Yuma used ZEXAL so the Barians couldn't be bad guys, but at the same time made it so he and Astral weren't the good guys so they could still be friends instead of staying fused and becoming God. However, by writing themselves out of the roles of protagonists and antagonists, he reset the entire universe, which means that Yugi, Judai, and Yusei never became protagonists, which is why Yuya, Yuri, Yugo, and Yuto have inadvertently been put into the position of protagonists. In the show, even people who were involved in the Barian Invasion lost their memory about what happened. ZEXAL, despite having aired its first episode three years prior to the series' end, basically didn't happen.
Yusho disappeared three years ago, Reiji dimension-hopped about three years ago, and Roger arrived in Academia almost three years ago. What we're seeing is Academia invade Heartland while everyone was away, and Kaito has only come back for an unexplained reason (so far). Jack and Crow aren't friends because Yusei wasn't there to help forge a bond and Neo Domino wasn't hit with a Zero Reverse because the Signers would never become a thing, Edo and Asuka are working WITH The Light of Destruction (which arrived on Earth through Bloo-D) while Leo plots to fuse the dimensions using better resources based on Yubel's machinations, and Yuto and Kurosaki, who originally just went to a private duel school, ended up having to suffer because of Yuma's negligence.

It's not fanfiction. The universe has a way of calibrating itself, so it create new protagonists to take up the mantle; at the same time, it created a check, which is why Yuzu, Serena, Rin, and Ruri exist. People want to say Yuya is Yusho's son, but it's obvious that everyone one of them have no parents. They are manifestations of the universe to try and bring balance to Yuma's mistake.
This is why it's dangerous for Yuya, Yuri, Yugo, and Yuto to meet, because if they unite it helps facilitate a multi-dimensional collapse. HITOTSU NI is a dank meme, but they literally represent the core or "heart" of their respective dimensions, which is why Yuya is such a vital piece; Pendulum Summoning, which he created, can lead to other Extra Deck methods. Reiji realizes this, and realizes that the roles Yuya and Yuzu are meant to play in the future are dangerous, even tragic, which is why he works so hard to analyze everyone's duel disks to find better Summoning methods.
By analyzing Odd-Eyes Rebellion Dragon's make-up, he found one key needed to harmonize Standard with Xyz. Reiji's goal is to push Yuya to the limit to find everything "beyond the Pendulum" to make his own cards and prevent a catastrophe he can see on the horizon. Why else would he be proud when Yuya would turn down a free handout to MCS?

Not even gonna lie, that is one of my favorite decks to play with. I know their biggest weakness is their lack of speed, but cards like Supervise and Double Summon help out a lot. Plus all of the normal monster support adds a good amount of viability. Evocator Chevalier + Supervise is one of my favorite combos, especially with a high level normal beatstick in the graveyard.
Like you said though, a spell that automatically grants them their effects and special summon would be a godsend to the archetype. The deck is far from tournament playable but I always enjoy using it in casual games.

An alright guide, I just watched all of DM just last month.
It was pretty good, I enjoyed almost all of it, though VW was stupid, WTD was okay but the ending was way too long and KCGP was shit.

That would undermine his character development. In the beginning he only cared about strength, not caring if he sacrificed others. His Dart deck showed that, with him sacrificing his other monsters to improve the attack of the main one. Then, later on, he picked up Monarchs to show a lust for revenge, creating an entire deck to beat Pendulums with a Spell destroying effect., which also utilized a sacrificing way of bringing out stronger monsters.
As he fought Yuya for the second time, he had grown, still wanting payback for his loss, so his deck revolved around countering Pendulums, but also bringing out his true personality. His Daibak represents himself and his want of being front and center. He would blow away other, less important characters in favor of showing off huge, flashy power. Howeve, he showed how he still respects those smaller players showing how he resummoned them every turn and let them show what they could do.
His final deck, the apex of his character, is represented in Abyss Actors. His personality and desire is to be the Big Star, and is able to play many different roles and be very flexible (different spells he equips to Big Star). He knows though, that the most important part is entertaining the audience. Yugi's shit was always games in general. The deck that he used for most of the series was very RPG themed, but Yugi always liked the other types of toys and games.
Most of his deck was about taking the toys and games that he enjoyed and using them to grow and change. It's why the Silents were so prominent in his endgame deck (because they were Lv monsters), why the gadgets and magnet warriors were important (they put themselves together to make big stuff), and why Blockman and Marshmallon were choice plays in the deck (Blockman serves as a stepping stone and Marshmallon defends while attacking and also can be a stepping stone). Gandora's the only odd one out, but you can make an argument that it serves to create the "Clean Slate" that Yugi feels he'd be getting without Atem.

Yes. I just can't see how this movie can be disappointing. Kaiba digging up the puzzle to resurrect his dead rival is so fucking Kaiba that it sends shivers down my spine. Yugi isn't a fucking wimp and can look very fierce and intimidating in a duel. Animation is fucking gorgeous. Story looks promising and Kaz is writing it so no worries since the manga was always god tier. Then there's the Goyo's, Their very first monster was broken as hell when it came out and it's followed by tons of trash and a tacked on fusion monster.
I bet Heartland is going to be full of decent to broken xyz monsters. it seems ice themes monsters are not very popular in the anime although ygo card game ice barrier and nekroz for a while were sort of promising. Asuka had an ice theme deck in both anime and manga but didn't last too long, My guess is they threw that type on Rio because they had to link water because shark used sharks and they are water so fish types couldnt be repeated. And yes the supporting cast was too annoying to have, they brought nothing but to make it look like yuma is not a lone wolf, althought I prefer if Kotori was more than just a childhood friend with a suddent crush on Yuma thrown out there
