I was depressed and suicidal for a long time before I just decided to take control of my own mind and emotions.
Emotional and mental strength is trained the same way your body is. You practice the skill of restraint and suppression and condition your mind to think differently.
An example of this is whenever something shitty happens to you, don't spiral into a pit of self-pity but try to see the good in it and change your mood to a positive one from a negative one. The more you do this, the less shitty thoughts you have, the less depressed you are, and the more in control of your mind you are when you feel depressed.
Mental strength is equally as important as physical strength. What good is a strong body that has a weak mind?

When I was 15 I had a mega-conservative phase, was obsessed with self-discipline and the if-you-fail-it's-your-fault mentality. I sorted my life out, overcame depression, felt happy, and read ahead on material that made me excel academically and literally transformed my grades. I remember it because it was such a powerful time. We may dislike conservashits for their boring and senile way of life but they have the morals in place to raise strong successful people.

Another tip for conquering mental and emotional weakness is to look at your problems objectively.
Why am I sad? What is really going to make me happy? Where do these feelings of depression stem from? Is it just a phase? Is it temporary?
I have bipolar disorder so I overcome shitty feelings by telling myself that they're temporary. Same goes for emotional distress after a breakup or a loved one dying. Rationalize it as a temporary condition. You don't give up when you get a cold or the flu, why give up because of temporary shitty feelings? Depression is one of the most malleable mental illnesses because it's heavily influenced by your mindset, even bipolar disorder like I have.
It's really a question of whether or not you want to be happy. Do you want to be happy? Yes? Then you have to force yourself to be happy. You have to MAKE it work.

I want to thank /fit/. I'm a scrawny skellington who, until very recently, had no direction in life. Graduated college, no idea what to do. Was only in college because it was something to do while I considered my life.
Now I'm gonna be joining the military, and I feel invigorated. Knowing what to do has given me vigor, and I've started working to get into shape. Oddly, the hardest thing for me isn't working out, but eating. I can barely force myself to eat big without puking, but I'm giving it my damnedest, and seeing the successful people on here pushes me onward. I've already put on about 5 pounds, and my pushups have gone from laughable to half-decent. Haven't begun true lifting yet, as I've been working on hitting the minimum pushup/situp/run standards for the Army, but I'm getting fitter, at least.
Thanks for being an inspiration for people to make an improvement in their lives, /fit/. To find such a thing on 4chan is a marvel. God bless.

Well, I pumped a bit of money into mine and made a propane forge. If you wanna go that route you've gotta buy a propane bottle, gas regulators, torch hose, fire bricks/ceramic blanket/refractory cement, and you have to build a burner.
I'd recommend you go with coal. There are tons of videos out there on how to quickly throw a coal forge together. You can basically get by with a couple 2x4s, some clay out of your back yard, and a hair dryer. You can make your own charcoal as well if coal isn't cheap or readily available in your area.
You're also gonna want to collect a couple hammers. Start with a two or three pound hammer and eventually move up to a four pound or even a six if you're a fucking man.
Then find yourself some kind of anvil-like object (old piece of railroad track, chunk of thick mild steel plate, or maybe even an old anvil if you can find one in your area for real cheap. The heavier the better)
The cool part about blacksmithing is you can make all of your other tools. Google up some guides on how to make tongs, punches, dies, etc...
If you wanna make knives, it gets a little more complicated because hardening and tempering come into play and you have to know what kind of steel you're using; if you just wanna craft some cool ironwork shit, though, any scrap will do. Just gotta learn the different hammer strikes and get used to how steel moves under your hammer.
I wish I could post you some links but I'm on my phone. You're gonna have to search around for more in depth info.
With some luck though you could easily get started within a weekend. Try it out. I hope you like it as much as I do. I can get lost for hours doing this shit. It's very therapeutic.

My family owns an Ice cream store. We've had it for the past 4 years. Each summer on saturday and old lady comes in at noon. Just like she did today. I'm writing this because it just happened. This lady is 98. Her back is bent at a solid 90°. She walks 3 and a half kilometers to get to out ice cream store without fail.
