Best way to really get the hang of it is to practice gesture drawing. Once you do a TON of that, then you'll be able to start making things from thin air.

its not bad, it might help you to study some different methods of constructing figures though
all my 'real' stuff is done with like 7 layers of okay here's a skickman, posing with balls for joints, alright now make it a crash test dummy and keep an eye on the center/action line, then start building the form over it.
i cant speak for guys that can just pump scribble anatomically correct figures in one go though, im a beginner myself.

thank you very much guys. this is definitely the most fruitful moment of my whole life at /b/. didnt even know about that /ic/ board. i really wanted to draw... im currently a halftime programmer, halftime SE student. i used to practice with a book that taught you how to see, but that was before needing to work. i can really now copy anything, even from real life (maybe some shades and stuff are still very bad, but i can clearly see shapes) but what i really want is to be able to draw from imagination.
