Well they can't be Omegamon, Jesmon, Gankoomon, or Alphamon for obvious reasons, Magnamon, Ulforcevdramon, and Dukemon are too associated with V-Mon, VDramon, and Guilmon to use. From there LordKnightmon is a pretty rose-themed knight. So would end up with Gomamon being part of a Jogress to Dynasmon, Examon, Duftmon, Sleipmon, or Craniummon. Unless Gomamon is recessive, seems like only Sleipmon or Duftmon would be on theme.

I was trying to work out the idea in my head. Thought of a protagonist duo where one is a virus user and the other is partnered with a Royal Knight, keep the human cast small due to more partners and to allow more development. I was playing with the idea of 2 allowing for other characters with Royal Knight tamers to come into play, and allow for the one who controls Omnimon and/or Alphamon.
Would be a story where the virus user is an agent of Homeostasis and has to get the Royal Knights/Yggdrasil to work together with him to prepare for a new menace.

Everyone has improved but has issues:
Yamato has friends but as we saw how he interacts with his best friend, when anyone disagrees with him or doesn't think like mindedly he naturally returns to the idea that they are going to reject him so he tries to reject them first.
Takeru has hope because things have worked through struggle, but he also has a bit of a nihilistic view we can see in the movie since he put the effort into the show but didn't bat an eye that it failed almost like he was expecting something terrible was gonna happen.
Hikari has to be the light of the group even though she has had the absolute most shit happen to her, likely by now dealing with depression.
Koushiro can pull away from logic now but if things are going wrong he will pull away and devote himself to research/knowledge rather than connect with peoplepossibly from Mimi rejecting him.
Sora is the chosen of love, and has plenty to give. Too much, in fact and cannot prioritize her boyfriend(?) or her close childhood friend.
Mimi's mindset is simplistic to a fault, and though she can open her mind to see it eventually shes pigheaded to start.
Taichi has shown that he is not crumbling entirely, like he did in Adventure when aware of consequences, but now is clearly trying to find another way around it. Basically he is scared of consequences and instead of facing it directly his first instinct is to avoid it happening entirely.
Jou needs to be reliable for the team but he also is at a point in his life that if he fucks up his whole regular life is fucked forever since he is going to be a failure for at least a year before he can take university exams again. He needs to be reliable to two conflicting schedules.

There is a reason why at a few points they actually said maybe Jou should be the leader since everyone could put their faith in him and they know he would try his best. The problem for Jou is everyone can rely on him except himself, because he knows how big of a fuck up he can be.
Everyone can look past Jou's faults except Jou himself.

The problem was both plans were stupid and had glaring faults, he had the right idea to sleep on it and decide when the group was well rested. He then took it upon himself to go to the top of the mountain alone so the others wouldn't have to.

That is entirely wrong. Tamers is a great selfcontained story that at most should get a small where are they now OVA maybe touching on them in highschool for a little closure to the fans, maybe giving a little hope the Digimon are doing okay or maybe someday they could come back.
Tamers is great how it is, so unless they somehow come up with a GOOD idea for a sequel that adds a story that needs to be told then I don't want anything else from Tamers.

He didn't, that never happened. He found an opening yes but it was essentially an unstable rift in space time that they literally had to wall off with cement to keep Takato from making it worse and endangering countless lives.
They do not know how that tear could work and even if it was stable enough to transport through like the previous one the Digimon live in a world where time functions differently. The partner Digimon could very well all be past their lifecycle and are dead of old age. Tamers ends on a high but somber note, especially with the audio drama, leave it how it is. People like you are why we get needless sequels that just shit on things that didn't need sequels.
