You know, on the whole, I’m liking UBW as an adaptation. It’s not perfect, but seems to be hitting the important spots just fine. So, having fun watching it and all that.
But I’m getting fun out of something else as well: reviews. No, I’m not looking for reviews to be butthurt at; that’s stupid. I’m genuinely enjoying this. I always have well-meaning fun listening to people making theories about things I’ve already read and it’s interesting when they manage to guess right; the parts they get wrong I just let pass… but then, sometimes you just find that dude. The one that doesn’t “get things wrong”, but gets EVERYTHING wrong. The one that manages to pinpoint every single important narrative pivot and make the precisely opposite-of-correct assumptions about them. Those are the most entertaining, especially if you catch them doing it live, since you can see them growing more and more irritated as the story goes in the opposite direction than the one they want. I don’t even engage them, I just watch.
Like this guy, whoever it is. I drew up a mental bingo card of stupid, and s/he’s hit every single square. Whining about Rin actually being a soft-hearted fuckup instead of a cold and methodical genius? Check. Palpable hatred of Shirou? Check. Helpless longing for things to be more like Zero? Hoho, check.
I mean look at this! Especially the last paragraphs. He thinks Kuzuki is important and actually has goals! And that Gilgamesh is going to have play a dignified, sophisticated part in the story! I don’t know what I’m looking forward the most: the rest of the show, or seeing this guy’s breakdown when the awful reality comes crashing down on him. It’s like watching a cat get himself all swollen with pride and determination to catch a laser pointer: there is nothing but sad, hopeless fumbling and smashing head-first into furniture ahead, but the poor thing is just SO sure of himself, you just gotta watch.
Ok, it's clear nobody cares, but I can't stop reading this shit. Look at it! He gets SO CLOSE to the point and then swerves the fuck away.
It's amazing.

You can't afford to shoot a ship unless you want to lose everything inside.
It's much more effective and realistic to come equipped with grappling arms so that you can immobilize the ship and take out it's ability to escape while you board it.
Space pirates need grappling hooks too.
