>How common are giants in your setting?
Extinct. They invaded the world of Fairy in ages long past, so the winter court took their war host to destroy them. The survivors were captured instead by Summer, who twisted them into the fomorians.
>Are giants anything more than Large-and-Bigger humanoids?
Not really, no. The tallest people on the planet are, on average, humans. Anything that's taller is a monster of some kind.
>How smart are giants? Are they idiot-brutes swinging clubs? Genius level intellects crafting the finest oversized armor and weapons imaginable? Beyond human comprehension, bordering on Cosmic Horror intelligence?
They used to be a great civilization, on par with early 1800s Europe before they were utterly annihilated.
>Can you have Half-Giants? If so are there any genetic problems caused by their unusual birth? Are they mules?
Far as people can tell, no record of half-giants existed. Some speculate that whatever remains of the species became the dwarves, but this is unconfirmed.
>How big can giants get?
Most sources put them at around 14, 15 feet tall, but since even their skeletons are long gone, who knows.
>Does the square-cube law exist in your setting?
Yes it does.
>If it does, how do giants get as big as they are without dying?
They don't. They're dead.
>>

>How common are giants in your setting?
Very uncommon. Only exist on one of the continents hidden in big forests, because everyone hates them.

>Are giants anything more than Large-and-Bigger humanoids? Are they a representative of something (sloth, nature, cannibalism, etc)?
Big humanoids that are dumb and cruel. Basically standard giants.

>How smart are giants? Are they idiot-brutes swinging clubs? Genius level intellects crafting the finest oversized armor and weapons imaginable? Beyond human comprehension, bordering on Cosmic Horror intelligence?
Just dumber than most humans, although a smart giant is smarter than a really dumb human. You can generally outsmart them if they haven't yet captured you.

>Can you have Half-Giants? If so are there any genetic problems caused by their unusual birth? Are they mules?
No, the species are incompatible.

>How big can giants get?

>Does the square-cube law exist in your setting? If it does, how do giants get as big as they are without dying?
It doesn't, since I can't figure out a decent reason off the top of my head.
>>
>How common are giants in your setting?

Not that common, actually! I'd say they constitute about a fertile duchy's worth of people, with two fertile duchies worth of half-giants.

>Are giants anything more than Large-and-Bigger humanoids? Are they a representative of something (sloth, nature, cannibalism, etc)?

They're humans, embiggened by the genetic manipulation of an overly ambitious dragon looking to create a source of cheap, plentiful labor and soldiery. He's dead now, but the Giants are still around.

>How smart are giants? Are they idiot-brutes swinging clubs? Genius level intellects crafting the finest oversized armor and weapons imaginable? Beyond human comprehension, bordering on Cosmic Horror intelligence?

They're literally human-level intelligence, considering they were once human. They're prone to the same feelings and behaviors as humans too, which is part of why they're so goddamn unpredictable. They've got Napoleonic-equivalent technology, but that was due to some handy dandy reverse-engineering of tech they found in the Duke's Archives.

>Can you have Half-Giants? If so are there any genetic problems caused by their unusual birth? Are they mules?

Of course there are half-giants! They're far more virile than their giant brethren, and constitute the bulk of the population in nation they rule.

Dante Must Die:
>How big can giants get?

>Does the square-cube law exist in your setting? If it does, how do giants get as big as they are without dying?

Of course not! Why would I ever want to gimp myself like that?

>GIANTS GIANTS GIANTS
Haven't touched the idea yet. Probably not a major thing in the setting, but maybe they crop up occasionally.
They wouldn't just larger humans or such, since the setting is not a human-centric one.

Maybe something earth given a I would probably go with portrayal as rare, solitary, unknowable forces of nature - not dumb, but not too intelligent either. Slow, but thorough thinkers. But directed by alien motives. Most of their lives just buried under soil and/or, sometimes urged to wake up.
Although, I suppose it would be more apt to a Scandinavian troll.

>How common are giants in your setting?
They're distressingly common, even after they sundered the earth to post-apocalyptic ruin. They're the monsters lurking outside every settlement, and they appear and disappear seemingly at random.

>Are giants anything more than Large-and-Bigger humanoids? Are they a representative of something (sloth, nature, cannibalism, etc)?
They are pretty damn different. A giant, or rather, a golem, in this setting is a collection of these mysterious things called Threads. Like their name indicates, they're basically these glowing white filaments which act as the muscles and nerves of the golem. When they manifest themselves (and this appears to be a random thing), they instinctively gather surrounding materials to themselves, forming into a vaguely animalistic shape. This results in creatures with the faces of buildings, fists made of cobblestones, and jaws of rebar. They being the products of an apocalyptic war in the distant past, they are very much symbolic of the destructive nature of man, and of the end result of clashing wills.

>How smart are giants? Are they idiot-brutes swinging clubs? Genius level intellects crafting the finest oversized armor and weapons imaginable? Beyond human comprehension, bordering on Cosmic Horror intelligence?
At their base level, golems possess an intelligence roughly on par with most predators, and are ruled by purely destructive instincts. They seek to consume and grow, and to destroy anything they come across, lashing out at the world and its remaining people. They will even cannibalize other golems, integrating their prey's Threads into their own. The more Threads a golem has, the bigger and more dangerous it gets. Larger golems seem to possess greater intelligence, and certainly are better engineers, forming much sturdier bodies out of the materials they consume. Some form skeletons of steel for their Threads to manipulate, and armor their "muscles" with concrete skin.

>Can you have Half-Giants? If so are there any genetic problems caused by their unusual birth? Are they mules?
Nope. Any human being caught in the sights of a golem is quickly subjected to several tons of violent rage. The golems don't even appear to have any genes to mix.

>How big can giants get?
Depends on how many Threads are working in concert. They can be as big as a large horse or elephant, or can grow as titanic as your average Super Robot. Threads are also capable of manipulating machinery if they infest its inner workings, and there are some stories of old-world engines still moving across the barren plains under their influence.

>Does the square-cube law exist in your setting? If it does, how do giants get as big as they are without dying?
The whole idea of the Threads is that they break the laws of physics, being somehow capable of contracting or expanding along a fixed axis with tremendous force. They're like muscle fibers, if muscles exerted a gravitational field. They also seem capable of contracting down to microscopic levels, effectively making their mass disappear and reappear. In short, they murder the square-cube law and then rape its corpse before eating it.

>>How common are giants in your setting?
Not all that uncommon, since any humanoid above 10 feet in height is considered a "giant".
>>Are giants anything more than Large-and-Bigger humanoids? Are they a representative of something (sloth, nature, cannibalism, etc)?
They're stunted descendants of titans, the latter of whom are extinct because of an Illithid eldritch abomination that nearly wiped out the world thousands of years ago.
>>How smart are giants? Are they idiot-brutes swinging clubs? Genius level intellects crafting the finest oversized armor and weapons imaginable? Beyond human comprehension, bordering on Cosmic Horror intelligence?
No, but many of the giant subspecies are as intelligent as humans at most. Some are heavily-muscled brutes, but the tallest of them tend to be slimmer and wiry.
>>Can you have Half-Giants? If so are there any genetic problems caused by their unusual birth? Are they mules?
It's possible. Some giant subspecies are actually descended from human and titan unions. I'd rather not expand on that as it's magical realm.

>How common are giants in your setting?
Very. An entire third of the Fair Folk belong to a race named 'Gren' which is the setting's resident giant species, alongside Minotaur which maintain their own separate kingdom.

>Are giants anything more than Large-and-Bigger humanoids? Are they a representative of something (sloth, nature, cannibalism, etc)?
The Gren are direct descendants of the world's nature spirits and still maintain very strong connections with the natural magic of the world. This makes them capable farmers, as they attract the spirits that which promote the growth of beneficial plants. A settlement with a surplus of Gren inhabitants is bound to be quilted in green all year round.

>How smart are giants? Are they idiot-brutes swinging clubs? Genius level intellects crafting the finest oversized armor and weapons imaginable? Beyond human comprehension, bordering on Cosmic Horror intelligence?
Gren are as naturally intelligent as any of the Fair Folk, though their markedly longer lifespans would make their 'average' level of intelligence somewhat higher, just thanks to added life experience. They're capable of understanding just about anything at a human-level intelligence, though magic of any kind other than nature magic eludes them simply due to their origins.

>Can you have Half-Giants? If so are there any genetic problems caused by their unusual birth? Are they mules?
The nature of the Fair Folk means that all three of the subsets may interbreed, but you don't really get a 'half-Gren' (or half-anything, really). You'll get a whole child of one parent's species with some characteristics from the other parent. Say you have a Hyppen (small, colorful fawn-like creatures with crystal head crests) and a Gren couple. You might get a Hyppen child with leaves replacing their fur in several places and wooden antlers, or you might get a Gren child with quartz formations on their body instead of flowers. Besides a little bit of physical awkwardness, these children are completely healthy.

>How big can giants get?
Gren grow to anywhere between seven and ten feet tall at the peak of their shoulders. They dwarf just about any other advanced species in the setting besides dragons and wyverns.

>Does the square-cube law exist in your setting? If it does, how do giants get as big as they are without dying?
Physics in my setting have been thrown straight out the window. The world is flat (with a definite edge that you can visit), entire continents rise out of the void at random with wholly formed societies already on them, the sun and moon exist at points of infinity, etc.

It's been a very interesting thought exercise.

Alwaran giants are uncommon as they require cool places to live and are a little sedentary.

>>Are giants anything more than Large-and-Bigger humanoids? Are they a representative of something (sloth, nature, cannibalism, etc)?

Nope. They're there as a setting tool for race balance and as a playable race for a game.

>>How smart are giants? Are they idiot-brutes swinging clubs? Genius level intellects crafting the finest oversized armor and weapons imaginable? Beyond human comprehension, bordering on Cosmic Horror intelligence?

Normal humanoid potential if a bit lazy about it.

>>Can you have Half-Giants? If so are there any genetic problems caused by their unusual birth? Are they mules?

Yes. No issues for the most part except for the bigger they are the cooler the climate they need. Alwara is my umbrella term for beastman race so all subspecies interbreeding make viable offspring. Its also a mechanic for creating new sub-races by a mutation or certain phenotype/genotype stabilizing similar to 40k abhumans.

I would really like to use 12' to 15' giants but run into sustainability issues so 10' to 12' is my norm with exceptional sizes up to 15'.

About dragons for now I'm going with 35' to 40' long flyers and 40' to 60' land dragons.

>>Does the square-cube law exist in your setting? If it does, how do giants get as big as they are without dying?

My humanoid giants should still be in the realm of functionality. The problem is with the dragons though. For them I'm using every trick I can think of like reinforced bones(not sure by what, maybe by a spider silk like thing) and more efficient muscles. It's a bit easier to mod the dragons since they're from a different evolutionary branch than the Alwaran giants. Dragons also have innate "magic" abilities which flyers use for flight and land dragons use for strength. Both use magic to ignite their breath weapon.

>How common are giants in your setting?
Extremely, extremely uncommon. Only one is still alive, but hasn't been seen in over two thousand years.

>Are giants anything more than Large-and-Bigger humanoids? Are they a representative of something (sloth, nature, cannibalism, etc)?
Yes, they were much more. They were a powerful race of proud warriors, but they worshipped a god who's influence has all but vanished from the world. They lived on the savannah shores of Lake Ram-Nibo, and are said to have built the Lake-City of Narb, its steepled pyramids having been their ancestral tombs before being made into quarters of the city itself as they are now. The issue of their stature is disputed, as none of their remains have been found (Mur-Po Uewë ordered the Narb temple bones scuttled to the bottom of the lake), but they are described in the texts as being large, and light of complexion, bearing no genetic relation to the human race.

>How smart are giants? Are they idiot-brutes swinging clubs? Genius level intellects crafting the finest oversized armor and weapons imaginable? Beyond human comprehension, bordering on Cosmic Horror intelligence?
I would like to say the latter, though not Cosmic Horror-tier. They obviously were more in tune with the secret corners of the world than are the humans who live now. Some say it is because Éll, a giant who is purported to have achieved apotheosis, led them himself. He was, however, slain (at least physically) in the Battle of Gül Alam.

>Can you have Half-Giants? If so are there any genetic problems caused by their unusual birth? Are they mules?
None who live now know, and no such records exist without the timbre of myth.

>>Does your setting have resurrection? Can the dead be returned to a living state, whether fully alive or as walking/talking corpses?

Nope, at this time dead is dead. Necro-like magics are essentially just animating corpses or body-parts similar to other constructs.

>>If so, how does your setting's afterlife compensate for resurrection existing?

There are several religions that have different teachings but there is no actual setting guideline at this time. I'd like to leave that open so a story or game campaign can make their own addition of gods or an afterlife later on.
>>
>>46538332
>Does your setting have resurrection? Can the dead be returned to a living state, whether fully alive or as walking/talking corpses?
Naturally there is no mechanism which allows the dead to return to life, though a higher power has recently injected an agent who has the ability to pull individuals from the afterlife wholesale. Pulling from the afterlife essentially shoves them into a carbon copy of their old body.

>If so, how does your setting's afterlife compensate for resurrection existing?
Since resurrection isn't supposed to happen at all, it's horribly traumatic. The recently returned are often driven violently mad by the experience, though that suits the antagonist just fine.
>>
>>46538332
>Does your setting have resurrection? Can the dead be returned to a living state, whether fully alive or as walking/talking corpses?

no, but things like plague-infested dragon blood or blessed embalming skills can turn you undead, meaning you just never truly keel over. both of those have only happened one time respectively though:

the court of Queen Grimhyldis fell victim to the dragon blood, because they were using regular, non-infected blood as a way to augment their strength in battle. when they hunted down and captured the last dragon in the realm, it was locked deep down in the castle dungeons. unfortunately, it soon caught a normally fatal plague that caused its blood to become toxic. most of the Queen's knights died shortly after consuming it. the Queen and her dragon still remain, hundreds of years after.

a good two thousand years prior, in a faraway land, Sun King Amen'Aton was allegedly so gifted in the healing arts that he managed to embalm and preserve himself... which was apparently so gruesome a sight his viziers locked him in his own tomb, destroyed all entrances and sold his kingdom to the enemy.
>>

>Does your setting have resurrection?

Yes!

>Can the dead be returned to a living state, whether fully alive or as walking/talking corpses?

Yes and no.

>If so, how does your setting's afterlife compensate for resurrection existing?

Afterlife? All people who return from the dead can remember is that it felt either very, very good or very, very bad. There might not be an Afterlife.

And I realized it's pointless to actually extrapolate points with you chuckleheads because nobody ever comments or critiques things here anyway.
>>
>>46538332
>Resurrection
Practically non-existent. There have been feat or two, but thay's in span of four thousand years. It is just unfeasible since after death the soul returns to source and gets dissolved.

Necromancy is a thing, but it doesn't involve soul.

There isn't one, despite insistence of many religions.

Questions:
>How common are giants in your setting?
Giants are semi common race. They mainly reside in the mountains in their own mountain kingdoms with their own kings.

>Are giants anything more than Large-and-Bigger humanoids? Are they a representative of something (sloth, nature, cannibalism, etc)?
How giants in the setting look are mixture of skyrim giants and just quite big men. Giants were created to be "gardeners of mountains" quite early in the worlds history. Then after several millenia they somewhat forgot their task of caretaking the mountains and just became content of being there and building their stone cities.

>How smart are giants? Are they idiot-brutes swinging clubs? Genius level intellects crafting the finest oversized armor and weapons imaginable? Beyond human comprehension, bordering on Cosmic Horror intelligence?
They are nearly smart as humans, but there is quite lot of difference in intelligence between giants. Usually giant kings and priests are smarter than normal giants. Normal giant intelligence hovers around 70-90 IQ. Biggest problem for them is the fact that they have so big sausage fingers so accurate work is hard for them.

Rather uncommon; however, a few settlements to the far east claim to be descendants from cosmic giants(the Jilmar).

>Are giants anything more than Large-and-Bigger humanoids? Are they a representative of something (sloth, nature, cannibalism, etc)?
All giants are descendants of the Jilmar, cosmic entities that forged the cosmos. Most are noble, and representative of their almost timeless nature; while others have fallen in a sense.

>How smart are giants? Are they idiot-brutes swinging clubs? Genius level intellects crafting the finest oversized armor and weapons imaginable? Beyond human comprehension, bordering on Cosmic Horror intelligence?
Most giants are reclusive, and live their long lives in solitude. In this setting, the few giants there are in the world are rumored to have been part of it since the beginning of time itself.

Tactics of Aerial Combat 1: The Wing of Battle

At the inception of aerial warfare, the various nations of the Former Aquilonese Empire spent plenty of time working out the best designs and armaments for their skyships. They found that, with the incredible recoil forces of artillery pieces, a cannon-based armament would be impractical for worry of toppling a skyship over entirely. In addition, with the difficulty of eyeballing firing solutions(no radar or other sophisticated damage equipment,) sheer saturation would be required to hit a given target. The solution, then, was rocket pods. Skyships have an array of rocket pods mounted in their broadsides; while rockets are less accurate and shorter ranged than cannon shots, they launch an incredible number of projectiles at the same time, making hits more likely.

Once the state of the art had stratified around broadside-armed ships, tactics were called into question. Early on, tactics were actually based on naval tactics from the age of sail, specifically the Line of Battle, given galleons' similarities to skyships. These tactics only persisted for a few years before new tactics were developed. The one-dimensional Line of Battle was replaced with the three-dimensional Wing of Battle; an arrangement of two or more wedge-shaped formations of skyships, stacked on top of each other. The wedge shape allows a force's most powerful components to be placed at the fore, where they're best equipped to soak enemy fire while lighter units attempt to spread the sides of the wedge around and envelop the enemy's wedge. Adding additional layers gives the formation more depth, making it more difficult for enemy ships to penetrate the ship by going over or below it.

(This is just me dumping my ideas on dieselpunk zeppelin combat. Feel free to comment; I can always use more insight.)

Criticize my shitty history for my shitty setting. It's still half done, so keep that in mind.

Brief history of Fjall.

Northern Settlements.

Descending from giants, the races of northern Fjall (elves, dwarfs, humans) lived in a relative peace amongst each other. Dwarfs settled the mountain sides and produced most of the metal and jewelry of the lands, elves provided to food from the Snowappel and Snowberry trees when hunting didn't cut it anymore and humans worked as the couriers and merchants between the people. Life was more or less peaceful as none of the southern kingdoms wanted anything from this up north.

Fire Expanse.

One day the Grand Hierarchs, leaders of the elves, became insane and decreed for their forest home to be burned with the eternal fire of the arch-devil Magmar. With the large forests that used to cover the Far North on fire, the snow melted and flooded the southern parts of Far North. The food provided by elves was no longer and the more sane elves, along with humans and dwarfs, escaped to the south across the mountains in hopes of finding a new home.

Race for the Golden Fields

Scouts brought reports of a paradise in the frozen north, dubbed Golden Fields for their color. It was lush and the weather was nigh perfect for around the year farming and herding of animals. But there was only room for so many people, so the Race for the Golden Fields began. The dwarfs were mightily underhanded as their beasts of burden had been consumed for food. As such, the race was between men and elves. Eventually elves did win this race and settled the first city on Fjall, Goldawn.'

cont.
>>
>>46546314
The Golden Wars

This didn't stand well with humans and dwarfs. The elves once again were seemingly in charge of the only

source of food for the races and they've already proven to be fickle and prone to extreme violence and

devil worshiping. So an alliance was formed between man and dwarf to drive out the elves from Goldawn and

to capture the city for themselves. Man and dwarf assaulted the elves relentlessly, until victory was

achieved and elves were sent packing to the forest of Evergreens.¨
Dwarver Inquisition

When Goldawn was occupied, a new dwarf/human kingdom was to be erected to honor this alliance and to

ensure an eternal frienship. But humans didn't expect dwarven politics to be so cutthroat as they were. It

didn't take long until only dwarfs were ruling the GOldawn and quickly this turned into racial superiority

"wars". The dwarfs secretly gathered any poor humans and cordially enslaved them to "give them purpose".

Next they started to tax men higher, followed by the court of law favoring dwarfs in any case. This

culminated in humans becoming second class citizens officially with dwarfs oppressing the men as they

wanted. This did not stand with the soldier caste of dwarfs who had fought alongside man, so a rebellion

was to come.

cont.
>>
>>46546332
Alliance Civil War

Most of the soldier caste allied with the oppressed and proud former warrior tribe members. A rebellion

was staged and dwarf politicians were deposed. But the seeds were already sown for more tragedy.
The Hounding of Dwarfs.

With the new leadership consisting of mostly men, they too fell into the mindset of racial superiority.
"Dwarfs are close relatives of elves" they thought. "As we saw, they too are prone to madness and horrible

acts" they said. "They also worship devils" they lied. So began the official Hounding of dwarfs. They were

murdered, unjustly prosecuted and oppressed across the land much akin to what the dwarfs themselves had

done. Again, the soldier caste, this time that of men, turned against the oppressors and deposing the

tyrants. But the damage was already done: the few dwarfs that managed to escape from the north were now

even fewer, near to the point of being extinct.

Isolation

The remaining few thousand dwarfs settled the Clear Snow Steppes and isolated themselves from most humans,

fearing a new hounding. Elves had settled the forest of Evergreens and refused to have anything to do with

either humans or dwarfs. Man was now alone in the Golden Fields, devoid of allies and afraid of

foreigners. They no longer traded with each other, leaving all of them that much weaker and less prepared

for what was to come.

cont.
>>
>>46546345
Khan from the South.

Stampeding like a herd of rapid cows, the orcish hordes of the south came atop their war machines and

mounts. Goldawn was conquered in a few days by the mighty Khan Mo'ghul Raj, the Conqueror from South. Men

was on the run, seeking refuge from their former allies. But none was to be found from the xenophobic to

the xenophobic. Men were scattered into the wilds, where the orchis hordes rounded them into villages to

use as labor force and meatshields in the battles against elves and dwarfs, who too were subjegated within

a few months.

And that's it for now.

Extinct; once existed in the Time of Stone, but their kind was anniahlated in a war with mankind

>Are giants anything more than Large-and-Bigger humanoids? Are they a representative of something (sloth, nature, cannibalism, etc)?
Cultures that have vague stories of them, treat their existence no more then a metaphor for the ferosiry of nature, and mankinds triumph against the early world.

>How smart are giants? Are they idiot-brutes swinging clubs? Genius level intellects crafting the finest oversized armor and weapons imaginable? Beyond human comprehension, bordering on Cosmic Horror intelligence?
It was hard to say, but it can be thought that giants did possess a level of intelligence advance enough to create a great stronghold in the mountains.

>Can you have Half-Giants? If so are there any genetic problems caused by their unusual birth? Are they mules
Nope. I've been playing with the idea but it's just novelty

>How big can giants get?
As tall as mountains; early humans would ride beside sleeping giants, believing the giant to be a mountain. Some stories tell of some humans who lived on the back of sleeping giants for generations.

>Does the square-cube law exist in your setting? If it does, how do giants get as big as they are without dying?
The law does exist. Giants were of direct divine creation, their existence sustained by the God of Order's blessings on them. They were essentially great stone creatures, and nothing more then stone itself.

Dicks lost the original post so I made longer
>Does your setting have resurrection? Can the dead be returned to a living state, whether fully alive or as walking/talking corpses?
Yes, my Uncreative and milquetoast setting does have resurrection. Basically every living being has life energy (same stuff used in magic) inside of them that matches with the person. In resurrection skillful necromancer catches the matching life energy and stuffs it back into the body. This is usually seen as bad thing as dead people should stay dead and due to bad reputation of necromancers. There is few "good guys" who can perform resurrections, but they are far and few.

Problems of resurrection is that the body of the poor sod still has the wounds received earlier. This means that just resurrected person is in risk of dying again if there is no medical help. This leads resurrections being team work, one or more magis doing the resurrection and one or more healing the just resurrected person as dead people don't react to healing magic. This is not a problem with traditional necromancy as raising dead does not require matching life energy or making sure that the body is still intact (it is bonus of course to patch the body into one piece before raising it). Raising dead also requires less life energy to raise so it is easier to raise them. Comparing these two skills is like raising dead is flying a cessna, requires a lot of training, but you can do it and resurrection is like flying Eurofighter Typhoon, bloody hard to do.

Raised dead do bring another problem to the necromancer. That is how many of them he can control. If necromancer dies or loses control of the raised dead they just turn into their instincts. Usually the number of raised dead is low due to the concentration and willpower required in it. But it is known for necromancers to band together for mutual protection.

Does anybody have any criticisms or questions?
>>
>>46538332
>>Does your setting have resurrection? Can the dead be returned to a living state, whether fully alive or as walking/talking corpses?

Traditional resurrection? Absolutely not.

Death does affect newborns in certain parts of the world in strange ways. Ashbearers, who are basically reincarnated saints, are said to be born (and this has considerable evidence behind it) in aftermath of massive battles or genocides. Ashbearers also have some traditional 'undead' aspects, notably being able to cut off their own body parts and put them back on.

There are many who believe in reincarnation, but being resurrected as the same person is unheard of, and in most places, seeing as insane babbling at best and heretical at worst. It's associated with 'undercraft', along with poisons and particularly violent murders.

I did a little doodle to accompany my response- very messy, plz no bully. I've been in a bit of a drawing slump.

>How common are giants in your setting?
I'm going to say 'pretty' common.

>Are giants anything more than Large-and-Bigger humanoids? Are they a representative of something (sloth, nature, cannibalism, etc)?
There are two sorts of "Giants"; there are TRUE Giants which are Ogres, Ettin, Cyclopes and Trolls whom naturally grow large and then there are 'false' Giants which are simply Humans and Centaurs (and to a lesser extent Dwarves) that have simply grown very large.

>How smart are giants? Are they idiot-brutes swinging clubs? Genius level intellects crafting the finest oversized armor and weapons imaginable? Beyond human comprehension, bordering on Cosmic Horror intelligence?
Trolls are the stupidest; possessing intelligence that walks the line between animal and man.
Tall Humans/Centaurs/Dwarves are perfectly intelligent.
Ogres are "dumb", but possess a folky intellect.
Ettin and Cyclopes are both freakishly intelligent, but exceedingly rare, misunderstood and rarely have outlets for their intelligence.

>Can you have Half-Giants? If so are there any genetic problems caused by their unusual birth? Are they mules?
Orcs and Ogres may cross-breed to produce infertile half-orcs/half-ogres; they're big fuckers.
"High" Humans are a distinct ethnicity of human who consistently produce 10ft tall humans- this trait can be passed down to other humans or centaurs.

>How big can giants get?
Trolls will grow their entire lives until they can no longer hide and the sun burns them to cinders, they run out of food or they grow so massive their bodies crush themselves. They have a soft cap of 20ft and a hard cap of 30ft.

>Does the square-cube law exist in your setting? If it does, how do giants get as big as they are without dying?
Yes, but the setting is so horribly over-saturated in -magic- that nature "found a way", etc.

Hey /wbg/
I have a question for you
Is there mechanical augmentation in your setting? Fantasy or other wise?
My setting is Light Diesel Punk - Heavy Fantasy
Mechanical limbs are similar to that of Full Metal Alchemist or Forgotten Realms (Elves had the ability to make Mechanical parts in that setting. I read it some some obscure rule book or something) but with more magic.
Getting one require a magic stone implanted into ones body to power it
The limbs can have weapons and tools installed into them, but doing so requires a stronger magic stone, and a stronger magic stone can be both costly and might even kill a user if they are not of strong will.
The ruling Emperor has a mechanical arm that he lost in battle. He flaunts it as a sign of pride. For he lived, and the man that took it died.
It is possible to have ones entire body replaced with an artificial body. More or less a suit of armor with organ stuffed into it. Doing this has... repercussions. If they survive the process, and are able to find a doctor that will perform the operation.

Let me try to give this some context, then.

This world I'm currently building isn't just for funsies, but for a comprehensive online roleplay site. I could go into the details of the world and the site, but I won't, because if I wanted, I'd just post my PDF guidebook that is about 150+ pages long. But picking it up is an instruction manual on how to create this world, and what the world entails. Which I probably shouldn't release online.

Anyway, I'll be spending about 3 grand to 5 grand, depending on certain factors, on the artwork itself in order to make this world come to life and attract roleplays. That's rather doable with my budget, especially when these art purchases are spread out across over two, almost three years worth of time.

The goal, besides sharing my love of roleplay, is that right around the time of my college graduation, it'll be up and running, an excellent way to establish myself as someone with creative competency. I get to put it on my resume, run it while I try and find a real job in the field, and hopefully begin to establish credibility to my name.

The issue, however, is that I hadn't looked into the price of website development yet, since it is so far off and I didn't know where to look. When I got some direction on where to look, however, I realized that I can't afford doubling the current cost for this site.

So, I either have to find someone who is willing to be paid extremely below the normal amount for the website's development, postpone the release of the site another two years, or give up on the project.

I'm going to summarize some bits of my setting, then get into numbers about how rare things are. Could someone look at the numbers and tell me if it strains your credibility?

Setting is mostly medieval Europe with more independent towns and less area involved in feudal hierarchies. People live in towns of about 50, and about a half day's walk to the next town.

Spirits are naturally-occurring creatures that look like humans or animals, but always slightly off. Spirits always represent some part of the natural world, and the things that happen to them are mirrored in the world around them. Different regions have different spirits, and something that's deeply involved with spirits in one part of the world might be controlled by physics in another. For example, if you imprison the (human-like) spirit of summer, the seasons might never change in that region. A forest might be full of squirrel-like spirits that sharpen all the thorns and brambles, and if you kill enough of them it will become a less pointy place to live.

About half of people deal with spirits at some point in their lives. This could range anywhere from having a troublesome spirit trying to live in your house, to nearly getting eaten by a predatory spirit, to helping a seasonal spirit on its yearly journey.

About one in ten people go on some sort of quest at some point in their lives. The most common causes of this are getting entangled in the affairs of spirits, or asking a wizard for help with something and being assigned a bizarre errand. Of the people who go on quests, about half go on a second quest, and half of those go on a third one.

About one in a hundred people go on a lot of quests, where that becomes their normal life. These people are called adventurers, and you can usually tell them by looking. They grow a tendency to show up to places that need help, and people aren't shy about asking.
>>
>>46555224
>Mechanical augmentation
There's a decent amount. It's less technical than magical, though.
You can get replacement limbs enchanted with the same spell that powers a Golem, giving you mental control over it.
There's also a race of Terminator-like Constructs that can contain a reincarnated soul, so becoming a "robot" is an option.
>>
>>46556850

Town would probably be much larger than just 50. I'm just googling here but 50 couldn't have enough breeding population and so on.

http://www.dartfordarchive.org.uk/medieval/people.shtml if this is accurate usual town was 500-600.

http://www222.pair.com/sjohn/blueroom/demog.htm - suggests 20-1000 people for villages, 1k to 8 for towns. Think that is too high.

https://books.google.com/books?id=4toKjuTLOQUC&pg=PA35&dq=average+medieval+town+population&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiVoeuW7YDMAhXKPz4KHUf6DPIQ6AEIHTAA#v=onepage&q=average%20medieval%20town%20population&f=false suggests a guess of 3,000 average for smaller medieval towns.

I'd take Gloucester to be a larger town, so I would say village - up to 100 people. Probably less. Town - up to a thousand people. Large town - a few thousand. City - 7k-9k or above.

iirc to have a stable breeding population you need at least 1k people. Smaller villages with a short distance between them would probably arrange marriages between them.

I'd still like to be on the low end for aesthetic reasons, and keeping it a little low also helps with my assertion that there's less feudal structure here than in Europe itself. I'll change my ballpark to 50-200, and make sure to say village instead of town.

Thanks for pointing that out.

Resurrection magic exists, but after 1 year it becomes impossible since the soul has now gone on to Reincarnate. You can still recall someone's "Shade" or memory as a ghost though. It isn't really them, just their memory on auto-pilot. They cannot change/grow as a person any longer and cannot permanently gain a new body except by possession, which makes them both Evil, and easy to cast out given the right prayer.

I did another world building doodle!
This one is a little bit more committed: Showing off and answering the question of "Where does food come from?" within the setting.

The majority of the food distributed and produced within the setting is produced by Orcs with the Changelings and Minotaurs picking up any slack. Dwarves produce a LOT of food, sure, but it's often kept underground and can be quite.. "unusual".

-Others- However represent the exotic and foreign crops grown within the interior of the super continent (almost exclusively by humans/centaurs) and the even FURTHER exotic crops/produce produced by the Cyclopes communities living on the rare and often unexplored islands surrounding the continent.

If you've somehow managed to procure yourself a Tuna you would do well to sell the thing for the novelty: The GRAND Ocean surrounding the world is a horrible, churning, mess of storms with equally horrific and unrelenting monsters.

>How common are giants in your setting?
(Humanoid) giants only show up in myths, fairy tales and stories of distant lands.

>Are giants anything more than Large-and-Bigger humanoids? Are they a representative of something (sloth, nature, cannibalism, etc)?
Depends on the source of the story containing them.

>How smart are giants? Are they idiot-brutes swinging clubs? Genius level intellects crafting the finest oversized armor and weapons imaginable? Beyond human comprehension, bordering on Cosmic Horror intelligence?

Once again this depends on the story in question.
However many different peoples throughout the eastern continent share surprisingly similar myths about a gargantuan cyclop traveller that in ages past provided their people with the knowledge needed to create civilisation. Tetrarchial canon holds it as proof that the Gods once walked the earth. Even to this day the Cyclop's Eye is a common motif in many cultures.
>>
>>46528079
>How common are giants in your setting?
Basicly exstinct, as the aftermath of their rebellion against the gods left them mostly unable to reproduce.

When the mortal races waged war with the gods, the gods threw curses at each race with their dying breath. They tore apart the Ancients, their guardian automatons. From their parts came three new kin.

The head would be elves, cursed to truly understand the gifts they had forsaken. A lifetime of youth and without sorrow, yet see themselves wither away within an instant.
Their hearts became men, cursed to long for the greatness lost, to never be fullfilled until their death.
Their bodies became orcs, cursed with the weakness of flesh, to be as animals without mind, yet conscoius of their actions.

The giants, first of their servants and shepards of the lesser beings, were cursed with solitude. They could no longer bear children and the companionship they so enjoyed was now anathema to them.

And the deer people that stayed neutral in the conflict were cursed with blindness, because the gods are dicks.

>Are giants anything more than Large-and-Bigger humanoids?
They were the first mortal race, the inventors of all those weird artifacts and behind all those ruins you explore. They're mostly inspired by the Lords of Dark Souls. They're rather "great" than "large" or "big".

Cont.

As a people, about the same as humans. The individuals that still remain are mostly sage types, due to the nature of their existence.

>Can you have Half-Giants? If so are there any genetic problems caused by their unusual birth? Are they mules?

No half-giants. Reproduction in general is nearly impossible because it requires a lot of ressources to weaken their curse.

>How big can giants get?
Around 2,30-2,50m.

>Does the square-cube law exist in your setting? If it does, how do giants get as big as they are without dying?
It does. Fighter type characters in my setting use their natural magic to strengthen their bodies, and giants basicly do the same.
So how big they get depends on how much magic an individual has and puts into growing. But being good at magic does not automatically make a giant grow.

So who are the Not!Norsemen of your setting?
>>
>>46568740

The Kingdom of Gevalia, they are a cultured people heavily interested in the matters of metallurgy and warfare.

They used to be wild screaming barbarians from a frigid expanse, but times change, and now they're organized shouting soldiers from a frigid expanse trying to rise as a relevant continental power.

They also have the most half-elves of any nation on the continent, due to their proximity to the Elven tribes of the far north. For this reason Gevalians are seen as exceptionally beautiful, and their earnest embrace of Chalesian and Staat customs have made them suprisingly cultured.

Their leader is a Not!Gustavus Adolphus, a moon elf that went AWOL and decided life on the planet is worth saving. It's largely due to his teachings and guidance that the region went from quaint backwater to regional power, and now their aims are higher.

Presumably, the Creator is currently focused elsewhere in the Astral Void; in the process of making more worlds.

>Who is the most eligible bachelor in the setting? Bachelorette?

bachelor? Eweka the Conqueror, Ahigbeni crown-prince and, as his title suggests, conqueror of most of Ida. his wife would have control over the future King's household and his princes, a position of unrivaled influence over global politics. it also helps that he's actually legit handsome and quick-witted despite his family's reputation for inbreeding.

bachelorette? probably either one of the League's merchant-princesses (because they are fucking loaded) or Admiral Ira One-Eye, for the prestige that marrying into the house of an accomplished military tactician, priest and national hero who also controls a large fortune brings. her husband would be able to attend the Grand Dance of Rain's End, one of the greatest opportunities there is to mingle with the elites of the navy and the Treasurers' guild. too bad she prefers raising her sister's children and having an affair with a foreign diplomat

On left side of Northern Barrier / The Glacier, there's a remote region which is mostly inhabited by Caowe and humans. The Caowe Ironhide house and their traditions ( berserking, cannibalism ) still live, although recently they have come to accept modern firearms. basically, the Ahigbeni Empire (a militaristic theocracy ruled by a god-king, based on medieval Benin and other West African kingdoms) has grown so large that it needs to acquire huge tracts of land to provide for its soldiers, since they get a plot of land after their service. luckily for them, naval outposts of the Valis (Iroquois/Tlingit based naval raiders & whale hunters who squatted in an abandoned city for so long it became theirs) bring word that the High King of Ida (the "I can't believe it's not Europe!" continent, that's the blue landmass in pic related) has died without naming an heir, sparking a series of wars among the various smaller kingdoms and duchies of Ida. the Ahigbeni see their chance and send in a small army to test the waters. within mere months, the duchy of Thule, previously known for the military prowess of its Eisenmänner knights, is thoroughly defeated and forced to swear fealty to the Sun King of the Ahigbeni, which prompts him to use it as its base of operations to further expand his empire into Ida. over the course of not even 50 years, the Ahigbeni conquer most of Eastern Ida unchallenged, exploiting rivalries between the kingdoms and offering alliances to weaker dukes (or in one case, orchestrating a civil war to arrive at the castle gates as harbingers of peace). Eweka the Conqueror earned his title during the last 5 years of the Great Conquest, for laying siege to the High King's city Ullheim (now Eroro, City of Bells) and forcing its defenders to surrender after just 3 weeks.

the Heart of Darkness story follows a former Ahigbeni slave trader who's along for the ride on a journey into the heart of Tomania to investigate the whereabouts of Admiral Itula Blindside and her crew, who hasn't been responding to any letters or couriers for months. truth is, she has locked herself in a sawmill at the riverside and grown paranoid of anyone who isn't a native servant. it's not very fleshed out yet

>How common are giants in your setting?
Extinct, wiped out by the onset of man.
>Are giants anything more than Large-and-Bigger humanoids? Are they a representative of something (sloth, nature, cannibalism, etc)?
No one is really sure what giants were, by the time the story takes place giants are little more than legend and are just depicted as big humanoid things.
>How smart are giants? Are they idiot-brutes swinging clubs? Genius level intellects crafting the finest oversized armor and weapons imaginable? Beyond human comprehension, bordering on Cosmic Horror intelligence?
Intelligent enough to craft crude tools, have culture, and make clothing. Hunter-gatherers that could not out-compete humans.
>Can you have Half-Giants? If so are there any genetic problems caused by their unusual birth? Are they mules?
No half giants, I can't imagine anything fitting right when it comes to sex.
>How big can giants get?
No one remembers anymore, the stories change, sometimes they are only 10 feet tall, other times they are big enough to smash temples and level villages.
>Does the square-cube law exist in your setting? If it does, how do giants get as big as they are without dying?
The giants weren't impossibly big, so they were able to survive until people came around and took all their food or wiped them out systematically.

Eligible? The Prince who ran off because he was terrified of ruling his kingdom after the King fucked off too. It runs in the family. His brother isn't as eligible since he's a bit of drunkard and womanizer and is notorious for having a lot of bastards. >How common are giants in your setting?
Common. Humanoid society is not as prevalent as in other settings, so many other species haven't been wiped out. Giants live in virtually every mountain range, with many having spread into non-mountainous areas (where they are more vulnerable). Some live on the continental shelf underwater, or in large lakes. They can sometimes be found in the lands of the humanoids, trading, acting as mercenaries, or for some other purpose. Many giants have humanoid vassals or slaves.

>Are giants anything more than Large-and-Bigger humanoids? Are they a representative of something?
They're not just large-sized humanoids, they are incredibly strong even for their size. They are more closely tied to nature than humans, often being a part of the elements (I use 3.5 D&D giants, with some customizations).

>How smart are giants?
Ogres are dumber than orcs, the rest are at least human intelligence. The smartest average about 16 Int, but have low populations. With their long lifespans, they often know many trades/arts/studies each, in addition to being hunters and warriors.

>Can you have Half-Giants?
Possibly, through magic, but it's rare enough to be unique.

>How big can giants get?
Huge if on land, gargantuan in the water. Maybe a few unique exceptions, due to some magical force.

>Does the square-cube law exist in your setting? If it does, how do giants get as big as they are without dying?
If you shrunk a giant down to the size of a human, he'd be much more muscular and healthier than a human, with thicker bones, stronger organ tissues, etc. The average giant would have at least 18 str at human size. Many would have much more. They have especially massive caloric needs because of this, however.
>>

>>What are elves like in your setting?
Elves an alchemic artificial race created by humans from Goblin slaves. The Elves ended up overthrowing the humans and taking a portion of their empire for themselves when a great catastrophe shattered their empire.
>>Are there drow, and if so, are they evil? Are they enemies of traditional elves or more like estranged kin or something else entirely?
They are not Drow, but they are more or less evil. Being practically immortal and having no real guiding beliefs, Elves are all out for themselves. This leads to a lot of politicing, back-stabbing, and under-handed moves.

>>46582802
>>How common are dragons in your setting?
There are 3 known dragons in the setting.
>>How do common folk regard them? As monsters? As gods? As forces of nature?
Most see them are monsters and forces of nature, but there are tribes of humans that worship them as gods.
>>Do they have any servant races, and if so did they create them themselves?
There are dragon cults that worship them and "do their bidding", but the dragons mostly just slumber and feed off of the leylines they rest on. They don't really show any form of consciousness higher than an animal's.

Traditional Native American-types. Their beliefs and culture revolve entirely around the natural world, with a large number of Druids.
>Are there drow, and if so, are they evil? Are they enemies of traditional elves or more like estranged kin or something else entirely?
My "dark elves" aren't evil, just much more tribal and savage. They're stuck on the "evil" continent, so they don't seem as bad by comparison.
They do have pet spiders, which produce enough webbing to spin silk. Unlike their lighter-skinned cousins, Dark Elves don't go around wearing animal pelts.
>>46582802
>How common are dragons in your setting?
There are only 3 proper dragons in the setting, and one of them is dead. These dragons were among the world's first creations, and held remarkable powder during the first age.
Lesser Dragons are more common, and exist in a large variety. They're typically apex predators within their ecosystems.
>How do common folk regard them? As monsters? As gods? As forces of nature?
Common folk only know of two of the Dragons, the aspects of Good and Evil. Neither of them are worshipped, though one of the "Evil" Dragon's sons is. The children of the "Good" Dragon rule the northernmost nation on the main continent.
>Do they have any servant races, and if so did they create them themselves?
Dragonkin and Kobolds have evolved to be dragon-like, though they're simply Lizardfolk.
The only races the Dragons have created are Chimera and Humans, though magical experimentation with existing creatures. Humans were a slave race until they discovered Arcane magic, which tipped the balance greatly in their favor.

What are the gods and creation myths in your settings like /tg/?
>>
>>46585676

Three nascent concepts of deities/faiths thus far.

"The Serpent" - the primordial serpent by his act of self-sacrifice created the universe. Throughout the ages, great holy men would repeat this self-sacrifice to do 'something'. Invigorate the divine essence throughout creation, strengthen the bonds of man's link with the spiritual world, ect. This might be the immolation or starvation of an enlightened guru at the end of his days, a heroic forlorn hope of a champion against some terrible foe or heretical army, maybe a nurturing mother and queen of a great tribe dying in childbirth to a child who would become the greatest king they had ever known.

The basic inspiration is a mixture of Christ's martyrdom, Buddhism, and the Aztec/Mayan sacrifice and sanctity of blood. They would not practice inter-human sacrifice but would in varying measures practice ritualistic suicide among the elites - not out of the blue but for instance an elderly king choosing to kill himself before a disease or old age did so, a highly shamed general doing so, a noblewoman whose husband died, ect.

It is supposed to be the religious 'enemy' of the next faith, as both are the only proselytizing pseudo-monotheistic religions
>>
>Want to make a setting similar to the modern world
>Simultaneously want to show some of the amusing oddities of globalization for comedy while also avoiding serious globalization in-setting because the aesthetics of state ownership, factory employment in the first world, etc. + "made in [your country]" are more appealing than "it's all done in china and we just have a service sector+financial economy."

Should I just patch over the inconsistencies as I go (Oh, but the WTO is super powerful and makes making things in china a pain!) or am I going to have to rethink this seriously?
>>
>>46586253

"The Sun" - There is but one true god, all others whose followers recognize this fact being reflections and manifestations of his spirit. He created the universe as a parent would a child, and in doing so provided man with the gift of free will. His free will allowed for the emergence of evil - the unconquered sun could easily smite this blight from creation but doing so would rob his children of their independence and merely make them extensions of himself. Instead, he has imbued his children with the strength, discipline and wisdom to defeat the evil lie. The cosmic battle of good and evil exists in miniature within every soul, and each man has the choice to make whether to serve on behalf of good or evil. The ultimate victory of the unconquered sun is inevitable - man's sinfulness or sinlessness simply dictates how bitterly evil will hold out.

The inspiration is Zoroastrianism with elements of Judaism/Christianity/Islam. I completely forget which of the two, the Serpent or the Sun, would be the more corporeal-minded (Like Islam/Judaism/Zoroastrianism) and consider the physical world an extension of the spiritual, and which would be more Christian or Gnostic with the physical world an imperfection at best and a filthy broken existence vis-a-vis the pure spiritual. I'd think The Sun lends itself to the latter while the Serpent does to the former.
>>

Orcs fall into a bloodrush when they get hurt, so this situation can escalate quickly. So many nobles would try to de-escalate the situation be it via diplomacy or sleep potions thrown around.

Then there are of course some arseholes who just send their soldierts in and half the town destroyed.

>>46585676
Most common myth is that the four primordial aspects just appeared out of the chaos. The aspect of life created, well, life and then went on to shag her son. Lots of incest later, all the kids are jealous because mommy only ever talks to her children. So they get dad to kill her and create the two worlds from her corpse. The kids get one, and start fucking again.
Now the first grandpa ever, the Firstborn kills the aspect of magic to make souls for the newborn. That pissed of the aspect's husband, his oldest son. He went berserk and started killing his nieces and nephews, so uncle Death told him to stand in the corner. He also set his insides on fire.
Meanwhile, the aspect of time fucks of to somewhere to study the chaos, from which a new asprect spawns who then promtply beats Death to death. Just not quite death-death, because well, he's death.

So without the grown-ups around, all the little gods start arguing and go to war over and over again. Generally, the older ones kick ass, so the young gods band together to overthrow them. But it's only a matter of time until there's infighting, and all the new gods that keep getting born get powerhungry, so everything is a huge mess.

At some point some fuckwit manages to loose the heart of the aspect of life, which means all children born after die of old age. That made it easier for the remaining gods to keep everything in order, but they're dicks so after some time we get >>46562913.

Oh, and at some point eldritch horror dragons almost devour the world, but that's another story.
>>
>>46586437
>all the kids are jealous because mommy only ever talks to her children
Meant to say: "Only ever talks to her siblings".
>>
>>46586351

"The Word" - By thought God was brought into being, and by word God created the universe. This divine language, the logos, forms every thread in the tapestry of existence. Man cannot hope to ever attain a fluency with the tongue of heaven but it is possible to discover perhaps a syllable, a letter, a word of the logos. And just a letter might nourish a man's soul a thousandtimes over. Unlike the serpent and the sun, the word's adherents does not (mostly) proselytize nor possess nations of their own. They are a minority faith, highly esoteric and centered on monastic communes who dwell among foreign faiths.

The inspiration is the sacredness attributed to the Sanskrit language by the Vedic Aryans. How complex and delicate ritualistic prayers were with if one action or one word was out of place or misspoken the entire prayer (perhaps days or weeks or months long I believe) was null and void at best. There's also the idea of how much power we can imbue words - calling someone a heretic or infidel in centuries past, calling someone a nigger in public today or a faggot in some other cultures and you are liable to have your livelihood or life threatened. I'm aiming for a low fantasy world but it's possible that the logos (via chanting, meditative prayer, throat-singing, ect.) will be the only form of magic, and a largely indirect one - a'la Gandalf. Perhaps there'd be room for the stereotypical 'black magic' and just being incredibly taboo.

The problem there is if The Word has its followers doing wicked sick miracles and The Serpent and The Sun do not, well that'd be a problem. And then there'll be lots of polytheistic faiths.

>bless a number of heroes who died in the war against the bahana with immortality, creating the Saints
>the gods leave and never come back

>Ahigbeni
>the World was created when the Sun first set upon the Wasteland
>humans fell from the stars and were "adopted" by the Sun
>their leader married the Sun's daughter and became a god himself, with a divine right to rule Everything The Sun Touches
>being adopted by the Sun granted humans their souls, so they no longer truly die when their body stops functioning
>instead, your soul only ceases to exist if you are completely and utterly forgotten
>ancestor spirits ("ihen") remain at their dying place and are able to influence the luck of their descendants (and people who claim to be), growing in power the more people pray to them and pay their respects

both have in common that they reference an actual historical event, the exodus of humans from Earth, the terra-forming of the new planet by an automatic failsafe program and the Savior type androids shutting down & self-destructing after a stable population had been achieved. the bahana part is just the Valis being dicks to foreigners though.

>>What are elves like in your setting?

Just another subspecies of beastman, no more magical than orcs or humans. They are the first beastman subspecies to spread to the northern continent and are still numerous to this day. They live to about 150yrs and have an annual reproduction cycle.

>>Are there drow, and if so, are they evil? Are they enemies of traditional elves or more like estranged kin or something else entirely?

Drow/Dark Elves are the original beastman subspecies to make the northern migration. Over time minor genetic deviations built up to stabilize into Wood/Normal Elves and High Elves. They have the normal propensity for evil as any other beastman but they currently have the most peaceful civilization.

Most Wood and High Elves migrated east away from the Drow and as such have little left culturally with them. The Wood elves maintained relatively good relations with them until their kingdoms fell to Gedask. Now, most normal elves in human territory don't even remember their drow ancestors. The high elves remember the drow but now think of them as lesser creatures not blessed by their goddess and unworthy of association.

>>How common are dragons in your setting?

Uncommon in the current continent. They used to be pretty common in the northern half but elves, orcs and humans have continuously been fighting with them for territory that they are now rare in the central empire of Gedask. They have a few strongholds to the west but most of them are east in Sha'hara.

>>How do common folk regard them? As monsters? As gods? As forces of nature?

The Xuande dark elves of the west treat them as formidable neighbors and some as autonomous regions. Commoners of Gedask see them as dangerous monsters and pass on tales of slavery and gore under their tyranny. Gedask nobles scramble to control as many as they can to greatly bolster their private armies. They are so common in Sha'hara that you will see a merchant or home maker arguing with one for goods damaged or laundry soiled by its careless passing.

>>Do they have any servant races, and if so did they create them themselves?

They used to be the dominant power in the northern half and enslaved the elves, orcs and humans that migrated into their territory until they were overwhelmed.

The west still has some dragon ruled territories right beside, or surrounded by, Xuande territories.

In Gedask they are valued weapons. Some dragons have allied themselves with noble families in return for safety and sanctuary.

Dragons in Sha'hara are treated as normal subjects and citizens. No rogue dragons are allowed in Sha'hara though, those are quickly hunted down and killed.
