How the fuck could this movie be doing so well after getting trashed so hard by critics? Do people just love eating shit THAT much?

And you can't say that it's doing well just because it's capeshit when the new Fantastic Four movie was a complete flop. Or is it just doing well simply because it's a Batman and Superman movie?

Surprising how much better it's doing abroad. Do non-americans appreciate kino?
>>
>>68155954

Known heroes are a lot harder to do, though.

Marvel Studios less successful movie was The incredible Hulk. Why? He was known by the public thanks to the TV show so audiences were a lot more picky.

The Amazing Spider-Man 1 and 2 under-performed because they were reboots. People were still too attached to the Sam Raimi's movies.

People still think of Christopher Reeve and Richard Donner's movies when they think of Superman and Christopher Nolan's Batman is still fresh on people's minds.

That's also why the Wonder Woman movie will be a edgy retelling of the first seasons of her TV show.

fucking torn, saw it once and was too busy thinking "i don't get what any of the fuss is about" to actually go for the ride. since then i've posted a bunch and have been trying to make sense of what posts have made pasta and which haven't. i'm pretty sure i'm the guy who's pointed out the 'choreographed' aspects of the movie and character interaction, although that made me imagine how much more choreographed it could have been. also, i've brought up how i'm a minimalist in regards to cuts in a movie, and figured why not judge the movie by that barometer since there were plenty of times i thought they could have given a lot more information more simply in one take or otherwise made decisive use of cuts instead of going back and forth between faces and so on.
the choreographed aspect actually made me think of the camera itself, and how it would have been pretty fucking neato if the camera work in the movie also had a musical structure to it in the movie as well, some g o r g e o u s shots that i felt they didn't do enough with ie the modern fear of silence and stillness has also made me feel more conflicted in retrospect.
overall, i think there was some kind of attempt to... i don't know how to put it.... enter the mind of the viewer with the use of the surrealistic and fantastical elements, which is where i find my fondness of it. i've gone from saying the movie is balls out to thinking that the strokes could have been much more precise.
i can't rate it and have honestly been drifting away from rating things in general anyway, even in my personal life i describe how things feel and the value of that rather than giving ratings, sorry anon. high fucking highs for me personally that also left me wanting for more, in the sense that i think there's the possibility for really imaginative/creative stuff that i think is hidden as the diamond in the rough out there somewhere in this direction. 1/2 i think
>>
It pulled almost all of its business in its first week, before the reviews could sink in.

Audiences have a delayed reaction to things. They don't know something is bad until they've already paid money for it, but they sure as hell won't get burned again. You won't see the effects of BvS being shit until the next big DC movie comes out and gets great reviews and zero dollars at the box office.
>>
>>68157184

i really really really hope they get other directors involved that already have established relationships with warner, guys who have also entered surreal or fantastical territory from different angles.
i'd also like the famously weird comic book writer grant morrison, but am apprehensive since he sometimes seems unable to see outside of himself in a weird way, he tends to insert himself way too much for my taste. i do think they got a chance at sort of riding the edge of the current cultural imagination. i'm not an expert in anything so this is just my one cent

tl;dr get more people involved at the top, make the movies with the least accessibility possible
>>
>>68155853
Are you dumb? The movie is called Batman vs Superman. Are you actually confused as to why it's making money hand over fist?
>>
>>68155853

Having the biggest super heroes of Batman and Superman at the same time, fighting each other, I don't think anyone can resist seeing. Not even me...

I felt they could have completely removed Lex, and Superwoman to improve the film and put more Batman and Superman shit in there so they could actually have a plot as to why the hell Batman wanted to kill Superman in the first place other than "hurr durr, supaman too strong and hes an alien".

Batman killing scores of people made no sense, so I think that also pissed off the critics.

The whole film felt like a background setup for 100 squeals of the Justice League, rather than an actual film.
>>
>>68157345
when i talked about choreography, i should have been more specific as i meant the framing of relevant characters and information relative to each other in frame, fuck, i should have just said cinematography.

in regards to that fight, i'm into it, but i'd have to look back and see the extent to which guys would stand around and wait for batman to come to them.
aside from that, any moment where batman is taking more than two people at once was cool, although i wished they took more of an unstoppable, flowing approach to his fighting style where he never slows down. make him look more like some sort of demon that consumes people

this is all based on having seen it two weeks ago though, i'm not totally confident in what i'm saying

The amount of money we can assume from foreign markets is around 20 to 30 % at most.

~200-300 mil
+domestic (which you can extrapolate from 50 to 70%)

cost of the movie was around $400 including marketing, iirc

not a very good profit:cost ratio, the studios hate that

/co/ is infuriatingly oblivious in their ignorance, which makes their arrogance somewhat enjoyable sometimes.
/tv/ at least has somewhat of an ironic detached selfawareness

the critics are paid by marvel
>>
>>68155853
critics are fucking gay and often wrong. BvS is the most comic book comic movie yet. i doubt critics read comics or give a shit about the medium so they wont like anything thats not a quip filled marvel meme flick.

a lot of them also seem to have this strange idea that comics are supposed to be lighthearted and campy which is probably because they grew up with the comic code neutering anything too non 5 years old. they complain about the darker tone but what makes them think its inherently wrong?
>>
What's up with marvel cucks being unable to do simple math?
For some reason they keep pushing that "HURRRR IT DID NOT EVEN BROKE EVEN" or "HUUUUUR THE MOVIE FLOPPED".
The movie's budget was around 250m and then there's marketing, another 150m.
They already doubled that 400m investiment, is it too hard for marvelcucks to understand?

>he bought into the critic meme

I mean I was disappointed by this movie too but most critics are so full of shit and removed from reality. They know how to construct a decent sentence though so a lot of pseudo-patricians look up to them, but their content is usually degenerate.

>>68155853
Implying Rotten Tomatoes isn't a massive fucking joke.
>>
>>68155853
Because it made a huge amount of money on opening weekend because of the fervent expectations of comic fans and average movie goers before word spread of how truly terrible it really was. It dipped into the sub 10 millions domestic daily in it's first week and may likely dip in to the sub millions in the upcoming week. This movie tanked fast.

Why didn't Superman and Lois just give the spear to Wonder Woman?

You know, the only member of the Trinity that was any good at fighting Doomsday? The one who, besides the superhuman strength, toughness, and agility, was pointedly not affected by Kryptonite at all?
>>
>>68168974
The number of plot holes in this movie is staggering. Like it just blows me away.
>>
>>68168974

Why would Superman do that, though? Just because he died?

I wouldn't let a woman i don't know clean up my mess.
>>
>>68169339

What plot-holes?
>>
>>68159486
Lois didn't know about the kryptonite. Had no reason to throw the spear into the water.

Luthor really had no leverage to force Superman to fight batman. There was nothing preventing Superman from saving his mom well within the time allotted.

They're all shit. Are you people just realizing this now?
>>
>>68155853
>How the fuck could this movie be doing so well after getting trashed so hard by critics? Do people just love eating shit THAT much?

The Hobbit Trilogy made 3 billion dollars. BvS wasn't a good movie and word of mouth wasn't good but if you have a big name it doesn't matter whats critics think. These movies don't flop
>>
>>68169499

>Lois didn't know about the kryptonite. Had no reason to throw the spear into the water.

You mean that thing that was hurting and drawing blood from her boyfriend's indestructible face?

>Luthor really had no leverage to force Superman to fight batman. There was nothing preventing Superman from saving his mom well within the time allotted.

Superman didn't knew where his mom was. The film establish that Superman must know where to look for to focus his super-senses. Even if he knew he might not be fast enough to save her from being burned. He wasn't fast enough to save CIA.
>>
>>68168974
Who would restrain doomsday with the miracle whip then, and give batman the chance to hit him with the canister
>>
>>68169574
>The film establish that Superman must know where to look for to focus his super-sense
It established that Superman basically knew Lois was in danger and her exact location whenever. If he has some kind of GPS sense on Lois, why wouldn't he on his mom?
>>
>>68168974
At the time they recovered it Wonder Woman was restraining Doomsday with her lasso.

So Supes could impale him with the spear.

Did you watch the movie?

Cmon senpai pls try harder to bait next time
>>
>>68169672

Lois was a reporter constantly covering dangerous shit and his mom was a nice old lady working back in Kansas for SEARS,

I thought that the movie tried to portray Lois as a weakness for Superman as first. Lex figured out his identity through her, she served as bait to complicate him further, he constantly saved when he could be saving others, she wondered if he could be him as a hero while still dating her, because of her he didn't paid attention to his mother and so on.

This of course till the very end when Superman tells her that the reason he find strength to keep going despite all the shit is because of her. Since she was his world than he would do anything to protect the world. She's his connection to humanity.

I found that a neat little arc, but i might be wrong and reading too much into things.

Why didn't Superman just throw the spear?
>>
>>68169874
He was struggling to hold onto it as is.

His aim would've probably been shit
>>
>>68169874

It wouldn't kill Doomsday. Superman had to pierce him and then keep digging further to be able to kill the thing.
>>
>>68169795

>Bait harder

He flies to Gotham and loops around back to Metropolis. Giving Superman forty minutes to do anything is retarded. He got from India to Metropolis in 3 minutes
>>
>>68169874

Because he would have been to weak to throw it hard enough to pierce the skin. Doomsday could smack it away or pull it out

Ther Frodo image isn't to expose plotholes is it? It's just to ask stupid questions

Okay, but there was literally no reason he couldn't have given it to Wonder Woman.

It's not as if at that point they had to kill him right at that second. They had some time to coordinate some kind of plan. At the very least take into account the fact that Wonder Woman is able to keep him at bay.
>>
>>68170053
>Okay, but there was literally no reason he couldn't have given it to Wonder Woman.

Kryptonite has already made him too weak to hold the lasso and keep Doomsday contained.
>>
>>68170098
Like I said, there was time for them to coordinate. There was no reason for Superman to assume at that point his only choice was to kamikaze.
>>
>>68170053
>It's not as if at that point they had to kill him right at that second

Um, no. Speed was everything. Doomsday was getting stronger and stronger with each passing minute emitting blasts that could take out city blocks . This isn't Avengers where the shit army was conveniently not going to attack while they formulate a plan
>>
>>68170137

>There was time for them to coordinate

No there wasn't
>>
>>68170164
As far as they knew, yes, there was.

You've got this chick who is doing better against Doomsday than Superman was, and Superman (or Batman, greatest detective in the world my ass) didn't think to take advantage of it?
