An escape or win key artisan is fine if it fits the theme.
Replacing the whole function row is full retarded.
What does /mkg/ think of Romer-G switches?
>>53640674
Worse than browns. Less tactile, lower travel distance, wobbles... And stock keycaps are pretty shitty and impossible to replace with better ones.
The switch itself is well built tho, probably more resistent than cherry. Omron usually does well on that part.
>>53641289
What switches are better than browns?
>>53641503
Tactile ones? Clears, Ergo Clears, Zealios, Matias Quiet Click, Gateron browns.

a question for you 60% guys. when programming i often use the shortcut ctrl+shift+arrow keys to move a set of highlighted lines around and i feel this would be uncomfortable with all the different ways to map arrow keys on 60%s.

Will this work for wiring switches?
One end goes to a pin, the other goes all together into ground.
I don't need diodes and such if I'm not doing a matrix, right?
>>53643673
hint: what will the reading on a pin be if the key isn't pressed? what will it be if it is pressed?

From my limited understanding of this wizardry, on when not pressed, and off when pressed.
>>53643568

Is there anything out there for me , /g/
>>53646475
>>I could get a pok3r RGB and replace the switches
I'd suggest you just get a pok3r with greens. Desoldering and resoldering LEDs is a horrible pain.
>>53646542
Is it not possible to just switch the stems/springs?
The regular pok3r isnt RGB. and there is no RGB pok3r with greens.
I realize it's fuss about rice but hey, rice is nice.
>>53646645
>Is it not possible to just switch the stems/springs?
Not without desoldering the switches (and thus the LEDs).
>>53646658
goddamn it, why are there so many posts about switching switch type by just popping off the switch housing?
Did i miss something?
>>53646685
that only works when the switches are PCB mounted, or if the plate has notches that let you get to the switch top release hole thingies.
>>53646685
Certain plate cutouts allow for it, PCB mounted switches allow for it.
The pok3r doesn't fulfill these conditions, and you'd have to desolder anyway since the LED goes through the switch casing and sits on the top part of it.
>>53647834

Finally got to try out a Novatouch today, and I didn't want to accept what I felt...
My god does it feel EXACTLY like a Logitech G510. I sat there for 30 minutes, unplugged, just feeling it.
The only difference is that when you bottom out hard it feels better because of the heavy KB and mounting of the switch. However, the tactility and "soft bottoming" was identical to the Logitech 'gaming' series of membrane keyboards.
>>53654515
hot opinions there bucko
>>53654569
Aww did I touch a nerve?
I'm sorry bud, didn't mean to trigger anything or rape you...
is a hhkb2 worth the price? I've never used a mechanical keyboard before, and I don't know if I should get the hhkb2 or a cheaper ducky one ktl (for example).
if it's important, I don't play games at all
>>53655009
Get the ducky, get your feel for Cherry switches and the different clicks and clacks you can choose from.
You don't want to spend $200+ making a lateral move in keyboards, your first time.
>>53654515
Because it's just a better rubberdome, no one denies it. But it's a really, really good rubberdome.
>>53655190
I deny it, because the two were comparable.
I was thinking it would blow my mind, and its price would be justified. Hell no.
Maybe Topre are the really really good rubberdomes, I haven't tried them, but this Novatouch TKL is complete fucking bullshit.
>>53655061
I was under the impression that hhkb2 used topre switches; are these not much different from cherry switches (I assume this from your post)? I ask because if they're very different, I don't see the practicality in testing the cherry switches.
I am not trying to be rude and disregard your advice, I ask because I am uninformed
So has anyone had an experience with Chinese keyboards? There's one that's pretty cheap ~$59 USD that has hot swappable switches.
>>53655556
It's really not worth it unless you're actually going to swap the switches every week. The build quality is dubious at best, which the switches getting wobbly and parts breaking.
Not to say you can't make good deals buying Chinese. But please try to spend at least $70 and get a switch brand that is at least somewhat known.
i'm not sure what else i can do, i got the corsair strafe cherry silent for 120.
Is that it? what do we talk about? i just wanted something smooth that was quiet with light options.

be careful when you join a gb
even a seasoned and trusted member like ivan may not complete it and youll be out of your money
some guy on leddit said he was out $500 on the black on black gb
>>53656373
We have a folklore about Ivan the Fool. I said he's not a fool
>>53645153
I didnt know its standardized now. Dont they not use cherry switches anymore though?
>>53645153
i was a fool
it was my first board and i didnt know
>>53656036
>0.3
I have a 0.2 somewhere.
For me, the best keyboard is the wasd code with MX Cherry blue
>>53656736
I have a standardized Choc Mini with Gateron Blue switches. As Gateron switches are Obviously Superior™ I don't really mind. "Standardized" really only means bottom row modifiers though--the right shift key is still Capslock size (not a huge problem, lot of keycaps sets these days accommodate for that) and the 5.5u spacebar (huge problem, you ain't swappin in out unless you essentially get something custom made).
Love the board regardless. It's the perfect layout (especially once you've switches the Capslock and Ctrl switches). Wished I got it in black though, as the light-tan case looks pretty cheap.
>>53656036
>who the fuck can use a 0.3mm i had one once and only used it for the novelty, it was like writing with a fishhook
Not for writing. They are only for drafting.
>fuck i love these
They are just perfect.
>but seriously,
>>master race
This is nice for writing or working with wood. Have a bunch of them too.
I worked for Staedtler for about 12 years. They produce at really high standards.
Considering the CM Storm Novatouch TKL and upgrading the keycaps later, as I don't have the money for them right now. The Topre switches have MX stems so it shouldn't be an issue.
Can anyone present any reasons why I would be much happier with an MX keyboard instead?
Typical use will be mostly coding.
>>53657758
>Can anyone present any reasons why I would be much happier with an MX keyboard instead?
You may or may not prefer mx over topre.
That's all.
Are Topre switches worth the price /g/?
Do the new black Choc Minis really come with PBT keycaps? I have a Choc Pro from several years ago and it has POM caps. I like them, they feel kinda slippery but rugged at the same time. ABS just feels like typing on the smooth sides of Lego blocks, yuck. How does PBT compare?
>>53642301
I rebound my function layer + c en v to CTRL+SHIFT+ left and right arrow. One of the benefits of the pok3r is programmability
>>53658244
They are worth the price if you want them.
>>53657758
>>53658244
>>53655539
Topre switches feel similar to how GOOD rubber domes do. They have a spring under the dome so they don't wear out or feel mushy like a cheap rubber dome keyboard.
They are actually very nice to type on.
Which is better, MX or Topre, is completely a personal preference. While I think Topre is okay, the crisp click of an MX Green on activation is the perfect feeling to me.
But and try a switchtester. Make sure it is one that is actually powered too, otherwise you can't feel the activation points.
>>53658291
Yeah I have browns at the moment but not really liking them all that much. Sadly most testers only have the MX cluster and don't feature a topre switch
>>53658310
CM Storm switch tester V2 is what you're looking for.
>>53658322
>CM Storm switch tester V2
Thanks anon
>>53658310
Topre is what people imagine browns to be before they get disappointed.
It's a very big price gap though, so I usually advice avoiding it unless you actually have money to spare.
>>53642301
On my keyboard, it's just one extra button. I don't have any pictures at the moment but it's an ansi keyboard with iso enter and 1.5-1-1.5-7-1.5-1-1.5 bottowm row and I have the arrows bound to [;'\ and the fn key set as the right alt (1.5). On a standard keyboard it would take two hands for the shortcut anyway but when using the arrows with my right hand on my custom, my thumb falls naturally on the fn button anyway so if you diy, you'll probably end up with a better solution anyway.
>>53654515
>comparing topre switches to the rubber dome
>not feeling that luxurious intake bump and it's fast debouncing it has to offer
>>53655384
>>53658244
>I was thinking it would blow my mind
It's a different feeling. It can be magical for some, so it becomes an niece.
>Maybe Topre are the really really good rubberdomes, I haven't tried them, but this Novatouch TKL is complete fucking bullshit.
Topre is well known for being one of the most expensive switches.
Hell even the HHKB is still pricey for average user and it's still uses Topre 45g. Just like that HHKB the Novatouch has Topre 45g with abs keycaps instead of pbt but replaceable.
Some people don't mind some sacrifice to get a affordable priced keyboard with Topre.
>>53657758
It's up to personal preference really. Since you'll be coding, any keyboard with topres can help you prevent getting fatigued from typing.
Perhaps get a MX clear, black, green kind of keyboard since you're on a budget.
>I use this keyboard with pbt keycaps as my main for everything from programming, daily browsing, lite gaming, etc.
>pic related type of feeling
I just discovered that this keycap family will be a thing soon.
Fuck DSA caps with their tiny top area, I want to build an ergodox or planck with these.
>>53638725
go back to /reddit/ you fucking massdrop cunt.
>>53658486
A good custom MX board costs more than a Topre.
They really aren't that expensive. If topre's price is scaring you off, you dom't need a mechanical keyboard.
>>53628198
>>53628046
That keyboard isn't cute dude, it's fucking 80s-Miami tier (which, in my opinion, is awesome).
>>53630992
Your hot pink jeans would be pretty good.
>>53642301
The FN arrow keys aren't too bad for the HHKB, but if I have to use my arrow keys for an extended amount of time (such as when playing the smash it game Shower With Your Dad Simulator 2015: Do You Still Shower With Your Dad?) I switch back to my Filco.
>>53654515
Try to use it at least for a week.
You won't be able to come back to cherry and especially to shitty membrane.
>>53658486
>>53659519
Have either of you tried a "nice" Logitech rubber-dome kb?
I'm not talking about the generic Dell feeling, I'm talking about the specifically different Logitech gaymin keyboards. For some reason they have more of a tactile bump than browns, and when compared to the Novatouch, they are so similar that it DOES NOT merit 6x the price.
Logitech is shit, not vouching for them. But Novatouch is snake cum, and buyers remorse / purchase defense is fucking strong with this one.
>>53660289
I am on a NovaTouch right now and my previous board was a gaymen Logitech. The Logitech was utter dogshit in comparison.
>>53660348
What model
>>53660436
G110
so should I get cherry red, cherry brown, or topre you faggots, jesus make up your mind
and why were people saying that some people get disappointed by the feel of browns, what do they expect and how do they actually feel?
>>53660461
I have a G510s, pretty much the same feeling as the Nova
But I understand, you paid all that money, I wouldn't admit they feel similar if I paid for the Novatouch. You're good.
>>53660523
>topre
Similar to rubberdome, questionably better quality
>Brown
Basically a light linear switch, with a very slight bump that feels cheap and to me it is the actual rubberdome equivalent
>reds
Will probably be the most different feeling if you're coming from a membrane kb. Light linear switch with nice clack. You'll fuck up a bunch when you first start typing on it though.
I'm biased towards reds so maybe you shouldn't listen to me.
>>53660523
It's personal preference. My opinion might not match your own.
>>53660534
Yeah, I think the buyer's remorse meme is just about the worst part of /g/. Worse than the "call everything a meme" meme. It demonstrates such contempt for others.
>>53660602
Well I mean you just called buyers remorse a meme meme meme
>>53660662
The meme consists of a person declaring that anyone who likes X just has buyer's remorse, not that buyer's remorse as a concept is a meme.
>>53660289
I had a lot of cheap boards in the past, including logitech.
I also have g710+ with browns, i gave it to my gf.
Topre is much better in every way.
>>53660690
Bro chill, don't contempt me
What can i do with some old buckling spring switches from siemens. I have about 300 switches from terminals and keyboards. Pic related is a old terminal
>>53660745
I stand corrected they are siemens stb 11 or 21 yellow tactile switches
>>53660745
you could desolder them and build a keyboard. Though you'll need keycaps too.
Hey /g/ . I'm looking to buy my first mechanical keyboard
>~$100 (Preferably lower)
> United States
> Browns (good for light gaming?)
> 100%
>Backlight would be great
> Have had a shitty membrane keyboard for all my life. Would love to shift to mechanical.
Currently looking at the Rosewill 9000v2.
>>53661494
Take a look at non-backlit cooler masters, or up your budget by 15 bucks and get a Ducky One
Don't get cherry browns. They suck in terms of tactility compared to any other tactile cherry.
>>53660523
Don't be a faggot and buy some mx blues
So, it happened and this thing landed in my hands. It's my first mechanical keyboard. How much fucked am I? It has Cherry MX red switches.
It was gifted to me.
>>53663269
If you like linear switches and the size, it is a really good keyboard.
>>53663269
I had one of those as my first. I wouldn't get another one, but I'd certainly recommend it to someone who wants an entry-level no gimmick low profile full size keyboard.
I wasn't a huge fan of the keycaps since they led me to make more typos than usual, but the build quality is damn solid. Just be a bit careful with the usb connector, it's a bit loose. The cockslap is off center, so you'll need one of those special ones for that, but most keycap sets come with a second capslock like that, so that shouldn't be much of a problem. Not that you'll have much of an aftermarket keycaps selection for ISO anyway.
Make sure to get the wrist rest for it. It's damn comfy.
Pic related, first mech that started this madness.
>>53663350
Yeah it is quite different in comparison with standard membrane keyboards that I've been using so far. The typing is great and I love listening to it but it is a bit too sensitive for my gaming requirements as I like to rest my fingers on the keys and sometimes I accidentaly press them (especially the A key).
Also I'm getting quite annoying resonations from the top left part of the keyboard when I put it on the stands. The resonating is gone if I hold top and bottom plastic covers together with my hand.
>>53663440
Hmm... Ordered this with blues and a v7 gk110 today, to test some low budget german ISO mechboards.
just installed some blank keycaps, when do I get my "elite hacker" license in the mail?
Can someone give advices ? My K95 just died, I probably deserved it, I should have not bought this piece of shit...

Got the same mouse. Are there any customization options for this board? I'm thinking about using MX blacks on WASD just for the gaming purposes.
>tfw Ganss is out of stock
I'm looking at these qisan knock off boards on amazon and some of them look bretty good
what's the problem?
>>53653177
Confirmed for lack of knowledge
>>53664491
knockoff switches such as kalih tend to have low standards for quality control.
If you're talking about the magicforce, go right ahead and get it. It's actually quite highly regarded given the price.
>>53664325
Ducky Shine 5 or Ducky One.
Preparez votre anus pour les taxes des imports, oui oui fromage.

those mamgicforce keycaps look like absolute trash though

They have an aluminum plate and doubleshot ABS caps. Judging just by the specs sheet I can't complain for the price.

What's a good price to sell my barely used HHKB Pro 2?
Pretty much new, no scratches or wear.
I'd like some advice for my first mechanical keyboard.
Budget is 100 to 250 € (preferably below 200 range)
France
Don't know about switches yet. Was thinking about clears since I may use it at work.
60% preferably or maybe TKL.
Don't care about backlight or layout.
>>53664994
where are you shipping anon?

United States.
Just ordered this and also somehow sliced open the tip of my middle finger
ill let /g/ know if it's shitty or not
got a poseidon zx a couple weeks ago and didn't really like it too much, returned it and found this for sale locally for 50 bucks. I was really wanting a model m anyway, really loving it so far
>he doesn't have a backlit keyboard
but then again i never learned how to type
im glad my thinkpad has a thinklight and backlit kb

It's some kind of nice for the price. Have it with blacks, the only problem is the nonstandard layout - big ass ESC and arrow keys.
