Daffy has been shown living in a lake, so I guess he is more of a proper duck.

I want to make a Slayers type of adventure show, one of the main character is a racist skeleton who degrades women (think like Bender) and the villain is like a Char Clone, slash hybrid mix of Deathstroke and Deadpool. Funny but sadistic and cruel.

their will also be a plane crash episode.

I'm more into DC Comics, but I want to read some Marvel because I enjoy the MCU films and shows, so I figure they probably have some good books as well. What are some good general recommendations? I'm not into any particular genre, I'll read pretty much whatever.
Also, I've seen a lot of people recommend Civil War; although I understand it's not fondly thought of; is that worth reading anyway?

>Also, I've seen a lot of people recommend Civil War
Civil War is the very definition of casual bait. It's great if you know absolutely nothing about Marvel because it has a lot of characters in it, some cool fight scenes, a compelling concept, and you don't realise how completely out of character fucking every single character in the book is since you don't know the characters at all. If, however, you are at all familiar with them then you'll be tearing your hair out and screaming how awful the book is.

So either read Civil War first or not at all.

As for some general recs, it kinda depends on what characters you're interested in. I'd say the non-character specific "must-reads" though are:
>Marvels/Marvels: Eye of the Camera (Golden, Silver, and Bronze ages through the eyes of a photojournalist)
>Earth-X (Marvel's Kingdom Come equivalent)
>Squadron Supreme (one of the all time best Justice League comics)

Gimme a minute and I'll type up some of the definitive runs for characters.

Alright, here ya' go:
>Shooter's Marvel Superheroes: Secret Wars
>Lee/Kirby Fantastic Four
>Bendis' Ultimate Spider-man
>Miller's Daredevil
>Simonson's Thor
>Busiek's Avengers
>Morrison's New X-men
>Ellis' Moon Knight
>Iron man: Extremis
>Kelly's Deadpool
>Ennis' Punisher MAX
>Starlin's Warlock/Thanos Quest/Infinity Gauntlet
>Annihilation + all the tie-ins
>Steranko's Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD
>Fraction's Immortal Iron Fist
>Spencer's Superior Foes of Spider-man
>Thunderbolts (everything except Fightbolts and Frankbolts which I don't know the issues for off the top of my head)
>Death of Captain Marvel
>Fraction's Hawkeye
>Millar's Ultimates 1 & 2
>Peter David's Incredible Hulk (or at least Future Imperfect since his run on Hulk is extremely long with some ups and downs, but FI is a pretty self-contained story within it and one of the highest points)
>X-Statix
>Remender's Uncanny X-force
>Silver Surfer: Requiem
>Bendis' Alias
>Ellis' NEXTWAVE
>Gillen's Journey into Mystery
>The Original Writer's Miracleman
>Moore's Captain Britain
>Kirby's The Eternals
>Lee/Jenkins' Inhumans
>Brubaker's Captain America
There ya' go. All those plus the before mentioned Gruenwald's Squadron Supreme, Marvels, and Earth-X will get you a nice cross-section of most Marvel franchises. Then the ones you liked the most, you can dig deeper into those particular characters' other great runs/stories.

If there's any characters in particular you want more specific recs for, feel free to ask.

But why? What is there to hide? Is Angel secretly a FtM?

Is the Harley Quinn from Harley Quinn (2013 - ) the same Harley Quinn from New Suicide Squad (2014 - )?
If so, why is she so different (cuddly and sweet in HQ, crazy maniac in NSQ)?
If not, who are they? Two version of Harley from two different Earths? And how could I tell?

Read all of the harley quinns in comics for the last 10 or so years.
Find all of the common traits and themes.
Write them down in a little notebook.

All of those common traits, themes, and stories they keep going back to is the real comic version of harley quinn.
Whatever story they put her in today is only a temporary thing until it's forced for at least a decade or becomes really popular.

BUT because comic harley is both unknown to the public and not given a fuck about...you should just stick to the original version of her from the pre WB move BTAS and Arkham. Those are the most famous and they inform the casual majority of who she is

>The Marvel Universe is full of those who can bend reality to their will, but all it takes to undo the works of these all-powerful beings is cunning and determination. The latest divine figure to learn this lesson the hard way is Victor Von Doom, who ascended to godhood at the beginning of Marvel's "Secret Wars" event and forged the remnants of the destroyed Marvel Multiverse into the patchwork planet known as Battleworld -- a planet he ruled with an iron fist.

>What Doom didn't take into account was that a number of heroes and villains survived the destruction of the Multiverse, many of which are just as cunning and implacable as him. Those survivors began putting several different schemes in motion to destabilize Doom's hold on Battleworld and in Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribic's "Secret Wars" #8, a number of those schemes came to fruition.

>Hickman joined CBR News for a discussion about the issue's biggest events, and what they mean for Doom's hold on Battleworld. The writer explains why the scene involving the transformation of the World Tree is one of his favorite of the series, god Doom's parenting style, and the status of "Secret Wars" #9, the series' final issue, which is scheduled to arrive in early January.

>>CBR News: When we last spoke, you said "Secret Wars" #8 had what was everybody's favorite scene when you would talk about the project with other creators. If they had the same reaction I did, I'm guessing the scene in question was when Groot became the World Tree?

>Jonathan Hickman: [Laughs] Yeah, that was my favorite bit from the big battle at the end. We had Star-Lord carrying this little shard of wood, this little toothpick, around for seven issues. We were hoping people wouldn't guess what it was, as he doesn't normally do that.

>>What inspired this scene when you were coming up with the story? Did you have the idea for the visual right away?

>I always knew Doom's throne was going to be the World Tree, but then, we started going back and forth with the editors and the other creators about who some of the extra people in the raft we're going to be at the "Secret Wars" retreat. The "Guardians" movie had just come out, and we had all seen it, and I knew I wanted to write Star-Lord because Chris Pratt was so good as Peter Quill.

>I started thinking about who else I might be interested in from the Guardians, and then I remembered Doom and the World Tree, and just thought it would be cool if at a big moment, the World Tree was brought to life for Groot to become one of the big combatants in the final battle. [Laughs] I just thought it would be fun.

>And Esad hit that scene out of the park!

>Yeah, yeah. Esad can draw a little bit. [Laughs] He has a way of taking the most insane stuff that you put on the page and making it even cooler.

>>>Hickman in denial over copy-pasted art
>>
>>78072605
>>It seems like you had a great time writing Star-Lord's scenes throughout the series. What did you enjoy most about the character?

>I like that he's fun and whimsical when super-serious stuff is going on. I like that he postures, and he's basically just a dumber Han Solo. [Laughs] I really dig the character. He seems like a really fun guy to get to write every month, so I imagine both Sam [Humphries] and Brian [Bendis] have a really good time writing him as well.

>>Another thing we talked about last time was the work that went into breaking up the original size of Issue #7 into two issues. Were there any scenes that had to be cut because of length when you were transforming it into Issues #7-8?

>We didn't cut anything. The problem was, it was too long. The reality is, if we had kept #7 the way it was, it would have still come out the same day this issue did. So we just took the opportunity to chop it in half so people didn't have to wait almost two and half months for #7.

>What changed was not things that got cut, but the ordering of pages. There was a little bit of dialogue tweaking, too, and like I said last time, I will definitely switch that back when the story is collected.

>>So there are no real "deleted scenes" or anything like that?

>[Laughs] There's a lot of stuff that I wish made it into the final scripts, but nothing Esad was planning on drawing got thrown away.

The HC will be released in March 16, 2016, and there will be changes in content compared to the floppies. Maybe someone would storytime that if it is released in digital to see those changes.

>>We've discussed how Valeria being raised on Battleworld by Doom didn't change her much from her 616 counterpart. In this issue, we get a look at how being raised by Doom impacted her brother, as Franklin Von Doom tangled with Ben Grimm. It felt like this Franklin was very different from the one we're familiar with in the previous Marvel Universe.

>What's interesting about Val as a character is, she's an adult, intellectually. Emotionally, she's not, of course, but intellectually, she's an adult. She has a lot of pure knowledge, and that often translates into something that presents as wisdom. Because of who she is and what her abilities are, she's going to roughly be her, regardless of the environment. She's got this ability to kind of pull the curtain back on everything.

>Franklin, however, is an all-powerful character that's basically just a kid. Added to that, children are hyper-impressionable, and Franklin grew up on Battleworld. So this version of Franklin is a shade less nurtured.

>>Yeah, this is the Victor Von Doom-raised Franklin. It seems like he's a little less afraid of his powers.

>When your dad is a god who created a world out of fractured pieces of broken universes, you kinda have an example at home of, "It's okay to play God." [Laughs] Right? So, of course.

>>In this issue, we finally get a confrontation between god Doom and Thanos, who leads the armies of the Annihilation Wave. It's a quick one, too. What went wrong with Thanos' plan? Was he undone by his vanity?

>I think Thanos is going to be Thanos, no matter what. and in this instance, that didn't serve him very well.

>>He saw Doom as beneath him, and didn't really prepare.

>Of course he prepared. He went to the Shield, recruited an old enemy of Doom, and unleashed horror on Doom's kingdoms. I think Thanos executed his plan about as flawlessly as he could. It's just, in the end, he saw himself and Doom as equals. He was wrong. [Laughs]

/co/ I would like hear your take on Ghost, I remember seeing it for obvious reasons and was considering trying to collect the series in tradeback / omni form. What I would like to get is your thoughts, is it worth the time and effort and money?

The reviews I read were for a reboot I think, when I Googled up a few images the art appeared much older than I figured the comic was, which led to my believing that what I read was a reboot.

Awesome design, shit character and comic.

Original series was from Dark Horse's ill-fated superhero line from the mid nineties. It was the longest running of the bunch, although it too eventually faded away. Dark Horse relaunched several of those titles in the last few years, but once again none of them lasted more than a couple of years.

Anyway, I really like Ghost. It's basically about a woman investigating her own murder. Lots of conspiracies within conspiracies and shady organizations and that sort of thing. I own the five omnibuses and think they're worth every penny.

Now that the show's been out for a while, let's have a discussion about Daredevil. Which adaptation is superior: The Netflix show, or the movie?

They both have their strengths and weaknesses, but I feel like the easiest, non-controversial way to break it down is quality (film) vs quantity (TV show). Would you agree with that, and if so, what's the optimal balance for a comic adaptation? Would we be better off with shorter miniseries?

The Director's Cut of the movie is superior to the TV show. The movie gets Matt's character better (his violent nature, his contradictory relationship with his father and being a lawman/vigilante, the self-sabotaging lifestyle, the strain his night time activities have on him, the way his senses are depicted), especially his origin and dynamic with Foggy. The movie feels like proper adaptation of the comics, the show is like a crime drama that on the side happens to attempt to be comic bookey in the vaguest sense of the word. The movie's largest issue is that it attempts to cram in Elektra, Fisk, Matt's origin AND antagonism of Bullseye, all in one movie, when it clearly has no time to develop them all. As a direct result, it's pretty goofy at places. That said, the movie does a better Fisk and his downfall.

The TV show suffers from stretching the story too much which led to padding and filler to most of the episodes because X, Y and Z could not happen . Ben Urich also gets to do some properly investigating that leads to something in the movie, unlike in the show where his time is spent mostly to hold Karen's hand, MUH SICK WIFE and getting fridged so Karen could have character development and cry some more. The show also has a bad habit of introducing characters and barely developing them before they've already being written out. See: Gao who is there just to look mysterious and spout exposition in the second half of the movie, the Hand guy, Night Nurse who just disappears without explanation until to pop in again for five minutes before going away again, Owsley's just a bitchy old guy at meetings who doesn't really do much of anything and then dies like a bitch, etc.
