You don't need an airbrush if you're a beginner.
A couple of decent brushes and some basic paints should be enough to get you started, though of course that depends on what kind of paintjob quality you're aiming for.

You can also use a simple brush. You will have some problems to simulate camo patterns that were sprayed in reality, but any sharp edged camouflage will work just fine with a brush.
