, British-issue, pocket watch during WW2.

I guess I've seen some posts about 39mm MUT, but what about the Geophysic and Memovox for example?

You need to feed it attention first.

We're around.

If you like the idea of a watch replacing a hand with a disk, you should look into the Zodiac Astrographic as well. That uses a clear disk with a hand on the clear disk to create a floating effect.

You can get a vintage one at a reasonable price.
>>
>>53666792

I'd most likely want to do it myself. It'd probably be less expensive and wouldn't take much to do.

Diving watches are only big because of the aesthetic/design right? Unless diving is waaaaay more common of a activity then I think
>>
>>53669288
Why would how common the activity be have anything to do with it? If diving had a specific requirement for size, for example, it would have that requirement regardless of how popular diving was.
>>
>>53669338
I think he means big in the sense of popular.

They look nice, James Bond wore one, they're rugged and reliable even if you're not a diver, there are lots of diving watches out there which means a large variety to choose from.

It's close at 41mm diameter. The older Sinn 157 is similar case shape and 40mm diameter.

I thought the crystal looked pretty clean when I went to take the pictures, the dust matches a bit with the silver dial but sticks out against the dark part of the minute hand and shadowed part at the top of the dial.

The subsidiary second hand also looks like it's made out of moldy cheese in this picture, I feel like the subdial texture is fucking with the camera a little bit.

For those who don't know this is a Habring2 Chrono COS. So it has subseconds at 9 oclock, as well as the large hour and minute hand center. And you can see both the chronograph seconds and chrono minutes (large arrowhead) pointing to 12. COS is crown-operation-system, as all watch functions are done thru the crown and there are no additional holes drilled in the case for chronograph pushers. That's cool from case integrity perspective, including preserving water and dust resistance by drilling fewer holes, as well as just a clean look. Most people would not identify it as a chrono from a distance, or even up close unless they actually sort of knew what they were looking at.

Habring uses Hirsch as their strap provider, so while mine is branded as habring2, it is made by Hirsh. Mine is black sailcloth, and I'm really damn impressed with it. The strap is very very comfortable. and I just sort of like the look of it overall.

It's called moire https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moir%C3%A9_pattern

Monopusher chrono is a pretty cool feature too, that's actually a pretty neat watch. It's 7750 based, right? But obviously modified a lot. I like that dial a lot except for the numerals. I would have preferred actual leather myself but I guess that strap looks good.

Certainly way less ugly than your Credor or your blind man watch.

>>
>>53669885
It's not a monopusher because it doesn't use the crown as a pusher. You turn the crown to start, stop and reset the chrono.

So one of the reasons watches went to having two chronopushers from the old monopusher design so you could start -> stop -> and choose to start again instead of reset if needed -- having two pushers allows that functionality. This chrono can actually do that, compared to a monopusher which can't.

If you view this image >>53669886 You can see the gear that is turned by the crown in the lower right, it's turned, rather than pushed. Counter clockwise turn of crown clicks it into place turning the chrono on. Returning it to the starting position turns it off, and turning it clockwise past the starting position turns it off.
>>
>>53669961
>and turning it clockwise past the starting position turns it off.
I meant to say resets it. So you can turn it on and off as much as needed before finally turning it clockwise past start to reset.
>>
>>53669810
