Yes, you don't have enough support for it, for when you don't combo off.

Also, like >>46195010 said, every blue deck should have Frantic Search. It's just a free loot to sculpt your hand like crazy. Also grab a lightning greaves, because someone would love to spike your commander.

Also add Sphinx of the Final Word for control matchups, so you don't have to worry about your combos too much.

>Why would a store sell a card for less than a third of a cent?

Do you mean a third of a dollar?

the damaged binders are used when the store purchases cards in bulk for something around 10 cents per 100 cards, and cards are worth something, but are too damaged to sell at the normal near mint conditioning. Didn't want to throw away a playable card, so they put it in the damaged binder.
Other cards in the damaged binder have sharpie on them, or stamps, or tears/abrasion, rounded corners.
I've gotten pic related for around .50c

Is that enough info? I can provide more if you'd like.

I do enjoy fun decks more than effective decks.

Darien is centered around rube goldberg machines that make me shit soldiers and gain life instead of take damage, and is filled with self-pingers and all-player-pinger artifacts and shit.

Kraj is filled to the brim with a shitload of 3-5 activated ability combos that are deadly but no 2 card combos because it's boring for me and everyone else. I love jankiness.

Lorthos is literally just ocean-related cards and nothing else. Large sea monsters, coral reef, pirate ships, water creatures, whirlpools and waves. Hilariously enough I win with it way more often than other decks.

The deck is my first attempt at creating a control deck in EDH with tempo in mind. The deck is grindy by design with a big beater as a finish, nothing flashy other than necropotence.

My playgroup is extremely competitive. We've actually had a couple instances of people betting their decks in matches. Honestly, I think the power level might be a bit too low actually and was hoping for ideas on holes in the strategy or better choices on cards I'm using.

I like kami of the crescent moon turbostasis. You play howling mine, kami, and font of mythos, thrive in good politics, wait for opponents to kill each other, and then drop winter orb, static orb, stasis, etc and attempt to win by forcing them to draw to death or through lab man/leveler.

It recently won a 4 hour 5 man game, I ended up with 147 life and 96 cards in library

sounds like you have the entire trinket mage package in there, right?
>>
>>46197487
To be honest, no. I'm assuming that's a combo?
I don't run many crazy combos, the only use I can see for trinket mage in this deck is to grab spellbook, meekstone, library of leng, or ivory tower. What is the "entire trinket mage package"?
>>
>>46197516
Trinket Mage package is a suite of cheap response rocks that can basically fix any problem you're currently having. Need a big mana boost? Sol Ring. Need color? Jeweled Amulet/Chrome Mox/Mox Opal/etc. Need their yard gone? Relic/Tormod's. Need Land? Fatty Hate? Token Hate? Big creature a problem? Planeswalker online? There's a 0-1 mana artifact for that.

Seriously, check gatherer for artifacts trinket mage can tutor up, you'll be surprised.
>>
>>46197553
Oooooh, I understand. I'll take a peek.
The thing is, I get to the point where either I force politics on anyone with a board state I'm afraid of, or I bounce what they're threatening me with at instant speed (or I threaten to).

Forbid has countered literally 15 spells in one game, from one blue player, with arcane Lab on the field.

Turbulent dreams Might be my favorite though. Watching the face of a superfriends narset player as 6 walkers get bounced for 2 mana (and discarding 6 cards, a small price in this deck) and holding up mana for counterspells in response. That player's transgressions against me sets an example for the rest of the table. That feeling when they can do nothing to stop dream halls, sunder, evac, and windfall in one turn is priceless
>>
>>46197621
Ah, so hard control then? Mind over Matter in there?
>>
>>46197621
>>46197553

Did I mention narset can't untap due to meekstone while all this is happening? I'm telling you, kami of the crescent moon turbo stasis is a blast to run
>>

I have built that deck and actually won a single game due to complete fuckery from everyone else. That being said, do you actually play something that boring often? The novelty for me wore off incredibly quick.
>>
>>46197719
No, usually I play one of my other three. I play Omnath when I'm bored because I'm at a table with a hyper-competitive meta just to completely grind against it. I'm used to playgroups who use EDH as an excuse to try to win with jank and I love tables like that. If I wanted to make a perfect machine of a deck I'd play boring straightforward commanders or just play a different format.

70 KB, 312x445
What does m/tg/ think of Corpse Dance? With a sac outlet it is pretty much Recurring Nightmare in disguise. How come I haven't seen this card in dozens of decklists?

I play Teneb Rock/Reanimator (mostly because my new playgroup is a bunch of sissys that ban any form of tutoring, MLD, hardlocks, praetors, you name it) and can't or shouldn't have the goodness that Karador provides.
>>
>>46197750
5 mana a turn to repeatedly cast one creature that you can't choose is not good. In response, your opponents can either kill your yard, kill a creature on board, or counter the spell outright, leaving at least three avenues of counterplay. It's not as good as you think, anon.

Too big for reanimator, they want cheap spells like reanimate, animate dead, exhume, and so on, and it's too small an effect for the mana in tempo. Control doesn't usually want creatures that don't stick around for only a turn at a time, so you're left with combo which just has better options.

Reposting once more, for the delight of all those ITT.

>Also, any card that grants an extra turn is exiled and cannot be retrieved nor cast for again by any player. Players may not take more than two turns in a row.

>Players will be broken down into groups of 4-6 players. Only on rare occasions (once or twice a year) do players participate in one-on-one games.

>No card or ability can be activated, nor can any spell be played, nor any ability triggered, more than three times in a turn before turn 8. After turn eight, it can be done up to four times. Players can’t take more than two consecutive turns.

>After the 12th turn of the table, there is no limitation. These rules exist to limit combos to a point and to keep Monday nights fun.

>Players are encouraged to relax and enjoy themselves. This is Magic at its most casual level. Everyone should focus on enjoying themselves. Everyone gets to play their cards as they choose. Sure there will be some table politics, but keep them to a minimum. You’re not playing for high stakes here.

So do I, everyone has things they hate in the format, but building a banlist like this is pure insanity. It's like whenever something wins, they ban it. How the fuck do they even justify banning Sigarda, Host of Herons as a Commander? In what world does that make sense? Did she win one too many games and people couldn't be assed to include actual counters to that card? And motherfucking Reliquary Tower? What's the story here? If the anon who goes at that LGS is still around, I need to know that story.

I'm the guy who goes there but I've never been a part of their EDH groups since I am/was a Standardbabby.

I can tell you based on what I saw during the last FNM (where the had a concurrent EDH "tournament") that it seems like the majority of the players run blue. I suspect that this banlist is because of players whining, not because the staff really cares about competitive diversity.

Basalt + Rings + Goblin Cannon, but there are plenty of ways to abuse infinite mana I think I can also add Doubling Cube + Sages, but it needs way more mana to start going.
Sword of the Meek + Foundry
Time Sieve + Thopter Assembly
Sharuum + Sculpting Steel or Phyrexian Metamorph

What other card draw/tutors should I add? Am I going for way too many combos?

I feel like it's the complete opposite. Proxying is the best way for every deck to look the same. Real creative deckbuilding happens when you can't get all the obviously best staples and auto-includes and have to find budget alternatives and/or work with the cards you have on hand. Throwing proxies into the mix just drastically increases the number of auto-includes you have to run.

Tiny effects become major on her. Huge effects slow you down unless they're huge enough to swing a game. Think like you're a machine gun, low cmc.
>>
>>46203189
>Proxying is the best way for every deck to look the same.
It could definitely go that way. It won't necessarily, though. Plus, once you have access to all of the obligatory includes, you'll more quickly grow tired of them and move onto something else.

or just exiling the kiki, forever. boardwipes would be fine in comparison. since you can just get your stuff back. as usual in the alesha deck this combo is best when you have sac outlets in play (and if you have goblin bombardment or altar of dementia in play, you win the turn that you cast buried alive with infinite dammy or mill).

>>46205660
yes! although, that only kills one person and can just be blocked so it doesn't seem quite as good. also it's kind of funny that alesha has first strike so if you don't have any other unblocked creatures (that don't have first strike) it won't even kill them, it'll leave them at 1.

House rules? Post your house rules.

My friends/play group are kind of alcoholics and we usually play at a bar so we have:

>first round is on last weeks winner
>if you knock someone out of the game, you have to buy them a drink

Oh yeah, one of the best token producers in the color in a deck that relies on a billion tokens is tech, totally.

Shit like Fiery Gambit is tech.

>first person to play a land starts the game (Results in loser getting to start / people being quick in between games)
>the 2 titans don't have annihilator (playgroup wants to play sneak attack and shit but doesn't want X random player to lose turn 2-3 and have to sit and watch the rest of the table)
>no 2 card infinite combos (T&N into combo, Mike & Trike, Palinchron + Manadoubler / Flicker etc)

I'm of the opinion that the less houserules that affect the game the better, and I've pretty much singlehandedly pushed land removal to be (somewhat) tolerated in the meta, as well as slowly introducing stax elements. The last two rules are compromises I've had to make.

>fiery gambit

Smart of wizards to make random cards shit

If they were good it would feel bad when you lose to them. But since they are bad, instead it's fun and random when you actually value off them

honestly any playgroup that plays with the command zone rule at all is babies. it literally makes no sense.
>kill someone's commander
>lolol nope i can cast it again cuz reasons!
>this is logical somehow

In most playgroups, that would basically translate to "titans are banned, unless you're really in love with fatties".

I guess that's sort of fine, it's more permissive than simply banning them, players who like the cards can still use them. I just really hate any houserule that makes cards not do what's written on them / what their oracle text says. That would be like making a houserule saying that Sol Ring costs 3 to cast. It would still be a great card, I'd still play it, it would arguably lead to a much healthier format, but really, just ban the fucking card instead. Modifying the text of cards through houserules is only one step removed from just playing with custom cards.

Titans are awesome due to their mill-immunity ability, but the annihilator caused WAY too much salt. So that is the compromise we arrived at. Also, the cast triggers are pretty good.

Yesterday I met a guy who took forth my Mikaeus deck, felt pretty cool.

I asked how much he paid for it WITH shipping. He said it was $35, not too bad. He also added cards like Sol Ring and Blasting Station.

well before they printed the new titans, the old titans were played in many decks that made big mana and wanted the cast effects because their color(s) either couldn't vindicate or couldn't draw cards well. I wouldn't imagine many seriously competitive decks would have played them but this is edh, right? kozilek was definitely more about the draw 4 than the body it left behind, although obviously the fact that you get a huge monster that will annihilate someone's day if you untap with it is part of why it was worth to pay that much mana for the effect, even if your color(s) couldn't draw cards otherwise. ulamog is indestructible so he was a lot more appealing even if you weren't, for example, desperate to have a way to kill enchantments in your monored deck.

of course then they printed the new titans and they had significantly improved versions of the on cast effects, and suddenly anyone who was playing ulamog for the vindicate rather than the indestructible 99/99 annihilator had no reason to play him anymore, unless they played both.

Yup, exactly. Hopefully with thirty coin flips in Zada, you'll get some value off of it. I mean, winning three coin flips is what, a 1/8 chance? That doesn't sound right.

Half to win the first one, quarter to win the first and second one and eighth to win the first, second and third one. So, yeah, with 8 gobbos, you probably will win the big effect. Sure, it'll wipe your board, but hey.

oh yeah i forgot. some people choose for some reason to play with playgroups that have filthy degenerate mill players in them, so i guess many people found themselves playing the titans for that purpose as well.

I paid 6€ for a Japanese one lately, the fuck are you getting your prices from?

It's also a great tool for resetting your deck size. Drew 60 cards this turn? Discard 53, where one is a titan.

I got a foil Cabal Coffers for less than that a week ago.
