Are 4K TVs worth buying right now or are they just a meme?

Are 4K TVs worth buying right now or are they just a meme?

I use a 40 inch 4k TV as a computer monitor. Glad I didn't fall for the ultrawide meme.
>>
>>52122258

>>
List of 4k content:
>>
>>52122258
No, it's a meme. Wait 5 more years when they'll be cheaper and actually useful.
>>
>>52122494
not even him, but you should try it before you knock it.

40"-45" is currently more useful for more people than 27"-32", since the sharpness bump (~150 dpi) isn't really quite to the point of being great, just better than the ~100 dpi norm.

40"+ 8k will be great though.
>>
>>52122258
just a meme
>>
4K monitors are worthwhile because games, porn, and productivity benefits are all available at 4K.
4K TVs are not worthwhile yet because movies and TV shows are still never higher than 1080p.

>Don't TV's have really shit input lag?

Is 35 shit? I play Battlefield on ps4, no lag whatsoever. I have a 4k sony X810c
>>
>>52122258
are you an adult then get a 4k tv.
are you a basement dweller, get gaming meme monitor
>>
>>52122258
Got a 28inch 4k monitor and its awesome and $100 off when I got it plus it has AMD Freesync for my 390X
>>
No, wait until there's more 4K content. They'll be cheaper by then, too.
>>
For computer monitors, worthwhile if your vision doesn't suck.
TVs lack content (everything is pretty much broadcasted in 720p/1080i on cable/satellite) and 4K content is not widely available.

35 is dogshit for a gaming screen.
Usually gaymen screens are 1ms rated or whatever.

Let me put it this way: I just bought a Tivo Roamio Pro instead of a Tivo bolt. It can stream to up to five other Tivo mini boxes in the house. The new Tivo bolt that does 4K can only do two.

My cableco has no 4K content and no estimate for when it will arrive. Netflix has barely any 4K content too.

I bought the Tivo (which will pay for itself within 2 years and will payback in spades after that) on the assumption of a minimum 5 year lifespan. (I may need to replace the hard drive in the Tivo). If online services get better content selection, then in a few years when 4K TV prices are lower, I can buy a streaming device like the Roku to add it.

Damn really, how come I don't notice it on ps4? I thought anything below 40 you won't notice
>>
>>52123063
its all placebo man, people have been competitive gaming for years now on hardware that you wouldn't even look at today.
Better to blame the monitor/keyboard/mouse/computer for the loss than to say its your fault.
>>
>>52123103
what are you a shill
>>
>>52123116
Of course you wouldn't notice on ps4. You're gaming with a gamepad against other faggots using gamepads.
>>
>>52122258
4K is useful for monitors, not for TVs. Unless you have an 80" TV.
>>
>>52123144
Actually CRT monitors for gaming had nearly 0 response time and much higher refresh rates. The only hardware that got a bit better is mice. Keyboards like mechanical keys are basically placebo for gaming however theyre nice to type on.
>>
>>52123148
The Tivo is much cheaper for me given the assrape prices my cableco charges for shitty DVRs ($20.65 for DVR service and cable box rental a month for shitty hardware that Cisco already declared End-of-life and is long paid off).

Tivo is not the only solution that takes a cablecard. It's the one I went with. Samsung sells cable boxes that take cablecards for a fairly reasonable prices. There's also cablecard adapters and software for Windows and solutions like HDHomeRun.

The greater point is that I bought some hardware knowing it was not 4K because I don't see 4K being that relevant to cable/satellite/broadcast television within the next five years.

And that cablecos are greedy pricks.

>telling people not to get something they don't need is shilling
is this bizarro /g/
>>
Ok well let me just give my over experience since I actually own a well rated 4k TV.

There is a noticeable difference between 1080i on my old Samsung full HD TV and the new 4k TV. When I watch nfl football, the commercials look like their in ultra HD. You can just tell it's an upgrade. Probably the upscaler, Sonys were rated to have the best upscaler. Good for sports, very clear, needed the cable company to come fix the feed though. I binge watch 4k videos on YouTube. Some are like looking through a window. Definitely a noticeable difference between 1080p. I'm now very curious to watch a 4k blu ray. Ps4 looks good. Overall solid TV, it looks noticeably better than my 1080p TV.

Is this a fucking bait
>>
>>52123481
No I based my purchase off two in depth reviews online, then calibrated it to their 10p gamma settings

>or are they just a meme?
You don't seem to know what that word means
>>
>>52122258
I have a 4k monitor I got from a friend's shop for cheap. The one benefit to tv I've seen is that when I set netflix to low quality to save bandwidth it looks way better on 4k. On 1080 the shits all pixelated and low quality but upscaled on 4k it actually looks pretty good. I don't even watch netflix in HD anymore because it looks fine in low quality on 4k. I thought that shit was pretty cool. Haven't hit my data cap in 3 months.

stop making these threads all the time, Normies should stop trying to understand technology they will never use. Please just use your regular tv and your iPad and your windows 10 and stop trying to understand why people would use special technology that gives ultra high resolution. Your Normie brain will never understand this because you are programmed to only buy products that tv advertisement tell you to buy. If you like you can lurk in tv thread where educated people talk about all this tv technology you will never understand
