Tooth and nail.
Have you ever seen an edh player resolve a Tooth and Nail and thought "Wow, well played, they deserved that win from nowhere"?

How do you call 9 mana "out of nowhere"

>>
>>47401736
9 mana is like turn 5-6 in edh. If you're playing with a group of 4 or more people, it's a bit difficult to kill all of them before that happens.
If you're playing EDH 1v1, you might as well play French.
>>
>>47401754

9 mana on turn 5-6 is only normal if you don't disrupt them at all, I try to destroy as many mana rocks as I can

Also I didn't mean that tooth and nail never wins the game I just wouldn't call it "out of nowhere", I start to suspect anybody is about to close out the game when they have 9 mana available

>>
>>47402714
That's a mana dork or rock on every turn. Hardly high power. The trouble is people not bolting the bird. Always bolt the bird!
>>
>>47402658
Yes, exactly those. They never keep lands in their hands, and cannot comprehend artifact ramp.
It's always surreal to me that some people think it's okay to have 20+ lands on the table on turn 5 and claim "I am not a threat, I have no board presence" in a loud voice. Same people usually are those who never pay for RStudy triggers because card advantage never matters, only the (nonland) permanents.
It's absolutely delicious to nuke lands after massive Boundless Realms.

I had a derevi player scoop to a Wave of Vitriol, since he had maximum of 3 basics in his deck. I know basics only produce one colour, but some people go out their way and have deck full of nonbasic lands and as few basics as possible. I'm actually running Ruination, WaveV and Back to Basics just for these kinds of retards. The one guy runs all 3 of the coliseums or whatever they are, the monocolored threshold sacland cycle in his Anafenza. He also lost to a T1 strip mine once.
>>
>>47403096
I love abusing terrible deckbuilding.

What's with the hate seriously? If you're getting mad over one card, you should stop playing monocolored decks. If one card is enough to make you lose the game every time, you really need to think about your deckbuilding. There's million things to remove her and ways to prevent her from coming to field.
You're like the people who fold to armageddon, as mentioned earlier in the thread.
>>
>>47404481
I have ways to deal with Iona dipshit. Iona is just played by faggots who then proceed to like their victory was well earned, armageddon is a literally who cares card. Just run enough dorks and rocks. But go ahead and keep making your assumptions buddy and trying to justify your faggy ways.

>>
>>47402658
When I started playing the format I thought Armageddon and MLD was "feelbad" but the more I play the more I see its importance. It's one of the only ways to combat strategies and have aggressive decks undermine control and ramp.

>>47401714
Tooth and Nail is hardly banworthy. Realistically you're building up to 9 mana and the fact no one has an answer is just a bad on your playgroup. Avenger + Choof is hardly the "instant table kill" if your board is rather weak. You can probably alpha strike 1-2 players but that's about it. It's better when you tutor for creature combos like Mike and Trike but still, 9 mana is 9 mana. If you just lose to your opponent sitting on nothing and just casting Tooth and Nail then it's your fault for your deck being totally uninteractive.
>>
>>47404481
I don't get mad, I just get bummed out. I have ways to remove her but I'm stuck until I get one of the ways to do so. The dream is to use Mindslaver on the Iona player's turn, then cast Scour from Existence to exile Iona forever

Monocolored is fun anyway

So I drafted Odric, Lunarch Marshall the other day. I'm not a commander player at all, but a few friends are and I was considering slapping together a budget deck ( less than $20 ) for him. Feasible for a monowhite commander deck?

I also have Jhoira tucked away somewhere, so she's another option, but my friends mostly play kitchen table commander, and nobody's deck is anything particularly special.

>>
>>47404769
Not true at all

How does somebody win with tooth and nail? They get an infinite combo made of two creatures

How do you stop such an infinite combo? You kill one or both of the creatures

Every color can do this
>>
>>47406389
Mana Crypt is preordering at $60 on SCG.

You were saying?
>>
>>47407507

Ephara has the absolute worst foil ever

Hardly any shiny parts
>>
>>47407507
No, but I like shiny cards overall, and rather get them than nonfoils. Of course all depends on the price and the art and all.
The foil commanders I have are Stoutarm, Vorel, Bladewing (ftv foil) and unfinished Tariel and Rith (both also ftv). I have nonfoil Hanna, Sedris, Wrexial, Skittles, Memnarch, Ghave and Gitfrog.
That being said, I would like judgefoil Hanna, foil Memnarch, Skittles and Ghave, if there was a foil for him.
>>
>>47407645
I think there are actually combos that win even if you try to kill one of the dudes.

And some colors do struggle with killing a dude, Green has Beast Within and some fight cards, but it is tough.
>>
>>47407692
But the parts that look shiny look great.
>Foil Keranos is $90
>>
>>47407692
which is a shame as I think she easily has some of the best artwork of the gods
>>
>>47407727

I've never seen a combo like that, unless you mean that they can answer your answer with another card and keep their combo going

In which case that's fine, somebody plays tooth and nail with enough back up to stop a whole table of answers they deserve to win
>>
>>47407810
Jared + Phyrexian Devourer or Rasputin Dreamweaver + Eldrazi Displaced can keep combing off in response to removal if they have mana. I'm sure there are some others.
>>
>>47407982

Remember we were talking about tooth and nail combos, it's different if they have a full mana pool when the combo comes out

The Jarad combo requires another 3 mana, but yeah that's true it can't be stopped by removal

Rasputin + eldrazi displacer also costs 3 extra mana and 6 extra if you want to respond to removal
>>
>>47408168
Rasputin gives you 2 activations from his counters when he enters. It's fine as a tooth and nail combo.
>>
Also there are other answers to tooth and nail combos besides counterspells and kill spells, there are also hate bears and enchantments
>>
>>47408220

Oh I gotcha yeah nvm that one makes sense

Need to have some preemptive plan to stop that one or they have infinite mana
>>
>>47408168
Also you said
>I've never seen a combo like that.
I was just letting you know some exist.
>>
>>47408226
Depends on the combo. Green has the hardest time dealing with it I believe. But true, a Rest in Peace or Samurai of the Pale Curtain is a nice elegant solution to the most common combo.

A scooze can do it, but there's not a lot of similar cards. Ground Seal is pretty bad in that it does not stop Mike/Trike and shuts down your regrowths.

Colorless graveyard hate is plenty, but there are nongraveyard based T&N combos. I dunno, I'm a turbo scrub so if someone casts T&N, I sometimes have an answer, sometimes don't, but either way I don't usually play a second game with them.
>>
>>47407692

I'd still be incredibly pissy and probably make you play it out. Of course, if someone has a swords or path, the game continues, but in my monogreen deck, my only answer to Avacyn at the moment is Duplicant, nothing instant speed.
>>

>>
>>47409690
People tend to get really salty over MLD, regardless of whether they think they can come back or not. Tends to lead to scoops in some groups.

>>
>>47409820
replaced it with Circular logic, more countermagic's always good
>>
>>47409773
Well, for example, I was playing with a new group on Saturday, and we were a little short on time, so when shit like 20 Angry Omnath tokens or Contamination+Bitterblossom happened, we all just scooped and got to play three games instead of one. You're definitely right about salty scooping, though.
>>
>>47409690
I mean, most of my decks probably can't handle it unless I get ignored. Though I've definitely had games where MLD happens and I eventually get my board state back because well, I'm no threat clearly.

Honestly, I am a super salty bitch about EDH. I don't scoop because A. Either they are playing a super fun deck with neat interactions that I want to see and have the deck builder show off a bit or B. They locked down the game and it is miserable, but if I keep playing, they'll see how miserable it is and maybe decide to change up their deck.

Again, turbo scrub. It has worked a few times though. People usually make their decks weaker after a few games in my playgroups without me having to enforce anything. I try to keep cool though, not be obnoxious about it. Different people like different types of MTG, which is fine.

once the great aurora resolves they have 10+ untapped lands in play and a hand of 10+ cards, at that point you'd have more trouble finding a hand of 10 cards that DOESNT win the game immediately

however i dont necessarily think the great aurora is an extremely powerful card i just think its one way, among many to capitalize on a ridiculous prossh board state

one very powerful aspect of the card is that it also fucks with everybody else's hands, and they likely arent token decks either so the overall number of cards they get is way lower, so the likelihood that they drew into enough control options and untapped lands is way less than the odds the prossh player drew into everything he needs

It's hilariously broken if used in conjunction with Undead Alchemist, a particularly fat zombie creature (say a 5/5) and Aqueous Form to ensure the damage goes through. I've had one attack go through for 7 and proceeded to deck 3 opponents at once from that loop, the mahoosive blob of zombies it spawns is helpful too

I'm specifically looking for targeted discard to clear the way before attempting to combo out or otherwise cast a big splashy game-winning spell. Sadistic Hypnotist might be able to get there but I'd rather get rid of problematic spells on the first try. It is on theme, though.

Alright fuckers here's my first draft at a Zirilan deck

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/dragon-cannon-3/

I could use some critiques. I'm not running a shitload of artifacts because my group actually tasked me with building something that doesn't have an artifact-centric strategy (last 3 decks have been artifacts)

What stays? What goes?
>>
>>47414799
You need so many more mana rocks than you currently run, anon, since dragons are hungry and like mana.

Dragons are also scary and eat removal a lot, and with that being the case, you need card draw that will get you more threats in hand, especially since Zirilian is going to die a lot.

To be especially tricky, I'd recommend
>Knollspine Dragon
>Wheel of fortune
>any number of little mana rocks
I know you said you don't want to run rocks, but having mana to cast your creatures is sure as fuck not "artifact centric," it's just playing fuckin EDH.
>cutting the shittier dragons
Honestly, stuff like Shivan Dragon is cute, but you just won't see a good moment to play him. He'll pale in comparison to your good dragons, and you're sure as fuck not digging him out with Zirilian.

Also, where the fuck is your Hellkite Tyrant?
>>

I have a foiled aboshan.

I've only had one foil curl on me, and it came in the mail curled. It was a dream fracture. Just double sleeve, as long as you don't live in Florida you'll be fine
>>
>>47415259
Oh believe me, it's not that I don't want to run rocks, it's just that my group is starting to hate seeing mono-brown on my side of the table because it kicks their ass. They barely run any themselves, and it's a low-power setting so there's not a ton of removal

That said, I do appreciate the input, I made some room for the stuff you suggested

WHITE- Me, I pilot Geist with equipment and some auras, the deck is mostly blue heavy and uses a lot of countermagic. People get pissy playing against me, but it's really easy to fuck him over with sac and wipes. Also have a Teysa which is getting scavenged for cards.

YELLOW- Hates blue, which I love, and builds his decks around that. I have some trouble against Uril, but otherwise a fairly solid opponent, the Ayli deck is very boring however with basic lifegain and stuff, does almost nothing but sit on a million hp. ZURGO SMASH.

ORANGE- Johnny: The Player. This guy changes decks, and uses all sorts of janky shit but he pulls it off most of the time. Has insane amounts of junk at home, probably more than he would ever need. His Karador is built as a reanimator, Bruna is just filled with strange auras and shit, almost no counterspells.

RED- The oldest player, his Kaalia is insanely expensive, fully foiled and basically a nightmare to play against. Very much the definition of a Spike player. The Merieke deck is the most boring piece of trash to ever exist you concede becase of the sheer lack of interaction. He's a good person at least.

PINK- Thrax.dec with a zombie subtheme. Good player, extremely unlucky however.

BLUE- The saltiest fucker to ever walk this earth, annoying to play against, spends ungodly amounts of money on cards to create some rogue decks which almost always under-perform and then complains about it. Never won against my Geist. His Nekusar is built on infect.

GREEN - Anafenza is basically good-stuff and tokens/counters, performs fairly well, the Jenara is subpar because its not finished.
>>
>>47407507
Yes, all my commanders are foil and I chose commanders exclusively on whether I can get them in foil or not.

I also have two near-complete foiled decks and one WIP foiling (got most of the expensive cards but now I need stupid shit like basic lands).
