>>
>>53668853

The picture doesn't do the lighting much justice, having orange Firewatch backgrounds match the actual orangeness of the keyboard makes it look super nice in my opinion.

They keyboard is caseless, there's a small machined piece of rubber underneath it with holes to make it sit flush on it.

It's actually the Poker II (PCB says Poker Pro K61A), and was sold as the Ducky Mini here in Finland, not many 60%'s available here and importing means +25% VAT, prices are stupid high.

I guess I should specify that these aren't Cherry browns, but Gateron browns. They feel pretty nice to me. The options for this particular product (Ergodox EZ) were black (loud), blue (loud), green (loud), red (no tactile), or yellow (no idea how yellows are), so brown it was. no regrets.

Neither is better than the other, but they feel so entirely different from one another that you can't really compare them.

Topre feels like a rubberdome (alas, is one), but a really nice and snappy one.

who /ergodox/ here? Going to buy one next month. Does a better ergonomic keyboard even exist? I mean - without being a gynormous behemoth like the kinesis contour one...
Also - best tactile switches? Never used an actual mechanic keyboard, but bought myself a tester yesterday and tried all of the most common cherry MX switches. The ones I liked the most were clears and browns, though in the last ones the bump was almost non-existant
>>
>>53678639
Switches are a matter of preference, but seeing that you preferred clears over browns, I'd strongly suggest you go with those.
>>
So I 'upgraded' my Logitech G15 to a mechanical Cherry browns keyboard. I am having trouble with it though because I am not a touch typist (I hunt and peck and don't use all my fingers) and I keep hitting the fucking caps lock key like a retard! Maybe it's time to learn to touch type.
>>
>>53678652
probably I will. The reason I asked for the alternative is that falbatech.pl has got only a couple of those switches I know nothing about, such as gaterons and greentech
>>
>>53678639
>Does a better ergonomic keyboard even exist?
Like a lot of things, this is subjective. A bunch of people complain about the dox's thumb cluster being in an awkward position, for example. Generally, the vanilla ergodox is missing out on some negative tilt and tenting, and a curved profile would probably be even better. The Dactyl keyboard is a curved, 3D-printed thing that exists.

>Also - best tactile switches?
Topre or Alps. If I may go all my-opinion-is-fact, fuck cherryshit.

>>53678725
Gaterons are nice (mostly because they're smoother, which is mostly noticeable on linears).
>>
>>53678721
touch type is worth the time you spend on it, believe me. The last year I was hunt'n'pecking too, but then I learnt to touchtype, and it's awesome. No need to look at your keyboard anymore while typing and shit saves you a lot of time. I'd pick an alternative layout, though, if I were you - qwerty is destructive on wrists.

Left shift holds no purpous except when holding it down - easy to do when typing. Right shift is held down when doing punctuation above it. It makes sense to have a big right shift and a clear open area for punctuation, not interupted by a 2.75u enter

>1u doesn't make a difference
1u is the difference between being able to comfortably hit left shift+z with pinky/s with ring/etc.
Having to move your pinky less is a big deal when it's already the smallest finger on your hand, and the ring finger next to it isn't particularly big either.

>>53685306
>Wants clear area for punctuation
>Moves \| out of said area
?
>>
>>53685331
Nah, 3/4 of the comma. I looked it up.

>>53685352
Oh. Anyway, you hold down left shift with your left hand and type a right-side punctuation with your right.
>>
>>53685380
>>53685331
what is one u? 3/4"?
>>
>>53685368
Completely unused punctuation, get it outta here!
I don't think I've ever used left shift except for gayms, I always use my right pink on right shift with my ring on enter and index/middle on punctuation when capitalising/punctuating
faster than ANSI, I've used both
>>53685380

1u = 1 standard keycap, i.e q cap or g cap

>>53685380
>3/4 of comma
that would make it 5.75u
>>
>>53685434
It's only efficient to use right shift on ISO because it's the same distance from home row as the left shift.
On ANSI it's closer so it's more efficient.

>faster than ANSI, I've used both
>Use primarly ISO, hurr why am I better at typing on ISO
>>
>>53685452

>Use ANSI on my imported gaymur keyboard, it was £30 cheaper than a UK one
>Learn to touch type on that
>go back to ISO after a few years
>Its much quicker
>americans tell me ANSI is quicker when they've only used ANSI

ISO is more efficient. Important punctuation in one area, slightly less important on number row and completely unused barged next to left shift so it is a proper size
>>
>>53685499
Dunno, but it's the same on every keyboard. It just is a measurement, No matter what board on what switch 1u = 1u

Also even if ANSI had +1 key, there's nothing to actually put on that key to begin with.

Razer will reluctantly offer Cherry switches as a choice again after probably losing a ton of market share.
Watch as mister Ding-Dong here tries to justify the existence of their more expensive "made for gaming" switches.

>ok, Cherry may have over 20 years of experience
>b-but China makes more quality than other country!

>b-but the gamers we hired to shill our product like them more!

They're even switching their board designs to be more like Corsair with the keys floating outside the case. Macro keys and gamer font are gone too. It's like they realized that their previous design decisions make their product look like a toy.

Not true. When touch-typing, you generally type appreciably slower on rubber-dome keyboards since you need to take the time to ensure that the key has truly activated.

The switch tester should give you a good idea of how Topre switches feel, but doesn't tell you what difference the plate and case makes. The sliders shouldn't make much difference.
The Novatouch's internals are Topre, even the PCB. However, the design is slightly less sturdy than something like a Realforce.
The HHKB has a plastic plate which creates less noise than a metal one.
The Leopold FC660C is a lot heavier than it looks because of an extra sturdy design.
