Alright people.
This time tomorrow we'll be shitposting over international waters. And then after that we'll be in the 3rd world.
Make sure you wear your 'I don't care if this gets stolen' watch.
>>51443319
From what I heard the one pieces scratch your caseback; unless there's a softer material than the braided nylons I was browsing on cheapestnato.
How much approximatly would a service of an old Raketa cost in a first world country? Because my friend payed like 15 euros for his and I'm wondering if it's something close to that or what, because what I've read hear is that on more modern watches the service goes from like 100€ at least and I'm afraid to get my watch serviced if it's going to cost more than 50€
>>51443616
I don't know about Euroland but in America the cheapest quote I got for getting a watch overhauled was $125.
>>51443538
I'll be wearing my "I don't care" watch
>>51443538
I'm excited. Good luck.
>>51443803
Well, I'm sure it's dogshit, but post it tomorrow anyway!
>>51443856
You're such a charmer.
>>51443890
It has shipped. The wait hurts.
>>51443603
Cheapestnatostraps Perlons are D O G S H I T.
This watch cost $4, and if I could buy the strap for that amount I wouldn't.
What's a reputable place to get two-piece natos?
Sophie is a stockholm cunt who said that my perlon being so harsh it's unwearable is "not good" and won't post my bagel on her instagram.
It's so bad I'm dissuaded from any perlon. Really.
>>51443603
I'm sorry, are you suggested that a braided nylon perlon is going to scratch stainless steel?!
>>51444139
Just go to Holben's Fine Watch Bands and get an EULIT perlon, they Re the good ones and are nothing like the garbage perlons from Cheapest NATO Straps.
>>51444423
Well single piece straps do extend the physical 'width' of the watch.
That's why I suggested the nomos one in the first place, and why we'll never wear the 5517 without it looking wonky :^(.
>>51444037
That watch is ridiculous.
>>51444423
>>51444390
We can stop the emoticon posting now
Had my master race Illuminator for about 3 months now. Loving every second...
Getting this watch for my 21st. Can't wait.
>>51444855
Fake illuminator, incorrect color
>>51444793
Ye. I can't wait to wear it. Probably a nice conversation starter.
>>51444904
>Not a Seiko meca-quartz chronograph
You fucked up son
Looking for a brown/black leather banded watch. with a navy, medium blue face. Silver frame and numbers preferred. Basic in style, no chronographs or anything on the face. Maybe a bit more ornate hands, if need be.
Numbers may be Roman or decimal...Any suggestions guys? Budget is 200-250. Seiko, Omega, Swiss, but I'm not picky
>>51444855
they make fake illuminators?
>>51445284
> making a knock off of a 15 dollar watch.
No retard, it's real.
>>51445347
I've always wanted a g shock
Casio should make an Android Wear gshock, I'd buy the fuck out of that
>>51445219

Lume shots?
>>51445760
Lume shots.
>>51445760
You could probably guess that watch but this one is a bit more obscure. Wasn't the best of purchases.
Last time I took a rain shot the crystal fogged. I should probably stop.
What do you guys think of this?

Can anyone tell whether the SARX015 has a better bracelet than the SARB033? The way it's designed I can't get a good fit for the latter on my wrist.
>>51445452
I think that'll take some time
G-Shocks are all about things that smartwatches can't into
They do have some bluetooth-enabled models though that can do basic music control and whatever, so I'm sure Casio might be interested in trying their hand at smartwatches sometime in the future
This is, of course, assuming that smartwatches actually grow into a big thing, rather than just a relatively popular smartwatch accessory
What is a Seiko chronograph that is revered similarly to the skx007 diver?
>>51444139
What watch is that senpai?
>>51446618
I would kinda think this would be right up Casio's alley. Calculator, databank, triple-sensor, touchscreens, they've been putting these things in watches for decades. I think they even had the first GPS in a watch. I'm surprised they're not at the forefront of this.
>>51445219
>Seiko
>>51446612
The lume on the SARB looks so gay.
What are some cool <$10 aliexpress chink watches?
I'm bored and wanna wait for shit to come in the mail. Already ordered a chinkwellington
>>51443902
>furless
>3DPD
My mako's date function just broke. Used it as a beater for two years and I think I was a little too harsh on it. I need a new watch to alternate with this while I find someone to get it repaired(or till I buy a new one). Preferably a diver as well with good water resist.
Budget is 200-800 since I'm a poorfag.
>>51447135
How did it break?
You might be able to fix it
>>51447193
6 foot drop because I was being careless. I know a place that repairs watches, but if its more expensive than the watch I might just buy a new one.
>>51446999

Maybe, maybe not.
>>51447217
You may have just jammed a gear
Try opening it and see what's going on in there

Yay or nay?
I'm generally pretty color retarded so I can't quite tell
>>51447284
What's up with the rise of this hipster, ultra simple meme dial?
>>51447331
This is a 5 dollar watch. It's either this or a shit load of fake sub-dials all over
>>51447251
Thanks, I'll try getting some tools for it. The mako was my first watch so I intend on keeping it for as long as it runs.

Can I use a watch to let girls know that I have money? Or will this just further reveal my autism and get me robbed?
>>51447543
Not my money desu. Blow it on whatever crap you want.
>>51447603
It you could use watches to do all three!
Exciting, right?
>>51447603

>>51447788
I would if it wasn't so outrageously ugly
Like seriously I think Seiko made this shit nasty on purpose, just so it would be noticed.
>>51447603
If a girl is interested in you she will compliment on your watch regardless of what you are wearing.
It happened to me two times with my everyday driver Swatch chrono that is really nothing special.
They usually say how nice it is,and aks where you got it from, and from there on you can get the convo rolling and do your magic.
>>51447838
That lume though
Thoughts on Citizen Grand Classic? The blue dial is drop-dead gorgeous.
>>51447769
I just used a different camera and this looks significantly less potato.
>>51447867
Better than Seiko in the same price for sure.
>>51447867
looks nice initially, however
>AUTOMATIC
>42 mm
>>51447958
The AUTOMATIC here is far, far less triggering than it is on the fat Canadian's Seiko. Almost looks like the text on a Tissot Powermatic.
42mm is fine, it's basically a Citizen SARX.
>>51447838
Yeah it seems like a lot of their lower end watches will have just one little thing wrong on them on purpose to make you lust for a better model, that's the only reason I can think of for some of the ugly shit they pull that just ruins an otherwise great watch.
>>51447867
What kind of movement does this have?
>>51447867
That fucking lume man. So beautiful.
>>51448031
Looks like a Miyota 9010, which is VERY functionally close to the Miyota 9015.
>>51448088
>>51447867
>>51448101
Honestly this seems like a pretty good step up from the SDGM00x for not very much more money.
Not bad for 30 bucks.
>>51448105
You gonna trigger the Seiko shills here man.
>>51448119
Nice PaChink Pirripe
>>51448105
The problem is, Citizen generally has a (well-deserved) reputation for making kind of shitty designs or slightly fucking up the few good designs they have made. So a lot of people are instinctively repulsed by their offerings, regardless of how good some may be.
Today it's raining pretty bad, and I'll have to go out.
Amphibia on a leather or terrorist on a green nato?
>>51448179
Seiko is just as guilty of that, as I noted in >>51448024
I got this from Massdrop for cheap. I like the simple face style and it's automatic which is nice, I've never had an automatic watch before.
I was looking into nicer watches but couldn't justify $300.
I do wish it had a higher power reserve though, and a calendar. Apparently the movement is already set up for calendar but they just didn't put it in.
>>51448119
Is that a tourbillon?
>>51448192
I wouldn't pay more than 30 for that.

It's on for a good price on Massdrop
https://www.massdrop.com/buy/mondaine-evo-big-date-watch
>>51448660
No
Those only got popular because the Apple Watch has a similar design on the default watch face.
If you're gonna get quartz, either go with Seiko, Casio or get a chink one for cheap
>>51448685
I don't like the look of a lot of the Seiko quartz watches. Are there any watches similar to the one I posted that are good quality but not so high quality that I will be afraid wearing it around daily?
Dead
>>51448763
Timex or Casio.
>>51448763
Chink Wellington or one of these >>51447387
Unless its a chronograph or a very high end Seiko quartz, it's not really a good idea to pay a whole lot for one.
Chink Wellingtons are ~3 bucks on aliexpress by the way.
>>51448660
>paying more than $50 for a non-GS quartz
We seem to get more and more retards in /wt/ everyday.

The brand is Jing Yi. As you can tell by the name, it's manufactured in China. Can't find any specific model number, but you can find it by searching Jing Yi on Aliex Express. The prices are sub-$10, but the bands look like shit.
never heard /wt/'s opinions on smartwatches, specifically android wear varieties. probably because i hardly ever read these threads.

>>51444971
When are you going to fix those scratches on the bezel, like you promised me?
Y-you can't keep triggering my autism like this!
>>51449035
Smart watches are literally disposable trash.
You will wear it for one year and then throw it away because either the battery life got to the point it was unusable or your new phone won't support the older watch.
>>51449180
I'm sorry, senpai. I'm travling at the moment, so I haven't been able to do anything about it. Here's some clean GMT Master for you.
>>51449319
Is that bezel really thin or is that just perspective?
>>51449287
they'll probably have short useful lifespans much like smartphones these days, but if you aren't paying a lot for them and are able to find value in what they offer is it really valid to call them trash?
i understand wholly that there is probably little to no overlap in the interests of watch enthusiasts and smart watch adopters, but just wanted to see what /wt/ thought.
thanks for the input.
>>51449343
Perspective. As you can see, someone didn't do too good of a job re-luming the dial though.
>>51449343

>>51449388
Lel. It's a unique piece. I believe the movement was changed and the crown guards removed. It has a strange story. Everything is recorded. Still a shame about the dial though.

>>51449481
I didn't exactly agree with their price either, but that's what they were asking. I really would prefer a metal bracelet too.
>>51447867
That looks really nice. It's good to see a good Citizen watch from time to time.
>>51448119
Neat. How does the big date work?
>>51448192
That doesn't look good at all. There are tons of simple faces that are actually good design. This is just looks lazy and cheap.
>>51449382
>but just wanted to see what /wt/ thought.
the only times smart watches are brought up in those threads is when someone is trying to troll.
>tfw nobody except for me in these threads owns a Soviet terrorist watch

Both the date and day dials are working as they should: they change automatically every 24 hours. The month dial remains a big question mark but you can adjust it.

It has to be a little big since my wrist is wide.
>>51450095

I own a watch similar to this, it was a gift from my grandfather
How the fuck is this not classed as straight up extortion? The import tax for my watch was £8, the carrier have paid that without my authority and have added an extra £13 charge for it, despite doing nothing extra but paying £8. So to receive my watch I now have to pay them what they're asking for or they'll send my item back to the sender. Obviously I've paid but what a racket.

>>51451426
Not really, that seems like a pretty nice watch.
Tudors are bretty gud in general.
>>51451119
Parcel Force. I think different companies have different charges. The charge was particularly high as they classed the parcel as Express 24, which is a load of bollocks since they'll have taken 5 days to deliver it since they received it.
>>51451596
>Are there more watches like that out there?
Tons. That style is called a diver's watch. The most well known one is the Rolex Submariner, but you can get something in this style at basically any price point.
Some cheap and non-shit ones are the Orient Ray/Mako, Seiko Monster & Sumo (divisive looks) and then you can look into Borealis, Steinhart... and many more

>>51452136
I would probably recommend the Orient Ray or the Seiko SKX007. Maybe get the Seiko SBDC009 if you're looking for something a little "different" with more features and a better movement (clockwork).
Anyone have an updated poorfag watch guide?
>>51452136
Yeah of course, I was just saying that the sub is the perfect example of this style of watch.
>>51452335

>>51452335
We need an updated one, with better descriptions for Orient and Vostok on poorfag side.
Also will post a couple of pics of this Saturdays trip with my new Ray.
>>51452271
Thanks again. The Orient Ray looks nice and is in my budget.
But there is one thing thats bugging me. Most of these watches seem to be small compared to my wrist. Currently I wear a Casio 558 which has case diameter of 49mm and that looks normal. Do you have any recs around that size?
time for breakfast
>>51452583
I don't know how big your wrist is, but unless you're an extremely fat, disgusting pig feeding at the trough several times a day, 49mm is too big. The lugs of the watch (top bits that hold the band in) should not overhang your wrists. 42mm (or smaller) is actually the proper size for a majority of people; 49mm would be considered a big-time oversize watch. It's practically the size of an old pocket watch.
>>51452473
>>51452583
The Ray is a stunning watch for it's price, and as far size goes it's not too big but also sit well on your arm. Though a lot of Casio's are meant to be worn larger then your wrist can handle.
Honestly after wearing it for a week most of what i have to say is that i'm glad i bought one. But i was slightly disappointed by the lume and then chinkshit rubber strap.
>>51452673
yeah you shouldn't get the rubber on a ray or mako, the bracelet is worth it.
>>51452659
>>51452673
Well I guess I need to go out and check them out for myself then. Thanks for all the recs again.
>>51452821
I'm not a big fan of metallic bracelets, and the seller didn't have the blue faced one with a bracelet anyhow.
Though based Marc from longisland watches, he wrote it up as a 20$ measurement device and i avoided a sizable import tax.

>>51453723

>>51453618
>All those $300 chronos with the A7750.

Great bang per buck chrono, though without sterilisation I wouldn't be comfortable with it.
>>51453723

>Great bang per buck chrono, though without sterilisation I wouldn't be comfortable with it.
True, but I like microbrands - it's sort of hipsterish of me - but I like supporting the "little guy" in the business.
It's much nicer to have a watch from someone who got into the business because they fucking love it, rather than from gigantic faceless corporation who wage-slavery to steal designs from their creators and then profit from them.
>>51444904

>>51453750
Chink brands dont exactly care for quality. Theres the occasional few thatll care and will use a decent quality automatic Asian, but most are just shit quartz movements they bought for $5 each, marked it up a bunch, and then sold it to the unsuspecting. If you really want a good automatic chronograph under 300, the best brand is Alpha watch.
>>51453897
What other than Alpha and that chink airforce chrono is there in the way of small sized, mechanical chronographs for under 400?
Or any microbrand offering for a 6.3" wrist really.
Pretty much every brand that isn't in a major group I'd wager is mainly composed out of people who are genuinely like it.
And some that are in even the worst groups as well, I doubt the people at VC / Lange work without passion.
>>51453985
My apologies, they arent automatic, rather mechanical. Its still a fantastic watch though.
>>51453985
>Chink brands dont exactly care for quality.
I was talking about chink brands like Seagull and OM (HK, but principle still stands) - not the slant-kikes that churn out quartz abominations.
>If you really want a good automatic chronograph under 300, the best brand is Alpha watch.
Alpha does not make automatic chronographs.
>What other than Alpha and that chink airforce chrono is there in the way of small sized, mechanical chronographs for under 400?
Magrette, Prometheus (made the CR-1, which used the A7750), Perpetual, a whole bunch of manufacturers who can bear to deal with the ST19 movements that Seagull doesn't keep for itself.
>And some that are in even the worst groups as well, I doubt the people at VC / Lange work without passion.
I highly doubt that it's like that for most people - the people building the watches are separated from the designers and are scattered amongst marketing agents, middle managers and office staff.
That sort of organisation just really feels "cold".
I just love the idea of tiny microbrands (ie. Perpetual is FOUR guys who churn out brilliantly finished watches) - where everyone is involved and the people behind the designs work hand in hand with the watchmakers.

I say save up for a used one if you are really into rolex.
I don't know why you autists are so against fakes. My dad owns several original Rolexes and even he uses a replica for his daily driver. Most of his friends also do the same thing with their expensive Swiss watches.
They don't take out their original watches unless for important events like wedding receptions, business trips or the likes.

So what? Almost the entirety of /wt/ would say that the orange monster is an ugly piece of shit. But there also are the people that love this watch (myself included) or compliment it which can actually find the beauty of the watch and of what it represents.
Maybe it does have a weird design, maybe orange isn't the best colour for a dial, maybe

in my experience with my lg g watch, the screen will be dim and viewable at all times for about 2 days. if you can't see the screen easily, it brightens all the way up based on a slight turn of the wrist, no touching anything required.
2 days is objectively annoying for a watch's battery life no doubt, but for the features it provides me with, it's just another thing for me to plug in at night along with my phone.

I guess some might be racing nerds who saw a commercial of it on Formula 1 at the age of 14, thought it was cool and they never grew out of it? Remember, TAG Heuer is a monster at marketing and they've been doing this shit for many, many years.
Also I'd assume a normie could only name a few expensive watch brands, no matter how wealthy they are, and they'd rather buy a "modern" piece instead of those old grandpa watches like Rolex or Grand Seiko. I think this is the direction Omega has been moving in for a while, with their Planet Ocean. You see, when you admit that Rolex does better finished cases you lose the argument in its entirety because there is well known and widespread agreement online that Omega's bracelets and clasps are clearly inferior.
Not to mention Rolex planning to move to +2/-2s/day standards on their new movements.
Rolex is overpriced, certainly, but they understand that they have to work to justify the hype. What offends me about Omega is precisely the half assed manufacturing effort while trying to market themselves into the same price class.
