Unfortunately I've only seen it dubbed (back when it came out when I was a huge little brat) so I can't say anything about the tone or story per say but the animation and art is top notch, Ghibli did a good job there.

Sure I got Yu Yu Hakusho vibes from it and everyone says it's great. But tell a survivor of monthly Gantz waits, and a Berserk follower that was at the week the boat set sail, why any sane person with my experience should go through HIATUS HELL!!
2011 downsides were the overused few soundtracks and the Kaito flashback postponed for no reason.
I also liked the look of nen better in 1999 but that's a personal preference.
Other than that 2011 is better in basically everything and has no fillers.
One scene I really prefer in 1999 is the Ging's tape one.

Did anybody even enjoy this show?
It was okay, but the pacing was weird and it felt like there were massive leaps of logic going on that really didn't make any sense.

I'll admit that its suffering from alot of asspulls, but i think some of the "power ups" were both fun and exciting to see. For example monster chopper and mirage tempo.

The only thing great about this was the last episode of S1. The rest was pure utter politics logic garbage with shit humor.
Eh, the opening was also pretty catchy but I agree.
I love LH, but I agree the humor was the worst part. But what was so great about the final episode of S1? It went way too fast.
Season 2 level of quality killed it. But the man is out of jail, and maybe we'll get some good stories.
