Okay. Consider how much money the industry actually made before mass pirating and streaming. Back when DVDs were a thing. So basically the only way for plebs to watch anime in high quality was to buy or rent dvds, and everyone else slowly downloaded fansubs. Back then Japanese DVDs didn't have translations and the price of anime DVDs was like $30 for an entire season. And yet somehow the Japanese industry was making four times what it is now from overseas.
The problem isn't that CR doesn't give enough money. It's that there's no incentive for anime nerds to pay anything. CR is providing an incentive again. This is the most important factor, not how much money the industry is actually getting in comparison to buying Japanese dvds.
The vast majority of anime watchers will torrent before they import a dvd. The vast majority of anime watchers will stream before they torrent. So getting pennies from the streamers is the better option.

It was less than what they made during the digital boom of the 00s. The anime industry experienced exponential growth from the mid 90s up through the '10s, which was phenomenal when the rest of the country's industry was shrinking. You had more anime being produced and more profit being made by studios in the 00s than at any other point in anime's history.
And all that despite widespread digital piracy that became more and more common in the 00s. True, digital distribution of anime had been a thing since the 90s, but in the 00s it became more mainstream and by the mid 00s, when anime was breaking industry records for profit, anime piracy was also at an all time high since legal streaming had only started up.
It's only in the last couple years that the industry's rampant growth has plateaued. Profits are still really high, but they aren't increasing by leaps and bounds anymore like in the 00s.
As for overseas sales, the sharp drop in revenue from the west coincided with two things: the global economic recession, and the rise of Crunchy Roll. As much money as CR makes, they still haven't managed to replace the profit margins Japan once saw from the west, so they're definitely more of a sponge than a conduit.

So I've decided to look up if there were any announcements for newer Griffon figurines this year and I haven't found any.
