Yep. Fuuta's brand is to mark him out for his crimes while Koko's scar is supposed to be a reminder of her own "warrior spirit". So I suppose their missing limbs in this life is supposed to represent the peace they came to in Houtarou's life.

>Mutant Fused Scholar Priest = Antagonist
There was a recap in Sengoku Youko that described Jinka as the protagonist of part one and the antagonist of part 2 and was trying to hype up a conflict between thousand-tailed Jinka and Senya the thousand demon.

>o I guess Fortuna is the biggest threat in the Mizukamiverse since the DMs had to pull off:
>a.) the earth's spirit taking physical form
>b.) extraterrestrial beings

In Psycho Staff to deal with the main threat, the following forces were used:
a.) a man described as being like a god of the land
b.) extraterrestrial beings

Anyways apparently not all aliens are created equal. Some are weird slightly abstract Stanislaw Lem/Arthur C Clarke/etc things and some of them are cute as hell

I just marathoned the series, damn it was good. That part with the handshakes across the timelines made me teary-eyed.

I will say that I'm not a fan of the literal deus ex machina ending though.
>>
>>139317849
This arc is what pushed this series to masterpiece to me. It does so many things well across the board, I mean the premise is great but the execution of the past lives interconnecting is nearly flawless. But this arc is so out there and could easily be it's series it makes the whole thing transcend great.

The part with the aliens wasn't so much foreshadowed as lampshaded. It took place before the actual ending, but was so out-of-place, blatant, and unconnected to the rest of the lives that it can't be called foreshadowing.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>139318302
Well, yeah. It was literally gods intervening, as you pointed out. But I don't think it's really unconnected to the themes that Mizukami runs with. Namely, a high level of supernaturalism, multiple lives and universes, planet spirits, and becoming gods.

Having literal megabeings behind things is just an additional hint on how the multiverse works. At a depth we likely won't reach, usually. But Fortuna forced their hand.
>>
>>139318302
It was however hinted that there were greater beings watching the situation with stakes in the story i.e Spascifica and it turned out both the aliens and space ghost were their avatars. The rebirth cycle also explained that spirits evolve as they reincarnate so it was established that human souls would eventually become something greater.
>>
>>
>>
>>139318370
Yes. He "failed."
>>139317450
It was definitely intentional on Ash's part, no thanks to his stupid complex.
>>
>>
>>
>>139318302
I mean there's a fucking reincarnation cycle, I think that there were gods and that they would need to intervene has been in play for a while. It was the best endings but it was still pretty awesome.
>>
>>139318492
>I mean there's a fucking reincarnation cycle
>I mean there's a fucking circle of spirits
>>
>>
>>
Last one.
>>
>>139318447
Ha! I hadn't picked up on that possibility with that "compared to you". If he still hasn't let go of his grudge after that many lives, he'll be a total pain in the ass in Fuuta's life too.

Of course, he may have just fucked up. I'm not sure he'd really try and slaughter the entire planet just due to some resentment of Lafalle. He showed a lot of control in this life compared to the earlier ones.

>>139318398

>>139318492
A good non deus-ex ending would've been like the anon pointed out, if the gods were in fact just further reincarntions of humans that have reincarnated so many times they transcended humanity.
>>
>>139318616
It seems like they might be, it's a little ambiguous.
>>
>>139318616
They might be. But really, it's not on a level we'd expect Fuuta to have access to. It would be too much to expect all the answers from his dream.
>>
>>139318616
Well Earth looks like Kouko and and Wind looks Fuuta. Both of them had rock and wind motifs to their various names as well. Plus Fuuta was muttering out "Thank you" after waking from the cosmic D&D session.
>>
>>139318589
I mean it may have just been a subconscious thing, but it definitely wasn't an accident.
>>
>>139318583
Thanks for the dump anons!
>>
>>139318413
The aliens were kind of out of left field and I don't think they are explained very well. It's admittedly not a big leap to presume they were just pieces on the board from one of the supreme beings in the last chapter, but that still kind of sucks insofar as it runs counter to one of the big themes of the whole comic (and one Mizukami's major themes in general imo): Your fate doesn't rule what you have to do, and even if it does, you can still meet it on your own terms.
>>
>>139318598
Hang on. A time travelling robot cat... Where have I seen that before?
>>
>>139318692
Nah, I'm with the other anon, if he was still that pissed off at Lafalle he could have easily just let him die in that accident. He was working on his anger and wouldn't have toasted himself and most of the world just to get at him.
>>
>>139318707

>>
>>139318698
>Your fate doesn't rule what you have to do, and even if it does, you can still meet it on your own terms.
But that still held up in the final conflict. The difference between the timelines they saw and lived through split with the babies. Fortuna would have gone on to win if that hadn't shaken him up and gave Fuuta and his past lives the will to fight back. With the way things were going the butterfly net would have been ignored if that hadn't happened.
>>
>>139318707
In Fuuka's life
>>
>>139318802
Oh wait. Fortuna would have died with Fuuta but it's still their will being the deciding factor.
>>
>>139318689
Fuuta talking like he's still Houtarou is the parallel I remember. So yeah, saying the exact same line as Wind Fuuta is a good sign that they're the same.

>>139318698
I think aliens fits well the the "big multiverse" feel to the story. Other living things would have a stake in something as big as what Fortuna was doing, so naturally they'd interfere.

And if the Wind Fuuta/Okeya Fuuta parallel is right, then Fuuta's still ruling what is done. Just indirectly.
>>
>>139318698
Aliens giving Fuuta a key tool isn't really fate. But it does mean bigger things can be key to how your life turns out.

But that's been true for a while in this story. Plagues killing you, spirit circles killing you, black hole bombs killing you, Tokugawa killing you.
>>
>>139318698
I think that another them of his world (not so much his works) is that the universe balances itself, and that was the cosmic beings helping Fuuta make his own fate.
>>
>>139318583
Thanks for dumping, next chapter is one of my favorites!

Fone's life has simplicity and intensity. Stona's story adds a bit of extra depth to the setting.

Vann's life has a long comfy progression with his friends. The medicine woman adds a little twist to his fall.

Flors is not Vann with no friends, but Fortuna with no genius. Roca still gets screwed.

Houtarou is the short reconciliation life. Seems like it would have been a fun life if they lived longer. But it leads directly into Lafalle's life so yeah.
>>
Not my favorite part. It's feel stagnant? stale?
>>
>>139319484
Well they are working adults in an advanced society.

If the intrigue, history, and non-living problem don't grab you, that's all there is to them.
>>
>>139319542
It's the lack of tragedy that bores me.

Vann, Sphinx, and Houtaro has really delicious tragedy. Lafalle and Lapis' fight doesn't have enough intensity to it.
>>
You know, there's some backlashing on Fuuko's arc due to the obvious stuff, as in "not a big battle", apparently plain and it being short...

But the Fuji Roof scares me to death. The whole concept of her dimension being arguably affected by Lafalle dimension's black hole bomb in the form of a hole that is beyond explanations, it just IS, gives me shivers. It feels like nightmares when you become aware but can't wake yourself up.

The whole matter being unexplainable with both roof and the aliens but the immensely eerie, omnious atmosphere give it some hidden depth that makes me think of it as one of my favorites. I'd even say almost as high as Lafalle's.
>>
>>139319594
>the immensely eerie, omnious atmosphere
The chapter started with the narration that the Fuji Roof was so normal now that no one's even interested in it.
>>
>>139319583
>>139319484
Fug you guys. I was happy to see Fortuna and Koko reconcile as Lafalle and Lapis, only to have them end up fighting again. It brought a sense of satisfaction that finally after 2 lifetimes (since Roca) that they managed to stop killing themselves only to have everything tumble down due to Lafalle's lack of communication.

Its easy to relate with Lafalle's feelings of shouldering the burden, but its sad that he couldn't share the burden with his waifu and instead give his brother access to weapons. Even if the terrorists did managed to complete the black hole bomb at the very least LL could have a happy ending if only Lafalle talked to Lapis about his troubles.
>>
>>139319594
The Fuji Roof isn't the black hole bomb effect. I went back and it shows up when the aliens did--300 years ago. It's the alien ship.
>>
>>139319660
In some ways that can help with the eerie feeling, that there's something so strange but people don't pay attention to it any more.
>>
>>139319660

It's normal now to people living there. This is a known phenomena where we get used to things and consider them normal.

Are we, readers, living there? No. So it's not normal to us.

>>139319709

Fair enough. Took me a couple of new reads to catch. I was biased because it was just after Lafelle's.

Soz bruh the outro sting on 45 says it all. Unless they want to surprise us, that's the end, if I read it correctly.
There is mention that Mizukami will be discussing his preparations for a new manga in the next of a series of interview articles in Young King Ours that I've ignored up til now but will probably have to check out now in case there's juicy intel.

>>139320195
Every line I wrote in Vann's arc, I asked myself: What Would Final Fantasy Tactics Do? And then I usually did that. So yes I basically went for it because it sounded cool. I absolutely did agonize on the relation of the name to Fuuta's "wind" theme but after a bunch of unsuccessful googling resigned myself to just copying the sound.
>>

Don't worry anon. It probably hasn't even started in your next life yet.
>>
>>139320313
Embrace the end, so that the feeling can be reborn. Its what this arc is trying to tell
>>
>>139320341
I thought Vann was the wind name. Figured it was some european corruption of Ventus.

I did notice some of your lines were a bit off nuance-wise but I think you did a pretty bang up job with the past lives' dialogue style.
>>
>>139320341
Thank you for doing spirit circle. Its been an enjoyable ride.
>>
Part 6 tomorrow?
>>
>>139320403
If it matches up then I got lucky, I tried a half dozen spellings, looked at them on a page and picked the one that looked the least stupid.

The historical tone of Vann's dialog is largely a result of Vann's character setting the tone for his whole arc, especially his dedication to ceremony and the ideal of knighthood. Compare to Houtarou who isn't all that removed in a historical context but the dialog of him and his contemporaries is usually written a LOT differently.

Out of the half-dozen or so authors I've translated in my bootleg career, Mizukami dialog is by far the most nuanced and tricky but got damn is it good.

Literally takes one scroll to see its a dump. Again, what the hell are you on about?

Ctrl+f "edition", you're the only one using it. Literally.

Having a link to the last thread in a series dump? Oh no, its not like manga are continuous right?

Youtube links are just thread music

Advertisements and links to support and contact the author. Have you never ever supported the creator of your hobbies? Ever?

I think the biggest question is: Have you ever been in a dump thread your entire time here? Because literally up till the end, it was just an anon dumping and other people commenting and discussing.

Read the thread, literally.

What did he mean? Was he being influenced by Fortuna? But Fortuna himself said that it had no bearing on the birthrate, just that this period wasn't favored.

Was the reason why he didn't discuss anything with Lapis due to their differing beliefs?

Also, was he purposely missing Lapis with the gun until the very final moment?

>Lack of tragedy

I almost cry when robocat appeared in Fuuko's life, meaning Carol was alive.
>>
>>139334494
It was more of a thriller-style tragedy. When Flambe told Lafalle about black hole bombs, that was terrific tension, but the world suddenly ending right when it shouldn't wasn't as close to the heart as Flors dying alone.

I'm not that anon, I loved the Lafalle arc, though Vann's still my favorite.

Exactly. We're not in Lapis' head much, and we don't really see them as sleeping humans, just as corpses. We're with Lafalle thinking they're an abomination and probably the end of the human race. The tragedy from his point of view is Lapis turning against him.

The (main) characters weren't as good and the romance wasn't as satisfying. The final battle felt less imperative and exciting, but I supposed that's part of the whole deal.

But other than those aspects I agree, since the plot, writing, and worldbuilding were able to overcome those in excess.
>>
>>139339304
The climax wasn't the final battle, it was Fuuta's lecture to Fortuna. We went from a boy being thrust into a fantastic situation to its reversal, where he scorns the most fantastic of his past selves for lacking the balance and simplicity he now possesses; he always liked his life, but now he knows exactly why.

That's why the final battle wasn't much. Because there wasn't much left to fight about.

After the world ends so abruptly you end wondering what happened, and they connecting the dots with the hints in other lives was masterfully done.

Not yet, we need redrawers because I can't redraw action scene like this for shit. If we could get a redrawer then we might be able to release two chapters a week or so.

Sadly many of Mizukami's older works are still moon exlusive.
Piyopiyo has a random translated chapter since 2009 for some reason.

Those are more like small references or easter eggs. I think it would be more interesting if it turns out all of this was set up for his last work that somehow connects all the stories together in a way that makes sense.

Fuuta sort of already proposed to her. They'll fuck as soon as they meet after Fuuta gets into Toudai but Koko doesnt.

Though we wont see that until June where we assume the tankoban will have the epilogue.

Honestly, Rune and East will be lucky to be born by the time they reach 30.

I mean at the rate they've been going (adopted a kid together, held hands on a mountain, kissed) perhaps Spascifica realized it would take 5 more reincarnations to get to 3rd base and planned accordingly.

Did glasses like sharp-eyes after all? Because in Fuuta's world he seems surprised when she tells him who she likes (which wouldn't occur if he's literally seen it like 3 times), and when Kouko and Fuuta meet glasses and sharp-eyes on their date, they brush off Fuuta's accusation that they're dating, saying that they're "second cousins" and "practically siblings".

I mean it seems obvious but there are also some iffy parts.

Like Fuuta's reaction, it's kinda strange given his experience knowing them in the past.
>>
>>139351703
That's surprise to you? It's just a flat what and then "Flors was laughing at me" come on man, between that and her liking sharp eyes that's evidence for rather than against.
>>
>>139351703
Which chapter was this again? I remembered exactly this page but forgot where it was from?
>>
Next thread better not have this cancerous general shit in the OP
>>
>>139351780
Why would Fuuta be surprised if it was Rihama? Flors was laughing because he finally became friends with Umi in the context of the chapter.
>>
>>139351889
Again, that's surprise to you? Flors was laughing because once again she liked sharp eyed bro and not him. It goes both ways and if your only evidence is this "surprise" it's kind of reaching.
>>
>>139351949
>Flors was laughing because once again she liked sharp eyed bro and not him.
But he's not, he's laughing because Fuuta is friends with her. He obviously knew she liked Rihama because of the Houtarou's and Flors' lives. So again, why did he say "What?".
>>
>>139352028
Because it was a secret and he didn't expect it to. Besides it's not like every life people always hook up with the same people, other lives dont give you any specific insight into it. There's no real evidence either way, I think they got together and you think they didn't, but the both of us have nothing to show for it.
>>
>>139352145
