Are there any guides on converting a on-foot character to a mounted one(Assuming I have the mount as a seperate model)?
>>
>>47284773
I saw this on normiebook, hi Robert :^)

Great conversion by the way.
>>
>>47284956
Step 1: Find some legs that fit onto your mount of choice.
Step 2: Cut character in half at the waist.

Hey Wip begginer here, i have some questions for you. I wanted to some modelling practice and got myself some cheap still packed kits from ebay, including a older? XV8 kit.

Now while doing moldlines i stumbled on these stupid holes seen on the right. Is there anyway i can get rid of these?

Also second question regarding to the left pic, is there some way to join the parts where the plastic parts meet? Fill the gaps so to say. I dont think its supposed to stay like this

The only thing i really did before were some pushfit SM, so actually building a model is totally newland for me
>>
>>47285026
Putty for both questions
Get some kneadetite or just normal countour putty, slap it in there, and then file or cut it down until only what you need is there.
>>
>>47284773

I'm not sure I like how Xbawks Hueg the scythe is. Other than that, I really like this. It's a far cry away from the official T-Rex arms Mortarion. Kudos.
>>
Alright, I need some advice. Stuck a plastic model to a plastic bases using superglue and accelerator spray. I need to remove the model to rebase it, but the fucking thing is stuck tight. I've tried sawing with a knife blade and using nail varnish remover, but it's no good, I can't get it off. Is there a way to do it without having to saw the base to pieces?
>>
>>47285165
pop it in the freezer. the cold will make the glue brittle.
>>
>>47285165
Pop the model in the freezer for 24 hours, then the model will come off the base with ease. However if the rest of the model is super glue'd it WILL need re-glueing.

Nowt wrong with the woman proposing. It's the 21st century, if a woman wants your dick for life she's entitled to ask for it.

It's decent tabletop quality I guess. Your highlights are super thick and sloppy though. And everything could probably use a wash or two.

Cool. What wash would you use for this? I've run over it with Drakenhovf a couple of times, but the issue is the whole model is ridiculously dark.

Any of you guys in the US are going to get Captain Centos?
Being in the UK, I guess I'll have to watch eBay for him.
>>
First time doing sackcloth or anything like that and I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out. That being said I'd like to pick out the stitching with a darker colour maybe. make it look a bit more visually busy. How do I go about this without fucking up what I've done already?

I was thinking a medium'd up wash of Agrax Earthshade over the stitch parts or just going over and picking out the darker browns with mournfang brown before highlighting those very slightly with a skrag brown. Which way would be best to you think? Got any better ideas?
>>
>>47285444

>>47286087
Without seeing the rest of your crew it's hard to say but I'd do the stitches in say red and purple to give some variance. Kind of pale so it looks like sinue perhaps.

The cloth looks nice though. Pitty the new stitched models are so plain.

>>

I go about 6 to 1 water to paint.

Base coats are usually a single pass, shade, followed by another coat of the base, followed by one layer of highlighting.

That's what you want. You apply like 5 or more layers of that and you can really control where the pigment ends up for your shading and highlights.
Then you wack a really fine edge highlight on there and it's nice.

Try it out over both a white and black undercoat and see the different applications.

I really don't see how any of the Dreamforge models or ornate or ecclesiary like, but I can see some brass or just painted on fluer de lis's helping bring that idea out.

Different Valkir-Sisters converter here. (or to-be converter, since I only have half the stuff I need)

Raging Heroes is a bit on the extreme end of sexualization for some people, as well as looking not quite right with other Sisters stuff. Their scale seems to be worse matchup than dreamforge as well.

Valkir are only a bit taller than space marines, but you have to consider the different posture. They stand pretty straight, while Marines have their power-squat. Valkir also have rather tall helmets.

Granted, I'm putting in more work into mine than just a head and weapon swap. I'm going to be offsetting the size some through some clever shaving of parts, which will help make them overall shorter as well as the valkir powerarmor look both more feminine. (compared to Marine armor) I'll also be using recasted sister parts for more authentic look, such has backpacks, helms, and maybe even pauldrons.(resculpted ones if the size isn't quite right) May also resculpt the chest armor.
>>
>>47287759
The backpacks are certainly a must. Post them when you are done, that sounds pretty rad.
>>
>>47287804
In theory, I could start now with the body shavedown modifications, but there are simply too many parts to keep track of and I don't want to organize them into a few dozen labeled baggies.

I'll have to be content with just staring at the sprues. Like, holy fuck their packaging is super efficient compared to GW. Think the orkboys box for size, but with 7 sprues stacked snugly but without threat to them breaking. (also their boxes are much higher quality, much sturdier cardboard. Sorry but it's such a thing that I wasn't expecting to be so impressed by)
>>
>>47285617

You're off to a good start, now you just need to give it some washes, neaten up and then highlight it!

This one just does not want to take a nice picture, might try again when the sun is up. And yeah, wrong sided shoulderpad.
>>
>>47287879
Yeah Dreamforge packaging is nice.

The little holes for the sprues to fit together is great, and a thing as simple as a plastic bag around makes it look so much more professional.
>>
>>47287900

Yeah, I'm the original guy that posted my Valkir conversions in this thread. The Raging Heroes ones look terrible in my opinion. I am a big fan of that fact that my conversions don't look super sexual...they look more like lightly armored Grey Knights or something...which is what I prefer. I used GK backpacks if you'll notice...except for the Sister Superiors those are BA sergeant ones I think.

I mean I like the general style of the GW Sisters, but the sculpts are pretty rough compared to what you can get nowadays. And I have no concerns over things like the size of their armor or looking a certain way compared to Space Marines.

My only suggestion for you, would be to darken the 'space-y' areas a little more. Inbetween the coloured parts try to darken them up, it'll give it more of a glowy/galaxy/space look and it'll break up the model a bit, as there's so much colour it's a little too crazy atm.

take my advice with a grain of salt though, you've clearly worked a lot on this model and it looks fan-fucking-tastic as is. i just feel like the darkening of the galaxy/space areas, while mainining the bright colours on it, will break the model up more and add a lot more interest to it overall

very good job though dude, still an easy 8/10 for the direction/execution alone

Obviously the shield is from an assault terminator and for the other hand. I cut the hand detailing off of that and a gun arm from some excess tacticals and then shaved the shoulder to get the shield a little bit farther from the body.

I feel like I've actually accomplished something. Go me.

How do I make nice Plague Weapons (or just generally really rusty, dirty weapons)?

I'm really unhappy with the boring steel and green gloop look I did on the Praetor, and Assault Sergeant.

I'm trying kabalite green, then bronze on the unwashed DG, but I don't know if that will look that good either.

Also on a side note, I just want to praise whoever made the Blight Kings kit. I have literally put a weapon, or shoulder accessory on 20 Death Guard, with spare bits from it. It is an absolute necessity for anything Nurgle related I've found.

Does anyone else use color pigments? I think they are pretty neat, though I havn't used them much

I do have an issue though, in that I have color pigments to imitate rust and such, but I also have Ryza Rust and Typhus Corrosion paints. So I dunno if I should mix and match the paints and pigments, or just stick to one or the other...

But adding some pigment to artificial water is a great way to make murky water for my swamp basing, also combing pigments+artifical water+sand+plaster makes perfect mud.
>>
>>47295323
I use pigments, typhus corrosion, and oil paints for weathering, depending on what's most useful at the time
>>
>>47295240

Practicing on green army men prepares you for painting...green army men.

It's best to just sacrifice one or two models from your first box or from eBay and practice on those.

Some basic techniques don't require any sort of specific model though, such as how to prime properly or how to do proper and thin basecoats and layers.
>>
>>47295323

You can mix them. I generally use Citadel's stuff if they have it, such as for rust or blood, simply because it's way more convenient compared to using powder or mixing your own blood.

For things they don't have, like soot stains, dirt, sand, I use powders. Coincidentally, from Secret Weapon. Gonna try some MIG later.
>>
>>47295380
That's what I am advocating - learning the paint consistency. I am not saying that Anon needs to paint the Sistine Chapel - just get comfortable with the paint.
>>
>>47295393
What you said "mixing your own blood" for a second I thought you were actually adding your blood to your models in place of blood paint.
>>
>>47295247
You could easily use GS for both the 1sided cast, and the material to be pressed into it, so long as you grease it up nice with vaseline.

I would use the InstantMold stuff in a LEGO frame and make a press (good for poor mans double sided casts too).
>>
>>47295323
First, you should google rust images. Save a ton and then go back through them. Stare at them.
Be at one with various types of oxidation in different types of environments.
Then try to replicate what you like and what is appropriate to the setting on a test piece of material and post back here with your reference photo so we can tear it up and you can reexamine what you have done and come back with a much better and well thought out rendition ;)

And yes, usually mixing the different techniques can result in something with a lot of depth and realism.

This looks really good. The blending doesn't pop much with the muted scheme but I think it looks better this way. It's still readily visible and the model isn't as garish.

The base, while thematically appropriate, unfortunately does not compliment the model visually/color theory-wise. I'm guessing something like a snow, ash, or green grass base would create more visual contrast. I like the current basing scheme for a themed army, but if it's a display piece or you want your army to catch viewers' eyes, you might want to try a different basing scheme.

Thanks for the feedback, Anon. I'm kinda starting to question the basing for my army now. I've previously received some negative criticisms about it on some of my other models. This guy isn't a display, btw.

I didn't have too much of a choice/knowledge of basing, or anything for that matter when I started last year. I just bought the Citadel painting starter set and Armageddon Dust was the texture paint that came with it, so I just used that as I didn't know any better and just wanted to get some models done. I've kinda just stuck with it for consistency, and it's a bit late to change now...pic related.
