Judai got fucked up multiple times in S1 and S2. He was nowhere near perfect. Ryo was better than him. Edo was his equal at the very least, Kaibaman blew him back. S3 Judai was the complete opposite of a Gary Stu. He was headstrong and didn't listen to his friends when their lives were on the line leading to them all dying. Then after being saved by more friends that ended up dying for him he was extremely depressed that he fucked up so badly and couldn't even use his fusion card because of all the pain he caused with it.
S4 Judai wasn't an edgelord. He was a guilt ridden teen who wanted to leave Duel Academia because he fucked all his friends over. He was trying to run from his problems instead of facing them.
Yuma was incredibly impulsive to start Zexal and didn't listen to a thing anybody said. Throughout the show he grew into a more patient person who tried to understand how others felt instead of dueling over them. He went through depression when Astral died, depression when he didn't know what to do about all the revenge obsessed characters in the WDC, broke his trust with Astral when he trusted Rei which caused Astral to snap, was afraid of Mizael because of the dream he had which caused more friction with Astral etc.

This part of GX seriously seemed like a child's fanfiction.
Also, when I said "from Season 1 to Season 3", I meant "until Season 3", because S3 was the only decent part of the entire series and during S3 Judai wasn't actually insufferable to watch, at least until he turned into Supreme King and suddenly became an edgelord. But AT LEAST he developed as a character during S3. S4 retconned everything by resurrecting every single character who died and stripped him of a reason to act the way he did.

Judai never beat Ryo and never beat Kaibaman. No one considered Yusei a Gary Stu in the beginning of Arc-V so you're making a shitty comparison.

Yuma being a good duelist after what he started out as has to do with his quality as a character. Yuma started Zexal off as someone who refused to listen to others and would only duel his way. He grew as a character and was able to trust others. Yuma realized he needed Astral and Astral realized he needed Yuma. Yuma stopped being a brat and started taking everything seriously. Early Yuma didn't even like Astral and wouldn't admit when he needed help. Later Yuma loved Astral and was depressed when they were apart.

It most likely will happen all things considered. Per YGO tradition too there will probably be someone else behind him pulling all the strings. The show wasted numerous opportunities to show us what kind of person Leo was. We learned nearly everything about XYZ in Standard and Synchro. XYZ arc was basically just affirming what we already knew to be the case + providing finishing touches on Shun and showing Yuyato

Standard meandered for 25 eps and got us to know the world, its characters, and the basic plot.
Synchro meandered for 25 eps and got us to know its world, its sociopolitical status, its backstory, how academia has influenced its growth, and it developed most of the cast to a solid degree.
You can certainly argue it rushes the climax of each arc to some degree, but you could never argue the plot itself has been rushed.

What was the exact point of Synchro's worldbuilding and knowing its sociopolitical status though? It had no connection with the overall plot and was largely self-contained in its own arc. I would argue it wasn't even necessary and was there as a plot device to drive Synchro's own story.
It could've been executed better to involve Academia even more heavily than it already did and provide insight on how Academia influences the general public to go along with its wishes/how Leo imposes his will on the people. Instead we got some dumb spy mission where the Jobelisk force was unconcerned with taking over the dimension and simply wanted to find Serena and Yuzu according to Leo's orders.
Regarding the development of the cast, if they were going to split them up in XYZ it would've been better to split the development too and focus on characters that weren't going to be teleported to Heartland in Synchro. Gon and Sawatari's development was pretty rushed considering there's so many characters in this show that try to be relevant. Yet they had more space to breathe in XYZ. Too bad their duel against Kaito made them both look like morons.
Arc-Vs pacing is definitely an issue. It's been over 110 episodes and we still don't even know some of the most basic things. Forget the bracelets and the HITOTSU NI.
What is Leo trying to accomplish through uniting the dimensions? Surely we could had more insight on this.
What is Yusho's real purpose for leaving Standard? We just found out he and Leo were responsible for creating the Solid Vision system so he's more competent than some guy who wants to make kids all over the universe smile in their duels.
What is Reiji's true relationship with Leo like? We only saw that brief flashback where he stumbled into Academia and saw Leo doing bad things. We never understood the full grasp of that from Reiji's point of view. How did his feelings about Leo change? Does he know some things we don't? Too bad he hardly appears.

Well, it feels like the point of Synchro's worldbuilding and related activities were for the sake of personifying one of the three major parties in the dimensional war, which ultimately serves to give a face to all the people who would be affected by the dimensional war as a whole, much akin to how Standard did that in its arc. Additionally, it wasn't entirely disconnected from the plot with consideration to the fact that Roger's tech was noted to radically destabilize the City's Tops/Commons problem even more than it was before. Furthermore, it's well established that since Roger hasn't been molested by Academia's forces, that at least initially the plan was to subvert control of the dimension so as to weed out any resistance before it can start, as established by the mind chip system and how Roger had the City's defensive forces dancing in the palm of his hand.
I agree that Academia not having a more direct influence on the arc was a misstep that could've served to draw greater focus to its threat.
I agree that the development of the cast might've been better sorted out had they split it between Synchro and XYZ; however, I do like the idea of Synchro as a sort of stable environment wherein the characters are given time to get their bearings, so I'm not entirely sold on changing that as a whole.
Story pacing, agreed. Although, it felt like they were trying to set that up as endgame material from the start, so the issues with that felt somewhat mitigated by that.
Leo's plan feels strictly endgame since knowing more about Fusion seems to be something that will completely flip the situation on its head based upon what we've seen of Hitotsu ni.
Yusho's stuff seems like it'll gradually get unveiled in Fusion considering the arc is centered upon that dimension and each arc has notably focused largely on the perspective of the dimension's inhabitants.
Hopefully Reiji gets his needed time in Fusion; there's a lot of ground that needs to be covered.
The only way to save Arc-V is to embrace the stupid and go full Barian Invasion tier
