I make them immune to damage coming from normal metal weapons, even if are magical, until their plates are sunder? Make adamantite weapons do only half damage to them until hardness points are out?

>tfw the only kingdom that's halfway decent for conquest in Golarion is Molthune, a country we hardly hear anything about.

Am I the only one that feels like the River Kingdoms could have seen more (and better) action as a place worth adventuring/conquering if it was around Lake Encarthan rather than up north in the ass-end of nowhere?

Like, everything around that lake can be moved somewhere else and nothing changes.
>>
>>48257228
River Kingdoms was obviously intended heavily for players who want "politics and war" because all the river kingdoms are constantly shifting power structures and nations.
Molthune vs Nirmathas is meant to just sort of be a tense border conflict, promoting gameplay revolving around smuggling and plots.
>>
>>48257526
>River Kingdoms was obviously intended heavily for players who want "politics and war" because all the river kingdoms are constantly shifting power structures and nations.

I can see that, I'm just saying they're so out of the way from the Inner Sea (action central) that people aren't really going to either care about conquering them, or even visiting them.

People want to conquer France or Britain, they don't want Livonia.

The River Kingdoms would have been much more interesting if they were a legitimate empire ran in the same way as the HRE, with each kingdom being a duchy and the Prince Electors constantly fighting for greater representation in the Diet.

Brevoy could have still been Not!Poland, now with a Bohemia or Pomerania analogue right next door.

Is it a mistake to focus on encounters that highlight players talents and abilities? Is it wrong to put in creatures that have weaknesses to something one of the players has and swap it up each encounter or is it okay? I'm a fan of giving players 'good match ups' and 'bad match ups' but I want /pfg/s opinion.
>>
>>48257569
I think the point was more that River Kingdoms are meant to be played on their own, the players are meant to travel to there and be able to conquer them BECAUSE they are in bumfuckistan.
Trying to conquer someone next to Cheliax, Korvosa, Andoran blah blah blah probably leads to an "intervention" by them.
>>48257640
I dont see much wrong with that. Sometimes you can even do both in the same encounter, like have a horde of mid tier dudes vulnerable to electricity (robots?) but throw in a flesh golem or shambling mound. MAKE THEM CHOOSE.
>>
>>48257640

I'd do it maybe once for each character in a campaign.

Preferably early on, so everyone gets a chance to show off their abilities to the rest of the party so once the gimmick fights stop, everyone knows what everyone else is good or bad at.

How do you handle character death and subsequent replacement, /pfg/?
Normally I would do the usual, that is, giving the player wealth by level and writing the new character in somehow in the next session.
At what point does death start feeling 'cheap'?

I'm playing in one campaign right now as a Paladin sworn to protect his friends. It's difficult when party members drop like flies, for example the sorcerer flies past the party in front of a ranged initiator and, well, drops like a fly.

One of my players is making a Fighter with an archetype that trades away Armor Training. He still wants to use some of the advanced armor training abilities though, so he wants to have a Sash of the War Champion (treat your Fighter level as 4 higher for Armor Training) so that he can access them.

Should I allow it? Seems like it would set a bad precedent for similar items, plus it's really just a method of trying to sneak around the limitations of his archetype.

>>48258687
Grab a single level dip in Swashbuckler (either vanilla or Whirling Dervish) so you can actually get some useful weapon choices out of the deal, easy Weapon Finesse, bump up your BAB to be better at your job, and use the Deeds like Derring-Do to help mitigate the loss of your skill versitility, and riposte for sticky situations.

After that, select mostly utility and defensive, and maybe some antimagic stuff, spells to shore up your versatility, since you've already got some combat potency.

Prioritize Dex and Cha, keep Con relatively high along with Wis, avoid dumping Str too far, Int is your dumpstat

With Razor Kiss, you will now spend a good amount of time critfishing, and your bonuses to Speed and Reflex can help you charge and attack high priority targets.

Useful feats would include Weapon Focus, Slashing Grace, and Combat Reflexes, Antagonize, Combat Reflexes, and the like

Here is the comparisin on deadly aim for a bow fighter.

As the opponents AC goes lower, deadly aim has significant gains on no deadly aim. As the opponents AC goes higher, Normal attacks win out.

The break even point is at 28 AC, or when the fighter needs to roll a 4 on the d20 to hit without using deadly aim.

This suggests that deadly aim might not be the "mandatory feat" that all ranged builds have it as.
>>
>>48257729
I'm gonna side with >>48257828 and say bloodrager, except go Destined. Absolutely nuts defensive abilities (grab that robe of heritage to get 95% fortification earlier) for the boatloads of life, a shit ton of damage with buffs and can get BIG with raging, buffs and especially Enlarge Person. That big enough for you?
>>
>>48259357
I would say that the arcane bloodline is better. Getting a swift action self-cast mirror image is a lot better than ignoring some crits.
>>
>>48259367
Looking at Arcane Bloodline, they don't get Mirror Image from any of their abilities. You may well be right (getting displacement+protection from energy+Transformation whenever you rage is nuts) but Destined strikes me as much nicer, especially as 'some crits' is basically 'all crits'. Yes you don't get to ignore sneak attacks, but that's what Blur is for.

That said I might be biased, as I did see a Destined bloodrager in action when I haven't seen the others.
>>
>>48259428
I was referring to using the metamagic rager archetype to start a fight with haste and mirror image on the first turn. It lets you just ignore your AC completley because you have decent saves and HP.

Aberrant bloodrager is also interesting. Using a reach weapon can give you crazy-bullshit reach on your attacks.
>>
>>48259320
That works on the assumption that your main attack bonus on your first iterative is +24 though, with the expected bonus on the following attacks. It doesn't account for what happens if the bonus on your attack rolls is higher than that. Increasing the bonus to hit only shifts the AC where a normal attack becomes better to a higher number (presumably by the same number that the attack bonus was increased), but at some point you've shifted that AC to a high enough number that it's not relevant- none of your CR appropriate challenges are likely to have an AC that high.

Since I don't see any indication of what level this archer is, I can't really speculate on optimized its to-hit is or how much further it can be optimized to increase it. I'm making the assumption, based on the number of attacks it is getting, that it's an 11th level Fighter. That makes the bonus seem pretty reasonable to me at first glance (taking somewhat conservative estimates of weapon enhancement and DEX score, plus Haste), but having never played a dedicated archer before I have no idea if there are other miscellaneous bonuses that could be eked out that I'm unaware of. Though my source for this is rather dated, I believe the mean AC doesn't exceed 27 until CR 14 and the mode until CR 13. For a level 11 character, these are likely going to be the strongest opponents they should be facing, in battles that should be against only one enemy (which typically favors the PCs unless the enemy is so strong that it becomes a total blow out). More frequently, they will probably be fighting a larger number of lower CR enemies.

Anyway, nothing that hasn't been said before, but that's my two cents.
>>
>>48258486
Depends on your campaign. Ethereal Sight is pretty unique. Any campaign with ghosts or ethereal creatures, being able to notice them right away is very useful.

In campaigns without many shenanigans, a +1 on saving throws would be far more useful.

All in all he had more than 1000 effective health. It was fun watching the players grow confused after 600 wondering if he had someway to make damage not matter. That on top of DR, temp HP, regen, and more he appeared to have quite a lot of health.
>>
>>48259563
>That works on the assumption... AC that high.
The problem is that a lot of CR appropriate enemies actually do have a really high AC. Pazio just seems to love giving everything +20 natural armor to keep their ac where it "should" be. This is especially important when fighting CR=APL+4 enemies, as their AC is even higher.

>Since I don't see... lower CR enemies.
I make all of my builds for level 12, and yea while this isn't "100% mathematically perfect DPR fighter" it is decent. I need to update it because there were some item nerfs but this is close to what a fighter of that level would look like if they went the "autistic bow wielder" route.

That is the same source I use for my information on typical monster stats, including for the post you are responding to, but I have no idea how up-to-date it is. Shit, already found a mistake. That's supposed to be a bonus to Profession (Brewer) checks equal to your Alchemist level, just like the normal Craft (Alchemy) bonus.
>>
>Fortified brew

how about no?
>>
>>48259473
Oh true, I'm more a primalist man myself though. Also is it me or does Metamagic Rager not actually need Arcane bloodline, while you can get round 1 mirror image+haste via standard Greater Bloodrage.
>>
>>48259819
Level+Int. per day, not at will. Just like Bombs, just with more versatility.

I will say that I have been thinking about doing half level instead of level to daily uses, since it is quite a bit more versatile than bombs.
>>
>>48259888
I just realised primalist and metamagic rager stack. I'm a spoon!
>>
>>48259888
>>48259913
You can get it via level 12 greater rage, but getting it earlier is better. YOu can also get another effect instead.

Starting the fight with three spells cast on yourself for free at level 12 is really nice.
>>
>>48259819
>>48259898
Ah, wait, sorry, I thought you thought it was at will, I forgot I'd put the Will bonus in there last minute. Anyway, you can get half level to attack and damage as a swift action with an Investigator and one Talent, and that is at will, so I don't really see the problem here.

I think I will change the Will bonus to just Will saves vs. fear, though, since that does fit the flavor a bit better anyway.
>>
>>48259950
>Will bonus to just Will saves vs. fear
might as well get rid of it then.

>>48259971
If nothing else, it makes a good ribbon for the ability, what with it being alcohol-based and all. Whether you think it's useful or not, it makes for good flavor.

Lord of the Lash anon here. My flight got pushed back to 1500 hours, so I've got time for a few posts.

Now, I'm not going to post the Lord of the Lash again, but instead I have some question.

I've also been planning Initiating Archetypes for other classes as well, and I need some help with theming and ideas.

MY other plans in the works are:

>Eagle Eye Sniper (Slayer)
I cannot for the life of me determine what should be the Init Modifer for this one.

>Hunter
Am trying to determine what would be a good theme/gimmick to build this archetype around. Some sort of unique flavor to make it feel more than just "Initiating Hunter".
Also I'm having a hard time deciding whether to replace the Casting wholesale, or just diminish the casting like Warpath Followers.

>Gunslinger
Same as with the Hunter, I need theming before I can get started. Gunslinger deserves so much more than it does, and I also need a way to separate it from Gunsmoke Mystic and Privateer
been considering using either Bloodborne or the old guy from Boondock Saints as inspiration, but I'm not completely sold on either idea.

I also have some plans for Magus (War Weaver) and Summoner (Platinum Invoker (name temporary)), and Antipaladin (Corrupt Herald) but that's not important at the moment.

Also, once I have all my homebrew stuff done, I plan on making "Iconic Sample Characters" for each one. As such I'd like to poll you guys for what Races you'd want them all to be.
So far I have planned
>at least 2 humans (undecided)
>a Female Drow (Lord of the Lash)
>a Male Dwarf (Undecided, but most likely either Seneschal or Eagle Eye Sniper)
>a male Samsaran (undecided, but will most likely be the gunslinger and be based slightly off of this song https://youtu.be/aFkcAH-m9W0
Any other races/types of characters you all would want for the iconics?
>>
>>48259942
Entirely true too, but while arcane bloodline does things you can already do via metamagic rager and greater bloodrage, Destined gives you stuff you don't get by default (Sizable luck bonuses, cheating death consistently and ignoring most crits). A lot of the time having lots of spells up in 1 round is just gravy compared to having them up across two rounds anyway. For example, looking at mirror image+haste the latter is an absolutely tiny buff in the opening round, unless you're Pouncing or you start within full attack range.
>>
>>48260036
Or if you are ambushed, but yea, I also agree.

One of the reasons I like the class is that there are several ways to build it well.
>>
>>48260024
>>Eagle Eye Sniper (Slayer)
>I cannot for the life of me determine what should be the Init Modifer for this one.
Slayer's save DC's are Intelligence, like the Rogue, so Intelligence makes sense.

>>Hunter
>Also I'm having a hard time deciding whether to replace the Casting wholesale, or just diminish the casting like Warpath Followers.
Definitely diminished casting, that's one of the fun parts of the Warpath stuff, is mixing magic and initiating without having to use a prestige class.

As for the theme, I'd drop the animal companion, then allow the Hunter to instantly summon a "spirit animal" within range that initiates a maneuver, then disappears. Not sure of an easy way to stat out the attacks it would use, but the flavor is cool, I think.

>Gunslinger
I kinda like the Bloodborne idea (I'm a huge Soulsborne fan), and the idea of a gunslinger with one gun that he changes on the fly sounds really cool. For example, the maneuver recovery could be using a full round action to reconfigure his gun into a different shape/ammo type.

I'd also love to see a spontaneous initiator at some point, though I'm not sure how that would work. Just initiating any maneuver you know rather than having a set of readied maneuvers, with a smaller pool of maneuvers known.

PF may not be the best system for you.

However, a Dhampir Warder with Broken Blade and Unquiet Grave may work.

If 1pp only allowed, a Dhampir UC Monk could help, or a Paladin would be better if you don't mind your Unarmed being kinda trash and eating a trait or feat to make you not die from PosEn
>>
>>48260157
Vampire Steel Fist commando, tradition or trait some unquiet grave?
>>
>>48260222
First of all, you're a vampire. Being a vampire in and of itself makes you highly resistant to things (undead get a lot of free shit).

However being a vampire is next to fucking impossible in the system, so lets just hand wave it.

For super high defense what you want is Anti-paladin/Destined Blood Rager Primalist multiclass. Get Superstition and Moment of Clarity.

You use Cha for Fort saves, HP, and add it as a bonus to all saves. You're immune to mind effecting spells. Pump Cha through the roof and be an Urban bloodrager who puts ALL of his bloodrage into Dex. Be dex based since you can finesse natural weapons.

If you want to be a vampire there IS a way to do it, but you have to be higher level.

So this is the only way to be a vampire with free will.

Antipaladin 10/Agent of the Grave 5 (Or something else into Agent of the Grave). You need to cast Animate Dead to qualify for Agent of the Grave. However Agent of the Grave allows you to retain intelligence and free will when you become undead as their 5th level class feature.

So i got this situation.

An enemy alchemist is inside a fort preparing his bombs, i sneak through a hole in the ceiling and see what he is doing, he notices me and quickly gets a hold of a fire bomb and is about to throw it at me.

We roll initiative and i go first i grab a tanglefoot bag and throw it at him, it hits him and holds him in place, if im correct it should stick the bomb to his hand making him unable to throw it at me.

Then his lackeys run to help him and start attacking the stickyhard goo but i still manage to act again before they can destroy it.

Can i use my bow and hit the bomb with an arrow and make it explode along with the other bombs and the entire room?

Im still learning about pathfinder so im a little confused which mechanics are involved in this.

What is the DC for trying to hit the bomb in hand in specific? Which modifiers are involved? Do i need an specific feat or something like that?

>>
>>48260580
The tanglefoot bag would not prevent the alchemist from throwing the bomb at you, per the normals rules for tanglefoot bags. If it did, you would be able to make a called shot to attack the bomb vial, at a penalty adjudicated by your DM.

However, all this is irrelevant because mixed alchemist bombs failsafe unless thrown per the alchemist class description, so the bomb wouldn't explode.
>>
>>48260580
That'd just be the equivalent of a ranged sunder to hit a held object. As for blowing up the room, alchemists only make their bombs just before they throw them, so it'd just blow up the one bomb if anything.

To go into further detail, an alchemist's bomb consists off two separate groups of ingredients, which are both inert when separate. They only form a bomb when combined, which the alchemist does right before throwing them.

That said, strictly speaking the bomb shouldn't be stuck to him since tanglefoot bags don't stop you attacking. That said if your DM lets you get away with it, see the first part of this post for how the rest should go.

>>48260650

Here is my current feat tree for my zen archer. The extra ki is nice because using a conductive bow to deliver schorching ray via arrows costs 4 ki per shot.

But I think that there might be a better way to spend them, and I'm not a huge fan of the conductive bow trick as another +1 hit and damage seems more reliable to me than 12d6 fire damage three times a day.

Half the time they're filled with the most insufferably generic or otherwise anime PCs you've ever ran across, and the other half they're so open-ended and poorly designed that it just turns you off from even bothering with a fleshed out character.

No, but that's mostly because I'm off the market (found my groups and I don't feel the need to find any more.)

>Does the advertisement have good spelling? Grammar?
>Does the advertisement reasonably explain the plot or major themes of the campaign?
>Does the advertisement include stickies for lore, character creation or applications? Is there any banned content that was forbidden due to petty reasons (lol I don't like Paladins, etc.)?
>What kind of characters are being created for this campaign? Look for the people already in the campaign, and look for their application. Did the DM give a "pls let me join now" an invite, or was it just people with fleshed out, well-done characters?

And, most importantly
>Does the DM seem like a rational, fun person? Read their responses to other players, gauge their personality, get a feel for the man or woman from the way they describe things. The greatest DM I've ever been in consistently showed spunk, excitement and helpfulness during my application process for her campaign. These are qualities you should look for.

Had an idea for a feat, would like some opinions.

Argent Typhoon
Prerequisites: Quick Draw, two Mithral Current Maneuvers, two Tempest Gale maneuvers.
Benefit: You may make Mithral Current strikes with a ranged weapon, provided you make them within your weapon's first range increment and you draw your weapon as part of the attack. If the strike is ranged (Iron Wave et.al.), use the maneuver's range rather than your weapon range.

So I'm gonna be playing a Savage Technologist/True Primitive. I want to VMC, what do you think would work for that? I was thinking Oracle originally, but maybe Magus?

What would support A gunslinging illiterate barbarian the best?
>>
>>48262385

Invite sent ;), hope you like Tieflings.
>>
>>48262500
In general VMC is a bad idea.
>>
>>48262650
Not always, there's some good ones.
>>
>>48262650
Oracle/Cavalier/Magus/Barbarian are good ones
>>
>>48262500
Oracle with the Lame Curse would eventually give you immunity to fatigue, meaning no downside to ending your Rage. It's a very good option.
>>
>>48262704
I'm going to be a sniper as well, so being slow doesn't matter much.
>>
>>48262384
First range increment isn't much of a limiting factor for most weapons, unless it severely fucks them.

It may be easier to say something like 30ft or the first range increment, whichever comes first, so you don't have a huge divide between knives and longbows.

Though I actually like the feat. Query, does retrieving ammunition count as drawing the weapon? I doubt it, because that's largely meaningless, but it could be worth a special note.
>>
>>48262853
Good point on the range.

I would say no on the ammunition, as it's really intended for a pistol duelist or other quickdraw ranged fighter. That said, you could use Mithral Current's rules for what qualifies as 'sheathed', and probably draw and load ammo as part of the action if it's a free action.

Special: If you are using a weapon with ammunition, and can draw and load that ammo as a free action, you may do so as part of the attack.

Reminding new people that this is here, and that I can still compare some attack profiles if you want.

So, a Savage Technologist/True Primitive/Pack Rager. Don't have many actual class features left.
>>
>>48261291
Like half of their players left a couple months ago. The head of it is just a guy that uses it as a playground and hands out levels to his own characters whenever he feels like it.

It was the "Deadly Aim is a Bad Feat" framing that pissed people off.

Largely because that's not true. Simply the act of giving you the choice to use it makes it quite good.
>>
So what archetype combos let you replace ALL of a class's class features?
>>
>>48263097
Can all of those actually stack? It feels like they're conflicting a lot with each other, mechanically.
>>
>>48263175
Also the fact that he started off being wrong on basic shit starts to make you question him. Fuck, he started out saying that you miss when your roll ties with the target AC, makes you sort of wonder what else he's got wrong.
>>
>>48263232
An assload of combos replace all Fighter "features".

I should imagine it's a shark-girl wearing a collar of some variety.

Finally got power back in my house. On-deck again.

You feeling better, broski?
>>
>>48263401

She was a shark Skinwalker that was always in partial shark form (her icon art was dreadfully furry) that always wore a collar owned by her master, another player that made it acutely obvious within 1 minute of game start that they were ERP buddies.

I'm talking thinly-veiled "eating fish tonight" kind of innuendo.

What's the problem? All in all that's pretty much one of the standard Magus builds, nothing too out-there at all.

>playing an elf magus and using a katana instead of a scimitar

He has a bad case of being retarded if he didn't ask to refluff a scimitar as a katana so he could take Dervish Dancing.
Also go fuck yourself, Bladebound/Kensai is cool, blame the player if he acts like a dumbass.

Something most players don't know about and most GMs won't allow
>>
>>48264060
Since that guy is posting in DSP general, I'd assume he's the kind of DM who would allow the feat.
>>
>>48264042
A DSP feat that may or may not be available to that player? Unless someone mentions DSP content, why would you assume they use it? I assume random shitposts complaining about a particular player with very little detail is someone in a 1pp-only game.
>>
>>48264059
>>48264060
Not that anon, but I'm in a group where the only DSP that's not allowed is Mystic 8, because Quell Magic is too powerful.

It's fairly common to assume 3pp is allowed unless explicitly stated otherwise.

Se the line in the pastebin which also used to be in the OP post
>If you would like assistance with character optimization, please mention which third-party sources are allowed.

Wat
I meant in /pfg/ discussions, not when applying for a game.
>>
>>48264177
Oh. My bad.
>>
>>48264148
No it fucking isn't because it is never allowed unless specifically stated. Your custom third party houserules are not the "default" no matter how much you want to sell them.

>doesn't mention DSP content

Stupid
>>

>doesn't mention DSP content

the post that sparked this entire shitstorm did not mention DSP content, and that is what I'm referring to.
I see what you mean, but this entire conversation is moronic at best.

>No it fucking isn't because it is never allowed unless specifically stated. Your custom third party houserules are not the "default" no matter how much you want to sell them.
Bruh, this is /pfg/. 3pp is pretty much the only thing discussed here. And it was a very reasonable guess that the discussed person used daisho expertise, as the build wouldn't make sense otherwise.

I think he has...12 dex? maybe 14?
