Speaking of Ethereum, is anyone using Kraken.com exchange?

All trading and withdrawal passwords (2FA) stopped working for some reason and I'm unable to change these passwords (says bad OTP).

Although I am able to log in.

What the fuck?

Is this how they steal coins of clients who haven't logged in after a while?

I have not made any changes and have secured my account well, nobody has accessed it. I am SURE the passwords are correct.

so, basically, i should buy bitcoin instead of wasting my time with eth?
>>
>>1238829
>3 days if you sleep only 5 hours
so, 2 bitcoins every week.
more than $900 every week.
comparably, a 40 hour week with $15 minimum wage gives you $600.

also, i'm sure once you have a couple of bitcoins you can start trading them and whatnot, if you are smart enough.
in a month you can be taking home about a $1000 every week without having to step out of your bedroom.

in theory, pretty dope.

Anyways, here's my question -
Is ethereum mining profitable for a $1000 modern specc'd PC?

one last thing - most faucets have a time limit that you have to wait to solve captcha again. like 5 minutes or 10 or 15 or an hour. and almost all of them literally pay you an average of 150 satoshis for each attempt.

10000satoshis.com has no time limit, which means, if you are quick enough, you can solve up to 4 captchas every minute.
at an avg of 30k satoshis per captcha, that earns you about 120,000 satoshis every minute.

i think you can calculate how much you can make in a day.

if you are literally jobless, i think faucet-licking should be what you should be doing without hesitation.

I'm not sure I want to use this 10000satoshi thing unless someone has had a positive experience. I'm not going to accrue 10,000,000 "satoshi" just to find out it doesn't work. I've also had a positive experience with faucets that pay out at ~13,000 satoshi, which is far more achievable.

>anyways, is mining newer, cheaper crypto-currencies still profitable, though?
Probably if it jumps up, I've never looked into it really. Btw you should still try to cash out on at site, maybe you will get lucky and get something.
>>
>>1239150
i did google about mining, and well, bitcoin is a lost cause.
i'm still interested in ethereum.

>maybe you will get lucky
kek, i'm not so sure now. but yeah, i'll check it till the end anyway. maybe the website owner turned around and started putting his bitcoins where his words are. not holding my breath though.
can't believe i almost thought earning money wasn't that difficult.
>>
>>1239047
>so, 2 bitcoins every week.
>more than $900 every week.
>comparably, a 40 hour week with $15 minimum wage gives you $600.
Are all cryptotards this fucking dense? Only sleeping 5 hours a day means you are working 19 hours. 3 days of 19 hour shifts nets you 1 bitcoin. Thats 57 hours of typing captchas just for $450 bucks, compared to the mimimum wage job where you are only working 40 hours for $600 bucks. If you double it to get 2 bitcoin you are working 114 hours a week just for $900 bucks. Holy shit all this just to avoid being labeled a "wageslave". Wow.
>>
>>1239303
>Only sleeping 5 hours a day
>so much calculation
>still not correct
this is why you'll always be a wageslave [or a neet]

alright let's do it properly.

in my experience, most faucets give out 100 satoshis every 5 minutes.
we'll assume you can solve 1 captcha per minute and you have at least 5 different websites opened.
hence, you cycle back to 5 websites in 5 minutes, each paying you on an average 100 satoshis.
>500 satoshis every 5 minutes
>500*12 = 6,000 satoshis every hour
>6,000*8 = 48,000 satoshis for a regular 8 hour work day
>48,000*5 = 240,000 satoshis for a 5 day work week

>$450 for 100,000,000 satoshis
>100,000,000 / 240,000 = 416.6667
>it will take 416.66 work weeks to earn 1 bitcoin
>only 52 weeks in a year

* the maximum i could go was solving 3 captchas every minute.
>15 captchas every 5 minutes for avg 100 satoshis each
>1,500 satoshis every 5 minutes
>1,500*12 = 18,000 satishis every hour
>18,000*8 = 216,000 satoshis every 8-hour work day
>216,000*5 = 1,080,000 satoshis every work week

again,
>$450 for 100,000,000 satoshis
>100,000,000 / 1,080,000 = 92.59259
>it will take take 92.25 work weeks to earn 1 bitcoin
>only 52 weeks in a year

if someone wants to add the weekends as well, it will still probably only give you 2 bitcoins in a year.

hence, faucets are a suicide-tier method to get bitcoins.
you'd be smarter to try and take advantage of the daily price fluctuations.

Do you want to know why people become rich?
read - Capital in the Twenty-First Century, by Thomas Piketty
tl;dr - money attracts money like a magnet.
>>
What the fuck are you talking about? The original premise (that you proposed I might add) is that through 10000satoshi it takes
> [3 days if you sleep only 5 hours] to make a bitcoin
You said it right in this post >>1238829 you jackass. You were the one who was claiming it, not me. My whole point is that even if it was possible, it still pays worse than a minimum wage job because if you only get 5 hours of sleep that means you are working 19 hour days. It doesnt matter though because you got BTFO by someone else who said it was a scam. Now you are recanting and saying you can only get 2 bitcoins a year through faucets. You are a complete retard and need to kill yourself.
>>
>>1239394
i recanted here >>1239357 because this thread has made me realize that 10000satishi is a scam and so went back to the verified websites, which, unfortunately, only pay me 100 satoshis per solved captcha.

let me retrace -
1. i started by believing that 10000satoshi was legit and i i worked really hard i could make 2 bitcoins every week. then in a month or 2 i could start trading them and try to make profit from the daily fluctuations.
2. i realized in this thread that 10000satoshi is a scam and won't pay me shit.
3. i went back to calculating how much i could make from 100-satoshi-per-captcha websites, and i realized that faucet-licking is suicide-tier.
4. i'm now gonna delete all my wallets and concentrate on getting a proper day job.
5. if i have to trade crypto-currencies, i'll first buy them using hard cash, and then trade them.

are we clear now?
do i actually have to apologize for believing in a scam faucet? i did start the thread by accepting i was a crypto-currency noob.
>>

Blockchain Rtard here. Lot of people saying that you could program a contract that will give X money at Y time every week or something. But whats the benefit to a humble person who doesn't care doing this over a scheduled direct debit payment at a bank.

From my understanding the main benefit is the fact that people dont have to join a bank (really poor people) can send money internationally without payments.

Help a scrub understand how Blockchain could help scrubs.

Or better yet I can pay cash for cash to someone who has a circle account that doesn't have limits since the limit is only on deposits not sending or receiving.

I spent the $300 I could so I only need $1700, if someone has a circle account that can send that amount of money and a preferred method of payment like paypal or whatever, I can just pay them $1700 and they can send $1700 from circle. I'd pay for fees, etc. obviously.

Why would a layman utilise a smart contract to send someone money when they can just transfer money at a bank on a schedule via direct debit.

I understand the benefits to the Blockchain tech and smart contracts but I'm wondering why would the average person bother. Do laymen care about having 3rd parties involved?

In my limited experience BTC seems really easy to work with once you actually have any, it's just going from USD to BTC quickly is the problem, I doubt most people need to get more than $300 a week like this.

USD seems to be the real issue here, ETH is what in the end, I can trade BTC for that easily in seconds so I'm certainly not annoyed with BTC but turning USD into ETH or BTC is proving to be annoying, instead of seconds it would take weeks for the same amount, which is funny since the reverse isn't true, I could easily go from the $2k ETH or BTC equivalent to cash in about an hour and that's all just transaction time no artificially imposed limit.

You're on your own with that one mate.

What's going on with TRUMPS?

I bought 10k of them for 1 BTC before they hit ver.2 but now they are twice as low price.

What gives? Will it rebound? Am I fucked?

Yep you were pumped then dumped - your only hope is to pump the shit yourself. Put a sell order in - the wright a fake article and link it to reddit or something. A few assholes buy then you hand them your bag and split - (actually made 1200 on trump coin)
>>
What's the deal with bitcoin doublers exactly?

I mean they can't just steal your shit right away and tell you to fuck off after 100 hours right? At the same time if you could really double your coins so easily no one would ever do anything else.
So how does the scam work? Is it like casinos where they lose on purpose until you bet all your savings?

The betting games? Or the "investing" ones. The ones where you invest, they basically take your bit coin and invest it somewhere. Usually it's just a scam though.

Sys is getting pumped this weekend once ETH is dumped again. Get in and make an easy 50% or cry later.
>>
Where's this newfound enthusiasm for Eth coming from? Volume traded has doubled in 24hrs, buy orders slowly increasing with the price increase.
This would just be your typical pre-weekend pump right? What will trigger the dump, what am i looking for? Drastic jump in sell orders, somewhere in the 50% range?
>>
>>1243669
Probably the DAO. There'll be an eth price increase within 24h for the DAO tokens so alot of people are buying eth in order to get last minute DAO tokens.

And?

He'd be a fucking idiot not to sell some and diversify his assets.

I'm surprised he didn't sell more.

I would be more worried about ETH if he didn't sell anything, as it would show that the lead developer is a fucking idiot.

Speaking of fucking idiots, you are one.

Buying a ton of used ASIC miners: Still a huge waste of money?
>>
>>1248182
how much they cost?
>>
>>1248185
Im lurking Ebay right now, and there's a lot of Antminers for under a hundred bucks that will push between 400-1000Gh/s. Wondering if a hodgepodge of machines could conceivably make a profit in the foreseeable future by attacking new coins on free electricity. Dont think they'd work with a lot of them, though. The old hashing methods aren't in style anymore.
>>
>>1248194
Ask yourself this: if they still work, why are they on sale for so cheap?

Huh, see? Smart, right (taps side of head)?
>>
>>1248204
That, or some fool thought he would get rich off a single one, bought it new for like 500-2000 bucks, realizes he is now broke and cant make rent, and needs that hunk of metal gone now.

I haven't been into cryptocurrency since Dogecoin was at 200 Satoshi and Ethereum hadn't evolved beyond a flashy presentation, so it has been a while, but I'm thinking of getting back into it.
I have two big questions:
1/ Are Nvidia cards still entirely unfeasible for mining? If no, is it possible for a 970 to net me anything more than pennies?
2. Are there still pools that mine shitcoins and dump them whenever it's most profitable?
>>
>>1219391
BTC and ETH are literally the only coins worth consideration. Even then ETH is more a hedge against BTC than an investment in and of itself.

I noticed ETH went down to ~7 bucks but wasn't around or keeping up. It's up to 10 bucks now and I noticed the DAO shit going on. Is there a chance of it going down around 7-8 again any time soon?

Bandwagon? No. ETH is still a meme.

But it's established itself as "coin #2". If BTC fails ETH will pick up where BTC left off. I would not recommend buying ETH alone but if you have substantial BTC holdings ETH serves as a good "insurance policy".

Most ETH holders don't understand/care to know the technology behind the coin. Sure they memorize a few buzzwords (muh smart contracts) but all they really see is the next BTC with dreams of $400 per coin and Lamborghinis. Can ETH do some things better than BTC? Yes. But those things will NOT trump BTC's first mover advantage or its massive infrastructure - unless BTC melts down completely. Then and only then will ETH have the chance to become "money" and moon.

With the "civil war" going on right now that meltdown % is non-0 but I'd still argue quite low given the massive economic incentives to prevent such a thing from occurring. If you buy ETH today know you are effectively shorting BTC - if you are solely interested in the tech (no one on /biz/ don't worry) you are massively overpaying. If the BTC civil war ended tomorrow ETH would drop like a rock.

If you own a lot of BTC (21+ coins) it makes sense to pick up some ETH on the off-chance BTC goes to 0. Otherwise, save yourself the headache and skip this meme.

Literally every other coin is pure cancer and should be avoided 100% unless you have insider information and can P&D successfully.
>>
Honestly are people still buying ETH really?

>>1251396
yes, look at the prices

ETH is not a meme. It's a legitimate bitcoin competitor with VC funding and a tangible founder with intellectual clout.

kekkles

looks like the mouthbreathing BTC spamposter has finally come around and stopped telling people to not invest in ETH

ethereum is the future. bitcoin is already dead and everyone holding it doesn't realize it yet

bitcoin is a small piece of shit. "first mover advantage" means nothing when the core technology is trash in comparison to ethereum

told ya, nerd :^)
>>
>>1252760
I am, was about to sell at 50% loss and get into ETH more with that. Then the Dev re-appeared online and it looks like the spam advertising is going to start again. Also apparently it has good tech for a memecoin.

4k deep in the DAO my nigga. Crystal ball prediction for the end of DAO creation.

>people hold for a while waiting for the first vote
>community goes back and forth for a little about what the terms should be for slock.it proposal
>DAO token trading opens right at the end of creation and prices rocket up pretty quickly
>day traders sell heavily and prices fall
>/biz/ cries muh pump and dump
>those in the know either hold or sell at the top to rebuy the dip
>a year from now, cucks will cope and cry

Current exchange is 10 cents per DAO token. I'm betting it jumps up to 40 cents at least once exchanges allow it in.
