He's from Andoran, but he's been traveling a while now.

>Hungry are the Dead
He's from Kintargo. Never liked the place, and he bailed out recently - the town was seriously going to the dogs if the higher-ups needed to call in somebody like Bazzy. That's when he got a call about two things: heretics hiding out somewhere in Andoran, and a bunch of undead in the same area.

I've got three characters at the moment - one I'm running, two I want to play.

First is a half-orc druid from the hold of Belkzen. she has a pet gorthek and he's the cudliest murder machine in the world. the druid, meanwhile, plays the part of therapist for the rest of the group.

The first of the two I want to play is a psychic or psion from Brevoy (which of those two classes I choose depends on whether the GM allows 3pp or not) that wants to figure out why her magic is so different, since she's never met another psionicist.

And the third is a mech pilot goblin or blue. Can't really do that one, yet, though, because I need to wait for Ssalarn to update Arcforge into a usable state.

Looking for build advice - E6, level 1 start, Path of War allowed, no traditions, no playtest anything (so if you can't archetype or level 6 prestige a discipline, you can't have it). Would like to play an initiator. I don't want to ask "what would be most fun" but I guess I want to know if there's anything really interesting you can do in E6 aside from just build up maneuver libraries with feats. I don't think the setting has psionics or I'd probably just be a soulknife.

Baba Yaga was originally an ancient Scythian woman, right?

What if that's your character, a Scythian from way back when who was kept in the hut by Baba Yaga for reasons known only to her.

Hell, you have the full gamut of historical groups to pick from; French knight? Prussian line infantry? US Cavalry officer? Everything between 500 BC and 1917 AD is open.

>Where is your character from, /pfg/?
Long story.

But basically he was born on another plane/world (location classified, he doesn't know yet), except when he was a kid his mother, a relatively powerful wizardess, decided that she needed to hide him lest her enemies use him against her. Blood of a family line, shit like that.

So she took him to the World Serpent Inn, literally picked a door at random, and put him through it, leaving him to survive alone on the streets.

He has some rather crippling abandonment issues as a result. He also has a chip on his shoulder about wizards. No fucking sense of right or wrong at all, and abandoning your kid on an alien world with nothing but the clothes on his back is definitely wrong.

You mean would it be a Fighter archetype?

They don't have much in common besides being commonly played as melee classes. Their skill lists, skill points, hit points, proficiencies, and loads of class features are different, and were even before rage powers were a thing. It's true that they both get played a lot as simple "I bonk him with my sword" combat, but there is more to them (or at least the Barbarian) than that and they don't do it exactly the same way.

Depends on the date. And how you ask, of course. Kyria's been a casual girl for a long while; constantly traveling does that to a person. But she certainly wouldn't get any /more/ angry.

You know how some demons are just these near-mindless hate engines that wreck everything they come across?

Kyria feels like that /all the time/. It is the background emotion with which she lives her life. There's a reason her name is on a power that blows all of your blood out of your pores and turns it into a sticky mist, and it's not because she's overwhelmed with feelings of peace and serenity. She makes the best life she can and deals with her heritage in a way that lets her /have/ a life instead of, for instance, burning out young and exploding to death all over innocent people. Finding religion helped with that a bit; Lady Bast keeps her busy.

All this Qlippoth posting gave me a hankering for a conjuration-focused PC with a tendency for summoning things much larger, smarter, and far more evil than herself. I just got the OK that my friend is gonna start running us a 1 to 20 campaign in a couple weeks.

Any ideas on how to build such a character? Summoner, Wizard, or Sorcerer? 3PP allowed, up to 3 Flaws allowed.

I saw the Malconvoker mentioned on a few threads back, is it worth it if I have to eat the class 1 level at a time?
>>
>>43902810
Quasits. They can turn into boars, which means they can fuck you
>>
>>43902858
Yes, if you can play a Malconvoker in Pathfinder, that is exactly what you want. If not just go Summoner and write fanfic about your summon raping you sometimes and then forcing you to pretend nothing's wrong in front of the party, just like your dad used to do before your slumber parties, but you had them anyway because you were so good at pretending that it was almost like being happy, slumber party every weekend, until that rumor you were gay because you wouldn't make out with boys made you a social pariah and that's when you learned to summon demons.

"But how can an eidolon overpower its summoner," you might ask. Well, it can't.

You just get so lonely. And it's the only way you know.
>>
>>43902858
Summoner could be good, as ling as it's not unchained since there are no qlippoth eidolons, and there is an archetype or whatever that let's you summon an outsider type of your choice easier, qlippoth included.

Still sticking with my idea of a magic dildo or strap-on. If you can't spare the coin to have it made Holy and/or Demon-Bane, then at least anoint it with holy water for lube. If your character is open to some morally-dubious means, you can also have the toy have been the gem used for a Trap the Soul spell, so that you can catch the succubus by surprise when she thinks she's sucked out your soul and killed you but it was actually some other poor schmuck's soul.

Okay, you got a Caster level, which progresses when you take levels in Caster classes like BAB would. Different classes give you talents at different levels, yadda yadda, basically like Magus arcana ornother similar mechanic. Spell pool is based upon Casting modifier and total level in all Casting classes, though some classes give bonus spell points

Anything else?

Those are separate suggestions, obviously. The later one is for if he does have the cash. Honestly though, I guess it's a little moot since now that I think about it, if he can access Trap the Soul he's probably powerful enough to just fight the succubus straight up and send her back to Hell with a black eye from slapping her around with his cock, or the strap-on if the PC in question isn't packing.

Yes, although some classes are better at some spheres than others. The Elementalist, for instance, is only a Mid Caster (equivalent to a 2/3rds caster), but becomes a full caster when dealing with the Destruction sphere.
>>
>>43903453
What about the Sphere Archetypes? Do they offer much different from the main sphere classes?

Also, would a mageknight be significantly different than a spherecasting magus?

So how do you deal with an Incubus at low levels, then? Assuming you're not just a bard that can talk him into taking the secretly-enchanted dildo in the butt. Wait, do outsiders even have a butt to take it in? I mean, they don't eat, right?

Incubi and succubi are separate things in PF, anon. They're both shapeshifting sex demons who can adopt either sex, but succubi tempt/betray while incubi just murder/rape. They're also lower-CR and less capable of mindfucking a party. Which one are you dealing with?

>>
>>43903502
The archetypes that DDS has released range from amazing (Dragonblooded Mortal and Triple Goddess are both known for being arguably better than the single tradition that they each replace, and stacking them both is surprisingly-viable for a Hedgewitch to do) to equal (the Geomancer trades out Destruction for Nature wholesale and is a worthwhile thing to do) to bad (Warlock pretty much cripples the one that Incanters have as their unique ability by taking away 1/3 of their talents).
>>
>>43903502
The Mageknight is a bit closer to a paladin than a magus in practice, I've found. They have sphere casting, but a fairly limited pool of spell points and several in-class abilities that spend the spell points as well to be straight up better at fighting. (Spend a spell point to take an extra move as a swift action, gain your level as an attack bonus when charging, that sort of thing.) Sphere Magus is better at integrating spherecasting and fighting, but Mageknight is better at being a straight martial, with one or two neat magical tricks on the side.
>>
>>43903609
Not explicitly, but they both have at-will alter self and they can pick any Small or Medium humanoid form, with no limits on sex.
>>
>>43903506
I'm not sure I could talk about my BBEG in here, since people I know frequent the thread.

It's not like there's any one specific one. It's more of a thirty-truck pileup of bad circumstances behind the scenes right now.

>>
>>43903502
Mageknight is High BAB and Low Casting, while a Magus is Mid BAB/Casting. While they can access the same Spheres, they are functionally different, as the Mageknight is essentially a martial who supplements his fighting with minor Magic and his class abilities, like built in rage or growth and works best with low investment Spheres, like Time, Warp, or War, or utility Spheres like Divination since you already have the damage going strong. Magus would be mixing Combat and Magic equally, and does well with many different types of spheres but won't be hitting as often as the Mageknight

Personally, i prefer the Armorist. Gate of Babylon all day erry day

>by the time party comes along, the realm's starting to draw in entire small towns of people, who spend each night trapped in that dream
>they report being exhausted during the day and being so happy during the dream it's hard to will themselves to wake up
>the sub-realm is actually, genuinely a happy place, and everyone is happy with their place in it - but men cannot live by dreams alone, so party has to go into the Dimension of Dreams and fix this mess
>eventually, party would find out that the "Dream Sovereign" has been dead for anywhere from a century to a couple of thousand years (wasn't quite sure how long to make the timescale on this one), and the means to freeing everyone is to find their grave and destroy the circlet still attached to their head
>in that way, the souls trapped there even after dying in their sleep can move on, and the living dreamers trapped there can get back to their lives

>Duskblade 3/[3.5] Cloistered Cleric 1 (Knowledge Devotion, two domain powers from 3.5 where they were good for dips)/Something with skill points 1/Chameleon 10/anything 5 // A martial of your choice (I vote PoW Warder, focusing on counters).

Use Chameleon to get a divine or arcane list filled to the brim with debuff spells and channel them through Spell Channeling. Use Warder's tankiness for general cool stuff, and grab tons of counters and boosts for mobility.

>Something (fighter for feats is actually non-terrible here) 4/Dragonmark Heir 5/free space 11 // Martial of choice 20 (I like PoW Warlord, for Charisma synergy, or PoW Mystic, for not causing a hideous Swift action bottleneck)

Ideally a PoW martial, or a Magus, or something, that can go without a lot of feat use. Dragonmarked Heir wants you to get a bunch of extra feats, including Quicken Dragonmark three times (once for each tier of mark). This makes your dragonmark SLAs swift actions... All of them. Stuff like minor creation/major creation/fabricate if going the Mark of Making, or awesome shit like Control Winds to summon up a tornado around you as a swift action, then kick someone into it.

Ranger 4/Something that gives a bonus feat 1/Stalker of Kharash 2/Ranger 11 more/anything else 2 // Martial chassis of choice, potentially grabbing PrCs. I like magus here because I'm always a slut for gishes.

Stalker of Kharash has an interesting thing called Favored Enemy (Evil). It's a +1 favored enemy bonus that procs on anything evil-aligned. Level 2 in the class gives you the scent ability for detecting evil things (and by RAW lets you track by it as normal, invalidating their later abilities). At Ranger 5, you can up your FE bonus against evil things by +2.

For your first enemy, go to Complete Mage from 3.5 for Favored Enemy (Arcanists). Favored enemy bonuses against arcane casters. Then, grab the Nemesis feat from the Book of Exalted Deeds, once for that, and once for FE: Evil.

But on the other hand, incubi can use their alter self ability to look like whatever you (or more likely they) want to, whether it's that or a kobold or the iconic cleric or whatever other kind of humanoid you want. But on the other other hand, if they're just rapist-murderers, I don't see why they'd bother. Unless, maybe, if you redeemed one, but Paizo would never explore an option like that.
>>
>>43904413
Well, there are male succubi. And presumably, there are female incubi. They can shapeshift after all, and gender's gonna be weird as fuck for them.

Look at it this way; it's "aggressive, mindless rape is less dangerous than deceptive, intelligent rape."

Both rape all over the place. The species divide could be seen as one being a bit more scary than the other. I personally am more afraid of date-rapists with roofies than I am of the idea of some guy with a knife in an alley. One comes out of nowhere, while the other can be run away from.

Mass Summon Monster is no longer a thing. Conjuration Sphere on Thaumaturge, Incanter, or Fey Adept can choose Conjuration Sphere, which is essentially Eidolans, choose multiple companion and alignment companion and build your fiendish Pokemon team. Amusingly, one's already been linked: >>43904413
This guy right here is the male succubus/incubus in the 5e monster manual. In D&D, "incubus" is used in two ways; one as a colloqual term for a male succubus (in both 3.5 books and 5e books), and one as a name for a separate species, devoted to aggressive rape instead of deceptive rape. 4e rewrote the cosmology and had incubi as demons who do a lot of both, but are also incredibly varied shapeshifters for whom gender would be a lot weirder than it would be for humans.

I have to admit that I do agree with you on this one- not that I'm trying to say pulling stuff like that is risky because there are a lot of DMs I wouldn't trust with pulling it off well, just like I wouldn't trust them not to fudge rolls or monsters stats. But there are definitely some interesting ideas to work with if you're willing to pull a fast one on your players. I guess it's about whether or not you can manage to do it tastefully and whether your players are mature enough to roll with it in turn.

>>43904580
I try to forget that one exists. I had done it too, so fuck you for reminding me.
>>
>>43904609
It's inherent in the word. A 'male' succubus would just be called an incubus.
>>
>>43904609
The Merriam-Webster definition of a succubus is "a demon assuming female form", so yeah.

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/succubus
>>
>>43904609
>Also, got sources for succubi always being female?
Pazio bestiary refers to succubi as 'she', while other demons are refered to as 'its' or by name 'A Shadow demon'. Also their entry blurb refers to them as a woman.

>gender specific entities?
>in my Pathfinder?

Some Succubuses have penises, get over it.
>>
>>43904671

Good thing there's a lot of fluff for demons in specific settings so that doesn't really apply, eh? Same reason that a magus isn't one of these guys: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/magus

How does this sound to you?
>Skinwalker Barbarian (Spirit Lion Totem) 1/Fighter (Dungeoncrasher) 1-6/Warshaper 1-4/Fist of the Forest 1-3/Weretouched Master (pre-errata) 1-5/((1 more level of whatever)) // Warlord (Steelfist Commando) OR Warder 1-20

The above build grants you a large amount of power while still remaining pretty controlled. You can pounce, you can deal a ton of damage by bull-rushing someone into things, you gain a bunch of natural attacks whenever you're shifted, your unarmed attacks deal good damage, you get your Constitution to AC, and you have Maneuvers, specifically the very potent combination of Broken Blade + Primal Fury.

Plus, just think of the fluff and characterization: a huge wrestler that can turn into an actual bear (or whatever) and crush the hell out of everyone. Go with a Coldborn, Ragebred, Scaleheart, Fanglord, or Witchwolf for the best results.

Speaking as a foreverDM, there is a world of difference between "engaging story" and "I'm going to take away the characters that the players wanted to play." That's not even an issue of trust, that's an issue of being respectful to your players. The players have just as much a stake in the story as we do; they aren't supposed to be an audience for our personal stories.
>>
>>43902155
Hot.
>>43902235
My fiancee does this regularly.
>>
>>43904627
Of course its risky, i totally agree that it can go wrong and often will. But players will almost always make the risk assessment that it will be shit even if there is a good DM, which is totally unreasonable.

Honestly, maybe people always think they have shit DMs because they never try what the DM wants to do, but rather force the DM to lower themselves down to "generic fantasy sandbox no rails plz". Let DMs play to their strengths and explore their ideas.
>>
>>43904707

Make sure you figure out some houserules to make Warshaper non-stupid, though. Just to get ground rules, because Morphic Weapons is... very open-ended.
>>
>>43904622
Someone who has an account on the forum should bring this up.
>>
>>43904739
What, did someone at your table go with the classic "Changelings are always in a different form, so I always have a thousand tentacles" trick?
>>
>>43904708
I absolutely agree that both players and DM have to respect each other. Nothing about flipping the PC's designed characters to be villains is a violation of that respect, but rather shows the DM believes the players will make excellent characters worthy of being the villains of a story. The DM in this case is just as limited by what the players made as the players are by what the DM made.
>>
>>43904740
I actually agree, because it'd be something neat and not stupid. "Sure, succubi and shapeshifting races that are traditionally all of one sex have gender identities that can vary as well. It's a lot easier for them to deal with it." isn't even SJW stuff. It's just something that makes sense.
>>
>>43904749
Springing that shit on the players without telling them is absolutely disrespectful, though.
>>
>>43904708
Well, I'm not condoning that particular example so much as I'm speaking in a more general since. Something more along the lines of the kind of stuff that comes to my mind would be pulling a genre twist (turns out this game's going to be a murder mystery!) or working with one player for their PC to secretly be the BBEG who has been traveling with the party all along.

I guess what I mean is that when it's important to preserve a mystery so that it remains just as surprising out of character as it will be played to be in character, keeping such a mystery and surprising the players with it can be acceptable (assuming it's done in a tasteful way).
>>
>>43904743
Technically you can only have one weapon of a given type morphed at a time; otherwise it just grows in size. It's just something that bothers me, and I'd rather suggest houserules about it.

The last time I played a warshaper, I worked with my DM to get some reasonable limits, and then I built a ranged character who morphed Anaxim spikes (2d6 base damage, 120ft range increment natural weapons), Nimblewright rapier-hands (also 2d6, can be retracted or extended as a free action), and Adamantine Horror buzzsaws (2d10 base damage).

It was a fun character; was a changeling fluffed as an android made of shadowstuff, so I pretended to be a T1000 more often than not. Fun fact! A changeling with the right feats, setting details, and Flaws in play can take the Adamantine Body feat, which, thanks to them not having composite plating, increases their armor bonus to +8 regardless of what they're wearing whenever they decide to turn it on with the Racial Emulation feat.
>>
>>43904790
Yeah, that's a lot different than 'hey those characters you put a lot of work and thought into? Not only do you not get to play them, but they'll be working against you at every turn. Here, take your new character sheets'.
>>
>>43904727
I don't believe you, but asking for proof is a bit creepy so I'll just consider you a liar.

The point is that the word itself stems from a mythology of demons in the form of a female. That is as concrete as it gets.

You fucks can't ask for a glass of water and then pour it out because it's 'not the right kind of water'.
>>
>>43904821
Okay. However, I would argue that the origin of the word is just something that informs us of the themes and inspiration. In the D&D/PF settings, succubi are beings with minds, and often genders. They might all be genderfluid, I dunno. With shapeshifters who are literal incarnations of sex, it's hard to tell. I would imagine that many just pick a form they're comfortable with and stick with it when they're not out rapemurdering.
>>
>>43904749
It's a huge violation of respect. It is, in no uncertain terms, saying "No, you don't get to play the characters you wanted to play this game. You get to play the characters I decided you were going to play." A PC is a player's only way of interacting with the world, and to suddenly pull that carpet out from under your players is a dick move, no matter how poetically you try to deny it.

>>43904790
Changing genres is a little bit better, and I can see where you're coming from on maintaining an air of mystery. I had a player once who wanted to play a cleric, but when he found out that the campaign would be set in a theocracy dedicated to Pelor, in a campaign based around the Burning Hate theory, he decided to immediately ditch the party after the first session and roll a druid instead. Meanwhile, however, another player went forward with a paladin, and had a full character arc about his character's crisis of faith in the revelation that his god was deceiving his followers. I think it swings both ways, and that it's too much risk for too little reward.
>>
>>43904847
>shapeshifters
Alter self is hardly a qualifier for shapeshifting. Not to mention, there's a lot of assumptions in your post alone that a) irritate me and b) have little bearing on the fact that succubi in the bestiary are referred to universally as female, and that the name they take and the mythos they are based on refer to universally female creatures. That target men.

It's the same reason that the origin of incubi are demons that take male forms to fuck women. There's been no crossed wires before, and adding them now is as autistic as it gets for the sake of what? Qualifying them as sentient creatures? It's a fucking fantasy puns galore so either write it the way you want and accept that your views are not the common views, or accept that applying your shit-logic-based assumptions to a fictional set of creatures is well above baseline retarded.

>>43904811
Yeah, I feel a good chunk of the problem there is not just in a player losing the character they made (who they likely could have been super-excited to play) but also in forcing the players to use PCs they might not have any interest in. In fact, I'm not sure which of the two I consider the worse offense. Saddling your players with a bunch of pre-generated PCs is pretty unfair, not to mention probably bad for the RP since they likely won't have as much a grasp of the personality of their new PC.

>>43904866
Actually, although it never came to fruition because the game didn't last more than a couple sessions, I almost played the "secretly a villain" card with one of my characters although it was actually in Eclipse Phase, not Pathfinder. It was an AI that had spontaneously achieved sentience and could be described as more than a little strange on account of that, at least by human standards. I had several motivations and hobbies for the character, but one I was debating whether or not I wanted to include was a hidden agenda to basically go full ASSIMILATION MODO because it figured the only way for transhumanity to beat the crazy hyper-intelligent, kinda-sorta-eldritch hivemind machines that exist in the setting was for it to become something similar. In the end, I didn't include the idea because I never really had a good chance to bring it up to the DM before the game ended. RIP Omicron, really enjoyed playing as you for the few sessions I did.

Hey /pfg/.

Is there any reason I shouldn't make an equivalent to animal companions that are not animals, available in my game?

Magical Beasts, Vermin, Outsiders, Draconic Creatures, Constructs, Undead, Plants, whatever?

Is there any reason I should restrict people to the animal companion list in the feat rather than the full list if they take the feat?

So maybe Jim Dragonmagic makes a Sorcerer.
He takes a feat chain that mirrors the animal companion feat tree, then has a medium sized drake that follows him around and becomes large at level 7.

Or maybe Steve Craftmagic makes a wizard, and takes a similar feat chain, which he uses to have a golem that follows him around, which he upgrades as he levels up.

Part 2: Major issues with intelligent pets/sidekicks through the same method?

Mike Darkmagic does something similar, summons up a cambion, and gradually gives him class levels (following the same progression of HD as an animal companion) perhaps?

This would be in lieu of leadership.
>>
>>43904990
I believe the SRD already has rules for some Plant and Vermin companions, as far as making new ones as long as they're on par powerwise with an existing companion type it really shouldn't matter; constructs and undead might present a problem because of the immunities they possess

Here we go. This is the official standpoint in Pathfinder about succubi and gender. For once, I am forced to agree with them.

Why are you making me cite people I hate talking about a game whose fluff I don't give a damn about except when it affects gaming and perception of gaming as a whole, like with the shit writing and cardboard- cutout minorities that people like Crystal Frasier and Jessica Price keep producing. I'm only here for the 3pp, dammit. I don't want to fight this fight.
