/tg/ help me make chaos fun?
I've gotten to level eight with the IN easily. Orkz were a (violent ramming and dakka filled) breeze. Eldar are piss easy to dominate with and it's sorta fun being that OP.

Chaos though are flimsy and dull.

The only way I've found to do consistent damage is launch bays on everything, keep the enemy spotted and assault and/or bomb them to oblivion.

This seems to take forever and generally is fantastically dull after the other fleets. .

Wat do?

Also general chaos tactics appreciated
>>
>>47257719
Put Slaanesh on everything and laugh as entire fleet warp out after losing a single escort.
>>
>>47257719

Chaos is the sneakiest faction in the game. Use spotting/identification shenanigans to your advantage - entering silent running, then activating augur disruptors once the enemy enters your ability range. If you're able to get the jump on your foe at the start of the engagement, you'll be putting in a lot of damage before the enemy ships can strike back.

Also take probes/detectors to keep the enemy identified and to flush them out, if they try to use similar feats of stealth on you or try to shake off your bombers.

Take a look at the obstacles on the map.

Namely, the asteroid cities. Your ship covers about half of that, dwarfs it if it is battleship. Terminator squads are what..six men? 12 maybe?

12 Terminators going up against an asteroid cities worth of Orks. Or maybe 100 Stormtroopers if you didn't get the favor.

Think about that every time they pull it off.

>Is the Extra Turrets upgrade ever worth it?
IMO, it's just better to get a carrier for fighter coverage.

>What about Voss shields on Dauntlesses?
It's decent but it should be one of the last upgrade you should take for them since they don't have a lot of shield to begin with.
Additionnal shield, HP and AP ammo should be taken first, anything else is up to you.
>>
>>47266346
extra turrets is pretty good on escorts, since they don't have a lot in general, and you can bring multiple of them and cluster them for a maximum benefit

You don't need it on all of your ships, just some.

Also why not? Along with stasis bombs, Taunt and the indestructible button it's basically the best ability. You are commanding slow moving ships with fixed arc weaponry and you can get an ability that lets you teleport.
>>
>>47267265
This. Macro weapons shred Eldar, even when they're moving. Use this and novacannons at range. Use your bombs to limit his movement options, and focus fire on visible ships.

Whenever Blood Ravens use an assault action on an enemy ship, they can get a "gift" as a crit result. This inflicts a crit on a random weapon, and the Raven ship gains the destroyed weapon.
>>
/tg/, what skills should you put on a Dauntless? Other race's light cruisers are pretty easy to decide (boost for Orks, stasis and probes for Chaos, vaul-bullshit for Eldar), but I can't work out what my Dauntlesses want.

>>
>>47269802
Support stuff, like plasma bombs and stasis bombs. They're typically not the first ships to be taking hits so having those abilities can be important.
They are your fastest line ships, so having the skill that instantly refills your maneuver gauge could help too.

Can't find the picture, but here's the Lex' article on it.

http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/War_of_Dakka

"As the battle in the Farsight Enclaves escalated, Grog embarked on his most cunning plan yet. Utilizing the concept of "retreat", something nearly unheard of in Ork "Kultur, Grog managed to overextend the aggressive Tau hunter-killer teams and crush them in a bloody ambush. Pursuing the retreating Tau back to their base, the Orks looted and pillaged even more of the Tau's impressive arsenal and become an even greater threat. The tide of the war had turned decisively in the Orks' favour."

So yeah, the Tau do retreat. Given that this was after Farsight ordered an attack and they got ambushed, it stands to reason that this wasn't a neat and clean retreat.

Space Marine update is scheduled for June, and they posted a schedule on the steam forums on the 13th.
>>
>>47276426
its only been a couple of days since they last talked about what they'd do, dude.
>>
>>47276536
>schedule was posted on the 13th

It's already felt like an eternity.

Why would you remind me, anon?
>>
>>47276581
Because it is a good pain
>>
>>47276581
I just want to see the other Imperial ships added to the game.

Is that too much to ask?
>>
>>47276547
The problem is there's still a bunch of blatant, glaring bugs still present or newly introduced with the last patch.

Balance and expansion aside they game is still pretty outright broken. The lack of bugfixes this week made me pretty unhappy. Fortunately stellaris came out.

Unfortunately the total lack of weapon balance and non-functional war goal system is starting to get on my nerves with that one.
>>
>>47269357
Amen. I'm stuck on the campaign priority mission to plant beacon on warboss' ship via boarding.

My fleet gets 400 or 500 points. Orks have wall of battleshits and battlecruisers between me and the adm. Ship target.
>>
>>47278498
Fire ships though took out a kroozer and some escorts with a couple
>>
>>47269802
Lance upg. Tanking upg's. Then laugh as your D's murderise stasis bomb'd eldar like the faggy elfderps they are.

>from 15k away
>>
>>47278523
That's the mission before. That's a nirmal data acq. Which is still retardedly imbalanced. The next mission you have to get past 50 million points of ork bc's and bs's to get <3k from the admiral ship (spawned in the extreme corner of the map) and then force it to run away into the warp.
>>
>>47278605
Had problem with it too. I killed him several times before he get to escape. It's not hard to board him, it's hard not to kill him before he get to you.
Seriously, one time he died in asteroid field and other time he eat too much torpedoes before fight started and exploded sooner than my ship boarded him.
And you don't have to fight all his fleet, board him and damage him enough for him to escape that it. Victory.
>>
>>47269692
You fucking hit the red button, taunt and traktor them into your face, literally the same thing you do against any opponent as orks. You've got way more to worry about from carrier eldar than pulsar eldar.
>>
>>47278664
That's my point i cannot get past his 5:1 at least fleet to get to him. Fucker keeps spawning in the corner of the map whilst his fleets spawn inside my asshole. So <5mins in I'm board'd to crits.

Am I supposed to spend a gorrillion renown just to respec my fleet for this fight?
>>
>>47278699
And they still outspeed me.
>>
>>47278770
You don't have enough traktors.
>>
>>47278765
If you didn't go full ramming/torpedo maybe you should.
>>
>>47278778
1~3 at time. Is tractors on bigger ship pull harder?
>>
>>47278804
Fml.

I built my fleet to counter orks close range dickery, elderps and chaos' ranged dickery with ranged fighting.

My ships are 6-9k brawlers with plasma macros etc. Ordnance. Torps i got but orks seem to ignore torp spam and bomber /ass boat spam. Whereas my ships keep getting critt'd from ork tellyporta atttacks. As in the ai NEVER FAILS a rng roll. Ever.
>>
>>47278908
Belt armor son
>>
>>47278886
No they don't, but bigger ships have more skill slots, which allows you to have more taunt + induction cells + teleport.

Given how almost all ork ships have the same speed bigger = better for catching eldar because each ship has more tools available.
>>
>>47278920
I'll try that.
>>
>>47278924
Yeh, bigger also more expensive.
Seriously, in campaign when i hit lvl 6 admiral i had all slots and ships ungraded, maybe not all favors but whatever. In multiplayer i hit 6 and i have nothing, how so?
>>
>>47279033
In the campaign you win all mission with minimal to no losses. Not so in the mp, meaning you get less renown per xp.
>>
Last time i played assassination both of my ship were destroyed but in result screen they show up and heavily damaged instead, it's bug?
>>47279419
I thought renew is exp.
>>
>>47279524
That's a bug.

Not one I'm complaining about, mind you.
>>
>>47279757
Too bad, i wish ships some times survive. 2 turns is too much, and losing exp from match too.
>>
Which is better, the Dauntless Mk1 or Mk2? I really like the torps on the mk2, and can't really see why you'd pick a single lance over them.
>>
>>47278605
Full navigator dauntless with void shield over load.

Snag data, overload, warp out.
>>
>>47279899
I like both, and they each have a niche. I use the lance variant for pursuit and escort culling, since the lance gives it reliable medium range damage that doesn't require any fiddling or course adjustments, just burn and fire.
>>
>>47272683
i think i go with silver barrels even on the tiny point defence turrets, than a light wash and an allaround light light drybrush with purpel and maaaaaybe light pink highlights. want to keep the fade between purple/black
>>
>>47280405
Planning to tip the barrels with any different colors?

The purple sounds good, especially with the gold, maybe keep those colors close to contrast them, the pink I like the sound of. How do you plan on applying that, just here and there or some sort of specific pattern?
>>
>>47279033
Don't worry as orks once you get your 3 light cruisers all with Evil Sunz favors on them you'll be rolling imperial players so fast you'll have mad spacebux to spend.
>>
>>47280732
I got tractor beams on them.
>>
>>47272119
That white needs a few more layers. It's a bit faint, especially compared to the purple or gold.

Orky BCs are kind of crap for points. Zzap boats are neat, but they don't have the volume of fire to really melt shit and forgoe the orky advantage of being monstrously good at boarding and ramming. Still, having one helps. As does having one carrier for fighter cover. If you're a madboy, load a 6-bay battleship (which is the most launch bays on anything in the gorkdamn game) and giggle as your opponents go wot da zog.
>>
>>47281151
Well i have one half carrier, so i think im fine.
Was thinking to remove torpedo and make two 145 points battle-cruisers to use it for 300 point's. But that probably stupid idea.
I really have no idea what i need to do with battleship. But it's too early for that anyway.
>>
>>47281151
One thing to note is that an Ork carrier cruiser can have four bays, the same as Imperial and Chaos carrier battleships. Which is extremely handy for both fighter coverage and putting out a surprisingly meaty bomber sortie.

I will make a Deff Skwadron fleet for mp sometime this week and post progress if anyone's interested.
>>
>>47281216
Don't do half carriers. Either take a CL with two bays and torpedoes for that, or make a four bay CC if you want something more substantial. Going half and half creates a chaotic mess, which, while very Orky, is not that effective compared to a more focused design.
>>
>>47281234
Well it's done and i don't have spare renew to remake it.

>>
>>47281387
I worry about putting a nova on light carriers. You don't have any guns other than your torpedo tubes, so if/when the nova blows up you're down to just boarding and bombers.
>>
>>47281493
Don't, then. I'm keeping the boarding torpedoes to complement my boarding pods to complement my boarding actions. Running a carrier fleet doesn't necessitate unorky tactics.
>>
>>47281517
What favor would you recommend for an ork light carrier fleet then? Shock Attack Cannon for even more boarding and range? Or just traktor 'cos it's the best?
>>
>>47281615
They all have their merits.
Goffs because nobody fucking expects a carrier fleet to ram and board the everloving shit out of them.
Evil Sunz because it's the best.
Bad Moons because that upgrade might save your life and allows for shenanigans like asteroid shields.

It's all about options. Or just do what proper boyz do and have a motley collection of ships each doing their own thing.
>>
Are orks zap cannot always hit eldars?
>>
>>47281670

zaps are lances, and therefore shit against holofields
>>
>>47281670
Zzap cannons are lances. As such, homofields have full effect on them, up to 80% miss chance.
>>
>>47281678
>>47281682
Ok, no zap cannons then. How about heavy cannons on sides, are they good vs eldars?
>>
>>47281670
Eldar holofields (at maximum) reduce macro accuracy by 50% and Lances by 80%.

Since Ork macro accuracy goes 75% - 50% - 25% - 0%, this becomes 37.5% - 25% - 12.5% - 0%.
Whereas Zzaps go from 100% down to 20%

Don't use lances against Eldar ya git.
>>
>>47281694
If you can keep your slow, ponderous rustbuckets within 3 to 6 k of the most agile ships in the game and have the range upgrade, yes. Otherwise just load up on escorts or bring a carrier.
>>
>>47281741
Bombers don't suffer from halo shields?
>>
>>47281793
Nope, and neither do assault boats. A lot of elf player will have fighter cover, though, in the form of darkstar squadron.
>>
How do I use nova cannons properly? About half the time I fire one it scatters right off the target and hits nothing at all.
>>
>>47281862
Shot in direction they facing a bit before them, usually lands.
>>
>>47281482
Hammerfall isn't very orky, though. Unless it's WoW orcs.
>>
>>47281862
1) Fire them at close range. Like torpedoes, while they can work at long range, they're far better at the minimum distance. Generally you've got enough time while everyone advances to get one shot at long range and then one at minimum.
2) Stasis them first. Stasis pairs well with Nova and Micro-Warp: pin them with a stasis, warp backwards and fire into their faces. Best against a foe that likes closing in, like Orks and Imperials.
3) Fire lots of Novas at once. The Dominator is a fine cruiser, and two of them plus a Mars will let you annihilate escort waves with impunity. Three circles are harder to dodge than one.
>>
>>47282113
One nova cannon useless anyway, since it's only remove shield that will recharge at close time anyway. Well they good vs eldars, they don't have shields and it's actually does damage to them.
>>
>>47281694
I just bring two cruisers and a massive pile of onslaughts. The cruisers are just there to taunt and Traktor the eldar into the onslaughts.

Just finished the campaign and started a Chaos Fleet.

What's the best option to buy for my first cruiser ? My two light cruisers are fairly fragile and have quite a long range so I was thinking maybe a brawler to keep my opponent busy. What would be the best ship for the job ? Also, what equipment should I give him ?
>>
>>47284044

Carnage or Slaughter. Slaughter is riskier fast brawler while Carnage is safer and a good Eldar repellent.

Devastation and Murder are not worth it.
>>
>>47284101
Thanks, Carnage it is then.
>>
>>47284101
I agree the Murder isn't worth it, but for a all-carriers-all-the-time fleet I find a single Devastation is worth having.

Often you'll find a few points left over when selecting you're fleet, and those points can be either used to bring an escort (and Chaos ones aren't very good at all) or upgrade a Hellbringer to a Devastation. No loss in launch bays, but with a few nice lances on top and an extra skill slot for more stasis'ing or probes. That skill slot and damage is worth the slight loss in speed I find.
>>
>>47281835
not that it helps them that much

EVERY MINUTE NOT SPENT PLAYING MULTIPLAYER IS ANOTHER MINUTE IN WHICH YOUR OPPONENTS ARE LEVELLING UP THEIR SHIPS

PLAY MULTIPLAYER RIGHT NOW

DO NOT FALL INTO THE RENOWN CYCLE
>>
Quick question, what does the game count as "hidden"?, is it when you are a red blip or do you have to disappear off the map completely, like in a nebula or asteroid field?
>>
>>47287113
Silent running hides your blip.
>>
>>47287113
There are three states: Identified, Blip, and Hidden.

Passing into an enemies sensor range (or a probe, or Inquisition skill, ect) Identifies your ship. Most targeted abilities (lightning strike, Ork tracktors, etc) can only be shot at an identified ship. This overrides the other conditions.

Silent Running or being in a Nebula make you Hidden (you can also get it various other ways, such as staying still with the Aliatoc favor). A hidden ship does not appear on the map at all, and cannot be targeted by anything.

Anytime a ship stops being hidden, but isn't within Sensor Range of an enemy either, it becomes a Blip. Blips are visible on the map, but have no identifying features and can only be targeted by a few skills, though they can still be hit by everything that targets an area (ie Auger Disruptor).

None of this stops a player figuring out where you are from your strike-craft flight, or turrets shooting at torpedoes.

So what can we expect from the Space Marine fleet? Going by the light cruiser we see in the campaign, they have 75 armour all round, same shield, HP and speed, slightly faster turning speed, a macro battery, a macro turret and a launch bay. Seems better than a dauntless but maybe they'll cost more.

The Macro turret they get is a Bombardment Cannon. It's like the frontal massive gun Orks can swap torpedoes out for, but with a 270 arc. Huge damage, macro accuracy, short(ish) range.

I gave this a shot and it's working a lot better for me, thanks. I get the distinct impression that it's better to specialize your fleet instead of having one of everything. I had to restart my campaign because I spent too much time switching between ship types to try them out.

Other that maximum nova artillery and maximum carrier power what are some other themes I could try out? Is it viable to focus on macrocannons or maybe torpedoes+ramming?

Also what kind of light cruiser do you guys prefer for Imperials? The lance takes far less micromanagement to use than the torpedoes but at the same time the ship has most of it's power broadside and rarely uses it's lance most of the time.

By far most overpowered in campaign, since most of your enemy is chaos and eldars controlled by AI. Not so good but still viable in MP.
