I bought an R9 390 for $269.99 and an i7 4790k for $259.99 three weeks ago.
The 390 outperforms the 970 in nearly every real-world benchmark, has more than twice the VRAM for 1440p gaming and futureproofing and AMD doesn't feel the need to lie about their product's performance.

I run an 8350 with a GTX970 and I don't see any sign of CPU throttling of games. Fallout 4 generally runs around 30% usage, peaking at 50%.
I figure I'll probably run this for another two years, upgrading the video card some time next year.

I don't want to waste days staring at a benchmarking simulation, crunching the numbers to get 1 or 2 FPSs while risking damaging my CPU in the long run, specially since I'll be moving to a hot-humid area next year.
