First for taking requests.

I bought a copy of PoW:E, but I'm not currently running a game.

Does anyone have any requests for statblocks for low level initiator NPCs that DMs can use on their PCs, but don't have the time to do it themselves?

If you do, be specific with regard to the class and flavor of the campaign.

File related.

Martial weapons means they get proficiency in the Bardiche, Bec de corbin, Bill, Glaive, Guisarme, Glaive-Guisarme, Halberd, Lucerne Hammer, Horsechopper, Lance, and Ranseur; all reach weapons.

Unfortunately, none of that matters, because Magi can't use two-handed weapons with Spellstrike.

Actually, thinking about this...

What would the best way to present classes that are T3 in a certain archetype, but not by default?

For example, Sacred Servant Paladin vs normal Paladin.
>>
>>46129174
>>46129418
Expanding on this, if you take, what is it called.. Greater Summoning and give each companion the Lingering Companion talent, then their summoning lasts all day, and you can stow and retrieve them from them hammerspace at will. Then just give them various talents to emulate poképowers; give Charmander the Draconic Form for Flamethrower, give Pidgey the Bestial Form for wing buffets, etc.

Get a mithral light shield and the Pikeman's Training feat from PoW:E.

>You can wield a normally two-handed polearm or spear in one hand, provided you are wielding a light or heavy shield in your other hand. When wielding a weapon in this manner, you treat it in all ways as being a one-handed weapon, rather than a weapon of its normal handedness.

The mithral light shield would have no arcane spell failure.
>>
>>46129466

Martial Focus does not appear to be on the SRD. What is it?
>>
>>46129533
Spell Combat still requires a free hand. A buckler would work, but doesn't a light shield specifically keep you from casting using that hand?

It counts as Weapon Training for feat prerequisites.
>>
>>46129161

Spellstrike does not require a free hand, so it could be done with a two-handed weapon.
>>

Downside, you won't get spell combat until 8th level
>>
>>46129572
>http://www.d20pfsrd.com/equipment---final/armor/shield-light-wooden-or-steel
>You strap a shield to your forearm and grip it with your hand. A light shield's weight lets you carry other items in that hand, although you cannot use weapons with it.

Alternatively, the magus can use the Weapon Trick feat for polearms and use Choke Up.

>You can take a –2 penalty on attack rolls and damage rolls until the beginning of your next turn in order to choke up on and wield a two-handed polearm sized for you in one hand, as long as you do not make attacks with your other hand.
>>
>>46129769
All that fucking around to be super mediocre until 8th level, when you can just use a fucking Scimitar and be decent from level 1 (or 2 if you're Dex-based).

It always seemed silly to me that bludgeoning/piercing/slashing DR can only be bypassed with the proper type of weapon, while the other common DR types can be bypassed with magic plusses. Like, no matter how holy and undead-smiting your weapon is, if it doesn't bludgeon you can't get around a silly skeleton's DR. Unless you have smite evil or something I guess.

To Ligut, to seek forgiveness for an act of betrayal or cowardice is the most heinous of arrogances, and even acts of atonement carry the stench of conceit.

>It was not always so - once, Ligut was a mortal paladin, charged with the protection of a cache of holy texts belonging to every faith from Aroden's to Zon-Kuthon's. However, this cache in the desert, guarded by Ligut and his mighty shield Bladeshatter, was assaulted by the forces of Rahadoum shortly after the founding of that nation. Facing two thousand men by himself and fearing for his life, Ligut threw Bladeshatter down and fled into the sands, dying of thirst soon after. His mortal panic, and the gods' judgement at his dereliction of duty, sent him hurtling down to Abbadon. It is not quite known how he ascended to wield divine power himself, but it is said that whenever an oath is broken out of fear, whenever courage fails, and whenever men die with hearts heavy with regrets, unforgiven and unrepentant, his power grows.

Hey so im working on my own setting and running into a bit of an issue own my races. I would much prefer using custom races that would better fit into the backstories of the races then try and fit some of the core races into roles they arent suited for.

The crux of the issue is unlike creature creation i find the rules on race creation much vaguer. Using the srd site as my source. Are there any other guides out there with a more in depth look at it.
>>
>>46131800
Paizo's 'rules' on race creation are...

Shoddy. At best.

They're not the worst to use as a reference for things like statblocks and such, but they undervalue many abilities and overvalue others.

>>46131928
This reminds me of something SKR once worked on. A 'feat point' system, wherein characters gained point every level and could spend them on feats, and more powerful feats cost more points.

Which isn't really a bad idea in and of itself, except that Skill Focus was priced higher than some metamagics, and natural spell.

This reminds me of something.

I thought a while back how nice it would be to have something you could use to apply archetype text to the actual normal class page. So you've got your normal class text, you tick a box for the archetype, and it swaps out the replaced stuff for the archetype stuff, so it's all in one place and you don't have to swap between multiple pages.

Avengers can get both Lethal Grace, and Fist of the Avenger.

Fist of the Avenger is a flat damage bonus with unarmed or gauntlets. Argument could be made for Cesti.

Lethal Grace adds half your level on melee attacks if you're using dex to hit and strength to damage. It also actually gives you Weapon Finesse.

Social.
>>
>>46132761
See that's the thing. Strength STILL benefits you.

With Lethal Grace, you still get your strength bonus to damage, as WELL as half your level.

It's to make having a balance between the two attack stats less detrimental than just maxing up one of them, like the AWT Trained Grace.
>>
>>46132783

TR-8R probably wouldn't be a PC. He still goes down to one blaster shot.

In my mind, TR-8R is a movie version of the Super-Guard every GM has found under their power at some point. The minor, "simple" encounter that briefly channels the unrelenting fury of the dice gods and makes a more lasting impression on the party than several of the actual boss fights.

Oh don't get me wrong. A feat point system isn't a bad idea. Quite the contrary! However, it's SKR's very limited understanding of the system that lead his implementation to be.. rather subpar, to say the least.

I understand this post is facetious, but I felt that I may as well share my thoughts on SKR's proposal.
>>
>>46132825
Fair enough.

I just really like its implementation. I mean, in point buy, for the cost of raising a stat from 16 to 18, you could instead raise another stat to 15 from 10.

Things supporting a less balls out statmaxing method make me happy.

That line of thought is why I have it generating the table out of the text already. I mean, it'd probably take a ton more work to get it to work like that, but it's a start.

New to martials here, whats better between chained and unchained for barbarians?
>>
>>46133308
Chained.
>>
>>46133308
I may as well ask what makes one type better than the other and how it reflects in the long term.
>>
>>46133308
It depends.

Chained's rage improves your strength and constitution.

Unchained improves your attack/damage and gives you temporary HP.

Unchained's upside is basically ease of use, and dropping out of rage can't kill you. Plus, a bunch of Unchained's rage powers are better.

Chained though, because it's improving your ability scores, directly improves things like str based skills, your carrying capacity, your fortitude save, things like that. Unchained's damage boost is also only equal to normal gain from strength, it doesn't apply the x1.5 from twohanding.
>>
>>46133308
Unchained definitely has some nice new rage powers, but if the DM won't let you port them over to chained it's no great loss.
>>
>>46132983

Heck, use regular CMB + initiator level as a drag maneuver....

how does /pfg/ feel about campaigns starting out around level 1 or 2 and having generous xp rewards at low levels so you get to experience some of that low level jank but then quickly level past it to 5,6,7 or so right in the meaty good part of the level progression and handing out less xp rewards then?

Our DM had been handing out bonus xp that scaled with APL for things like arriving on time and ready to play and coming up with good ideas. As well as bonus xp for characters that are behind the highest xp total in the party.

He said now that we are a bit higher level he will still hand those out but not have them scale with our level flatly anymore to try to slow leveling down a bit.

I think it's a pretty novel approach that we got to play a bit as super low powered and now we are starting to come into our own but we didn't spend too much time at the lower end.
>>
>>46133308
Play a Warder.
>>
>>46133766
I think that's a good way of doing it.

Especially for newbies, the game is a TON easier to learn if you're not fucking about with a million different abilities and magic items and feats and all that stuff.

Plus, it gives people a better feel for the campaign so they can build to the game rather than building for one thing and being met with another.

It's going to be Rusty Dagger Shanktown for levels 4-6, so I hope they don't get too attached to their characters.
>>
>>46129294
What? No, they don't. You can Spellstrike with a normal spell, as in use a standard action to cast a touch spell, and then deliver it with your weapon instead of a touch attack.

Spellstrike and Spell Combat work together very well (giving you an extra attack as a full attack action most of the time), but they don't actually require each other to function.
>>
>>46131030
>Yeah, but when was the last time anyone ever had their weapon sundered in game?
I've been using the automatic bonus progression rules in my games lately, and this has freed me up to sunder the fuck out of everything without any guilt at all (when it's an appropriate tactic for the enemy to use, of course).

It's also led to warriors using weapons other than those they're specialized with now and then, too, since they've had to resort to things like stealing weapons from enemies or raiding the enemy armory after having their weapons destroyed.

Some of the most fun I've had as a GM in a long time has been an Ogre Barbarian with Improved and Greater Sunder smashing straight through the PCs' weapons and knocking them on their asses at the same time.

You don't need a ton of Charisma to do social skills. The DCs are often pretty easy, and you've got tons of ranks to drop in them.

If you want to push them harder, you could take Extra Traits to use your Intelligence on a few of 'em:

http://archivesofnethys.com/TraitDisplay.aspx?ItemName=Student%20of%20Philosophy
http://archivesofnethys.com/TraitDisplay.aspx?ItemName=Bruising%20Intellect
(do note that these are both Social traits, so you can't take both if you aren't house ruling out the limit on multiple traits of the same type)
>>

No traits allowed sadly. But I could drop a bunch of ranks into Diplomacy (the most important one to me) and get a sorta okay check. I have 7 cha so I have a big deficit.

>they live together for some time already
>it's pretty certain they'll marry each other at some point soon-ish
The dream is coming true.
>>
I have a PoW question.
One of the Scarlet throne Stances reads thus:

Practitioners of Scarlet Throne know that to be a lord amongst warriors, he must walk the path of battle alone, and he understands that often times he may be beset by all sides. By adopting the Circular Stance, the disciple learns to defend himself from the predations of those who would think him outflanked. While in this stance, the initiator is never considered flanked (this thwarts sneak attack attempts as well, provided that the rogue or ninja's level does not exceed the disciple's initiator level by 4 or more).

Now I'm pretty certain that means you only negate sneak attack that come from being flanked, but a player claims it means all sneak attacks.

Could someone who knows better clarify for us?
>>
What makes and breaks the tier standings of a class? Is it always about spellcasting or are there other features that might give a class a better standing?
>>
>>46135216
It's pretty much just improved uncanny dodge as a stance, so point to that for future rulings.

http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/barbarian#TOC-Improved-Uncanny-Dodge-Ex-
>>
>>46135216
"As well" probably means that it works in addition to that. So negates both flanking and sneak attacks from any other source.
>>
>>46135219
Tiers are about both power and versatility - the ability to succeed at things, and the number of different things the class can be successful at.

Generally speaking it does require spellcasting to be tier 1 because you need a large list of very diverse things your character is capable of, in addition to nearly unbeatable power levels, and those are almost always going to be spell lists.

Tier 2 can theoretically contain anything with comparable raw power to really good 9th level spells, even if they're not versatile.

Tier 3 and 4 are in a similar comparison to each other, but tier 4s can sometimes have a slightly higher power ceiling than the 3s; tier 3s are mostly about having comparable power to tier 4s but can do a lot of other things in other situations as well.

Below that (5 and 6) are just classes that aren't usually good at things, or particularly useful things. I guess tier 6s CAN'T be good at things, is the difference? They're NPC classes.
>>
>>46135219
A class that gets 9 levels of casting and bonus metamagic feats is wasted if it only has force effects and energy blasts. A class that gets no spellcasting can still break the game if, for example, it gets the ability to enthrall people, no save.
Versatility matters. A class that's locked into a single way of breaking campaigns is only tier 2, while a class that can break the campaign in a different way each day is tier 1.

>>
>>46136097
Because Dex gives you a lot more side benefits than Str (AC, initiative, Reflex, more skills, etc).

Also because crit range is important to a magus but crit multiplier isn't: you're angling for crits so that you can get your Shocking Grasp damage multiplied, but spells are only a x2 regardless of the weapon you use, so an 18-20 is better than a 19-20/x3 (especially when Keen or Improved Criticals come into use).

Sorry it took so long, anon that wanted to take a look and give an opinion on the doll idea three or five threads ago here.

This seems different from the one that posted before, right?
This version is unfortunately terrible. I know you did it just for fun, but the doll offers literally nothing aside from trading out mechanical benefits for fluff that could pretty easily be included with the homunculus anyway.
It would probably work better if you based it on the familiar that the Homunculist gets, with a dash of Soulbinder wizard for the "soul of a loved one inside" bit. It allows them to gain feats and class features as you level up, basically remembering who they were before.

Why the fuck do creatures with a swim speed still deal reduced damage underwater with bludgeoning and slashing weapons?
>>
>>46133554
Well, the idea is, it avoids impassable terrain like giant pits. But strictly speaking, it only mentions avoiding obstacles, not things you *could* move an enemy through that are hazardous... That might be the fix, just preventing them from entering hazardous terrain as a result of No Escape.
>>
>>46136537
Because swim speed isn't magic and doesn't get to ignore laws of physics?
>>
>>46136537
...why wouldn't they? It's not like fish have a magical aura that removes water resistance around them, they're just streamlined to minimize it. Swinging weapons are not streamlined, so water resistance fucks up the swing.
>>
>>46136562
But the aquatic combatant feat lets a creature without a swim speed fight underwater with no penalty at all
>>
>>46136390
If I have to be honest, I erred on the side of caution with this because I had to take into account the discoveries and alternative version of the archetype I had proposed in the initial document, since even weaker bombs are still more bombs at once. Is that a good excuse? Probably not, but I just don't have enough of a grasp on what kind of subtle changes are too subtle. I was /hoping/ to highlight the fact that a homunculus is more "artificial creature" while the dolls are "soul bound to a construct", but looking at it I flopped hard on that. Having your companion creature be tiny is also probably a dumb idea as well.

I am not good at this, but that's what asking for opinions is supposed to help with I suppose.

Probably a LG deity of BDSM. There's already two deities that cover it in some of the worst ways possible, the pantheon needs a competent figure for divine magical realms.
Portfolio could be either Duty and Service, or maybe Redemption Through Pain.

Son, dat nigga be dead for 30 years. Heck, they even had an OVA in the 90s where Dio killed him super hard

>By concentrating fully on the spell (a standard action), you can receive full sensory input as interpreted by the mind of the subject, though it still can't communicate with you. You can't actually see through the subject's eyes, so it's not as good as being there yourself, but you still get a good idea of what's going on.
Can someone tell me what the hell this actually means? Can you see what they see or not?

So, basically Sacrier?

If they were going to use swords, they'd take the feat, but if it's a choice between spending a feat or just using a piercing weapon, what would most PCs do? There's a reason tridents are so common among those races.

It sounds like "You see what they see, but you don't get to roll against illusions if they fail because you only see exactly what they see."

I guess?

I think it's more like having them narrate everything they're sensing for you. Only perfectly, because it's not actually their fallible ass narrating, it's the magic (voiced by Morgan Freeman).

I choose to believe this is exactly how it works.

It happens, and you can always keep working on it. That said, the Promethean isn't a terrible archetype but it's also not the strongest. You've got some room to play with there, but getting to keep bombs does up the power a bit... although it's also possible for a normal alchemist to spend a couple feats and have a familiar that throws bombs too. And a Homunculist can have a familiar too, with no feat investment, plus it can move around to throw bombs in other places, gains all the benefits of being a familiar, and even free Evolved Familiar feats.

So, a tiny homunculus can work out fine for an alchemist, there's just figuring out what having an actual soul means for them.

Well,I suppose I could see that making sense from the perspective that skill rolls get made far more often than metamagic feats or natural spell gets used. So just based on frequency, yeah. The problem is that you get a fuckton more mileage out of the other two.

/tg/ already built a LG deity of BDSM, Family, and Rightful Rulership and Citizenship.

Had to look that one up, but could be fitting. And I suppose that Golarion already has Neshen, the Steel Lash, but that one barely has any info and despite the title and symbol being whips, favored weapon is a polearm.

Down but not out. The house of mouse says that feedback on TR-8R was so positive that he's coming back. Also that TR-8R is his canonical designation now even though it doesn't fit with their existing naming scheme.

I mean, sort of? The fast tracking through low levels is a great idea, but the using XP part is honestly an archaic and unnecessary deal.

There are plenty of little bonuses he can give, like mulligans, first dibs on snacks, little bonuses to important rolls, etc., that don't end up having to track exactly how much XP each individual creature should be giving to the party.

It also lets you level up the characters when it's relevant to the story, not when they're stuck in the middle of some dungeon fighting for their lives.

That's dumb

...While that sounds awesome, I demand sauce, 'cause that really sounds like fan-rumor.
