Let's talk about superhero cyoas. Which powerset would you have if you could copy an established fictional superhero's exact powerset right now, within reason so omnipotent squirrel shits? Which powerset would you absolutely not want to see in a superhero cyoa because it triggers your autism, example being mind control?
>>

I don't have an answer on-hand, but my top priority for a personal power (a power I'd possess, instead of a power I'd like to give to a character) is immortality. Not dying comes before anything. Sorry if that's boring!

A bit of both, but more decreased. Civilized Magic is now +5 instead of +10. Balanced magic now has the option to be unlimited, if you have enough enemy races. The effects of Magic of the Enemy are slightly less penalizing for the bad guys in one form. Changed numbers are all in blue, as a note.

But you can still be killed by anything but old age.
>>
>>48328401
I'd probably pick Dr. Strange myself but I'm sure that's not an "optimal" choice.

I wouldn't want to see anything with immortality (as in, unaging), unless it was something that everyone got. It just outweighs too many other things.
>>
>>48328773
That's a semantic point this thread likes to stress. That "immortality" means "not dying of old age." It doesn't necessarily mean that. It means "not being mortal." In the context I used it, I intended to convey "being categorically unable to die." If you happen to know a better way to describe that power, I would appreciate the information.

Mysticism GOAT. Mind control and divination in one package? Sign me the fuck up. Sure, they're probably weak versions, but it only takes a little bit to make the differences you need.

Not sure I want any of these places, might be nicer to stay home and not be obviously magical. I'll take Blackbark I guess, since I don't need to study there all the time to get the benefit and it would be a nice place to have a vacation.

>>48328223
Philosopher's stone will be useful for fiscal reasons and I will probably find some other nice use for it.

Tome of Extra knowledge for summoning. Servant imps are more useful to me than big demons anyway.

Hunger and thirst powers of the vitus ring are cool, but I won't give up my ability to feel pain for it. Goggles have a good power but I ain't about to wear that shit on my face all day. Gauntlet is easily replaced by a tool box. The others are cool but not as good as the ones I picked.

I'll stay independent from factions.
>>

>>
>>48328996
Man, I just looked that one up. That would actually be terrible. He can die, he just "gets better", and is always enraged afterward or messed up due to the pain of dying.

And the implication is that he'll literally be around forever. So, just floating around in the complete entropy of heat death at some point.

Forever.

Yeah, I'll pass, at least on that particular version.

>>48328966
I can't actually find anyone named Bloodpool. Distinct from Deadpool, I take it? Google, why do you fail me.

And Thanos apparently get trapped in a pocked dimension for eternity? That's not the fault of his immortality, I suppose.

Hmm... clever combo. Yeah, I'll allow it. Things you visualize within your one mile radius of Map Maker will count as "having been there" for purposes of teleporting. Granted, this still means that you'll have to stop and focus between each, but it should still be pretty quick.

>Craft: Summoning
I have always loved the idea of being a summoner, from tiny fairies to do my dishes to huge balrogs to cleave my enemies asunder.

>Study Area: Crystal Caves
I was tempted to pick the Infernal Alter to improve myself but in the long run having more mana will probably benefit me more.

>Tome of Extra Knowledge: Vitalism
Some basic healing magic can never hurt.
>Amulet of Mara
This could help me be a better Summoner too, assuming it works on them.

>Faction: Merchant's Guild
I'll make lots of money with magic as is my dream. I'm guessing I'd be hiring out my summons for security or delivery work.
>>
>>48328600

>>
>>48329353
I'm thinking Major Motion, Blessed One and Stormsage. Logistics, healing and ensuring a suitable climate
>>
>>48329330
Maybe?
>>
>>48329353
Enchanting + Blessed One lets you create rejuvenating obelisks that heal anyone who touches them, or could even have an healing aura. Enchanting + Stormsage lets you create weather machines which could cover entire cities with perfect weather as needed.

As a single magic I believe Shapeshifting Major is best because by itself could be used to homogenize humanity in skin colour and gender thereby promoting equality. You could literally turn all of humanity into fair-skinned beautiful futas and no one would be discriminated against ever again.
>>
>>48329649
No physical discrimination just means more mental discrimination, or using external markers, like clothing, to enforce status.

Shapeshifting is still a great pick, but Enchanting and Motion are best to me.

You say that now, but I'm sure that plenty of people who are discriminated against for the way they look as we speak, would love to become a member of a futa planet where everyone is beautiful and fair-skinned. >>48329649
Major Shapeshifting only allows you to use the effects of Minor Shapeshifting on others. Which means cosmetic. You could, I suppose, mainstakingly change their skin color, but it wouldn't change their genes.

To do what you propose, you'd have to give shapeshifting to humans directly (easy), and then get them to voluntarily become homogenous (not... easy).

>>48329854
Assuming you live in a world without great supernatural threats, then I would say the top one might be Major Master of Motion, due to it's ability to eliminate logistical difficulties. But, the problem is that it creates a lot of problems with protection; if you don't control it tightly, people you don't want to have it will be able to teleport into very inconvenient places.

I think the best *minor* magic to give to all of humanity is probably Blessed One, due to its ability to cure disease, wounds and infection without having an destructive application (one of the downsides of giving Stormsage to the general population is that's it's not limited to "nice")

Spirit Singer is the other one I'd be inclined to give to the general population, due to its relative benevolence.

It's twelve credits of classes, meaning it would be four classes total. I'm going to add more add-on credits to classes when I finalize the details for the first version (which is my next order of business) which will make this matter a bit more. For now, it boils down to "pick either three classes or four classes per year". I'll try to clarify that in the wording.
The downside of taking four is only that you're in class for pretty much the whole day, six days a week. There isn't a mechanical downside, I'm not sure what such a downside would entail or if there even needs to be one.

Maybe add a bunch of clubs and social options and having 4 classes restricts the number you can take.

I knew it was a revision, I just noticed a lot of similarities with this Japanese light novel. It involves demons who gain powers as they practice their sin, especially their politics. The humor mainly derives from the different demons having vastly different perspectives based on their sin, especially the sloth Demon Lord who loses power just for standing up.

Sorry I meant disadvantage options in general not for the houses but you could add some for them if you wanted to

But in regards to the houses I felt that Rapture's houses gave both a good variety of options plus good descriptions of what each house was like. Each one had personality.

I find the descriptions for both the Fivefold house and The Greeks to be kind of lacking. Regarding the Fivefold what's it like living there. You gave a physical description but didn't say what the everyday life and atmosphere is like. The Greeks like to party okay but wait who are their slaves?

>I'm having trouble seeing what this would add conceptually that the classes and houses don't already. >>48332017

>>

>People would remember enough to post the Mystery Box whenever the CYOA comes up
Hell, they're already doing that. Italics changed the Mystery Box to make the goddesses more 'relal', but whoever keeps posting it INTENTIONALLY uses the old Mystery Box instead. Likely just so he can bitch about it.
>>
>>48332029
Don't mistake me; I'm completely without any religious beliefs; blasphemy is a victimless crime.

What I mean is that it is more disturbing in terms of the mindset of the person who would both think it important to make the judeo-christian god the "top" one, but also be okay with involving fetishes with Yahweh. I can't help but ask: who is this person?
>>
>>48332103
Rape appears to be a heavy element, but it's not institutionalized like in Rapture. Like, the staff doesn't exactly care about the rape itself, but they care enough about the PR to stop rape from happening in the dorms and on campus. Also, the rapists aren't the children of the most powerful beings in the multiverse and I assume the player is more powerful given what little I've seen so it honestly looks a good deal more survivable to me. So all in all, it seems a good deal better.

Yeah, I looked it over. As someone who is willing to deal with a CYOA with rape as long as one can actually make a difference in reducing rape within the setting, it seems like one that will definitely be worth a read.
>>
>>48332177
No, no. That's not what I'm saying. I couldn't care less if someone fetishes god. What I'm disturbed by is by imagining someone who holds BOTH of the following beliefs:

1. Yahweh is the most powerful god, better than all the others.
2. Yahweh wants to give me a footjob (and yes, I know that is as mild as fetishes get; consider it a placeholder).

It's actually the first one that bothers me more, but what I was saying was I'm disturbed imagining a person holding both of these ideas in their head at once.

I don't believe in sacredness at all, and don't care if people want to; this has nothing to do with me "defending" a religious idea.
>>

Does anyone know if slut life anon intended for Android bodies to be immortal? It doesn't say anything about it, nor does it include "Timeless" as one of it's freebies, but for some reason I'm getting the sense that they are indeed immortal...

Is there WOG on this subject?
>>
>>48332316

And if they aren't immortal, what is the point? Is there something special about them, or is it just the most expensive fetish in the entire cyoa?
>>
>>48332269
Look. Abrahmic mythology considers and portrays God to be all powerful and omnipotent. It follows that depictions of him would carry that trait. This is in contrast to almost every other mythology, where the deities have rivals, enemies, siblings, and troubles they're involved in that are equal or greater than them in power, and on top of that typically have a limited sphere (like storms, or the sun) instead of having literally all powers ever like the Abrahmic God.

That's why it only follows that in a CYOA with both God and other deities, God is going to be the strongest. He doesn't even have a limited sphere he can be assigned to, because whatever he was in charge of in the original pantheon before his cult eliminated the worship of all the other gods except his wife (then later on even his wife) has since been completely obscured to the point where scholars can basically only guess "Maybe war or the desert?"
>>
>>48332315
Yes! That's exactly the point. The idea that someone who considers themselves a Christian would have the god they believe holy cater to their fetishes. That's what I consider strange and offputting about it.

It would be like someone who seemed to be Muslim making a CYOA about Mohammed being ass-raped.

It's not a matter of offending me, just baffling me.
>>
>>48332336
Hmm... yes, that likely makes sense. If we assume that the creator didn't actually hold any judeo-christian belief, then it's much less baffling.

I'm trying to keep a balance. So you can get raped and you can rape, if you want, but it's not anywhere near as prevalent as in Rapture and it's more in the context of the school being barbaric and violent; it's a danger to face rather than pure fetish bait.

Angel's got a weird hangup with the whole rape thing. She's openly blogged about her abusive relationships and her psycho-sexual disorder (which is strongly associated with women who were sexually abused as children). But discussions about rape where she doesn't feel "in control" of the conversation upset her. Threatening that your CYOA character will rape hers will get a bigger rise out of her than flinging personal insults at her directly.

Speaking of her characters, several of them are revenge fantasies against rapists. A couple characters' primary purpose is to torture and kill rapists in extreme ways. And she almost always goes out of the way to list rapists among the types of criminals her crime fighting characters punish. Even her Super Soldier Angel build (one of her oldest and most posted ones) fights to "liberate women" in her free time. Lots of her characters also have rape in their backgrounds or traded sex for their powers, which she oddly treats as though it's rape. Despite a couple of glaring exceptions, the rape aspect for most of her characters is pretty subtle. But it's there.

I'm going for my Doctorate in Angelology btw. How am I doing?

>And the implication is that he'll literally be around forever. So, just floating around in the complete entropy of heat death at some point.
Anyone with true Immortality would suffer that fate. Probably shivering of cold, constantly gasping for breath that never comes, with vessels bursting over and over. Unless you also have protection from vacuum and don't need to breath. Even before that you could find yourself in a barren world inimical to life, with acid rains, superhot days and super cold nights, constantly suffering with hunger and thirst. Even before that the best way an enemy or goverment has to deal with an immortal is to stiick them in a prison hard enough for them to not break, seal it within a ton of concrete and drop it on the Marianas trench. Relatively cheap compared to detaining other superpowers.
True immortality seems like one of the best powers, but unless you have a kill switch, it can be the worst curse to have.

Think I feel like working on a throwaway CYOA after I finish the last revision on World of Myth and Wonder.

So, question: has anyone done a coffee-themed one yet?

>Get true immortality
>Somehow a higher plane of existence doesn't exist.
>Somehow you can't make your own higher existence using technology.
Get out namefag.
>>
>>48333370
Throw it out and make tea instead.
>>
>>48333352
oh, of course it's not. But just because we introduce true immortality to a fictional universe doesn't mean "ascension" is automatically possible too.
>>
>>48333058
>>48333155
Thanks for the help.

Ok any anons want to give me ideas for items? I'm making a CYOA where you sorta pick a special enchanted item with a snazzy name and a kinda theme to it.

Examples:

>cowards candle: a white sword that glows brighter the more scared the wielder is, great for spooky monsters and areas

>all ogling goggles: a pair of goggles that can switch between night and thermal vision

>fortune cookie: looks like a regular fortune cookie, but the note inside will contain extremely important information regarding your near future

Any nifty ideas guys?

I'm not saying the bod isn't real.
The face though? That's fake. It doesn't look like a real face at all. It looks like something out of a video game trailer.
>>
>>48333380
Heh; clever play on words.
>>
>>48333322
>>48333339

It's a bit of an arbitrary limitation on the supernatural to say that "true immortality" powers exists, but alternate universes/higher planes of existence don't.
>>
>>48333383

Just because you want to feel smart doesn't mean we have to pretend your stupid "gotcha" catch for immortality has to exist in our fictional universe, either.
>>
>>48333372
I suppose it comes down to how we view entropy. But, I suspect this won't be a productive conversation to continue.
>>
>>48332670
How long did you spend on this? Why?
>>
>>48333416
>>48333432
Wasn't intended to be a "gotcha"; in truth, whether or not I would go for immortality would depend on the CYOA in question. Some are more likely to have "higher planes" than others.
>>
>>48328600
hey acheld, prolly dont remember me but i am the 2 time, now 3 time poster that gave you kudos a while back. I would like if you could add a bit of fluff more then anything and allow a certain age to be reached before turning to (limited immortality) I would hate for my son to be 2 years old for thousands of years before present day. Unless that falls under the remove from slot and i am just being critical. Thanks again, and this is an awesome cyoa.

It's no longer going to exist, as Items are being replaced with Perks

>I'm not really understanding how you're going to do the mummy school then?
It's going to be halfway between v2 1.0's full school, and v1's "part of purple" version.

You won't be able to take it alone, like in the original version, but you can have it as a large part of your build.

>>48333291
>>48333367
There's not much i can see it doing that isn't meme spells, so i'm trying to make it better but the start of that is cutting out the memery.

Going into it i didn't really have any idea how to make it a full stand-alone school, and the stuff i've cut so far is just filler spells and bdsm magic.
>>
>>48333322
Even IF there is a higher plane of existence, it might not be possible. Ascending to that plane might necessitate that you first die and become a spirit. In fact, according to most religions, only people who die and reincarnate until purified, or who die while in a state of grace and being forgiven by the chief deity, are capable of ascending to that higher plane. Both options being out of reach of that immortal.

>>48333307
The problem is not eternal boredom, it's eternal pain and madness. True immortality would necessitate immunity to pain, possibly true invulnerability, to be worth anything.
And you're assuming the new universe won't be better than ours, filled with overdeities that consider you some sort of cosmic undying cockroach. Or so different from ours that it's mind shattering, both for you and for those that see you, but that doesn't necessarily make you powerful, just a low CR aberration. Or the new universe is so different than ours that it's very phisical laws areagaisnt you, but instead of making you an Elder God it just gives you a new eternity of endless pain and unchanging suffering. You might even come out in the new universe as an Elder God and just never find the one or two planets with living beings and pass the whole eternity just floating in space until the next heat death.
>>
>>48333516
First of all, it means a lot, thanks.

Secondly, it certainly was never my intent for people to be "locked" into childhood eternally. You can consider it canon that anyone granted immortality via your powers can age if they wish to.

I'm considering just adding a throwaway line in there that lets you age up or down freely; I don't see what it could hurt.

>>
>>48333669
It's still going to be half a school, but the fluff will clearly state that it's been mostly lost, with few remaining spells to use.

There will be a vastly decreased penalty for multi-school builds, and an incentive to do so in the future.

It will be less
>what you've learnt from one school
and more
>what you've learnt from your master's library
>>
>>48333698
Oh alright.
>>
>>48333694
Yo dog I heard you liked houses so I put five houses inside your house.
>>
>>48328600
Given that you've added more options would you consider increasing the amount of drawback points that are allowed for us filthy min-maxers? Cause I'm walking a dangerous tightrope as is between making magic available for the discount and preventing society from collapsing due to everyone being a Firebender.
>>
>>48333551
>meme spells
How are curses 'meme spells'?

You haven't addresses how you're fucking over anyone who wanted to be a mummy or have a desert theme. Now we have to be some other shitty type of necromancer with the spells you can count on one hand that are from the mummy school. Bet you're cutting all their other content too, like the companions.
>>
>>48333727
I'm hoping to get at least another 4 cross-school minions done, if not more.

>>48333752
All the other schools have spells that directly or near-directly relate to both their school and necromancy in use and theme, while Ancient only has a few, less than half, that do so.

I'll try and rework them to flesh out Ancient necromancy, but the point is, it needs to change and adapt.

Also
>Now we have to be some other shitty type of necromancer with the spells you can count on one hand that are from the mummy school
Please go see a doctor or guitar/piano teacher if you can count 6 spells on one hand.

>Bet you're cutting all their other content too, like the companions.
Reworking minions and companions with less Barker Sex Demon Magic. Not cutting them.

Bitch. You go Monkey people or you go home.
>>
>>48333788
Awesome. Those cross school ones really felt fun and unique, with the little descriptions. So how exactly are you going to borderline encourage cross school builds? Also I personally like the idea of only being able to pick maybe 2-3 spells from other schools and keep the main theme of whatever grimoire you choose.
>>
>>48333736
Oh, anon! Your agonizing choices bring me joy.

In seriousness, though, I will consider it, yes.

You don't see how you can use necromatic energies to inflict disease, age, and weakness on people? The whole thing was an obvious egyptian magic theme and everything that wasn't BDSM related fit fine.

>6 spells
This is supposed toe defeat the 'on one hand' argument? It's literally only one more.
>>
>>48333834
Why're you bitching so much? If you don't like it then don't use the next update.
>>
>>48333848

>You don't see how you can use necromatic energies to inflict disease, age, and weakness on people? The whole thing was an obvious egyptian magic theme and everything that wasn't BDSM related fit fine.
Fair enough. I'm not an unreasonable person and i will concede defeat in this debate.
You will see most if not all of those spells return.

>>48333814
Right now the idea is as you detailed, you get 1 grimoire and a little flavour from an/other(s).
In the future you will not be required to adhere to such a strict purchasing style.
I think i'll encourage single-school styles (+1 spell in that school for every 4-5 you pick?) or something, but i'll move away from negative enforcement.
>>
Scientist, I wanted to opine about your Broken Waifu CYOA.

First I'd like a larger section for children, perhaps subsections for gender or not. (Although a gender option is nice.) Oedipus and non-virgin need to be options as well.

The Mother option needs access to some of the options for job and income becoming a 'wealth' stat. (Multiply the 'income' by ten and half the point cost.)

What about a 'like or dislike' options for each; Mother, Child and Father? Just to make it easier to get into the grittyness of a build. Ofc, if a Father/Child/Mother is dead or out of the picture, than you cannot pick a option for this.

Are you doing anything with Promræn Caro?

Are you gonna expand the Minion options?
Also, I was always curious; do you have to know both spells involved in making the hybrid Minions, or could you team up with a necromancer from another school?

>>48333862
So you're complaining about a version that you know is going to be superior to the current version?

I hope to live up to my name and approach things in a scientific manner. If i'm wrong, i'll change. I don't want to be a stubborn cunt that instists they're right to no end.

>>48334308
It's likely.
At the least i'm lowering the requirements for certain minions so you don't need 2 spells for a ghoul, for example.

>Also, I was always curious; do you have to know both spells involved in making the hybrid Minions, or could you team up with a necromancer from another school?
I d't know if it's clear, but the idea is that the minions and spells you pick are what you will fleet the initial situation with, so you will need to have the spells to make the minion yourself; at least initially.
You can't team up to make cross minions until later, so you can't pick minions that rely on that plan.

>Eh; I haven't been able to come up with anything interesting that doesn't overlap/obsolete buying physical perks.

Not him, but how about something that works like a temporary, stacking Imbue/GreatHeroes?
For instance, at minor, you could improve your strength from 2 to about 2-and-a-half, or grant a level 0 power to a whole army as long as you devote all your attention to it. This only works for a few minutes at a time, after what you need to let your magic rest.

At major, giving lesser powers to others would require only a medium amount of focus, and you could improve your own powers by the equivalent of a whole level for a few seconds, or strengthen the magic of your imbued minor firedancers to turn each of them into a giant flamethrower (doesn't instantly give them the knowledge to cast higher level spells, it just make their spells bigger).

Basically, some kind of magical "sprint".
Not sure of the right balance of how long you could maintain an effect/how much of you attention you need to devote to not make this overpowered though. Maybe it's not feasible without a whole page of appendixes and special cases.

>>48335014
Yeah man, seriously. Some of the worst weaknesses and the weakest powers in the whole thing, there's no reason to be a vampire over a Fae or a Demon.
