Just sharing a little help from a kind /wip/ anon for Alpha Legionnaires.
Metal is layered up to runefang steel, second is two layers of guilliman blue, third is waywatcher green layer, and fourth is one final layer of guilliman blue and then details. Takes a while but pretty easy.

I can't imagine a whole lot that can take Horus and 2000pts of Justaerin in a straight fight. Black Reaving gets them Deep Strike while you're at it, and every single one of them can be a W2 BS5 Plasma Termie that happens to beat face as well.
You can get like 40 of them I reckon.
> Typhon's need not apply

Also Siege Terminator Missilestorm confirmed as still working.
>>
>>46374003
>I mean why are they both fortress destroyers and builders? Why not make one the big house builder and the other the destroyer?
That's what they are, Perty is the breaker and Dorn is the builder. Turns out the skillsets overlap, if you're good at destroying fortifications you have to understand how to best set them up and vice versa.
>>

>gives a USR to one unit

>Alpharius makes all LA reroll 1's to hit and 1's to wound for all units and all weapons. Also buffs his own unit a bit.

Ehhh, Roboutes no joke but Alpharius just gets better and better the more marines are on the table since it effects literally everything. It scales really well. I'm not really saying Alpharius is better in general, just that as far as army buffs he might edge out Rowboat just a touch.
>>
Is there any reason not to field a leviathan with two assault cannons, two leviathan storm cannons and phosphex dischargers? Truly this is a warmachine blessed by Sanguinius himself.
>>
>>46374216
Implacable Advance on units that have no business doing scenario play is a big deal though.

But it could be I'm overstating it, I'm currently coming from a background of skirmish games where objectives are all important.

Guys, i always loved AL with scaled armour, but i never see people suggesting it when talking about paint schemes, only glazed metal and blue highlighted with green. Would scales be unfluffy? When did AL start having them?
>>
>>46374554

AL can be painted very ultramarine like. And not in the haha meme way, I mean they can be bright blue and silver with plenty of Roman iconography and they can play similarly.
>>
>>46374714

AL specific torsos have scales as do their special characters. It's just not usually on their regular marines but it can be.

Anyway those scales look great starting from blue and being highlighted green. Really plays with the color scheme well.

People talk about the metallic turquoise a lot because it's their pre heresy color scheme in the FW HH books. They can be pretty much any combination of blue/ green, silver and actually reddish purple
>>
so if Peterabo is the anti Dorn

Curze is the anti Corax

Angron is the anti Russ (in terms of personality and tactics, not arch rival)

Who is the anti Guilliman? Lorgar? Fulgrim? Alpharius?

Yeah painting scales, is tiring, but i really love how they look, i asked because the fact none mentioned it made me think they were some lind of mutation(though thinking about it AL weren't mutated because they didn't go to the Eye). I will probably try painting scales on everybody, thanks

>>

>scaled armour
>i never see people suggesting it when talking about paint schemes

That's because it's a decision you make during the modeling phase. By the time it's time to paint, you either have scales or don't. I've never seen anyone try to paint scales on a model that didn't have them molded on.

But yes, feel free to use them.

>>46374800
I actually like the metallic dark blue (with just a hint of green splotches) that FW has used in most of its books.
>>
>>46374935
For his opposite, Alpharius. Continuing the "evil counterparts" theme from your examples, Lorgar. Both had the big, regimented, by-the-book Legions. It's just that Lorgar's book was his reproduction of the Necronomicon.
>>
>>46374944

Well there are some examples of armor with painted on scales in the books, it's totally cool.

>>46375155

So is Alpharius his own evil twin?

...wait that makes too much sense...
>>
>>46374935
Horus would be a good one.

Different flavor of conqueror, more focused on personal achievement and warrior skills as opposed to straight organization. It shows in their legions.

Alpharius and Lorgar don't really care about building empires/kingdoms, which makes it hard to compare them in the same way.
>>
>>46375109
They had painted scales in 4th ed codex( i don't know about the others since i only possess this one) and there are some examples if you google. It isn't that strange of a thing
>>
Would traitors have mutations closer to the end of the war, or would it only be word bearers?
>>
>>46375242

Good point, I thought Lorgar wanted a chaos empire though
>>
>>46375525
by the siege? They'd all have some mutants. Remember the Death Guard were turned into plague marines on the way there.
>>
>>46375599
True true, I was just curious as how far mutated they would be.
>>
>>46375630
Some heavily mutated, some slightly, some relatively untouched. Legions are big, after all.

In older fluff when horus died, some of the traitors switched sides again to try and atone a little, because they were being mentally dominated by chaos.
>>
>>46375630
think it wholly depends on the legion in question,

stull like Death guard and EC, most definitely have quite clearly mutated, but more "secular" legions like IW, AL and NL would have almost none
>>
>>46375525
>>46375630

Yeah there are definitely mutants by then, Angrons a full blown prince by then, the Lupercal are meat puppet possessed CSMs, the iron warriors are about as mutated as they'll get and Earth gets turned into essentially a daemon world outside the palace during the siege.

Iron warriors would not be mutated, they despise chaos and to this day they still replace their mutated parts with mechanical prosthetics.
>>
>>46374935
If it's tactics then Alpharius, if it's personality Angron or Lorgar
>>
>>46375725
Iron Warriors are known to replace mutated parts with bionics. And then there's Obliterators too.

Alpha Legion ok, they like to blend in. But rest assured there's plenty of internal mutation and they put all the seriously mutated guys in special assault/terror squads.

Night Lords would relish looking more nightmarish.
>>

In military strategy against an unfortified position (so hiding behind any random crap) that is the minimum suggest numerical superiority. Against an actual fortified position, 5 to 1 is the bare minimum, 10 to 1 is preferred. Simply put had Horus actually managed to win at Terra it would have been an epic fucking victory, especially considering how well fortified it was.

Void shields and generally you dont want nuke resources or critical locations you might want to use.

Planetary defenses can range from light air defense to anti capital batteries and void shields that cover cities with support generators to ensure they they will never critically fail.

It makes attacks require planetary assaults to break those shields at the source if you want to take the planet. Or you can resort to exterminatus, which is bad if you still want the planet when you're done.

Void shields and equally powerful weaponry on the other end - i.e. anti-ship defenses forcing you to keep your fleet across the horizon, so you have to deploy in another time zone and drive up to the fortress.
>>

That was the EC and surprisingly not the SoHs/LWs.
>>

Leviathan is HS
Javelin with AC should be 80pts.

Also, I feel like you are forgetting AC's are Heavy. Those Vets are going to be very immobile.
>>
>>46377003
Not that guy, but "compulsory troops choices" has always referred to units that can fulfill the two troop choice requirement for a viable list. In the standard list, only tactical squads are compulsory troop choices, whereas Pride of the Legion allows Veterans and Terminators to serve as compulsory troop choices.
>>
>>46377007

Sons of Horus were into the habit of carrying skulls and knifing patterns into their own helms. Night Lords were full-on flaymasters and painted their armour in body bits.
Most of the traitors include at least one piece of artwork that's drenched in gore, even if it's not officially uniform.
>>
>>46377007
Every Legion took trophies during the Great Crusade. Many Chapters still do, it's just an easy shorthand to show how barbaric the CSMs are.
>>
>>46377092
You're right, need to squadron up preds to free up a HS slot and drop combi-melta for melta bombs on praetorian. The vets are pretty happy sitting in their rhino shooting out of the hatch.
>>
>>46376848
During the Crusade there would've been Vostroyans in the Imperial Army. Solar Auxilia pattern? Hard to say. I can't think of a good reason why not, other than chance.

>>46377007
Before, in many cases.

>>46377003
No, he's right. Your first two compulsory troops choices have to be taken (hence "compulsory", but they can be any troops choices. Then you have to take a third, which must be recon. It can be your only recon squad.

Assault Marines, so useless nobody remembers that they exist.
>>
>>46377097
Yeah but PotL says "vets and termies are troops choices and must be taken as compulsory troops"

Pretty much all characters that have a variation of the rule 'take squad x as troops' just say 'are troops' or 'may be taken as troops'.

The Recon Company RoW specifically states Recon squads are Compulsory. And that makes sense, since it's a recon company, what would something like Breachers be doing there?

>>
>>46377227
It's fine, seems all fluffy and stuff, if the other guy has some AA it's pretty friendly. But it's still not a legal list as is.
>>
>>46377255
But it doesn't include another sentence saying anything else loses the ability to be taken as a compulsory troops choice, which it would need in order to exclude Breachers, tacs, and assault marines. I think you're taking the literal meaning of the word too far, when it has a defined meaning within the boundary of the rules.
>>
>>46377317
'may be taken as' vs 'is'. This is not semantics, it's grammar.
>>
>>46377227
Seems fine. Friendly, not too bullshit, at 2.5k your opponent should have enough anti-air to handle three fliers.
>>
>>46377354
Yeah, okay, when you come at it from that angle I see what you mean. Would be great to get an FAQ answer in this, the way the rule's presented is pretty muddy. I certainly wouldn't begrudge him the tac squads he's getting out of such an unclear rule, though, any more than I would begrudge a WE player the 50 points of chainaxes or whatever from the unclear WE rules. I think the list is fine to play casually, maybe run the potential rule conflict by the opponent, and if he takes it to a tournament he'll have to ask the TO. If he were taking advantage of similarly muddy wording to bring, for example, a couple extra Sicarans, that'd be a different story.

It does, there's a lot of really shitty ntr out there where the plot is basically 'guy shoves his dick in woman, suddenly she's a slut, her boyfriend/husband is aware of this and does nothing but look sad'

This is as opposed to the ones that bother to put together a plot with actual characters with motivations and development. It's much better when the bull isn't just some random rapist, the woman doesn't go from frigid to turboslut in one dicking, and the cuckold mostly just stays out of the story.

Pic vaguely related, I can't fap to it anymore, but I really want to know how far downhill things go.

mixed; they use their original bases. I think that 32mm is better for marines because marines are bigger than humans who can stick with 25mm bases for all I care. Minis with jump packs are also more stable on the board and it gives a bonus against templates (well, marines are also tougher than normal humans).
Rebasing has the lowest priority for me though. Assembling and painting is much more important.

You’re in a pitched battle charging into a trench, several enemy dead behind you as you leap into a bunker when a contemptor picks you up and cuts you in half. Your squadmates drive him off. As you lose consciousness, your sergeant says, “Your service to your legion will not end here – you have earned the honor of being interred in a dreadnought.” The scene fades to black as you dream of repeating your recent charge as a leviathan.

You wake up mid-dream and recreate your leap into that trench. But you can’t – you waddle forward two steps as you realize you’re in a casteferrum chassis.

Some honor, huh?
