Somebody in the last thread asked about 9th age and I'm also interested. Is there much of a following for it or Endhammer? Kings of War looks okay, but if these are actual alternatives that people are developing and have actual support, it'd be nice to have those as options.
>>
>>46935416
The 1.0 version of the 9th Age rules come out at the end of April. So far I've like what I've seen of the rules but haven't had a chance to play yet. Planning on running my Skaven army against some Dwarfs in a few weeks.
>>
>>46935416
Yes Age of Sigmar will soon have ruleset for competitive games and tourney's organisators support.

I have played 9th age a few times and it has the very happy distinction of FEELING LIKE Warhammer 8th, but with a lot less bullshit rules.
It's the game we love tinkered by people who care about making it fun and any army having options and builds capable of defeating any other army.
>>
>>46931162

Its still in production, the team is still balancing it against itself for maximum balance.
They're also going to do all the Forgeworld and old armies as well.

Everyone has a different opinion on the subject. Some people, myself included, prefer 9th, some people are on the KoW side.
9th has a direct parallel for every model, Kings has a long of things that work but some stuff has no Kings equivalent from Fantasy.

Suffice it to say Age of Sigmar is the only wrong answer if you want a Warhammer Fantasy ruleset.
>>
>>46935276
Same.

Also, remember to report all Age of Sigmar trolls.

le mat ward fais
kind of related, im having trouble figuring out what eternal guard are supposed to be
buffed up spearmen? but then with shields they cost only 3 points less than phoenix guard
and they cost 3 points more than high/dark elf spearmen so are they supposed to be the WE version of black/phoenix guard?
is the 12p cost justified with WS5, stubborn and armor piercing, since its just light armor+shield
also how do we improve forest spirits? 6+ scaly? up the ward to 5+ since you're going to get hit with S4+ anyway?

I actually have no idea what eternal guard are supposed to be either, the stubborn is pretty strong though.

The armor piercing spear is a nice touch but it seems like they were supposed to have more attacks or the developer took "wood elves don't stand and bang" to mean they shouldn't be capable of it.

2 ws5 S3 armor piercing attacks in a 5+ AS makes sense for 12 points in the wood elves list.

It's remarkable going through the 8th ed books and noticing how underworked so many of them are.
>>
>>46935416
v1.0 will probably include full-blown armybooks, like what they did for Undying Dynasties (!Tomb Kings) before. this will surely generate much attention.

balance is not worth blandness
my only peeve with 9th is that it REMOVED some of the special rules and random tables. I like fluffy stuff.

At least my Doomwheel can evaporate allied units again. I'm happy.
>>
>>46938920
enjoy your 4 hour long games, 3 of which are spent thumbing through half a dozen rulebooks.

In 9th you make a list and the books then tell you who has won. KOW comes down to actual tactics and maneuvering. Like an actual game!

I don't mind blandness when I can make every unit a diorama as a result.
>>
>>46934801
Any1 knows where can i find an old edition wood elves battalion? I lurked eBay and there aren't any
>>
>>46939264
I like long games.
You know, when I used to play WoW, I simply adored long, windy dungeons. Blackrock Depths could take hours and I loved every minute. Dungeons even weren't linear.
Then came later expansion with streamlined dungeons and people running them at top speed. I quit.

I play to invest my time and emotions. I'm in no hurry. Throwing dice is just one of the facets. "Game" is just a part of the "hobby". Not the most important too.
>>
>>46939300
You literally missed the whole point.

L2Read it's not about the time it takes, it's about how enjoyable it is.

>>
>>46939491
yes. I tried KoW, it is enjoyable the first couple of games, but after that, since there's barely a handful of special rules to make units distinct, you feel like you playing chess, but without class that comes with chess. everything is so much the same.
plus the battles are too quick. doesn't feel epic, even though dozens of dice fly.

Has there ever been a novel featuring Karl Franz ?
If not, what are some good reads about the Undead, especially about pic related ?

>>
>>46940788
There's no real need to connect them: Whatever you want to explain with the affinity to sigmar you can explain with the affinity to the comet or the same role as bane of chaos and beastmen(skaven too)

It's not difficult to imagine each one believing their own god has blessed the other regardless of whether it is actually true or the 2 are the same entity.
Lizardmen can be pretty bro as long as you give them reasons for not being an enemy and the comet is one.
>>
Do you guys feel it's in the spirit of the dawi to not kill a dragon but instead constricting it in heavy chains, plates, runes and machineries as punishment for ancient grudges?
Things like a great drake from the times of the war of the beard with its wings torn off and a really oppressive collar and mask controlling its movement and ability to breath fire, or the firstborn of a borrowing dragon that devastated dwarfen hold at the time of the ancestors still serving to empower a forge?

No riding dwarf of course, a statue of an ancestor detailing the grudge on a plaque at best.

Book 2 and 3 spend way too much time on Neferata though.

It's the series that really establishes Arkhan as probably the best fantasy character written.

They removed random whenever possible, true. I do not think they made the game less fluffy though.

Take a look at what they've done to Beasts for example. The whole list has a theme/style, that can clearly be seen in the (special) rules even without an illustrated army book.

But the existance of Lizardmen make them piss themselves.
>>
>>46945913
>hivemind of the Slann
Replace slann with skinks; slann had nothing to do with sotek and were particularly dubious whether it was a good or a bad sign for the lizardmen to spawn and worship a warp entity born from their own crude emotions, only after a physical meeting of all the slann with tehenahuin and monitoring of the god's possible activity outside their will the slann left the cult of sotek to grow; the only slann who is said to secretly welcome with open arms this god of vengeance was kroak, thousands of years before the god spawned or the prophecy was even discovered, but the frog was first spawning and probably got to see the great plan in its entirety.

Let's not forget the big green Marvel character Hulk, the raging but sometimes intelligent hero and when he turned gray he became intelligent and sometimes raging.

not into Aos but.. i have to admit that i know why the Megaboss, Shaman and brutes went Out of Stock...

Want to buy them for 9th but they are just so huge.. maybe using them as filler ? i don't know.
>>
>>46947569
It'd be interesting for Black Orcs.

I can't really imagine it useful for anything but filler though. Its too big to be anything except maybe a Squig model if some kind? Or like the stats of a Snotling Pump Wagon, stats of a berserking mentall deficient Orc.
>>
>>46947569
They are pretty nice models indeed, especially that sweet, sweet shaman.
But I believe the out of stock was caused more by good models (with potential for 40k conversions too) meeting GW stocks that probably got lowered after the first limited editions (and probably models too considering how none of them got on the best selling list) didn't sell enough to justify fast pace of production and restock.
But mine are only assumptions.

Anyway, if the squares in front of them are 25mm you could either count them as 2 or 3 models (it would be sorta like having orcs with 3 wounds).
The warboss merits his own scenic base, screw adherence to a base size.

>screw adherence to a base size.

Not a good philosophy, you cheat your opponent on base contact rules.

Better idea is put them on a rock or something where the top is larger than the part glued to the base, so the base is proper size and they still look impressive.

I wouldn't allow it otherwise.
>>
>>46948211
For all intents and purposes it is always more convenient to have a smaller size for the base, getting a bigger one shouldn't be as discouraged.

The tall rock trick rarely works out well inside units and often ruins the bulk the model would show by being at the same level of his buddies.
>>
>>46948318
The problem is unless you use it as unit filler, large bases change the most important part of the game.

Irregular bases should NEVER be used, and unit filler is exactly just that; filler. Bigg'un is just a visual representation of 4-9 Orcs, and cannot be a command model nor the last man standing.

It is Warhammer, Warhammer 1e-3e didn't have models for most of the game and the rulebook outright encouraged buying proxies. Not only that, but 4e still encouraged people to mix and match their army as did White Dwarf.

So literally any model you want to use in Warhammer is indeed Warhammer, as stated quite plainly in literally half of the history of the game. Don'tcha know.

Repanse de Lyonesse was a Bretonnian Paladin and the duchess of Lyonesse. She was known as the "Damoiselle de Guerre"
.
She was born in 1990 IC and grew up as a humble shepherdess in Lyonesse. In 2007 IC, Chaos raiders invaded, slayed king Louis the Brave and burned the seventeen-year old Repanses village to the ground. The Lady of the Lake in a vision, telling her to get rid of the invading forces. The Lady led Repanse to the village grail chapel where Repanse took up an ancient sword and a tapestry with the Fleur de Lys from the wall to use as banner.

Repanse rallied the scattered knights of the land and led an army to the besieged city of Couronne. Her army defeated the Chaos forces and she personally slew the Chaos Lord. After the battle, she was knighted by king Louis the Young and was made the duchess of Lyonesse.
>>
>>46962902
Basically the Lady gave her visions and she went out and become a paladin, and later a duchess.

Also, in general, the Bretonnians have a level of respect for their women, especially since their magic users are all female.

One of the questions I had relating it was the purpose of the trade skill. It seems to lack any rules to decide how well someone forge or perform their trade. Does the gm pretty much decide how much time it'll take, the quality, and the like when using that skill?

Still, there is a point in that Warhammer suffers from relative obscurity. It hasn't even gotten the limited videogame attention that 40k has in the past, so unless you've actually played Warhammer Fantasy you probably don't know what it is.

Sienna=OOP Bright Wizard. File the mustache off, and give her boobs out of greenstuff.

Kerillian=OOP female Waywatcher.

Markus=Empire Greatsword

Victor=Reaper Miniatures Grave Digger. Cut off the bottom of the shovel, shave it to a point to be a rapier.

Bardin=Reaper Miniatures Harsk or Brock. Either way, file his head until he's balding.

GW said that AoS new ruleset will be supported by all big tournaments, so I assume it's including ETC, which mean 9th Age will lost their support.
