My older brother is a successful normie lawyer who probably makes like 80.000€ a year already in his early 30s and wears a Rolex datejust or an omega speedmaster to work.
I'm just a poor engineering student and got him pic related for Xmas. Will he like it /g/?
He doesn't have a diver afaik.
>>
>>51681406

>>
>>51681433
Thanks. It's a 710 aka "ministry case".
>>
>>51681406
He'd better like it if he wants to appear like he doesn't have shit taste.

Also am I the only one who thinks that the Amphibia would have pretty neat bracelet designs if they'd bother making them out of solid steel instead of soup cans?
>>
>>51681406
Lets be real here he will probably put it away somewhere and forget about it.
But hey the thought is what counts.
>>
>>51681463
I agree, it fucking feels disgusting on the wrist and the end links fall apart as soon as you remove the bracelet from the watch.
I can't understand why the ruskies would make such low quality straps. I'd gladly pay some extra money for a decent one from vostok.
I'm thinking of getting another amphibia for myself as soon as I have the money since Xmas has raped my bank account.
Does anyone know of a decent steel bracelet that fits the 710 amphibia case?

Vostok's own solid-link bracelet made for the 710SE, only the end links are hollow. You can order it from Meranom.
>>
>>51681497
I've already thought about that and that's the most likely thing to happen since he's a snobby normie who only cares about appearance (he even drives a 911 carrera 4s).

>>

i just feel when you spend $400 on clone

it should be a homage, from a company attempting to compete in the world

i dunno, just feels strange.

also a friend in the office said some company just flipped over and was selling their $800 watches on amazon for $80 to attempt to make some money back.

Anyone have any idea what he was talking about?
he couldn't remember the name.

My budget is 1500€, what's the highest quality watch I can get, I was thinking about pic related, but maybe I should go look at second hand models ?
>>
>>51682258

I love NOMOS so I'd say yes. However, you may be able to find Omegas at that price that make you tick as well.

NOMOS' movements are in-house and well-made so it's essentially impossible to find anything new at that price that's that unique.

You could try second hand. Scares me desu but if you're confident check it out. You could probably find some very low end IWCs and stuff in that range. Condition may vary.

Beat up rollie on Craigslist or evay
>>
>>51682034
How long ago did you order?
I could accept if you were this excited about it for a short while, but rampantly hurling your feces all over the thread for weeks on end makes no one but possibly you happy.

Also >42.5mm x 14.5mm dress watch
>Dress watch bigger than fat pocketwatch-movement casual watch
Unless you literally have 8" wrists, that WILL look retardedly big.

Getting a SARB for the same same or less money is better in nearly every way imaginable.
>>
>>51682258
Nomos are superb. One other thing I can think of is one of the Longines Heritage models. I have one (a 1954) and it's a nice watch, but I think that the Nomos will be slightly higher.

>>
>>51681406
actually I'm gonna critique your gift a bit: you should've maybe bought one of the ones with no date complication

it has no quick set so it is a bit fiddly and annoying if you do not use it as a daily diver (which I assume someone with speedmasters and datejusts won't)
though if he just like ends up using it as a beater to the gym or whatever, he could just leave the date at whatever it is.

Not him but it's understandable if one goes for something else since the SARB looks a bit dull and their prices have slowly crept up over the years.

Watches generally lose quite some value between being new and being owned at all - buying one that someone bought, tried on and didn't like often gives a larger discount than buying from a retailer. Buying barely or actually used gives a deeper discount, though much less so on the most famous brands or extra sought after models.

As for nomos I can't give any personal experience but they seem very much watchmaking for the money.
When the most respected watchmakers in the world were asked what what sub-10k usd watch they would recommend, the grandfather of independent watchmaking and finishing said Nomos.

While I don't own a SARB, I'd consider a 65 far from boring and certainly more wearable and worth its price. Unlike the oversized semi-dress watch mixing round and edged at random with a completely flat poorly lumed dial.
Though compared to the SARB33 / variants I guess it's a touch more interesting - specially if you hang around budget forums and see it posted nearly daily.

Finally got my mark 4.5 Speedmaster back from service. Watchmaker tells me it's keeping a very consistent +5s/day and that all looks good now that he adjusted the nylon gear that controls the chronograph reset.

Still, given how long he took, I would go to Shane Ede over the this dude.

>3133 chronograph
>any specific Russian brand like Vostok, Raketa, Pobeda, Poljot

I also use the European filter to avoid Russian sellers (I hate custom/long waits + they overprice a lot) and order the results by soonest to finish.

And very important: Look only for auctions... You can get really good deals! Especially on sunday night, there are tons of finishing auctions (but also many bidders)

Well, all of their watches have some pretty damn cool stories behind them, most of them impressive achievements of the former USSR.

I find the dials on these Type IIs and King Quartz units are far more durable than the earlier KS dials, especially the 44KS. I think Seiko must have de-fucked their paint formula or something, because it's very rare to find later units with any blemishes at all, while earlier ones will frequently have cracking, stains or oxidization issues.

Just obtained this. Seiko 7548-700F. Made in December 1980. Bezel insert is faded, replacement is on the way from ebay. The crystal could probably be brought back with some polywatch. Rest of the watch is in excellent shape and it keeps good time. But what to do about this shitty aftermarket bracelet that someone put on? Looking for bracelet/strap suggestions.
>>
>>51691575
They honestly would have died without that watch.
I'm pretty sure it was Eisenhower that required astronoughts to wear chronos because he was a big watch guy himself actually.
Omega won the snoopy award because of the role the watch played in helping them with re-entry, so it's not entirely bullshit marketing.
I hate that Speedies are ~4k despite having a vostok-tier crystal and a movement thats barely better than a seagull, but there's demand, and swatch are taking advantage of that.
That bullshit is even worse with the snoopy edition because of how limited it is and how 3rd party jews are going to jack the price up to insane levels.
>>
>>51691625
I'm well aware of the importance of the Speedmaster in space history. I'm a space nerd. The 14 second burn did need good timing and a chronograph function certainly came in handy for them. But...that watch is just so fucking ugly that I can't like it.

Not at all, they make both mechanical and quartz versions of that field watch with tritium tubes.

I really with this thing had 18mm lugs instead of 16mm.
Really limits the straps you can use with it

Why would anyone put a mechanical movement in a field watch though?
One of the best things about quartz is how shock resistant they are

/g/, why don't you own the classiest dress watch under 2000$?
Seiko Sarb 065 is about 400$, try to find a better dress watch under 2k, you can't.

It looks nice and all and it's a good watch but that thing is not classy or subtle at all. If you want new then I guess the Bambino and Hamilton Intra-matic are ok but not super great, I'd pick them over a cocktail time though. But honestly vintage dress watches are just so much better, you could easily find a great Constellation for under $2000 and I bet you could even find a Seamaster in pretty good shape for $400, and a million other brands besides Omega made better looking dress watches than that too.

So they have anime for personified guns, personified boats, and even personified nations.
What about personified watches? Like an ojou sama Patek, a SKX007 who always wears her bathing suit, a F91-W who's dirt poor, etc. I think it'd be pretty cool

Also, what can you tell me about this piece?

It's a Kirovskie, produced in the USSR from the late 50s to mid 60s they were produced. That's all I can tell you without searching more.

so are they generally any good? i have been wearing these for a few weeks and they stopped ticking a few times - a bit frustrating.
>>
>>51696964
Seiko makes watches from 50 euros to unobtainium tier, they're probably the best you can get in their price class considering finishing, movement, overall quality and all that
They're not so much affected by jews as the mountain jews are and they even have a pretty dank history, because that's important to some people
>>
>>51695850
>classiest
>implying
>>
>>51697020

If they have stopped ticking despite daily winding, it will probably need a service and cleaning. A local watchmaker may be able to do it.

It's a good watch and the lugs are distinctive. I think people on WUS call them the "crab" because of it.
>>
>>51697022
i could not wish for a better explanation
>>
>>51697046
i suppose they could use servicing ... and a new leather strap.

>>
>>51697238
Apparently the lug to lug on the SARB017 is only 45/46mm, less than many other SARB/Xs.
So probably cute wrists.

Can we all agree that the Spring Drive is objectively the best mechanical movement currently in production, followed by Omega's co-axial?
>>
>>51697915
Not exactly mechanical
>>
>>51695850

Because I already own an SDGM003, which is much more subtle with its guilloche dial than the shouty SARB065 or SDGM001.
>>
>>51697915

Why would you rank Omega's co-axial movement over Seiko's highly jeweled GS mechanicals, Rolex's up coming +/-2s/day movement, Nomos' developments in thin autos, etc?
>>
>>51698032
Because GS movements are basically suped up 7s26's and you know it.
Also I said currently in production
>>51697991
>AUTOMATIC

>>
>>51698069
They use the same mainplate as the 7S26, but otherwise they are completely different.

ough the roof I suspect.
>>
>>51697991
No class. You just mad you had to settle for a lesser watch
>>
>>51698069

Yes, a 37 jewel 10b/s movement is just a souped up 7s26. Go suck some more mountain jew marketing cock, you retarded status seeking mongoloid.
>>
>>51698246
I literally just said that the spring drive is the best movement currently produced.
Are you retarded?
>>
>GS has more than one kind of movement

>>51698204
>lesser watch

Yup, so much lesser with its more subtle face, Diashield, sapphire crystal, super AR coating, 5 piece articulating link polished/brushed alternating bracelet, and 5 bands of brushed/polished finishing on the case.

Yeah considering my Constellation is still serviceable and keeping time within chronometer spec 50 years after it was built I would say that's pretty reliable. This is Omega before Swatch, their movements are amazingly well built and reliable and beautiful.

What bezel is that anon?

I want one but I couldnt justify buying a replacement bezel that's as expensive as the watch itself.
