Ok, how about he acknowledges that he's killed some assholes and regrets it immensely, you know, to build context as to why Superman doesn't kill, because character development is important, something apparently that people knew even back in the Silver Age but flies right over Snyder's faggot head.

But NOT killing is NOT cool, anon. Superman is with "it". he KNOWS what "it" is, unlike you jive ass turkey
>>
>>81549166
Superman shouldn't have a no-kill code, he should be the sort that kills only in specific super-extreme situations when it really is the best option for everyone.

Boy was raised on a farm, sometimes he knows you need to pull the trigger.

So he would kill Zod like he has done in multiple movies but feel bad about it afterward even though it was a necessary course of action.
>>
>>81549182
Why are you trying to quote an Old Spice commercial from 2010?
>>
>>81549166
I love that Snyder is somehow edgier than Alan "RapeRapeRape" Moore.
>>
>>81549224
Too bad he never touches upon his guilt in DoJ, seems like a sort of important thing you'd want to, to talk about that with somebody, even if it's just for the audience, so as to not make Lex right about you.

Instead we get a guy that has the emotional stability of a limp cock who doesn't even want to really help anybody.
>>
>>81549150

This needs Hal Jordan standing by the side, looking horrified.

>>81549168

Jesus God. They really didn't pull their punches back then, did they?
>>
>>81549224
>Boy was raised on a farm, sometimes he knows you need to pull the trigger.

And he never grew beyond that.

Really?

'Superman: Redneck Son'?
>>
>>81549313
Generally, human beings can't get over how they were raised. The whole nature versus nurture argument is about that. If some kid is raised by assholes, chances are he's going to be one until he gets some serious introspection, which is a rarity.
>>
>>81549313
Its not redneck to know sometimes you have to end a life, neither are all farmers rednecks just because they live in a rural area.

Farm kids just happen have these concepts of mortality ingrained upon them at an early age.
>>
>>81549313
>Redneck
>Kansas

Farm people are not rednecks, they're hicks.
>>
>>81549286
Snyder makes terrible movies, that's a fact that is self-evident and from his interviews he is clearly a dumbass who finds it impossible to understand superheroes and constantly ladles disdain upon the concept.

Do not watch them.
>>
>>81549389
>Farm kids just happen have these concepts of mortality ingrained upon them at an early age.

Usually because farm animals don't last too long. They're engendered with a sense of responsibility regarding how life works and how unfair it can be due early life Old Yeller shit.

You have to witness Euthanasia and also deal with vermin and other wildlife in a terminal fashion to safeguard the farm and your livestock.
>>

This is a really dumb handwave, almost at the level of the strawmen your see in comicbooks where a hero that kills a particular badguy is automatically going to jump off the slippery slope and start mowing down pursesnatchers and shoplifters.

>>81549546
The whole thing about Superman is that he was raised by humans to be human, which again is Nature versus Nurture. His being raised by humans is why he likes Earth, and why he doesn't want to stop being Clark Kent. Kal's nature is Kryptonian, but he was nurtured by Earth parents who instill in him a level headed farmers morality. It's why Lois thinks of him as an innocent country boy and why Clark and Lex are supposed to be good friends, because Clark is a moral compass for Lex that gets shattered if and when Lex finds out about Clark's secret.

Clark Kent is more important to Superman's surrounding cast of characters then his being Superman. You remove the hick nature from Clark and that fundamentally changes everything.
>>
>>81549641

How is it dumb? Doesn't it follow?

I don't mean the "I killed once, now I shall kill again and again", I mean the point Superman is making about getting stronger by facing the same enemies over and over again.
>>
>>81549775
>I mean the point Superman is making about getting stronger by facing the same enemies over and over again.

He and Goku would be such bros, they should never fight.
>>
>>81549641
The thing is, it's been proven in real life repeatedly that the first kill is the hard one. Once you get over the first, it DOES become progressively easier. Entire studies have been done about this; it's why soldiers have to go through a buttload of psychological conditioning and indoctrination.
>>
>>81549641
honestly it was the only picture I happened to have saved where Superman says more than three sentences, which is what I was looking for

Snyder's Superman is exactly as passive as he used to be, just more lethal. THAT'S why it's stupid.

If this had been a scene in Batman v Superman, Superman would have carried her to the ground without saying anything or even making eye contact, while funeral music played, and then just left. Afterwards there would have been a scene of him and Lois fucking in a bathtub while the girl hanged herself in her room.

>41 And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.
>42 And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.
>43 And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:

This is why your logic doesnt work. There's no moral justification for superman to get involved in one conflict and not stop others from doing harm to the innocent.

Yes, Cap is a soldier (albeit following the ideals of the United States rather than its government). Yes, he has killed before, and if he absolutely had to, he would kill again, although that would not be a decision he would make lightly (indeed, much the same could be said of non-Snyder Superman, if you haven't forgotten about Doomsday during The Death of Superman, and Darkseid during Final Crisis; Superman, however, has less of a need to do so due to his sheer power, which means that not only can he afford to take the non-lethal route more often, he pretty much has to or else become a monster indistinguishable from the villains he fights). And yes, unlike Superman, Cap is just as mortal as any other human.

But within the context of the Marvel Universe, Cap plays much the same role as Superman: he is the paragon. He is the ideal that most people within his universe respect, even quite a few of his enemies. He is the contrast to all the guilt-ridden Spider-Men, berserk Wolverines, and bloodthirsty Punishers out there. He is the guy that other superheroes strive to be like.

Not human.
>Darkseid
Not human.

One think you must understand, the "ideals of the united states" and that's why the character is flawed. Americans ideals are not perfect.

I do agree they occupy the same role in their respective universes. But that speaks about the differences between the Universes. People like Tony would be considered Supervillians at DC.

>>81551708
So in a universe of intelligent alien civilizations you think its okay to murder things just because they are not human beings? You are fucked up.

I personally like it being the Kryptonian symbol for "hope" as well as the family crest of the House of El. It actually makes sense to have it this way when it's seen before people start calling him "Superman".

Well its true, Clark IS Clark with Superman just being his superhero alias, and Kal El might be his birth name but he's still the boy that was raised in the town of Smallville from a baby by loving human parents.
Clark Kent is who he is.

Bruce on the other hand lost his childhood when his parents were murdered in front of him, he's much more obsessed with being the Bat due to the resulting trauma.

It's been established over years that Supes doesn't want to be "supergod" because he can't solve everything and save everyone, or else it weighs on his mind. He can only be selfless and set an example for everyone to better themselves instead of doing everything for them. Superman saves a cat out of a tree instead of killing african warlords because even a small and simple gesture like saving a cat from a tree is a symbol of hope and kindness. The next time a cat gets stuck in a tree, the community thinks "What would superman do?" and makes an effort to help the cat.

This is the perfect superman page and shows what the character should be >>81551693

Doesn't even need to raise a fist. Superman is disappointed in you because you can be better than that. Superman doesn't beat you up like the bat does and gets you thrown in Blackgate. He tells you to be a better person and lets you walk away. And even the biggest assbeating from the bat wouldn't even come close to the pain you would feel that Superman is disappointed in you.

Many orphans out there never knew or experienced their birth parents, that doesn't stop their right to feel insecure because of their situation. And Clark as experienced Krypton, most of the time through the tech he has in the Fortress of Solitude, but there have been plenty of stories where he's gone there to see what he would be missing, which would only deepen the sense of lose for him.

>>
>>81555597
He didn't kill him in the film.

The comics are often shit, that doesn't make it okay for the films to also be shit.

And he could have stopped Zod another way. I mean, fuck he could have just flown up while holding him in a head lock. The scene does a monumentally bad job of making it seem necessary. Which is made all the worse since it follows scenes comprising of Supes showing absolutely zero concern for all the other people doubtlessly being killed as he battles Zod.

Ultimately it's more the terrible execution (no pun intended) that people object to. It's not that superman kills that's a problem, it's that the film handles it really, really, badly.

Someone dying from the results of your actions is different than Murdering someone.

Sometimes you're forced to end a life, sometimes they end up dying accidentaly.

>Many orphans out there never knew or experienced their birth parents
Orphans don't have a shit time because they never got to meet people they never felt anything for in the first place; orphans have a shit time because people are inherently selfish, meaning cast offs are often left in a position of total isolation after a certain age, and they've spent years in a government funded, bureaucratic, mausoleum where they were likely raped or abused in some other way. Clark never had to deal with any of that. Clark had the powers and bearing of a god, a home all his own, a community, and two parents who loved each other and cared deeply about him.

>>
>>81550514
>>81551236
Anon, this may shock and amaze you, but Superman isn't real.

This story is plainly absurd. While Superman is floating, waiting for this one jumper to calm down and talk to him, the sun in the background sinks beneath the horizon as noon becomes evening and evening becomes night. He just floats. There are almost certainly "better" ways he could be spending his time. Statistically speaking, it's almost certain that there's been a car crash or a plane accident or a murder or a robbery or a bombing or a fire or another /actual suicide/ in that time that Superman could have stopped.

That doesn't matter, because it's not real, it's a story. Superman's not a real man who has to conform to real restrictions, or balance his time between crises like a policeman or fireman might have to. He doesn't have to pick and choose, because he's a symbol - in this case, of the person who will always be there for you, who will always wait for you to be ready to talk, who will never leave you because they've got more important things to be doing, who will always respect your wishes and will always hear you out, who loves you unconditionally.

The story did not happen. Which makes what happened in the story all the more significant – there is none of the chaotic chaff of reality to drown out the truth. Everything that happened did so not because it was logical, but because it was true.

I agree with you but I feel like we have a split of idealogy similar to the Monotheist and orthodox christians.

I believe that superman is a symbol, yes. But he is a symbol of "The better man", by setting an example for the rest of humanity all of population of earth will eventually better themselves.
The endgame plan is that eventually everyone of us will better ourselves and usher an utopia, mostly I base my interpretation on All-star

>What does Superman having a no-kill code even bring to the table?

1. It shows he merits the title World's Greatest Superhero
2. It shows the warrior class doesn't rule all of existence.
3. It shows the flaws of consequentialist ideals through out history
4. He keeps the high ground
5. You can keep his saintly (notice I didn't say Jesus) or mythic parallels which distinguish him from other characters
6. Keeps the character congruent. A kind couple took a massive risk of sheltering Clark while he was at his most unpredictable and vulnerable. Thus Clark believes all life is precious.
7. World building. Clark should be rehabilitating Phantom Zone criminals. That's how prisons are suppose to work.
8. Accentuates Superman's intelligence not lack thereof.

Um, no...you're the reason every single person died in Metropolis for not taking a single precaution while you activated a alien ship that's been on Earth forever. Your "what could go wrong" attitude could have easily destroyed the Earth. ALMOST DID yet despite that killed daughters, sons, moms, destroyed people and those who survived got to watch more people die all around them.

That's not why Pat dislikes Superman, he doesn't mind moralfags, he doesn't like him because the believes that Superman is perfect and always wins which is a farce. This is the same person who rarely even reads comics and who thinks the old Lois and Clark television show has some sort of bearing on the character in terms relevance.

One of the funniest things I've heard him say is that Superman devalues him as a person. I laughed for five minutes at the thought in the insecurity and absurdity of a fictional character accomplishing that for him. Because good. He's a fat, bald, short, sheltered dumbass, who can't even drive a car, or cook, or has any skills other than making internet videos in which he plays video games for a paycheck. 99% of the people on this planet already devalue him as a person and they're fucking real.
>>

Technically it does as the only reason Doomsday killed Superman was so that they could stall in the comics long enough for his marriage to Lois to coincide with the Lois and Clark TV show.

And we can't act like his death is irrelevant because, well, BvS exists.

Superman's death was only relevant for the publicity stunt, you should know that, and that only works once with a character like Superman. And of course a television show of some popularity will mess with the comics of that day. The comics market, even the Big Two are forever desperate for exposure. But still thinking Lois and Clark is relevant to the character or has any say in continuity now is stupid and only a person who wallows in their ignorance in the subject matter would bring up how Superman can vibrate his molecules like the Flash, just because he did it once in that old show, and somehow construe that to the character on contemporary terms. Which he has done. He does the same shit for the Silver Age, bringing Superdickery up like it's continuity relevant, which fucking retarded. That's like someone thinking Batman still has the diamond encrusted deputy badge he got from the mayor of Gotham back in the day.

The US Marines used to have part of basic training be learning to kill.

With an Army ambulance nearby in case something goes wrong, they group into sets of two. You strangle your partner until they go limp. People instinctively fight, they kick and sputter and flail. They turn beet red and shudder and go limp.
The medics then revive them, give half an hour to calm down, then you get strangled. You panic, you feel more afraid than you ever have before because you just go wild then everything goes black and you wake up not even knowing how long you were out.

When you leave boot camp for specialist schools or the field, you know what its like to kill and what its like to die.

Now remember that Pa Kent was a Marine in Korea for awhile in continuity.

Honestly, I don't have a problem with that. I quite like the idea that Superman has to go against the morality of his parents. Turns him from a metaphorical Ubermensch to a literal one.
>>
>>81560360
The problem is that Landis had Superman get all meta on the Joker, but Joker wasn't allowed to do the same to Superman. Stuff like how due to comic-book restrictions there will always be an excuse to why Superman doesn't -actually- make the world better, and how even if Joker almost objectively deserves to be killed, Superman can't do it without going full alien tyrant.

It's hard to buy into the whole "Superman shouldn't be seen as god he doesn't want that" when he's descending from the heavens in a beam of light with lens flare behind him in slow motion like and angel and dies the same day as Christ.
It doesn't matter if Clark goes "I'm not a god I'm just a man" when
1. He only ever says it to one person despite having plenty of platforms to say it to people all over the world
2. The movie is going to ignore it and frame him as god anyway.

But in Snyder's world the saved cat starts a cat epidemy or Superman destroys the tree

>Like, if you’re just taking a cat out of a tree, you can’t touch anything or the arborists will say, ‘He damaged the tree branch when he got the cat down.’ Or, ‘The cat wasn’t neutered, so now there’s thousands of cats.’ There’s no winning anymore for Superman.”

It would take a creative writer, but I could see that being a pretty funny story. The toilet has been taken out of his cell due to some previous escape. The pressure builds, he starts to yo-yo, and the guards aren't buying it, due to all those escapes. The issue is him working his way through Arkham's defenses and beating guards so he can get to a toilet and take a shit.

I didn't like Pa's portrayal in MoS, but I liked Ma Kent in BvS.

Clark literally saved the entire world, and is essentially dedicating his life to helping people...and he's just constantly getting shit on for it.

Ma's point was you don't have to be Superman if you don't want to...you can just live a normal life. He doesn't owe the world anything, but he helps people because he feels its right. That's Superman.
>>
>>81570750

>>
>>81562296
Isn't this literally Luthor: Man of Steel?
>>
>>81572409
No. Fuck off. To steal from another series; with great power, comes great responsibility. The reason Superman feels an urge to save people, to help people, is because he is human. For him to retire to Kansas and live his life farming wouldn't be human, wouldn't be 'ordinary', it would be alien and unfeeling.
Superman can't live a normal life; if he can, he isn't Superman.
>>
>>81572735
because none should suffer, anon, dont you see
>>
>>81573490

It's like, half of Luthor's incarnations. You know, it's kind of funny. I've always felt that if Green Arrow and Batman just told Luthor who thy are, maybe he'd see how silly he's being. "Damn that super man. He's taking credit for saving humanity when it should be MY accomplishments they acknowledge!'
"Just do what all the other rich assholes and do it better than him."
"What?"
>"Seriously pham, We're pretty much all doing it. You're just really behind the curve."
>>
>>81571134
No? The movie said that the people thinking Superman is a god are a bunch of deranged projecting morons. Like on the news thing "Maybe he's just a guy trying to do the right thing", Lex Luthor and Batman's faggotry of deep down blaming him for not solving their problems, Batman only being inspired to stop being such a shit after he realizes that Superman is only a man "men are still good" again, it is not that complex.
>>
>>81573802

>>
>My earliest superhero memory that I can summon up with any clarity was watching the Richard Donner Superman with my dad, and there’s this amazing shot after Pa Kent dies. It’s Clark standing in a wheat field with Ma Kent talking about how it's time for him to go, to be Superman. My dad, in a not-infrequent moment of poignancy says "People say it’s the yellow sun, but if you want to know where Superman really gets his power, it’s those fields."

Watchmen is one of the most popular comics of the current age. Batman returns is as well. People like darker gritter heroes with moral failings now. Get used to it
>>
>>81577794
Character like Batman and the Watchmen are made for dark and gritty stories. Superman is not. The MOS and BVS reviews reflect that.
>>
>>81577794
And thats why I say batman should be in his own universe. That way, he can still do his dark gritty stuff without affecting everybody else

no more superman doesnt know how to use his powers unless batman tells him how to
no more an ordinary human just like me XDD beats the justice league because muh human will
no more nerfing everybody else the moment batman becomes visible

One of the truly things that really bugged me about MoS and BvS is how wrong they get Superman. To the point that it near makes me furious when thinking about it.

First you have a Ma and Pa Kent who are kinda douchebags. Giving a young Clark with a super complex about being Superman. In the comics you think he was better off being raised by the Kents but in the movies you wish that Jor-El would have built a bigger ship and went with him to earth and raised him as Kal-El

Superman being Clark Kent in the Syder films is fucking pointless. Superman is Clark because he celebrates humanity but due to the Crappy Kent's he questions if humanity should be saved in the first place

On top of that you have a Superman who does not even like being Superman. Saving people is more of a chore to Superman in the Snyder films

It could like having a kid that excelled in school or sports and their parents go "You know what perhaps you should be a garbageman, no one likes a smarty pants"

I just feel the Snyder films get Superman wrong on so many levels to the point of its not Superman to me
