What's the exact model of this?
>>51665744
Seiko makes their own, I don't know what the others use.
Seiko is actually a very vertically integrated company, that seems to be a common thing with big Japanese companies. They make their own lubricants, make their own hairsprings all the way from forging the raw material to rolling the final spring, grow their own quartz crystals and I believe also their own rubies. Here's a photo of quartz crystals in an autoclave.
Another company that surprisingly makes their own rubies is Raketa. They were actually founded in 1721 as a jewelry company, when the Soviets told them to start making watches after WWII they were able to produce their own jewels and supplied basically all of them for the Soviet watch industry.
>>51666056
>Seiko SRP703
My dad knows Seiko for their cheaper models only, so I'd prefer to not give him one or he'll think his son is cheap. Does someone have the old recommendations chart?
i've posted here before but im prety sure you're mistaking me for someone else
>>51666162
>>51666386
damnit. was to this guy
>>51666361
Oh and of course Seiko makes their own batteries too, and lume paint. Also they own Epson, which was also born out of their crazy need to make everything themselves. When Seiko was made the official timekeeper for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics they took it really seriously and developed a whole bunch of quartz stopwatches and wall clocks (at this time quartz clocks were still mostly enormous machines that weighed hundreds of pounds). They also built the little printer attached to the clock which printed out the results, and over time that grew into a whole separate printer company.

but taking a photo so close makes it look a bit bigger on you than it actually is.

>>51669385
I know a bit.
Should have a 2603 cal movement, and the power reserve shouldn't be too great (probably winding it up fully once a day).
Accuracy though, is a very hard thing to say.

Something about Apollo 13's flight that had to be corrected mid course, using thrusters not planned for that use, which kinda endangered the rest of the mission in return.
Some geek joke.
Found it on the street with a broken springbar when I was a kid.
Was too large for my wrist at the time.
Spent ~8 years in a drawer.
Been my daily for three years already.
It's ugly as sin and it's inaccurate as fuck.
R8 and recommend me something with similar size and "solid build".
After years of dealing with a mechanical watch I'd rather go with a decent quartz movement.
But all quartz watches are light like they're made of plastic.
Wat do?
>>51669538
It's a reference to Apollo 13. They had to manually time a really critical 14 second engine burn to put the capsule on course to return to Earth after shit blew up. Failure is not an option is a phrase that nobody at NASA ever actually said but it got associated with them by the Apollo 13 movie, and Snoopy is also a NASA thing. The astronaut crew of a mission can give a Snoopy award to anyone who they think made a major contribution to crew safety or something like that, and Omega was given a Snoopy for giving them the speedmaster.
It's still an ugly cheesy watch, though.
>>51669552
Does it WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH?
>>51669566
It's pretty feature rich though.
>>51669587

Lots of cool quartz out there. I myself am partial to vintage stuff, penisquartz (Lord/King Quartz, QT, QR, QZ models) Citizen JG2000, plenty of other good stuff out there for less than $200.
>>51669742
what is your budget? do you have any special wishes for the watch?
but really, orient, seiko, citizen, even casio. those all make good modern quartz watches, just look around their catalogs and avoid the absolute cheapest models to get a better build
vintage seiko penisquartzes are good if you want something cool vintage with "prestige" or just really like the design and so on of them
>>51669742
Not sure where you got that price from.

Though there's cheaper alternatives.

Not that you asked for a diver specifically, but they tend to be chunkier than other styles.

So I just got my first automatic.
Uses the Miyota 8245 movement.
When I bring my wrist up or move it from side to side I hear what sounds like a rattle.
Is that normal?
I've had the watch for a few hours and it seems to be keeping time properly. Also the watch itself looks new from the outside.
The watch was constructed after 2010. It's a maratec pilot.
Is this type of noise normal for the Miyota movements?
>>51666162
You mean me? No, that wasn't me
>>51676283
That's the rotor. I don't have one but I hear they are rather on the noisy side.
>>51676311
Okay. What should I listen or look for to make sure the watch is working properly?

if it stops keeping time right you'll know there's something wrong.
>>51676336
Just wear it, don't worry.
>>51676283
Might be that the rotor only winds in one direction, so you're hearing it freely spin in the other. The miyota 9015 I have works that way, so I'm just assuming the 8245 does too.

It does spin in one direction from what I read.

That's a super oyster in the photo. That's the one flaw I forgot about the 007, the trash bracelet it comes on.
Ive been saving up for a while, have about $8,000 in the bank to spend. Im looking to buy a nice watch, and ever since a kid, the no date submariner has always caught my attention. Should i go for it? What other nice watches are there in this price range? Not my picture, by the way.
>>51671389
>I'm a butthurt poorfag
Technically, the datejust is in the oyster family, so he wasn't entirely inaccurate.
Thought /wtg/ would like my 40-year old clock, interesting story behind it too

buy a motorcycle and some gear fag. You'll get more dick than having a nice watch.
>>51676610
Do it but for the love of god get a 14060 or something and not a maxicase ceramic ROLEXROLEXROLEX wall of text.
>>51676336
You should hear a faint tictictictictic sorta sound every time the hand moves. Thats the inner mechanism working perfectly. The rotor will make that sound, i have an older IWC, and you can hear the rotor whirr in a quiet room. Its perfectly normal. Listen for any loud clinks you might hear out of the blue, if its a random occasional clink, you should get it serviced. My pocket watch will do that if i lay it horizontally. Dont worry about that now though, thatll come years later down the road
>>51676648
muh dick to be honest family. I wish they had cleaned off the dust a bit better before filming though.

Do share.
>>51676610
If you want something more modern, Nomos. If you want something more stylish, Panerai. If you want more of a pilot's watch or elegant dress watch, IWC. Zenith also has good value. Those are my recommendations.
You can't beat the crown though. Always go with what you are passionate about.
>>51676662
I do hear a stable and constant tick so that's good I guess.
Thanks
>>51676652
Already have one. I have cash to blow on some nice things, mostly accessories.
>>51676643
that's pretty cool, what's the story?

So backstory here is I don't live in america, I live in an island country called maldives.
So one day this boat carrying a lot of tea ran aground near our island, and my grandfather sold that tea to this guy in another island to get the clock. Not very interesting now that I think about it, but the nice thing is it worked perfectly for 40-odd years until my fucking aunt turned the key too hard and now it won't chime anymore.
(Apparently, it was bought in 1970 so that makes it 45, not 40)
>>51676886
So your grandfather was a tea pirate? Cool.
>>51676648
Its a beautiful watch, but id never spend that money on a Seiko. Most i would do would probably be $500 on a perfect grand quartz. Seikos are just overly done memes to me, right about now.
>>51676693
I appreciate the post. I think im gonna go for it, theres a Rolex dealer down the road, actually kinda cool because theres a Breitling shop, a Cartier, Nomos, IWC, and a Ussysles Nardin, all connected to it. But Im gonna swing by, hopefully this saturday to pick one up. If I can get one for $7,000, i might just put the $1,000 to a Schauffhausen, those are ridiculously gorgeous too.

Sinn and Damasko both make great watches for the money. You can't really go wrong with either. Damasko I think edges out Sinn in terms of case technologies and they have their own in-house movement, but Sinn is more successful at creating successful designs. I love the look of most Damasko watches, but they seem really confused about what their next move will be creatively. Sinn on the other hand usually just nails a design when they put one out.
>>51677108
You could say that about pretty much any brand of watch.
>>51677245
Just realized I used "successful" twice in the same sentence. I need to stop chugging mouthwash before bed.
>>51677181
Don't get a Rolex, everyone will assume it's a fake and even if they don't, it's just not a cool brand anymore.
jaeger lecoultre makes really cool watches. Bruguet makes quality watches as well. I'd advise against a Rolex, ap, iwc and other mountain Jews
>>51677308
Not necessarily always true. I just wouldnt spend that much on a seiko. Awkward power indicator, terrible font, and really, the hi beat sorta thing isnt new. At all. Id rather just get a swiss bulova accutron if i wanted a high beat sorta thing.
>>51677320
>>51677245
Go away sinn shill. Everyone already agreed above that sinn was overpriced rubbish
The best looking watch I have ever laid my eyes on. No doubt.
>>51677387
It's not a high beat movement though. Spring drives are the only 'truly' smooth movements. The bulova precisionist is a quartz movement that beats at 16Hz. That definitely isn't something new. I don't think that's something you can attribute to the spring drive though.
Aesthetically, sure, everyone has their preferences.
>>51677398
Joke's on you, I researched them both but decided against Sinn and bought a Damasko.
>>51677446

>10 ATM everday
Cmon guys, step up your watch game

Who fucking cares? Buy a watch because YOU like it.
Within reason, don't buy shit.
What strap should I buy for my F-91W? I'm not digging the standard one.

Pebble time user, here. How do I do this.
>>51677936
>How do I do this.
Alt+F4
I know that you're supposed to get the hesalite speedy for historical reasons, but I would feel kinda ripped off paying almost 4k for what is basically the same acrylic crystal that Vostok uses.
What do you guys think?
>>51677770
I actually want to take it off eventually.
>>51677690
Will a NATO strap fit on one? I want to buy one but it doesn't look like there's enough space between the pins and the case.
>>51677996
Depends on if you don't mind the white rim that you get on the sapphire crystal. Or the dome that isn't as nice as the hesalite.
>>51677996
There is nothing wrong with an acrylic crystal.
>>51677995
Fuck you I did what you said and now my system 32 is missing.
>>51678005
You have to install the spring bars on top of the NATO. Its tight but it fits.
>>51678033
Good point, the hesalite looks much better
>>51678049
I don't like the thought of scratching an expensive watch, and acrylic crystals are scratch magnets.
>>51678083
Just buy some polywatch for the crystal if you're OCD about scratches.
>>51678096
I just use toothpaste myself.
>>51673377
What's that button for? Advancing the date one day?
>>51673377
>Mako USA
Nice. I have a Ray on the way. I don't like the indices and hands on the USA, and I don't like the bezel on the regular Mako. I will have to deal with the inferior bracelet and crystal.
A USA with Mako or Ray dial and hands would be perfect, but it doesn't exist.
>>51678682
Day. That's because the movement is originally date only and they slapped a day on it, and a pusher to control it.
Not ideal, but i like the original look it gives the watch. Originality is rare in divers.

Forgot pic.
Christmas present for my bro has just arrived :^)
>>51676310
No I didn't, I meant [first name] Tran who posted here some months back.
His watch too was made out of bronze, and even if it cost a whole lot more than your dogshit was about as high grade of dogshit.
Stop posting that watch if you have others that aren't repugnant.
>>51673360
Nice. What colour is the dial, it looks grey or is that the lighting on it?
>>51673812
Nope the titanium still scratches like steel. Much lighter though - the bracelet itself is only 30g.
>>51677181
The Milgauss is one nice watch. My coworker has one and it feels great on the wrist. His is the black dial version, which one you thinking of? I prefer the green one.
>>51679767
Nothing about MUH TEGIMENT?
>>51679566
It has gotten to a point where these high quality reps are so hard to tell apart from the gen item.
>>51679801
As far as I know only some of the EZM titanium ones are tegimented, not this particular model 144.
>>51679841
dogshit reps
>>51679676
Mine was free. I certainly wouldn't pay the retail ($820 US) for it. Only posted it to see if you meant me. I like the watch, it's not *complete* shit (Miyota 9015 movement).
But anyway pic related is about as good as I've got right now.
>>51680231
>over $800 for a 9015
Literally what
Why have you not sold it and bought two good watches that don't look atrocious with the same movement?
I'm not a vintage Seiko guy but that's a nice pogue I guess.
>>51680437
Yeah the retail price is stupid.
Anything in particular that you would go for? I haven't really wanted a particular watch lately but I'm not so attached to this watch that I'd keep it forever
>>51680178
Ya know, faggots like you only say that BECAUSE its a rep, then you go out and spend your money on a bagelsport. How about you stop bitching about reps and actually support the company by spending $60,000 on a platinum daytona? Until you do that, you have no room to hate on reps
>>51680506
If I had a large wrist and/or liked large cunky watches: Halios Tropik SS, Visitor Duneshore, Aevig Valkyr (steel), Lew and Huey Cerberus (black tie), Armida A2, Dagaz Thunderbolt etc. Buy as well as sell on /f29/.
The highest priced 9015 I'd ever consider would be the Tempest Carbon - which isn't in my taste, budget nor size, but it's nice.
Think there's a 42mm compressor with the 9015 as well - if not there's at least two or five with the SH35.
