Tell me about the strangest things your characters have ever cooked, /pfg/!

Run out of chicken and substituted frogs? Made dumplings with mosquito-paste filling? Fermented owlbear milk used to make a cream icing for a pastry?

Hey /pfg/, I have a Clerical question.

Has anyone here had any experience with Variant Channeling, or have at lease either used or gone over it? What are your thoughts on it, and is it worth it for only 1/2 heal/damage? Or is it essentially pic related?

One's a bloody tiefling snowflake who got visited by a devil when she was 10.

The other isn't enough of a patriot for the tone of campaign I'm going for.

The blaster is a blaster and is going to have a miserable time because she's a blaster among PoW characters. She's not even an Opped blaster, just Admixture.

A Warder or other reachtank using reach polearms can use the Cirque benefit to ignore folks getting inside his reach by bouncing his spear off their skull with Piercing Thunder's throwing attacks at point blank range.

I love making enemies with a gimmick. However when I do this players always seem to get wrecked by it. By gimmick I mean enemies who have something they are good at, and when engaging the party they try and engage them on terms that play to their gimmick.

At first I was going to say this wouldn't work because of Scarlet Throne Style, but then I looked at the description of that feat again and it says the weapon simply needs to be one-handed, not a one-handed weapon.

You can totally Scarlet Throne Style a spear for that delicious 20 foot AoO and 15 foot attack radius.

Only problem is you gotta stay in that stance, otherwise it doesn't work.

Wait, really? Superior Reach adds +5 feet to all attacks, but Defensive Reach only gives you +5 feet to AoOs.

If a spear is a weapon with 10 foot reach, this means 15 feet standard attack and 20 feet AoO.

Some of them are good, most of them are awful. Get Selective Channeling, or whatever the feat is that lets you exclude specific targets from your channel, and then you could spam Rulership, Luck, or Freedom Harm Channels seems like the best choices. In any case though, you'll need to pump that save high because none of these effects apply on a successful save. You'll probably want to take Ability Focus (Channeling).

No, I meant Ability Focus, but luckily for you, they stack with each other. At that point though, you're three feats in, so it's a lot of build currency invested.

Probably worth it for being able to do something like potentially daze or slow all enemies next to you while also dealing some minor damage, though.

She's like one of those junior high/high school kids who acts all cool and mysterious and walks around wearing a trenchcoat or an eyepatch... except she actually does have super-powerful Explosion spells that can OHKO anything but high-level boss monsters.

But she's actually low-level and somehow got access to the spell just from having high base stats, so she can only use Explosion once per day and immediately collapses afterwards.

No, because Zyphus's whole thing is that he's a petty jerk who doesn't actually care about people, rather he just wants everyone else to be just as miserable as him.

He's the Deific equivalent to salty spergs who turn off their LAN connection or destroy their game consoles when they are losing, followed by shouting "YOU DIDN'T WIN!". Or like people who will destroy or deface a car or piece of property because they can't have it.

It's good for light entertainment. It's sort of like Slayers, aka "D&D as people actually play it" rather than "D&D as people imagine it", except with even less plot.

For example, the first episode includes a montage where the main character gets a part-time job as a construction worker, and then afterwards he goes "wait a minute! We were supposed to be adventuring and fighting monsters, why did we start working here?"

Unless it specifically says otherwise, any part of any discipline works with any weapon. Favored weapons are used by some feats and class features, iirc, but that's it.

Oh, that's what you mean. Yes, but it's GM discretion.

"Ineffective Weapons

Certain weapons just can't effectively deal damage to certain objects. For example, a bludgeoning weapon cannot be used to damage a rope. Likewise, most melee weapons have little effect on stone walls and doors, unless they are designed for breaking up stone, such as a pick or hammer."

>>

>Likewise, most melee weapons have little effect on stone walls and doors, unless they are designed for breaking up stone, such as a pick or hammer."

Would it be safe to say that an axe could be used against a wooden door but useless against a stone wall, while a pick would be useful against a stone wall but not a wooden door?

What if they were made from Adamantine?
>>
>>46493185
A pick would work fine against a wood door, wood splinters easily and you'd rip chunks out pulling the pick out of the door. But yeah, an axe wouldn't do much against a stone wall, even if it were adamantine. Problem is even a thin wall is 1 foot thick and a hewn stone wall is 3 feet thick. You need a pick or bludgeon to make an effective dent in that sort of thing.

Or a long adamantine blade that can cut all the way through the wall and make an opening, which an axe can't readily do.

>>
>>46493285
Wait, you had half the party members at the same level? Of course you're fucked.
>>
>>46493265
Adamantine, it totally would.

Adamantine ignores hardness less than 20. Anything under that, it mechanically cuts through like paper.

That's not saying that an adamantine club would work on a rope, but an adamanting axe would totally hack apart a stone wall.

Basically this is why it's DM discretion
>>
>>46493285
I suppose that might be alright if you viewed it as an 'AP: Hard Mode' game. If that wasn't intended, then yeah that sucks.
>>
>>46493326
Ok let me explain: Stone wall is thicker than the axe

Axe cuts through part of stone wall

Nothing happens because a cut that doesn't go all the way through is insignificant

It's not a matter of whether or not you can cut it, it's a matter of the cut not doing anything.
>>
>>46493405
And then you cut again at a different angle and the chunk falls out eventually. You still have to do enough damage to destroy the section of the wall.
>>

She write the first adventure, where you start in a cave ad then get a flashback of how you get there. You also meet the the trans-lesbian married couple who sold the paladin's demon slaying sword so one of them could become a real women.
>>
>>46494552
You're blind as fuck then lmao, people complain about shoehorned tranny lesbians in Book 1 all the time

>>46494594
Ultimate Magic introduced the "new" descriptors. Check there.
>>
>>46494614
UM doesn't say that emotion is mind-affecting.
>>
>>46494614
Oh, right, I also heard a complaint about trading away a sword for a potion. Though I've seen any gay or transgendered character is seen as shoehorned in.
>>
>>46494551
Giant toads
Flying cabbages
>>
>>46494551
Gremlins and weasels.
>>
>>46494684
That's because Paizo doesn't know how to actually write good gay or trans characters and always shoehorns them in.

I don't know why, they can do it. Back in Dragon magazine, some guy write an awesome Greyhawk article about the guild leader of the Beggar's Guild whose lover had been killed by the Thieves Guild and was now waging a bloody street war against them in the shadows.

That fat fag was a bad ass.
>>
>>46494684
Yeah. A paladin who had sworn to fight demons in the Worldwound, where demons are invading Golarion, decided to fucking sell her evil-outsider-bane sword to buy a sex change. Holy fucking shit. Sure, it's a nice gesture, but it's painfully retarded and an abandonment of her duty as a paladin.

The sword isn't the special super-magic one people conflate it with, but it's still useful against evil outsiders.
>>
>>46494714
I hardly ever hear complaints about shoddily written straight characters. People just want to bitch about Paizo being SJWs when there are plenty of valid reasons to complain about them.
>>
>>46494728
Paladins aren't just about fighting evil, but also for spreading law and good. It's not out of the question for a paladin to give up their items to help those in need.
>>
>>46494765
In the fucking Worldwound, you stupid cuck? Where THE DEMONS ARE INVADING ALL THE TIME? Sure, let me, a holy warrior, just get rid of my demon-killing sword!!!! It's not even an expensive potion, you can afford it with the loot from one fucking adventure!
>>
>>46494737
That's because those straight characters actually have to have details and background beyond their orientation to have any depth. Paizo slaps a label on the gay or trans characters and thinks that's enough.

There have been plenty of boring or lame straight characters in Paizo history. Ameiko, Shensen, Barney Thrune, The Storm Tyrant, all of the caravan members from Jade Regent, every Elf in Second Darkness, everyone not gay/trans from Kintargo.

Even so, dereliction of duty is a Chaotic act, and willingly handicapping oneself, and thus one's team, for the sake of something irrelevant to the mission is tantamount to treason.

The Crusade cannot succeed without the grit, determination, and teamwork of all of its members. Sacrifices must be made for the sake of excising the demon scourge from Golarion.

Happiness comes second to the survival of humanity and the fight against Evil.
>>
>>46494815
Was it dereliction of duty? Did the paladin give up fighting, or did they just give up one of their weapons?
>>
>>46494804
>Bazzy Thune
>the guy who wants to become a country and very nearly does it
>boring

We seem to have different definitions of "boring." Is he a bit Saturday-Morning-Cartoon? Yes. But "boring" is a word I'd hesitate to use.
>>
>>46494804
>There have been plenty of boring or lame straight characters in Paizo history.
And we rarely see complaints about those characters, it always go back to the gay/transgendered characters.
>>
>>46494789
They even sell it to a merchant who turned out to be a demonic plant!

They didn't even sell it to a fellow Paladin or Crusader, just some random schmuck on the street! People use that shit for scrying, you know!
>>
>>46494728
I mean, a Paladin with a magic sword that commits suicide because of dysphoria isn't any help to anyone, while a Paladin without a magic sword who's no longer suicidal can at least still try to help.

I mean, I'm not familiar with the adventure, so I'm not sure what the specific story is, but there are definitely ways it can make sense.
>>
>>46494846
Well, nobody complains about the taste of unsweetened green tea when they've got unsweetened green tea dyed neon purple to complain about in the same batch.

One is just boring. The other is boring AND calls undeserved attention to itself via a superficial marker deliberately selected for being 'outside the norm.'

In other words, it's the same reason anons complain about tripcodes.
>>
>>46494886
The paladin isn't the one with dysphoria. A man fell in love with her, but she was gay so he became a woman to be accepted.

There are ways it could make sense, sure, but Paizo isn't competent enough to use any of them.

Plus >>46494880. Overall, the problem is that the paladin was reckless and careless with her duties and weapons, and ended up fucking herself over because she didn't take her job seriously enough.
>>
>>46494886
The paladin's not the one who wanted the potion, it was her at-the-time boyfriend (a scout and trapper) who had long since felt like he was better off as a woman. The paladin, loving her partner, sold her sword for the potion.

Still, it's kind of a dumb thing to not just, you know. Go on a quick pillaging of goblins or something?
>>
>>46494839
I'm not saying that Bazzy wasn't fabulous in theory, but he my love of his shenanigans was smothered by how much of a pussy they made him out to be in the final adventure when they started trotting out all the reasons you should feel sorry for him and make him into a pathetic wooby to kick around.

His plans were great, but he never lived up to them in the adventures. He's more comic relief than a worthy antagonist.

This is the guy who thinks it's a good idea to keep poking the bear when all he has to do to win everything is just die of old age.
>>
>>46494907
So literally they're worse because they're not straight. Gotcha.
>>
>>46494924
You're not wrong.

And to think the character I'm playing in the Hungry Are The Dead module works for the guy.
>>
>>46494839
>a bit

Did you see what they thought was "horrible" about the tortures in Hell for him? He's laughably cartoonish. The sheer fact that his nickname is Bazzy should say exactly how amusing it is.
>>
>>46494914
Ah, okay. Then yeah, that's pretty fucking stupid. Put off the romance shit until the demon shit's been handled.
>>
>>46494923
I don't even think Irabeth is actually a lesbian, since they fell in love before Anevia becomes a women.

Either Irabeth is bi, like everyone else seems to be in Golarion, or is super open to long term experimentation.
>>
>>46494932
If orientation, rather than the use of it as a neon strobe light, were the issue, tripfriends would be widely accepted throughout 4chan.

Really, folks 'round here just don't like things callin' attention to themselves. Nobody wants to be approached - they want to approach things they find interesting.

It's a tad antisocial an outlook, but since when did anyone care whether I thought that?
>>
>>46494940
In the adventure, she runs around with a Masterwork Longsword.

She literally downgraded her weapon in the middle of the Worldwound so her boyfriend could become a girl.
>mfw if I run WoTR ever, Anevia will be a Succubus playing the long game
>>
>>46494970
I think the writer separates romantic and sexual orientation.
