Welcome to a thread where we discuss the backstory to a children's card game and make awful OC for the same setting. Expect the lowest quality of fanfiction and self-inserts in this thread. Remember, every snowflake is shit, especially yours and especially mine.

Previous thread: >>47666030
What happened in it? Absolutely nothing of value other than more terrible snowflake discussion. You can find it yourself if you're really so interested.

There's also a repository where someone is obsessively hoarding all of the OC we produce, whether it's a shitty snowflake planeswalker or a terrible story. Whatever you make, expect it to be saved. Here's the repository:

And if you're interested in discussing the lore that's almost as bad as what we make, then here's the latest MtG lore article featuring Arlinn being a bitch:

Enjoy your stay and don't forget, all snowflakes are equally shit, especially yours.

>>
>>47709390
I'm just going to say it would work better if you say have him pilot that ship by himself, alone from plane to plane, and maybe try to hook up other walkers as crewmen instead of just "ancient curse no one can explain and he can drag people through the blind E like it's no one business".
>>
>>47709551
Very true. And I plan on the main crew being flakes. This, why Gaia and I are going to make walkers out of five total.
>>
>>47709551
>>47709576
Also, I see it as the rest of the crew would be zombies he's amassed on that plane until they walk away. Then repeat.
>>

>>
>>47710562
That's already discussed on most bio sheets. Look for yourself. Or is this post just bait for a certain someone?
>>
>>47711144
I just like to hear people talk about their flakes. Sometimes posters share details in the thread that aren't on their bio sheets. And also just seeing enthusiasm about characters is nice.
>>
>>47711289
I'll discuss all my flakes' ignitions when I get the free time from work.

Seems like a good thread for it. Question: How does one become a plane sealer, and what are the benefits/drawbacks of it?

There used to be old planeswalkers who were vastly more powerful than the new ones right? I remember next to nothing about Mtg, it's been over 14 years since I played it last
>>
>>47721812
Planeswalker* not plane sealer thank you phone
>>
>>47721812
Oh boy. Old walkers were several hundreds time more powerful than post-mending walkers, which are just glorified wizards with the option to jump to other planes with little control on where they land on the surface of the chosen world. Old walkers were pretty much immortal gods with next to never ending power and you had to pull out some serious shit to get rid of one.
Now, some people have the spark, the majority does not. Of those few people that can become walkers, only a small part actually does. To trigger the spark to ignite you need to face some deadly odds, a very painful/stressful life or death situation or stuff like that. Known examples being, burning for centuries inside a time bubble that makes you revive the same 3 seconds of being on fire over and over, being buried alive, getting actually killed by robot-wizards, and so on.

I meant to post this last night but 4chan was giving me issues. I liked the idea of Serena and The Cathar having a fight due to a misunderstanding, gives me a good chance to practice writing a combat scene as I've yet to do one. That is, if that's okay with his creator?

>>
>>47733053
Out of pure nostalgia or want to be back to a time before his spark ignited, he wants to believe that she is either not involved, acting against it,trying to help, or still missing somewhere.
If someone told him that Avacyn was responsible, they would get a long silent stare from him, a sigh as he makes sure his crossbow is loaded and gives a tired "so she is" before continuing onto his destination. Being told she's dead would get much the same reaction but he'd probably sit down if there was some place to do so instead of fucking off.

They have a fair amount of control, actually, as far as landing. Planeswalking is different from each planeswalker, from what I know. Some planeswalkers even have specific methods of doing so. To Kiora, it's traversing a vast and unknowable ocean, while to Elspeth, it's highly traumatic and almost always a blind leap of faith.

My only real criticism is about punctuation mistakes and run-on sentences. I'd go back through if I were you, and mark down all of the sentences that can be split in teo. This should especially happen during the action sequences, as longer sentences tend to detract from the reader's sense of urgency.

Lastly, perhaps have their misunderstanding last longer, and come to a halt more dramatically. This will also heighten the tension while playing up the drama and engaging the reader's sympathies.
>>
>>47753111
Don't tempt me.

Thanks, I get my friends to read stuff first but they're too nice to actually point out problems. Punctuation is a serious problem I have, I'll go back through it today, I've got time.

>>
>>47754215
I was thinking something along the lines of Serena turning the tables as he tries to end her, knocking the sword out of his hands. Some Fisticuffs happen or some such stuff, ending with her with a foot on The Cathar's chest.
He tells her to finish him, she demands to know how he knew her name
they realize that the other isn't crazy pants
it goes from there.

Can't summon duplicates of Planeswalkers... As far as I know. But, that's a little too much into current lore for Vronak. But, that strikes a question. Duplicates have the same personalities as whatever they are created after just without the experiences... But, do summons retain experiences from the first time they are summoned by a particular mage up until the mage no longer summons them again, either becoming unnecessary or upon their death?

>Not wanting a Gitgud Monster plushe
>>
>>47758090
yeah, I never really got that. Considering Phyrexia is literally against the basic fabric of a Planeswalker it would be very difficult to find a walker who would support them .
>>
>>47758152
Like all of Zendikar with the Eldrazi? All it takes is for some dumb society to worship them and bam! One is born with a spark and becomes their champion.
>>
>>47758225
Except with Phyrexia becoming their champion means torn apart limb by limb
>>
>>47758062
Actually, even in the days of Oldwalkers we've found that summons of specific beings, to people that knew the real one, are not perfect copies in terms of how they behave.

It's sort of like if you made an android replica of someone, but the AI doesn't have the same concepts of feeling and self-awareness. It might be built to do things and act like the original person did, but you can tell that there's something not quite right about it.
>>
>>47758341
After they take over the multiverse. I think they wouldn't assimilate the walker until they outlasted their usefulness.
>>
>>47758152
Right?

Even my flake, Remes, who is all about artifice, has stopped visiting Mirrodin since the Phyrexian invasion for fear of how dangerous it is.
>>
>>47758368
naw, that doesn't fit with Phyrexian philosophy. They would never allow an Imperfect being to lead them or even be their vanguard.
>>
>>47758368
They wouldn't even need to wait until they conquered everything, which is theoretically impossible. They would just have to have the Walker show them how to get out of New Phyrexia and then kill them.
>>
>>47758364
And I believe where the lack of the same experiences come in. When they learn things on their own and form their own experiences, they start to drift further apart from their creative model. But, do they keep those new experiences from previous summonings?
>>
>>47758405
If that were the case, they'd probably just experiment on the walker and try to figure out how the spark functions, how to duplicate it, and/or how to bond one to a Phyrexian.
>>
>>47758500
Yawgmoth spent 10,000 years trying to figure that one out. If he couldn't do it I doubt anyone currently alive could do it.
>>
>>47758532
That doesn't mean they won't try.
>>
>>47758550
true
>>
>>47758078
What is this?
>>
>>47758532
I think if anyone could do it, Jin Gitaxias could.
>>
>>47758569
Fluff?
>>
>>47758532
Compleation seems to be the one process other than death that destroys a planeswalker's spark permanently. I'm not totally sure why though. Maybe it's the identity-killing nature of compleation or perhaps because compleation's a bizarre form of necromancy in its own right? It's hard to say.
>>
>>47758458
Summoned beings, coming from aether, are temporary. They wouldn't collect permanent memories over multiple summonings. Your experience matters though, because you can command it differently based on what's happened before.
>>
>>47758674
The reason is that the process of Compleation requires the subject to die then be brought back from death.
>>
>>47758698
It's a process of gradual replacement of flesh with metal in a living creature though, death isn't necessarily involved and consider that we've got partially metal planeswalker in the form of Tezzeret and a full artifact planeswalker in the form of Karn, although his situation is unique.
>>
>>47758679
As I see it, once you have summoned a creature that is a duplicate of a real creature, since it has behaviorisms modeled after that creature, the next time you summon it, you'd be using the template of the previous creature you summoned rather than using the same creature it was originally modeled after. So, theoretically it could retain memories of the last time you summoned it since you are conjuring that template. So, any differences would have been copied. Kind of like Ashaya.
>>
>>47758733
The other problem is that Oil is required and Oil negates a spark
>>
>>47758775
The summoning of Ashaya is a different case, particularly since it is typically done ON Zendikar.

"Summoned" creatures take two forms. There are the ones pulled from Aether that are facsimiles of the original thing, or there are real creatures that are either willingly serving you or are being controlled by some form of geas. Ashaya in particular isn't temporary, as it is part of the plane itself.
>>
>>47758815
I'm interested in the 'why' part of it though.
>>
>>47758863
best reason I heard was that A spark is the ultimate manifestation of life while oil is the ultimate manifestation of Death.
>>
>>47758849
Ashaya wasn't the soul of Zendikar or apart of Zendikar at all but was Nissa that was connected to Zendikar. Summons don't always just fight then go away, they stay for as long as they are needed or until they are killed. And Nissa didn't summon a copy of any creature to make Ashaya, she just made Ashaya. And when she left Zendikar and it disipated, and then returned and brought it back, it still had the previous memories. And that's the basis for my theory of summons retaining memories. That it's not like it's retaining them on it's own, more like you are making a new template for the summon that was modeled after the last time you summoned it.
>>
>>47758928
Not sure about that but it could be the case. I guess someone could come up with a ridiculous reason for a Phyrexian walker though.

I mean, Jeska went through a process that killed her spark and her identity only to eventually be able to ignite when she emerged from the deceased Karona as a planeswalker and her original self. Her ignition was even more ridiculous and convoluted than Karn's.
>>
>>47758971
>Wasn't a part of Zendikar
What is an elemental, friend? Despite the good points you make regarding how summons can LAST despite still being temporary, this is the crux of the entire argument.
>>
>>47759002
The only problem would be that a Phyrexian Walker would mean an almost guaranteed Phyrexian victory. Imagine how fucked the Multiverse would be if Karn not only knew he was spreading oil but was doing it intentionally.

>Go to plane
>Walk around a bit
>Seed the world with oil
>Wait a few decades/centuries
>????????
>Grand Compleation completed
>>
>>47759086
A common theory is glistening oil is only effective against artifact creatures or creatures that are contaminated with metal.

Urborg's saturated with glistening oil without being a Phyrexian stronghold, the one creature immune to it on Mirrodin was someone that lacked any metal components in their body, etcetera. Fleshy creatures can still be compleated, this is true, but they can't be corrupted by glistening oil.

Mirrodin was designed from the ground up by an oil-corrupted Mirari to be the perfect host for New Phyrexia. The only other plane that's likely to suffer from the presence of glistening oil is Alara or more specifically, Esper.
>>
>>47759149
It might take time but oil might have an effect on flesh. Imagine if a plane is saturated with oil from the inside for a thousand years.
>>
>>47758587
Just wondering why you linked it to me specifically. I mean, I like it, angels. I'm just kinda confused.
>>
>>47759193
Urborg's already had a few centuries, if I recall the timeline correctly and all that's done is kept the place a wasteland saturated with black mana but still populated by some living creatures that show no sign of Phyrexian affiliation.
>>
>>47759234
it's only been 300 years since Yawgmoth and the Invasion
>>
>>47759242
Hence 'centuries.' And considering how slow a pace MtG is moving right now, with a roughly 1:1 ratio of real time to MtG time, it'll take centuries of real life before we get to the stage where we find out if oil corrupts non-metallic life over thousands of years.
>>
>>47759037
Elementals are just beings made of element energy. Not some Avatar of the plane itself.
>>
>>47759276
could have time travel shenanigans again.

But that's just grasping at straws really.
>>
>>47759227
Because I figured that you'd like it. It's fluff.
>>
>>47759276

>>
File: image.png (1 MB, 670x1008) Image search: [Google]
image.png
1 MB, 670x1008
>>47759293
Someone called?
>>
>>47759279
That wasn't the point though. They are literally natural elements (in this case being actually part of the plane), animated by magic. This is what we call a deflection.

You can argue that Ashaya doesn't count as an Avatar, but it's a part of the plane given life. More than that, Ashaya is Legendary, meaning that Nissa isn't just animating an elemental together and saying "this is Ashaya," this is Nissa specifically animating Ashaya from the plane. She is "worldwaking" Zendikar, and Ashaya is the being that comes to answer the call.
>>
>>47759319
>>47759293
So, we have a time-traveling planeswalker go forward in time to bring back an oil-corrupted creature from a plane that has been corrupted by the glistening oil over the course of millennia, that also possesses a spark, in order to create a potentially lore-abiding Phyrexian planeswalker.

Ingenious.

Much appreciated that you posted articles related to a discussion happening, but could you clarify the particulars of what you wanted readers to gain?
>>
>>47759544
I've learned not to participate in certain arguments that take place in these threads.

All I'm willing to contribute is that we know that Ashaya is the embodiment of Zendikar and those articles support that.
>>
>>47759572
Does it outright specify that though? I know Nissa says that he is apart of Zendikar, but she might just be meaning that since he is made of wood. I've never seen anything actually stating that he is the plane itself brought form. Which would be weird considering we have the avatar Soul of Zendikar.
>>
>>47759572
Your wish to be neutral is understood, and your assistance in gathering lore materials is appreciated.

>>47759685

>>
>>47759649
>>47759624
It's not like I don't see your point. I was merely tossing around a theory.
>>
>>47759603
Considering that Ashaya vanished when the soul of Zendikar was kidnapped by ob nixilis without anyone but Nissa noticing, it is safe to say that it is a direct manifestation of Zendikar
>>
>>47760160
Possibly, or it could have meant that Nissa lost her connection to Zendikar and no longer had the control over Zendikar's mana to sustain Ashaya permenantly. But, I think it's a little of both, personally.
>>
>>47759649
I'm guessing it's for the same reason I stopped trying to say anything about the actual lore of Magic in these threads at all.

Btw, this pic was spoiled along with the line:

"An Innistrad without Avacyn is an Innistrad drenched in chaos"

Maybe, if I'm being an optimist, this could allude to an Avacyn return? As in, without her the plane literally can't survive? So if they want to keep Innistrad as a plane and NOT kill it off this set, they need her to return?

I dunno. Could just be a pipe dream.
>>
>>47762352
They'll bullshit something or another to keep the plane around so they can return again. I mean, they bullshitted a way to let Zendikar survive, and it should've been devoured. And Innistrad's a much more popular plane than Zendikar is, since Zendikar's popularity came from Being A Strong Set with Full Art Lands (and the Eldrazi that they killed off)
