It fits better with the theme at the end of the part anyways, Morioh's golden spirit and what not, just one act of kindness made Josuke grow into a kind person, and while no one knew of Kira the kindness and bravery of those involved will carry over to the rest of the town, just as it did onto Josuke.
No one actually stops to think what the point of such a plot point would be, go back and save yourself, okay, what then? what did that accomplish? I guess its a bootstrap paradox, but it doesn't really change or add anything, it would just undermine the backstory. Araki's not one to fall into predictable plots anyways.

After doing larger groups for so long (Stardust Crusaders started in 1991 iirc, and SO ended in 2004) he probably wanted to try his hand at a smaller but more thought out and developed cast with his improved skills over the years. SBR ran longer than he wanted it too since he underestimated how slow a monthly release schedule really was which is why it got kind of rushed in places and characters like Sandman just disappear only for Araki to remember they exist and then brings them back only to kill them. I liked their relationship though, it's what Araki focused on most in SBR and it definitely shows and more than makes up for it's shortcomings.

Scratch the survived part, it's doesn't make sense.
Basically, there was an alternate universe with slight differences. One of those differences is that the plot takes place significantly earlier, back when that hair style was actually taken seriously. Josuke ended up involved in the fight against Pucci but got lost and trapped in a blizzard in an alterante universe. Jojos can sense each other's presence and strength. He felt his alternate self dying and saved him. Meanwhile, another character managed to beat Pucci, creating a new alternate timeline similar to what happened at the end of part 6. past! Jojo ended up bumped into that universe, which is why he was never seen again

The point is that its a wasted slot, its situational and unrelated to the actual manga, not only do yo have to like playing vidya, you have to own a PS3 and one specific game on it, and as the years go by it becomes more irrelevant. I re-read part 4 recently, and I don't really get it, when Kira gets bites the dust, was he just planning to keep it going and live the same day forever? Or could he just not tell that the day was repeating unless Hayato did something weird that tipped him off?

After he sets BtD the first time he doesn't realise when time rewinds anymore since KQ isn't 'attached' to him. So when he first uses it he presumably placed it on his dad to turn back time one hour to when Hayato wasn't dead, then removed it from his dad and put it on Hayato himself. Because it stayed on Hayato after that Kira didn't remember when time rewinded after that but Hayato did. That's also why he remembered after he thought he put it on the nurse, and how Hayato was able to trick him in the first place.
Here's what I think happened about the backstory plot hole: That guy WAS Josuke, but not exactly either of the ones we know. No, that guy was a third Josuke, one from the universe that came BEFORE part 1. In this universe, the events of stone ocean and diamond is unbreakable got blended together and pushed back a decade or three. In this universe, Josuke's hair was in style at the time, and Kira was Dio's most devoted follower who after many near-defeats managed to wipe out everyone but Josuke, acquire an arrow, and create his own personal heaven where he could live a quiet life and be around beautiful hands. At that point, Josuke ended up injured and alone in the new universe in the midst of a blizzard
As we know, Jojos can sense each other's presence and strength. Lost in the blizzard, Joskue found himself guided towards the the dying beacon that was his alternate self. He didn't know who the boy was, or where in the new universe he had found himself. He only knew that there was a dying family member in the backseat of that car, and he was the only one who could do something to save him.
After this, he set off in search of Kira who was shocked to learn he survived. Their fight continued, but after a long battle Josuke finds himself with the upper hand. Seizing his last chance Kira stabbed himself with the arrow, empowering his stand with his one true desire: a safe place to live a quiet life among beautiful hands.
In short, his stand became the ghost alley, and the hands he dreamed of are the ones that dragged the old Josuke to hell. That would have been the end, if not for two key points:
1: the ghost alley stand was autonomous and immortal
2: Josuke was determined to drag Kira to hell with him
As the hands dragged Josuke to hell and Kira along with him, Kira dropped the last arrow, which would later be found by Keicho Nijimura. The ghost alley stand remained behind, maintaining the new universe rather than resetting it

At first I thought that the new OP was really unfitting tonally for JoJo, but it's not hitting me that it's actually perfect. The Diamond Is Unbreakable OPs have been very different from the previous ones so far in general, with Crazy NoisyPeace and Lovebeing very light hearted and catchy.
The Phantom Blood, Battle Tendency, and Stardust Crusaders OPs were all very hot blooded. Which reflects their parts. Sono Chi No Sadame being very dramatic and grand, matching the tone of the part as well as the fact that it kicks off this great adventure which spans generations. Bloody Stream was equally as hot blooded but much funkier, light, and colorful. Just like BT.
The SC OPs have a similar tone to Sono Chi No Sadame, which fits because SC hotblooded (easily the most hotblooded part) and connects very heavily to the events of PB.
Then DIU comes around, which is a huge tonal shift for the series. Taking the globe trotting adventure and turning it into a slice of life mystery set in a single small town. Crasy Noisy Bizarre Town is catchy, and light. No hot bloodedness at all really. Which makes sense because all the episodes it's preceding are very light. No major villain has been introduced, and every episode we're meeting new characters who will recur later. Every encounter so far has just been an inconsequential little adventure had in this crazy little town.
Rohan is the last addition to the main cast, however. Which means Kira is close, very close. He's the next real villain we'll be seeing, if you don't count Ted Cruz next episode. As the narrator said many a time, something dark is looming over the town. This new OP is a very dark, and it reflects that.
Kira is about to plunge this crazy noisy bizarre town into darkness.

Kira is arguably the darkest of every JoJo villain. All the others have some grand scheme on a scale that sort of disconnects you from how evil they really are, except for Diavolo who just wants to shitpost.
Kira just wants to kill people. He doesn't have plans of world domination or anything insane like that. He just kills people.
It's so small scale that it feels more personal, and that makes it much darker.

Buccellati's sacrifice helped get Giorno into power so he could make a difference and Gyro's death helped Johnny survive and go on to stop Valentine from using Love Train and also use some of his winnings to pay the amnesty to get Marco freed, which in turn eventually led to the abolishment of the death penalty entirely.

I think an OVA series to the like of Yamato 2155 or LoGH would be perfect for Part 7, but my issue with that is that it would sell like shit compared to the other parts. Unless they get a sponsorship on Crunchy or Hulu or Netflix to post that shit. Or it gets on a special block monthly. Which would be odd. Although I can see if they have no choice but to make Part 7 on TV. They would have to make it 50 or 70 episodes and trim it similar to Part 4. Although as you said it is too fucking expensive to make unless they CGI the fuck out of it and censor everything.

Because of the anime. It was well known because it's huge in Japan and non-English Europe but it never caught on in the English community because of how difficult it was to find or hear about unless you were internet savvy back in the day. With the internet being everywhere now and an anime receiving sort of official subs on release it's far more accessible and plenty of people who've never heard of it before are able to experience it.

You say that, but look at it this way, Part 7 could be done in two different runs, similar to what they did for Part 3, but each series around the length of this Part 4 run. JoJo prints money so it's doable length wise.
The only real problem is the horses, and for that we might just have to accept CGI. It's come a long way, and this adaptation would only be happening a few years in the future anyway, so there is time for it to be more refined.
I'd be willing to suffer CGI horses for the glory of a two part Steel Ball Run anime.

Drawing a horse is not hard. Animating a horse is.
I feel a good example of this is the animated movie spirit. It's been a while since i watched any videos on how they animated it but it was a labor of love that took them years and years to get right.
And it looks amazing.
Obviously no one is asking DP to have something Dreamworks quality, but, at the same time it gives you an idea of how grueling it is to do.
It's not as simple as everyone makes out to be. It's not that easy by any means.

The amount of horses in SBR is one thing, but even when there's one or two horses in an anime it'll resort to CGI.

That's exactly what I mean, 1.5 to 2 monthly chapters is basically 3-5 weekly chapters depending on length which gives them plenty of time to do that. There's obviously some issues with chapters where a lot happens but they can do 1.5 fine for those or just make it fast paced.

Horses move in a very unique way. If you try and screw with that it looks retarded.
Have you watched any animes where like dogs just kinds scoot along. That's just a fucking dog and even if you half ass it, it still looks fine.
You can't do that with horses. Honestly. If you want to understand why this is such a task I'd look up the making of Spirit. It's a bit different in that movie because they had to do a lot of facial stuff with the horses since they don't talk but making them run and stuff. They go over all of that. And it's a lot of work because if you half ass a horse animation it looks stupid. Especially because you have horses in a race setting and a LOT of horses.
Spirit deals with a similar situation that part 7 has because of the amount of horses and they're always running.
I'm not an artist or an animator. I can't give you detailed specifics. But I remember loving Spirit as a kid and I watched tons of stuff on how it took them years to make that movie what it was.

To start off with there's over 4000 horses in the opening part of the race, and while we don't need to see all of them all the time it's going to be difficult to make it look consistent in motion since there'll always a fuckton in the background of each shot even if it only focuses on a few characters at once. Plus they'll no doubt reuse horse animations given how many there'll be and later on in the series it'll stick out like a sore penis. Also it's harder to make them look convincing, they have a lot more muscles and shit that need to be studied before drawing them than humans do if you want it to look at least vaguely grounded and not completely retarded, even Leonardo da Vinci had issues trying to draw horses so he cut a bunch open to learn how they worked and produced anatomical diagrams that are way more complex than humans in terms of motion and muscles. They're notoriously hard to get right in stills and animating horses in 2D is a nightmare compared to just doing a 3D model and calling it a day.
Mostly it boils down to it being inherently difficult to draw horses let alone animate them, there being a fucking LOT on screen at the beginning and it being guaranteed to reuse animations since there are so many shots of them just riding horses and they aren't gonna do original animations for all of them, let alone half of them.

But Spirit focused on the horses, whereas SBR focuses almost entirely on the riders.
They could get away with using lots of shots that focus on closeups of the rider bouncing in the saddle rather than spending too much time and effort on the horse itself, since it's also going to be the rider that the eye is drawn to.

There going to be doing more than just the jockey shots. Do you know how awful that will be if we just see jockey shots for the starting of the race. Not the horses hooves on the grounds, or their snouts, and the heavy breathing. Think about the animation direction for a moment please. There's so much to it than just saying Yeah but it's mostly the rider so who cares?
And even if they do that. You still see the horses a lot. Johnny rarely is off his horse. You still need to be able to draw them decently in almost every scene. This isn't something that can just be half assed. And because of how detailed and muscular horses are, to draw them properly is a herculean task. do you want to see the korean animatiors drawing horses when they can't even get people right?
I know it's kind of hard to understand why this is a process if you're not an animator but it really is. It's easier to slap a whole bunch of 3d horses on the screen and be done with it than trying to draw them all.
Everyone here complains about the quality on the best looking season yet. You'll all have something to cry about when the horses show up.
