alot of early guns, all the way up to the 20th century did little to no damage against full suit of armour.
it was just exponentially cheaper to make and use and armour was clumsy and took alot of money/time to make

I think it really fell off on this board once people realized it was a Ikuhara show and they ended up not enjoying it for the same reasons a lot of people are put off from Utena.
