Do you milk drinkers know about motherfucking YSGRAMOR?

Ebony is the blood of lorkhan. Ysgramor cried ebony tears after the falmer raided Saarthal. Ysgramor is a shezarrine. His tears were used to forge Wuuthrad, which makes it a lorkhanic artifact. It's also enchanted by Ahzidal.

Look at his statue and how he holds Wuuthrad. You can also find his shield in his tomb, which looks hilariously oversized on the player character. The player can't use both his axe and his shield because the axe is two-handed and huge. Ysgramor's statue is life-size, and he was able to use both Wuuthrad and his shield.

According to ''Fragmentae Abyssum Hermaeus Morus'', Ysgramor was nearly turned into an elf by Hermaeus Mora, who took the shape of a hare, but a fox (Shor) saves him, and warns him about elven trickery. This was in Atmora, before Ysgramor had met any elves at all. Shor destined him to go on elf killing sprees before he even knew what they were.

I wish we had more info on this guy, especially about his meetings with Hermaeus Mora.

You know what's odd? Read up 'special flora of Tamriel'.

Some of the plants mentioned actually appear in other provinces. It's not too unusual to have plants appear in multiple provinces, but Ironwood Nut is supposed to appear in Skyrim but only does so in Oblivion.

As for why there isn't any ironwood in skyrim, maybe they cut it all down for weapons and armor, like icelanders did with their trees

I was wondering, where do Nords really originate from?

Were they really breathed onto the Throat of the World by Kyne? Did they descend from Nedes? Or from Atmorans? Or a combination of sorts?

As far as I know, the whole shouting aspect of Nords is not present in Atmorans (correct me if I'm wrong though), and Atmorans might've been giants if we use Ysgramor's statue, axe and shield for reference.

I guess, but I really liked how Adam Adamowicz made imperial armor that fit the region. Legionnaires in Skyrim aren't foreign invaders, they're locally recruited soldiers. You combine dragon symbolism (the helmet) with nordic furs.

pretty sure thats not an ESO concept since its quite obviously Seyda Neen.

Personally i realy like the way stonefalls is done in ESO but i can agree with Hammerfell and High Rock save for Rivenspire which has a nice Alpine vibe to it.

The Zones from the provinces we havent been too: well youll gonna be disappointed one way or another. Auridon doesnt have insect wings and Black Marsh didnt have thousands of different kinds of argonians.

Its these places that were never truly meant to be visited.

However i feel that with the DLCs recently theyve gotten better.

Full disclosure i actually play the damn thing.

inb4 shill, but then again this isnt /v/

Gold Coast looks pretty much the same as it does in Oblivion just that they actually made it look mediteranean which as far as im concerned is an improvement over the way Oblivion made everything in Cyrod NotBritain

They also have fleshed out Minotaurs and made it clear that they are the offspring of Perrif and Morihaus (or Belharza more sepcifically) rather than "Remnants from when TES was a DnD campaign"

Hews bane was small but it was befitting for the thieves guild.
Personally i would have prefered them to be less Arabian about it but lets face it: No american company will ever base anything off of actual sub saharan culture.

Wrothgar imo was the best out of the bunch so far.
They actually included some bits from PGE1 including the "Shaggy centipedal herdbeast" pic related and went full out with the Trinimac thing.
They had some orcs worship trinimac and actually had a civil war between people thinking Trinimac is seperate from Malacath and those that remain faithfull to the daedric prince.

In general it looked like Mongolian Swizerland and i got no problem with that.

1) They were "created" on Tamriel, the Wandering Ehlnofey who followed Shor during the War of Manifest Metaphors. Depending on the myth this is because they were breathed to life by Kyne at the Throat. After the war (Convention) those who left for Atmora would return to become the Nords and those that stayed were the Nedes. Either way, the Nords have no creation myth.

2) Like the Ra'Gada the Atmorans could be remnants from another kalpa, the Return and the 500 being their Warrior Wave. Either way, the Nords have no creation myth.

The Atmoran's could shout, or at least references to the thu'um appear in songs of the Return.

Yeah, they were probably giant.

So I'm just starting a game set in High Rock roughly 15 years after the events of Skyrim. (No one knows really how much time passed because I'm saying a Dragon Break happened when Alduin was defeated)

I'm trying to create a sandbox for my players with only a vague main quest for them to follow that involves various competing factions wanting to kick the Thalmor out of High Rock, specifically the Direnni Tower.

I'm using UESRPG and my three players (Breton spellsword, Nord knight, and Altmer nightblade) rolled up Star Cursed signs and I'm thinking I can use that as a prophecy angle. Maybe no simply confined to the main story in High Rock because we all intend to go to different provinces.

I'm thinking in the future I'll have them go to Summerset or Thras and the Thalmor or the Sload will be the ultimate enemies. I've been thinking of using KINMUNE ("leading" the Thalmor) as the ultimate background villain but that's not a for sure thing.
>>
>>47710707
>KINMUNE ("leading" the Thalmor)
That's cool. It's suggested first that she went to go check out Tiber's Cyrod, then it was implied she was actually what's her name, the Altmer princess from ESO. Then something else? Kinmune's worn a lot of minds.

>>47710767
That's what I'm going to do, She might even have the mind imprint of Hjalti Early-Beard or Zurin Arctus stored in that robobrain somewhere? The way I've arraigned it in my head is that in the aftermath of the fall of the Second Dominion Queen Aryenn/KINMUNE "became" unwillingly the Stone for the Crystal Tower (there were others before her I guess?). During the Oblivion Crisis the Tower was knocked down which freed her. She promptly took over the nascent Thalmor organization and has been running it from the background ever since. (this probably doesn't fully make sense or sounds stupid, which is why I'm unsure I will use it)

BBEG KINMUNE's motivations have been hard for me to figure out. Does she want to go forward to return to her timeline's 9th era? Maybe she just wants to go back into space to mine rocks? I suppose if she's insane then there's probably no point in trying to figure out motive.
>>
>>47710924
Her motivation is not fresh in my mind outside of the original story.

Her goals must align with the Thalmor if she's leading them, that goal being the dissolution of the Mundus. Maybe a nascent mind imprinted on her is assuming direct control of the apparatus, if you catch my drift.

Otherwise, she might be better off as a "secret weapon" of the Thalmor, one that probably backfires.
>>
>>47709628
Well that's because timeskip.
>>
>>47711080
A yes, the secret weapon angle occurred to me too. The text KINMUNE says she wants to become more than just a puppet. Perhaps that's what the Thalmor have been using her as this whole time. Like a great magical supercomputer that can calculate almost any outcome for them. But she is powerful and her influence runs deep, and despite being a puppet now she will one day be the one controlling the strings.
>>47709589
I think traveling to Aetherius and kicking Alduin's ass is a reasonable cause for a Dragon Break.
>>
Why can't I equip a magical item from the quickslot menu in Morrowind?

Colovians are descended from Cyro-Nordic sea raiders who eventually settled to form their own nations. They idolize strength and martial prowess and therefore traditionally make up the bulk of Cyrodiils legions. They also tend to romanticize Nordic culture, viewing Skyrim as sort of the heart of human civilization, and therefore take up many Nordic practices including some of their religious traditions, especially the idea of Nordic hero-worship. They seem to be much more devoutly connected to their traditional pantheons than their Nibenese cousins, with this, and their fondness of independence, shielding them from the spread of the Alessian Order in the early first era. This also resulted in the foundation of their confederacy (the Colovian Estates) which lead to the more traditionally isolated Colovian cultures forming their own common Colovian identity.
The Nibenese are a Cyro-Nordic culture that grew out of the Nordic Empire's occupation of Nibenay in the early first era. Through trade, the region eventually grew to become so economically and culturally self-sufficient that they merely fell out of the hands of the Nords and became their own sovereign people. With the growth of the Alessian Order, religious laws forbidding certain forms of domestication saw to the growth of a promising merchant class which came to dominate the region. This and magical practices inherited from the Ayleids lead to the creation of the Nibenese mercantile-Magocracies which traditionally govern the region. The Nibenese people have prospered so much that they have become what many people see as the cultural heart of Cyrodiil. Above all the Nibenese uphold intellectualism as their greatest strength and many dedicate themselves to philosophical and theological pursuits. While this has lead to the development of myriad of varying religious cults and sects in which has become a staple of Nibenese culture, they do not view themselves as being particularly devout people.
>>
>>47713314
Equal if not more importance should be placed on the Alessian revolution of the Nedic tribes in addition to early Nordic influence when charting Nibenese history.
>>
>>47713439
It's hard to really type out everything when 4chan gives you 2000 character limit
But basically, the Colovians are of a more traditionally Nedic stock but like to think of themselves as Nords, while the Nibenese have a lot of Nordic blood in them but like to think of themselves as the last upholders of Nedic culture.
Both groups are actually quite separate from the original Cyrodiilic Nedes. Neither of the groups were even a thing until the Nords became another factor in Cyrodiil (which was during the Alessian Slave Revolt).
The Colovians themselves had actually displaced a lot of the indigenous Nedes when they settled in the West.
>>
>>47713271
You still need to cast the enchantment, it's no different than putting spells in there.
>>
>>47713664

Do it and the Dragon Break will immediately transform from an interesting subtly introduced concept into complete asspull that will remove the impact of every decision you make in future games.
>>
>>47714327
>future games.
well you cant keep using it every time, but in case of skyrim it makes sense, slapping Alduin and preventing him from ending a kalpa could send some serious ripples through reality
>>
>>47714327
Like others have said, you beat a literal aspect of Aka in Aetherius, and that is something that I would honestly be surprised to not see a Dragon Break from. I don't want them to become a regular thing, but it makes total sense for it to occur during the events of Skyrim.
>>
>>47715279
>>47714886
Nah.

They've used a dragon break to wrap up the multiple endings of a game once: the time it was created. Anything else would do what the poster above said.
>>
>>47714886
Not really, there was no "don't kill aldiun option" so the dragon break wouldn't fit.

Maybe something for the civil war, but I doubt it.

>>
>>47715530
I don't think that's the point. It's more the fact that the Dragonborn can simultaneously be a Nightinggale of Nocturnal, a Vampire Lord of Molag Bal, the Listener of the Dark Brotherhood, etc. A Dragon Break would explain best the situation at the end of Skyrim. In the post-TES5 universe there should be a lot of confusion over what the LDB actually did in life. The only thing for certain is that they killed Alduin, but some say he or she also assassinated the Emperor as leader of the DB, or fulfilled the Tyranny of the Sun prophecy as a Vampire Lord.

>>
>>47715856
You could say the same thing about Oblivion and Morrowind, and those didn't end in breaks. There's nothing in Skyrim that warrants one, especially not because of guilds.
>>
>>47716016
Morrowind is a valid point, but as far as Oblivion goes, the CoC becomes Sheogorath at the end and the MadGod is allowed to remember his origins a certain way one day and a different way the next.

Reposting from a few threads ago, though it's since been updated with another chapter.

Would /tgesg/ care to critique (especially for lore-related mistakes) the short story I'm working on?

It's as-of-yet incomplete (and will probably end up being around 80-90 pages long) tale detailing the voyage of the merchant vessel Breath-of-Kyne, captained by the titular Nibenese Sextus Severus Silanus and completely crewed by Khajiit, to Anvil on a seemingly normal (despite the all-Khaiit crew) trading enterprise.

Obviously, things don't go exactly according to plan.

Set in the Interregnum, it deals with racism and violence. It's inspired by Master and Commander as well as other nautical adventure novels, and is basically an adaptation The Tempest in TES.

I know it's 25 pages (and will only get longer) but if any especially Khajiit lore buffs wouldn't mind reading it I would appreciate it a shitton.
>>
>>47715992
this. putting the item on a hotkey equips the item, whereas finding the item's enchantment in the spells list would take another hotkey.

First and foremost because its a game that absolutely nobody wanted. Zenimax are fucking insane if they think an Elder Scrolls game can survive on PC without mods at this point. And MMOs are a deathtrap that should just die as a genre since the only people who still bother to play them will always end up going back to WoW every time without fail.

The screwed up thing is; if they just made a regular half-decent Elder Scrolls game that supported online co-op instead of a hacked up bastardized MMO it would probably sell better than a cure for cancer. People have literally been trying to mod that shit in for a fucking decade now.

Veiled behind his mask of snow,
Which dragons breathed of silver stone,
Calling dead from depths below,
The Crow Thane in his Hall of Bone.

Men thrown to the White Wyrm's maw,
Women, bairns of Winter's Hold,
Spoke he oaths to dragons' law,
Woke he lord of wights and mold.

Wails and tears the wine-wives pine,
For warriors left in blood to drown,
Comes the son of Ysgrim's line,
A young boy in a Jagged Crown.

Nordmen gathering to his calls,
Bearing spears and axes long,
Kin avenging ravaged halls,
Bold and desperate their throng.

Strong are the draugrs' monstrous blows,
Striking skulls of fyrd-men red,
Hundreds lost unto the snows,
Hundreds for the hungering dead.

Ascending arch of jokull-snow,
On sleigh of spruce by mammoth drawn,
Arrows broken on his brow,
No blow may pierce the Jagged Crown.

Charging men in freezing mail,
Ripping rotting flesh and bone,
Harsh the Crow Thane's cursing wail:
The White Wyrm shall break Ysgrim's Throne.
>>
>>47718002

Rending rebel heart and lung,
Of Crow Thane to his tomb hurled down,
Round his neck he wears the tongue,
The warrior of the Jagged Crown.

Feasting warms the ancient walls,
Of valiant men returning home,
The dead released to Sovngarde's halls,
No longer damned the white to roam.

Roaring sea of deathly hail,
Tearing at Old Windhelm's stone,
Falls the dragon's boasting wail:
The White Wyrm shall break Ysgrim's Throne.

Grey the Crow Thane's snowy veil,
By dragons forged of whispers lost,
Reshaped into a spear of pale,
By the Storm Voice, blood and frost.

White Wyrm's wings in shadowed flight,
Whispering death to lands beneath,
Halls and steads engulfed in night,
Armies shattered in his breath.

Maw unleashing razor snow,
Of dragons from the blue brought down,
Births the walking winter's woe,
The High King in his Jagged Crown.

Sharp the White Wyrm's howling song,
Splits the High King's bones and mail,
Breathing life through torc of tongue,
The spear of fate strikes dragon's scale.

By spear and shout, the dragon's pain,
Breaking scale with singing tone,
The White Wyrm at long last, now slain,
And it could not break Ysgrim's Throne.

By judgment born of war and woe,
The proudest clans and thanes kneel down,
To spear and tongue and breath of snow,
The High King in his Jagged Crown.

You'll be paying for mods for TES VI if they get their way. :^)

>>47716056

The thing with Oblivion proves that it can be done without a Dragon Break. I think you need multiple final endings with drastically different outcomes before a Dragon Break becomes necessary.

Kind of moot for me anyway though, because I'm 99% sure the next TES game is going to be a dumbed-down abomination.
>>
>>47717835
Tingling in the books, feels very good according to Skyrim Dialogue, considering each follower has a different response that's always positive.
>>
>>47718215

> 99% sure the next TES game is going to be a dumbed-down abomination.

But Trainwiz-senpai is working on it, right?

Still, Skyrim has higher Dragon Break potential, because Ysmir shows up, joins one of two warring factions and pulverizes the other, KILLS ALDUIN, and stops a crazy wizard from the Shezzarine dropout club from backdooring a localized Amaranth and turning the Skaal into extensions of himself.
>>
>>47718347

I'm going to ignore the reply chain here.

You can. When you click on a hockey in the bindings menu, you're given the option to chose from Items or Spells (if I remember right, might be Inventory/Magic or something).

If you select the item from the Items list, then hitting the hotkey will equip or unequip the item from your character as though you had dragged it onto your character in the inventory screen.

If you select the item from the Spells list, hitting the hotkey will make the item's enchantment your active spell. If the item is not equipped, it will be equipped to your character, replacing any previously equipped item in that slot. If the item is a ring, it will replace whichever ring was equipped first.
Pressing another hotkey will not unequip the enchanted item, unless the key is bound to a different enchanted item which occupies the same slot.

Similarly, if you bind a scroll to a hotkey from the Items list, pressing that key will cause you to read the scroll, bringing up the text popup.
If you bind it from the Spell list, the scroll will become your active spell.
>>
>>47722792
Neat.
>>
>>47723347
I highly doubt a monkey can swing a sword weighing a kilo effectively and without pain or error, much less a cat that has far less control or strength.
>>
>>47718215
>The thing with Oblivion proves that it can be done without a Dragon Break.
Oblivion only really worked because of the ambiguity of the Grey Cowl and the fact that the PC was not the most prominent figure in the plot. The history books naturally focused on Martin, and with the spotlight off the Champion it's easy to explain away everything with "The Cowl did it." Nobody remembers them because of the Cowl. Nobody's quite certain who ran any of the guilds at the time either because a) the PC joined every guild and the Cowl made people forget them, or b) the PC didn't join every guild, and between their unresolved plotlines and the chaos of the invasion affairs were confused and records incomplete.

The Cowl really amounts to a very tightly localized Dragon Break, in a lot of ways, including retconing the state of reality like with the Thieves Guild's Guildhall.
>>
>>47723362
Thank you.

>>47723432
A sharp and light dagger would be useful.
>>

But there's no guarantee that the cowl even enters the picture. That's the point. There's no wrong answer (character).

It's not assumed the PC did all the guilds.
>>
>>47723611
Maybe, but once again, cats and lizards don't have that much control over their tails, they exist more for balance and an extension of their spine than an actual usable appendage.

They'd always been talking about having Blacklight be the REAL capitol of Redoran, but that blatantly contradicts the in-game lore. It was clear to me that Archmaster Bolvyn Venim moved his capitol from Blacklight to Ald'Ruhn, and the reason why Blacklight is the capitol again in the Fourth Era is because Ald'Ruhn got wiped out by the eruption(being in the foothills of Red Mountain and all that).

Nords haven't respected that since the fall of Jhunal.

Maybe if you didn't spend your time drinking and hitting you head on rocks because uncle Sven dared you to, you would have enough braincells to rub together to figure it out.

Ysgramor was a real person, no doubt, but a lot of his legendary deeds were likely just that.
Also it wouldn't be beyond reason that Nordic fairytale land is likely to include Nordic fairytales.

What do we know about music in elder scrolls?

Only instruments I know are lutes, flutes and drums. Music was supposedly invented by Sheogorath. Skyrim has a bards college and a long history of poetry, the poetic edda, but the game didn't really touch on it that much. The bards college just had 1 draugr dungeon delving quest.

That's all I know.

I know we like to shit on Skyrim but there's a lot of lost potential, it's not all bad.

If dwemer armor was of higher quality and only craftable by doing the Unfathomable Depths quest, and daedric armor could only be acquired in specific locations (like in Morrowind, where you have to hunt down a whole set bit by bit) or through the atronach forge.
>>
>>47728259
its a shame music isnt explored more, given how a lot of OP stuff revolves around sound - thuum, tonal architecture, and if I am not wrong even swordsinging, having legendary bards that could fuck shit up with a song would be funny

This is what Altmer tell themselves when they're getting buttfucked by Trebbite Monks for not spending half an hour tying their shoes in the correct, ritualistic, traditional manner.

Goodall wrote a bit on the forums about Argonian and Khajiiti music.

Speaking of sound and water, Goodall wrote some forum posts a long time ago about his ideas for Khajiiti and Argonian music.
I'll repost something I've written before.

>"I thought they should use the marsh itself as their primary musical instrument like the Baka Forest People use rivers. And play lots of odd percussion instruments like water drums and bohdans and djimbes and udus. And make slowed-down bird-call noises."

Nothing ever seems to have come from the idea, but I like it quite a bit.
Here's some assorted inspiration:
Baka people water drumming:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7ba1CNOLiI

Then there's water drums, which come in a lot of different forms:
https://youtu.be/oun-u4myVUU?t=506

If "bohdan" is supposed to mean bodhrán, then that sounds like this:
https://youtu.be/dMI4X8OOMOg?t=10

The djembe, which is probably more well known:
https://youtu.be/W3tKFLafu3s?t=20

The Udu, an aeorphone:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpKo2YRKFYY

As for bird calls I don't fucking know. Go listen to some slowed down birds or something.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bj36koXYJLs

On the Khajiit there's less:
>"I wanted the Khajiit to be arrhythmic jazz musicians."

>>
>>47728750
You wouldn't? Besides, that stride makes sure they get anywhere just as fast anyways, so what's the issue?
>>
It's said the Bretons who are more proud of their elven ancestry worship Phynaster as well.

Does this mean some Bretons live longer lives through walking a certain way?
>>
>>47729782
Some probably do, but not all of them. I think I recall the source saying they also use more magic, so the would also have an effect, I suppose.

I'd imagine their Elven ancestry might even give them slightly longer lives anyways.

Comfiest province to least comfy.

Highrock > Skyrim > Cyrodil (post-retcon) = Summerset Isles > Morrowind = Elsweyr > Cyrodiil(pre-retcon) > Valenwood > Hammerfell = Blackmarsh
>>
>>47732624
Hammerfell isn't full of desert, but Valenwood is full of Bosmer.
Also, as much as I prefer jungles from a lore standpoint, Jungle Cyrodiil doesn't sound comfy at all.
Senchal in southern Elsweyr is also canonically comfy. Or at least it became comfy once it reached critical crime-mass.
>>
>>47728461

>>
>>47733212
*this
>>
>>47733212
Most of the hate is genuine, it's the people who like him who are memeing
>>
>>47733027
Hammerfell around the coast doesn't sound as bad, but the Redguard description in one of the games mentions that since it's so harsh and there's little water, that they developed a hardiness or something.
Valenwood sounds annoying to be in since it's like everything has a "Keep off of grass" sign on it. Bosmer women sound sort of comfy for a little while, though.

I actually love Elsweyr. The desserts and the deserts sound nice, especially since there doesn't seem to be any sort of lacking of water or food. Also, if you can keep you gold close by, Khajiit are cats, which is a huge plus.
>>
>>47733373
Most of the hate is more like the hate for Justin Bieber or Twilight, though, and is just "Relevant pop culture figure to make fun of and hate Number 4359".

Not good, but the hatred is a meme as well. The support and opposition for him is both based in memes with the exception of the most serious democrats and the most serious republicans.

>Hammerfell
Its not worse than Valenwood. You don't have to worry about being eaten by giant spiders, or the local elves cooking your friend into a stew, or drinking fermented rotted meat juice and falling out of a tree. Or your house getting trampled by said tree. Sure, there are deserts, but Valenwood is like Australia's forested step brother.
