We only know that the arena fight was some time between the latest chapter and the one before it. Chrollo clearly had an idea of what to infiltrate and that was only established in the few chapters before the fight.
The time skip was several days long and the very end with Hisoka on the hunt made the timing even more ambiguous. Days could have passed between his fight with Chrollo and Shalnark. He could have had his revenge and massacred the Spiders like Chrollo's predictions out of spite, but Gon and Killua got involved and he realized he has to look out for his friends and not be such an edgy shithead all the time, even if it means letting murders and justice go. His temperament and morals develop carefully, like the opposite of Sasugay who only grows edgier.
