I've been wondering how do you fellow megucas handle "misc" rolls in the game... for example, the other day one mahou shoujo wanted to play the violin. She wasn't Sound or anything, she just wanted to show off her violin skills to her friends in class. I stopped for a while to think before telling her to roll 5d10, since i couldn't think of anything better.
Also, perception rolls, how to do it? We have rules for hiding, but not for finding people who hid, which is kinda odd.

I don't make anyone roll for something unchallenged that they can certainly do. If the character has violin skills and isn't being chased by rabid dogs, there's no roll.

Yeah, usually I wouldn't ask for that kind of roll either, but more than simply playing, her objective was to awe the music club, and that isn't something easily done imo.

There are no social rolls; unless you're a Psychic or Empath trying to deceive another player, in which case you would roll your Mag vs their Shield/Sunder/Luck rolls.
As for hide, it seems to be an Agi roll looking at the rules. So pursuing and seeking would be an Agi roll in return (or luck?).
Perception rolls when they have been needed has just been with a 1d20

That does make sense, indeed it's good to encourage the roleplay, and I've never been too fond of Social rolls in system that have them (Fast Talk in CoC makes me lose my mind).
I was wondering more in those situations that should have benefits or be some challenge, explicitly to avoid the "I'm awesome at everything" approach... like rolling to see how well you went on a test... hmm, but even in that case I can make it depend on whether they've studied or not, or have training in the subject and such.
So, perception as a d20 and setting the DC as high/low as appropriate? Maybe with a bonus depending on whether they have Third Eye, Awareness and etc? I think this will work. Thanks a lot for the help, you two!

now maybe i shouldn't say stuff like this since it's sort of min/maxing but if your willing to give up on the character you want for stats then spend you coins carefully. for example you spent a silver to get underdeveloped but could have kept overdeveloped and got +1VIT out of it and used that silver to gain +2 to any stat. But on a positive, i think you made the right move switching out the melee to ranged given low STR and VIT but i think you forgot to take off the +1VIT for the final build. Hope that helps

What the 2nd anon said, pretty much. It'd be minmaxing so you shouldn't worry too much, but, for example, if your change to Elaborate was because you were concerned with your MAG stat, you could have kept the Skimpy Outfit, and rather than spend 1 silver to swap to Elaborate, stay Skimpy and spend the silver to get +2 to MAG. Effectively, you'd get +2 AGI to the build you already have right now, while still having 12 in MAG.
... But you'd have to wear skimpy clothing.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but... if a bronze coin allows me to "anchor" a spell for a year and a day, and the exchange rate of coppers>bronze is of around a 100 copper for 1 bronze... this means that I can easily use a single copper coin to make one of my mana-per-round sustained buffs last for a whole hour with no cost, right?
(Technically, the math says the spell would be able to last for about 3 days and 4 hours)

Yeah...exchange rates and effect potency/duration kind of need to be worked out. The fact that there's no real exchange rate for Gold is a big issue.

Of course you could always just fluff it differently. In my own Megucaverse I like to just skip the problem entirely by saying that it takes special entities to do coin-based magic (like character buffs, forging weapons, enchanting potions...) and Megucas can't do it themselves. Skips the issue and also motivates the existence of plenty of NPCs and a Meguca-based economy.

This also assumes that effect potency scales linearly with power i.e. you can use half the money to get half the effect. You could also fluff it that you absolutely have to get a copper's worth of coin to get a permanency effect. Why? Pic related.

I tend to go with 'scene' rather than 'hour' because I like more fluid measurements in my games, but more or less.

However your math is incorrect because the effects of the coins are not linear. Notice how Silver has a variable exchange rate? 20 bronze will get you a stat point, but to forge a permanent magical weapon, you will need 50 bronze. A Silver can do either of those things.

As noted, the coins expand in capabilities as they go up, and it's not a linear shift, so it's not like you can just go 'I have 10k copper coins, so gimme a gold!' Gold not having an official exchange rate is down to people WITH gold coins not wanting to exchange them for lesser coins, and instead turn them to their own purposes.

I do tend to assume that the only things you can directly spend the coins on for yourself are spell anchoring and stat boosting. If you want perks or equipment, you'll have to find someone to make them for you.

Those are good approaches to the issue indeed, but yep mostly I did intend to go with that for the cool things they'd need to find someone willing to take their coins and do it for them, it's just that the lesser effects should be doable by themselves...

I see, thank you very much, QB! I remember I had read somewhere that the scaling wasn't necessarily linear so I didn't trust the math too much, but about an hour of duration is just perfect already.
Mostly I wanted to know this because I'm a reinforcement girl, and honestly, people seem to think I don't have anything better to do than dispense buffs. I even have a Killing Blow and I couldn't even get to test it yet. Now I can at least pre-battle buff, then fight with some dignity.

I didn't know that this was the reason that the exchange rates were variable, that does make sense. Then we basically don't bind the rates to a "proportion" of how much stored mana each coin has (as in "20 bronze has as much mana as 1 silver"), but also to the... quality of the energy stored in them, I think.

I found that picture being passed around my dashboard, found it pretty and saved it. Can't tell you the artist but you'll probably find him on pixiv.

As for concept source, that is a character called Akemi Homura from Puella Magi Madoka Magica. It's a pretty decent magical girl anime, I suggest you watch it. She does not have the appearance in the image however, only in the sequel movie.

Swap Time for Illusion/Psychic monster girl, Uniform to Skimpy, and Hammerspace with corrupted Power of AI YO, Big Damn Hero to wings.

Fated is because of her wish, the gunfu is secondary to her shield's actual magic shots, and I doubt a universe-making devil needs anything beyond her magic, so that's mystic too. Other stuff is pretty self-evident in the source.
