Kagami on his twitter yesterday said that there are a lot of settings hidden in that day (December 25th) uncluding the Apocalypse and he already revealed some foreshadowing but wonders if anyone realized it yet or not.
Personally, I think that Shinoa's birthday that day and the first meeting of Yuu and Mika were some of the settings. I hope the Guren LN reveals more because it's the prequel.

Her death was probably one of the greatest things about the show.
Not that I disliked her, but I thought that for sure she was going to be the childhood love interest through the show.

Yeah I kinda agree, would've been better if she made it out alongside yuu then died a few episodes further into the series instead, perhaps during the first meeting with vampire Mika.
We'd have a greater build up and she'd have some more room for character development.
I think it could've worked, Mika would still be able to go all out yuuhomo once she's dies and their hatred for vampires/humans would seem a bit more justified.

I haven't read the manga yet but I was thinking of a scenario where Akane dies, Mika belives it's the humans fault and Yuu believes it's the vampires fault.
In the anime, Mika's hatered for the humans didn't make much sense to me during the first season, it seemed to come out of nowhere once he was turned into a vampire, one of the reasons why I think many disliked him back then. I think it could've helped out a bit there.
Also having another, recent family death in the middle of the series could justify some of Yuu's edginess. And I think it would make a pretty memorable scene as well. Just my 2 cents.

Both of their behavior is perfectly justified at least in the manga because they were both abused as children and in Yu's case didn't really believe in the concept of family before meeting Mika, Mika essentially have him his first real family, of course he hates vampires for taking that away from him. And with Mika, Yu and the other kids were the family that he chose and he was their leader they were hours responsibility so of course he's depressed that they're dead, like Yu this was his first real family though unlike Yu he knows the full story and this hates both sides. Both have a case of survivor's guilt.
Though this is something that you'd know from the manga.

I genuinely liked it. I didn't know about the fujo following it had until after I had seen it, just try to ignore it.
It's comfortable to watch, has a decent story, some likable characters and it gets pretty dark towards the end. A lot of people will hate on the second season but you'll have to watch it for yourself, it introduces a new MC and has a anime original ending.
Overall it's actually less gay than owari, the only thing really is that the main character looks and sounds like a girl beside that nothing particularly straight nor homo ever happens
