This is completely an issue of players being so fucking stupid that they must associate one thing on one plane to a similar thing to another plane, even if they have nothing to do with each other. It would work the other way around. Tentacle monster - that's our binding concept. The Eldrazi own the concept of tentacle monster now. Kraken and octopi are just giant versions of animals. But tentacle monsters are solely the purview of the Eldrazi. If you introduced Marit Lage and explicitly told players it wasn't an Eldrazi, people would lose their shit especially as Marit Lage can beat Emrakul in an arm wrestle. What's the point of loving Eldrazi if there is this OTHER fucker out there who is even more nightmarish and horrible. If Marit Lage ever came back, she would have to be the progenitor of the Eldrazi, the players could not handle it otherwise.

It depends on your deck. I'm currently playing a very creature lite, removal heavy Mardu deck.
When I go up against Mardu Green and other variants it's not uncommon for both of us to have a graveyard full of removal spells, draw spells, and creatures and an empty board each at Turn 6.

control wants to play this at instant speed, generally speaking untapping 2 lands so you can have countermagic up would be worse than if it were simply an instant and you could cast it on their end step. the discard is additionally a downside. "but muh madness!" normally at 5 mana, you want to just draw 3 cards unconditionally. the discard is bad because it means you need to have a madness card or else you don't even get 3 cards!
