Stop answering, the troll has arguments you can not win by reason, so don't waste your time.
And who the fuck cares, there are poeple who like quartz. I like both. If you try to tell people how much better a mechanical watch is against a quartz, you are having superiority complexes and are not better than those fedora wearing hyper atheists/bronies.

My father is gonna be in Japan the coming March, and I was thinking of asking him for some Nippon DM watch.

I already have a SARB017, and not really interested in the other well known models recommended here such as the SARB33/35/65 and so on, I find them a bit boring. Lawyer-core.

Was thinking about one from pic related. SARG15, SARG12, SARW10.

The SRAW10 is beautiful, but I don't think that as a poor 25 year old student I can pull off the rose gold scheme, so I thought on the SARW09 which is the same only in silver and it also resemble the SARX15 which is a plus, but the all black thingy makes it a bit dull.

any other rec?

Give a hardon to a niche of which only a single percent can afford?
Functionally speaking, it's inferior to countless other technologies. The last appeal that remains is purely technological.

So please calm down, mechanical watches are more than open to mockery. They're literally wrist baits.

You can wear whatever you want. Gold goes perfectly with casual clothes, maybe smart casual (nothing baggy, everything well fitted to the body) .

How does amazon usa handle returns? I've bought a sarb 033 a few weeks ago, and flew back to Amsterdam after a week of wearing the watch. After closer inspection I noticed a speck of dirt right above the 3Rd minute marker and in the middle of the 9 indice.

I've contacted the seller and they said they were sorry and just to return it through amazon and they will either refund or repair it for me.

I'd rather get it refunded cause I think I'd rather pay a bit more to get the sdgm003, but I'm not sure if amazon will allow me to and won't just repair it.

I think the sdgm would be nicer cause of the diashield and anti reflective coating, I hope 40mm isnt too big for my wrists though

Pic related, the spec of white dirt I was talking about.

Do the watch you're considering even have the same lug width as your fossil? Seiko's tend to be incompatible with everything else (requiring e.g. 21mm straps when everyone else's 20 or 22).

I recommend leather if you're going to wear it day to day.

Hello there /wt/, I'm back with an update for you all. I've made an update to Trefoil's color scheme, hopefully it looks much better now than it did when I first added color. There is now also a Chalk build of Trefoil, making it possible to use on Pebble Time Round devices.

Unfortunately, the app still remains broken on Aplite devices. I've received no response or indication of a fix happening anytime soon, and I've waited more than a month. The issue's page is here if any other developers have encountered the problems I have, and would like to comment:

https://github.com/pebble/pebblejs/issues/99

As always, I've released my source code under the MIT license. Enjoy, and feel free to fork:

https://github.com/gitgud-software/trefoil
>>
>>51655296
For NATOs it's easy: Just don't get anything below 5$ and you'll pretty much be settled on not getting shit. Get a bunch of them, try color schemes you think you like etc. If it was a SKX009 it would look great with more vivid NATOs i guess.
>>
>>51655275
I can recommend you a great brand of buttcream if you want. I haven't tried it myself but I've never heard a complaint about it.
>>
>>51655317

Aaaaand another update, Meiguro comment on the issue and said it's apparently about menu items not being truncated at all, causing problems C-side. I'll implement a shitty fix and see if I can roll out an Aplite build.

Just cross-posting, I updated Trefoil to 1.5 and the application should work on all Pebble devices now.

For those of you unaware, Trefoil is an application that allows you to browse 4chan from a Pebble watch.

Sorry I can't settle on a name, I forgot my tripcode a while back and I've been alternating between "Gitgud Software' and "Trefoil Dev".

There are exactly two reasons to wear an automatic watch:

1) They're a neat feat of mechanical engineering and material production.

2) You'll never get conned by another watch shop over a fucking battery. I replaced a battery after at least six years of use. Three months later, I broke the stem. Took it to a local watch repair guy who quoted me a price. Came to pick it up and he was charging me extra. Why? "The battery needed to be replaced." Bitch, I *just* replaced that six months ago. "You want me put old one back in?"

Fucking service shops are a bunch of con artist fuckwads. Same thing with a cell phone repair place that told me *after* making me sit around for an hour while they repaired something that they were going to charge me instead of honoring the warranty. Same exact response, "you want me to put the old one back in?" Yeah, fucker, I'm going to waste another hour of my time because you don't understand how business transactions work.

>>51657801
>It's two times the frequency balance wheel and hairspring assembly. Did you watch the video?
That means literally nothing, smartass.

>>51657757
The period of a spring driven simple harmonic oscillator is determined by inertia and spring constant. The inertia depends on the total mass and the mass distribution of the balance wheel, and the spring constant depends on the stiffness of the spring. You can regulate a watch by turning the regulator screw which lengthens or shortens the effective length of the spring (changes spring constant) or turning those little screws on the outside edge of the balance wheel which changes the moment of inertia of the wheel. I don't have a good photo on hand but here's a photo of a movement I guess.
>>
>>51658171
The fact that the beats per hour is in a two to one relationship with the oscillations of the balance wheel is not 'literally' nothing, even if that isn't the answer he was looking for.

All you need to know is here: http://replica-watch.info/

It really doesn't help that replica sellers not only claim they sell real Rolexes, they still try to fool you on the exact replica model when caught red-handed.

Why won't Bulova just keep making these again? Old models still sell like hot cakes, and they could make a ton of money from this, especially if they bring extra waterproofness, shock resistance, a wider choice of models, and countless other things modern watches get.

They made a limited edition rerun already, and now make spaceview quartz watches. Why won't they go the extra mile and just keep making those forever?
>>
>>51662099

>>
>>51652469

Alright /wt/.

I am not that deep into watches, their maintenance or their usage. Mostly because I couldnt afford good watches. Thankfully that situation will be over soon.

Anyways, for now, I have what I believe is an OK watch. Only problem with it is every once in a while the date falls behind.

It falls behind by a day, then I set it again and it works fine for a while.

Is there anything I can do to fix this permanently? Or am I doing something very wrong?

Its an everyday analog watch me thinks.
>>
>>51662382
Does it lose a day at the end of every two months?
>>
>>51662468

Maybe. I haven't been able to keep exact track of it. I know its more than 2-3 weeks though.
>>
>>51662382
You're not really deep into logic either.

Some months have 31 days, some 30, and february varies between 29 and 28 once in a while. Most watches with a day wheel don't know what month it is, let alone if it's a leap year or not, and simply increase the day by one every day on a 31-day wheel.
Which means that at the end of all less than 30-day months, you need to set it again, just like I did set mine on tuesday considering november had 30 days, and that on tuesday, it incorrectly displayed the 31st of november.

There are two solutions: digital watches, which keep a precise account of time including leap years and which are probably the most perfect solution (there are analog-digital hybrids too which fullful both functions perfectly), and "calendar", or "perpetual" analog watches, which keep track of the month, and for some of leap years too, even if it's only internally and not displayed, and whose date is always correct.

Almost all date-only watches are not perpetual and will lose some days every two months.

Please be bait.
>>
>>51662519

No. Thats defintely not the issue. There have been instances where I set the day and it lost a day before the end of the month.

It came with a little card that says I can get a free repair or something but shops here dont seem to know the brand
>>
>>51662539
>>51662550
What's the brand?
>>
>>51662601

Tissot? Dont know if thats the model or brand name

Doesnt seem to have an obvious model name on the face.
>>
>>51662619
Tissot is a well-known Swiss brand that makes proper watch.

It should be a functional watch, because while it's not the highest luxury watch, it's not dogshit either. It's surprising shops wouldn't know the brand, either they're really shit shops or they just don't want to bother repairing what surely is a mechanical watch.

You can always contact customer service directly, they might even point you towards a decent place to get it fixed: http://www.tissotwatches.com/

is there a strap guide out there
>>

Guide for what?
>>
>>51662669
For straps
>>

Thanks. Huh, says here you have to wind the watch? Is this a thing in 2015?

Epic meme
>>
>>51662679
If it's not quartz, yes you have. At least generally not manually, most are automatics and wind up as they rotate around the axis.
>>
>>51662678
Choose? Buy? Adjust? Replace? Shove up your ass?
>>
>>51662700
Theres watch guide just wondering if there would be a strap guide too. Actually a strap buying guide
>>
>>51662720
There isn't, because NATO aside which always fits, the exact fit depends on both the watch case and the strap size, which is especially true for steel bracelets, but still true for any leather, silicone, fabric or whatever else strap.

Now all that's left is to pick it up tomorrow, or in Sunday.

Because i'm too cheap for a proper camera, usually my Note 3's camera.

Though i used an old S3 and the camera honestly feels a lot better.

Any semi decent cameras in the 150$~ range? Or should i just splurge the shekels for another Seiko?
>>
>>51660375
I would argue that they are better than SARB in the same price range as well.
>>

Yea sure pal, be a good goy and buy icw Portuguese rep.
You know that for every rep you buy a koala suffers a painful death.

they are both real.
Had them checked by rolex themselves in Paris,
thanks for your input though.

Thats paid reviews. Sending him a watch would probably be different.

How do I put this question correctly: regarding all those SARB SXK and similar markings I see here, how do I know which seiko watch are they reffering to? Evry where I look seikos have a serial marking looking something like 4S87K. For example, I haven't seen once that SARB on any sellers site.
>>
>>51664781
Seiko has two different systems, one is the model number that always starts with S, and the other is on the back of the watch, like 0853-8025 where 0853 is the movement, 80 is the case type, and the 25 I'm not entirely clear on but indicates a different aspect, dial maybe? The model number is almost always the one you want to search for unless it's vintage.
>>
>>51664831
I can easily find on the internet how to read that second system you mentioned. What would a SARB be for an example.
>>
>>51664864
It's just a model line of watches with the same movement and similar features/prices. SARBs all have 6r15s, cost around $300 and almost all have sapphire for example.
>>
>>51664864
A watch with a 6R15 movement and the models are caled SARBXXX (XXX being the numbers)
>>
>>51663587

so turns out my dad got it in 1990, i was born 92

watch has never been serviced

>finally time winding it up just right
>run it for about 24hr
>currently keeping time as good as my seiko SNK

can someone explain this shit?
it hasn't been serviced in over 20 years since it was bought, its fucking fake, and its running as good as my seiko?

Apparently this watch is worth fixing and cleaning up.
how i should mod it.

sterile dial?
millguass seconds hand?
looks sharp and feels nice, but id rather have a "homage" than a fake.

anyone got the email for watchmaker anon? i'd love to pay him to service it, now that i realize this think is obviously worth a service fee.
>>
>>51665274
Your watch is nice anon, I like it. Case size? It looks kinda smaller than the standard Submariner.
>>
>>51665357
Sterile dial from rafflestime should do the trick.
>>
>>51665274
is it actually rated to 200m?
>>
>>51665377
If your not trolling, it's about 39mm minus the crown and crown guards.

>>51665429
So it's more like a vintage Sub?
>>
>>51665458
Nah, with the crown it's still easily 43mm.

Its just made for tiny gook wrists.

The bracelet is probably the nicest bit of it, but it barely fits my 7.5" wrist. I could only remove two links.
>>
>>51665531
Since the lug width is still 20mm (?), the bracelet you shill so nicely might fit other watches too right?
>>
What are my options for a good dress watch around 150-200 € that's not a Bambino?

>>51665274
It's a really nice watch anon, I especially like the way letters are aligned, reminds me of 18th century press printing. Gives it a distinctive vintage look.
>>
>>51665409
I would assume so.

200m isn't that great of an achievement, especially with a screw down crown.
My only worry is that the glass isn't domed, which might make it not as strong as some other 200m rated watches.
>>
>>51665559
Haven't checked the lug width, but it does look 20mm by eyeball.
It is a nice bracelet (for a $200 watch at least) but I wouldn't risk it if you have large wrists.
As I said before, my 7.5" is not far off being at the limit.
>>51665595
M Y FAV OUR ITE PA RT IS HO W MUC H IT TR IGGE RS AU TIST S
>>
So Swiss use Moebius for oiling, but what do the Japs use? They gotta have some domestic-made watch oils at Seiko, Citizen/Miyota and whatnot.
>>
>>51665595
18th century printing, each glyph came on a separate block, so it resembles metric kerning more than just odd randomly placed spaces like on that dial.
I might email them offering to kern it by hand.

Decently kerned short novel on dial to keep it related.
