Hey, me and my friend want to start fantasy. What's a good (cheap) way to start? We're both fluff gamers and never go to tourneys, so that doesn't matter. I wanted to go beastmen or some type of elf (whichever is least terrible to play against) and he's probably going to go dwarfs. Any tips on how to do this cheap and fun?
>>
What actually are the human gods?

And what do people in Tilea, Estalia and Araby worship?
>>
>>43577131
Try to start with 750 points, it shouldn't be too expensive for beastmen (just didn't buy boar model it's ugly).
>>
>>43577151
>And what do people in Tilea, Estalia and Araby worship?
Not sure about Aradym but in Non-Europe Old World pantheon is main religion (except some local beliefs like Sigmar, Ursol and Lady).
>>
>>43577151
Morr, god of death, Ulric, god of winter, Randal (or w/e he's called), god of luck and rogues, Shallya, goddess of healing, Myrmidia, goddess of warfare, Sigmar, god of germans.

Tileans and Estalians worship Myrmidia and Shallya, Imperials worship mainly Sigmar and Ulric. Arabians probably worship Nehekharan gods, like Ptra, Usiryan and others (who, according to End Times, are just different names for Imperial gods, but we can disregard that)
>>

Ursol? I thought the main Kislevite deity was Ursun?

Okay so I am totally new to Fantasy so forgive me here, but I am tryna do a Warriors of Chaos army here. My two favorites from 40k are Thousand Sons and Word Bearers, and since there are no cultists/Apostles here for a Word Bearer style army, I decided to try to make a Tzeentchian Warriors of Chaos army akin to the Thousand Sons.

2949 points

>Chaos Lord - 702 points
Mark of Tzeentch
Great Weapon
Shield
Chaos Dragon
Third Eye of Tzeentch
Armor of Destiny
Dawnstone

>Exalted Hero - 250 points
Mark of Tzeentch
Disc of Tzeentch
Battle Standard Bearer
Third Eye of Tzeentch
Enchanted Shield

>Chaos Sorcerer - 290 points
Level 2 Wizard
Mark of Tzeentch
Disc of Tzeetnch
Third Eye of Tzeentch
Conjoined Homonculus
Enchanted Shield
Talisman of Preservation
Dispell Scroll

>3x 15 Warriors of Chaos - 275 points x3
Mark of Tzeentch
Shield
Banner of Swiftness

>18 Chosen - 377 points
Mark of Tzeentch
Shields
Banner of Swiftness

>2x Chaos Warshrine - 150 points x2
Mark of Tzeentch

>Hellcannon - 205 points

Not sure what to spend the last 50 points on. Anyway, plan here's that everyone does close range combat while sorcerer and hellcannon give ranged support. Oh and this is still for 8th edition not AoS btw.

I'd just start with the core book for 2nd edition. There's a third edition but it's difficult to play online and controversial in the WFRP community.

I GM a 2nd edition game and have compiled a player packet of all the most important publications, fan supplements, instructions on how to use them, and house rules that experience has shown me are improvements. You're free to take a look

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ruu3d89kd35ky8e/AAC3unZCQrk5QaPFe7dWpVFza?dl=0

Remember that WFRP is about creating a random character and exploring the story organically, not about making your ideal. It can be done that way but takes some of the flavor away.

What models are you planning on using? I see the Sorc has a Conjoined Homonculus; were you thinking Vilitch the Curseling?
>>
>>43577490
>Remember that WFRP is about creating a random character and exploring the story organically, not about making your ideal. It can be done that way but takes some of the flavor away.

Can you expound on that?
>>
>>43577553
Yeah I was planning on using a differently painted/equipped ViIlitch cuz the idea of the sorc is basically Vilitch but I don't think his stats look that great. Not sure what model to use for the Chaos Lord with all the gear he has. The rest has all typical Tzeentch stuff that's easy for me to do.

Oh and the sorc doesn't have Enchanted shield cuz that would be going over the magic item pts. rule. As a result I spent the last few points on giving my Exalted Hero Stream of Corruption, a Sword of Sift Slaying, and the Lichbone and Gleaming Pennants coming out to 2999 points.
>>
>>43577553
Oh and is his model placable on a Tzeentch disk? Otherwise I might just take a regular sorc and get him like a marauder or Vilitch arm for the CH.
>>
>>43577448
>>3x 15 Warriors of Chaos - 275 points x3
Don't think that so many warriors worth it.
Also, what's your plan on 2 warshrines?
>>
>>43577815
Of course. Just glue his feet to the disk. Since the model doesn't come with one it makes sense to just make your own. It's pretty simple, as pic related shows
>>
>>43577831
I need to hit at least 750 points of core units so that's why I have that many Warriors.

Plan with 2 Warshrines is gonna be all about strategic placement for them. I am obviously not as familiar with Fantasy tactics as I am 40k, and I am running Tzeentch based army so I gave them MoTs just in case I suck ass at placement. Meant mostly for Chosen pairing for some comboing.

>>43577888
Awesome. Yeah I already know my way around discs. One of my 40k armies is Thousand Sons with sorcs and heralds and whatnot on discs so yeah.
>>
>>43577206
Jesus christ. Randal? RANDAL? YOU MISTAKE THE ORIGINAL RNGESUS FOR FUCKING RANDAAAALLLL?!

You're also missing a few. Lemme drop some knowledge on anybody looking for the Original Pantheon of the Old World (sans Sigmar). I should note that Tilea/Estalia primarily worship Myrmidia. There are northern (german) gods and southern (greek) gods, but they're not exclusive.

>Northern
Rhya - Fertility Goddess. Wife of Taal
Taal - God of Hunters and Nature, Patron god of Talabheim (hence the name)
Ulric - God of Winter/Wolves/Warriors, Patron god of Middenheim, Younger Brother of Taal
Manaan - God of the Sea, Son of Taal and Rhya
"Mannslieb" - The Good Moon. Name literally means "Beloved of Manaan" because her movements pull him this way and that.

>Southern
Morr - God of Death
Verena - Goddess of Justice and Knowledge, Wife of Morr
Myrmidia - Goddess of War, one of Morr's daughters
Shallya - Goddess of Peace/Healing, Morr's other daughter
Ranald - God of Tricksters, Thieves, and Gamblers. A mortal who tricked Shallya into elevating him to godhood.
Khaine - God of Bloody Battle and Murder, Morr's younger brother.

>Can you expound on that
If you look through the Careers sections of the various books you'll notice that they are wildly imbalanced. You have a much better chance of randomly rolling a peasant, dung collector, rat catcher, charcoal burner, etc, than you do of a knight, soldier, wizard, or anything else traditionally useful. Still chances are that someone in your group will roll a better career than you. The reason for this imbalance and unfairness is that life is unbalanced, life is unfair. WFRP is all about taking lowly commoners, nobodies, and making them into somebodies. There's a reason that its mascot is the Rat Catcher career.

You can certainly let your players roll whatever they want, playing the more DnD way. But that distracts from the way the game was designed and its core intentions.

Eventually yes. Further on, they actually embody and are even healed by fire.

The winds of magic influence the very substance of the body, when you focus on one particular branch. Most commonly, you'd think of necromancers becoming pallid and sickly looking from basically soaking in death magic.

thanks for help, is it better to axe/ buckler on warriors or sword/ buckler on swrodsmen or both?

Heroes
======
Captain - 60g - sword, shield - 15g
Champion - 35g - 2-hand weapon - 15g
Champion - 35g - 2-hand weapon - 15g
Youngblood - 15g - sword, pistol - 25g
Youngblood - 15g - sword. pistol - 25g

Henchmen
=========
Swordsmen - 35g -sword, buckler 15g
Swordsmen - 35g - sword,buckler 15g
Swordsmen - 35g - sword, buckler 15g

Warrior - 25g - axe, buckler 10g
Warrior - 25g - axe, buckler 10g
Warrior - 25g - axe, buckler 10g

90g left over out of 600 (mareinburg get extra 100 in campaign)

I know thiers no ranged, but i think i can get in close and parry/reroll my way to victory

so, I don't recommend doing a perfectly optimized mordheim gang, because I think it's less fun, but here we go:
Drop all the bucklers/shields, you get parry from swords. replace them with maces, that 2-4 stun is top.
give everyone 2 weapons, ideally 2 maces or sword/mace.
I like giving my captain a helmet and two dueling pistols but that may not be optimal.
give your heroes helmets! thats the main bonus of marienburg imo, that you essentially get free helmets.
buy some damn ranged! crossbow if you have a high toughness meta, and bow if you are cheap/have rat troubles.
spend all your starting gold. just do it.

I was worried about having dual mace / sword, mace would be too pwoer gamey and make people mad (I've never played mordheim and this also a group ive just met) so i figured sword buckler may be more friendly.
I'll go add some marksmen to this and helmets
>>
>>43581249
if you don't want to power game, give your swordsmen shields. imo they're more flavourful than bucklers (the box has shields, not bucklers) and you can get that 6+ save (lame I know). also, you get parry from swords, so its ok

After reading a bunch about Imperial wizards, I have to say they don't sound like a fun thing to be, in an RPG or for real. The strictures of the College system seems to mean that the only viable way to play a wizard, in 2e anyway, is as a Hedge Wizard or related
>>
>>43584205
Playing a wizard just means you have to follow the rules of the Colleges and not shoot off your mouth at everyone you see. It's more about being subtle than a murder hobo. And if you play as a Hedge Wizard, you have absolutely no legal protection if someone finds out. The Colleges at least don't like the Witch Hunters cleaning up their dirty laundry.

It's always funny to see people say that GW forgot something.

GW decided that Shallya made more sense for whatever reason and went with her, possibly a combination Shallya being the truth behind Poxfulcrum and because Rhya seemingly hasn't been mentioned outside of old RPG books in years (Said books also apparently being her origin), though she does have a temple in Altdorf according to the map in Glottkin.

No, there are no stats for Greenskins, Dark Elves, Chaos Dwarfs, or Lizardmen. Every other intelligent race is represented, and even some of the races I mentioned have "fan" statblocks created unofficially by the original authors in their spare time. I have not seen any for goblins though

By lore dwarves don't cast magic because channeling it directly slowly turns them to stone.

There's chaos dwarves who have wizards, but they don't have any official army rules, there's some semi-official (as in I think I downloaded these off the GW website once upon a time.) and given that they keep slaves one could imagine they could have slave giant's in their army.

Nagash completely usurped human afterlife after nomnomming Usy. meaning he either nomnommed Morr off-screen, or Morr was Usy.
>>
>>43591662
The fact that Nagash suddenly controlled all Underworld and the fact that all the dead belonged to Nagash implies that Morr is ded.

Furthermore in the Realm of Shyish in AoS which is a collection of all Underworlds, there is a place called Morr's Fall or something, It's mentioned in the "Sands of Red" audiobook. It further implies that Mor no longer is with us.

Yes.

We want to know what happened to the Warhammer gods in the End Times.
>>
>>43591685

He usurped the Nehekharan Underworld, which again was never implied to be for anyone but worshipers of Usyrian.

Again, they likely couldn't really think of any role for Morr to play and so just didn't bother with him. You could also hypothesize that like Ereth Khial, Morr was somehow destroyed when Nagash tore Shyish free of the Great Vortex.

>>43591751

I'm talking about the End Times and more specifically the claim that Usyrian and Morr were the same being, no where am I arguing that Morr is still around in AoS. How Nagash gained control of all the underworlds is not documented, meaning that Morr could have been destroyed at any point between the End Times and AoS.

>>43591758

>Because..?

Oh wow, one edition. Doesn't change the fact that Cathay was really never focused on and was nothing more than background noise.

>>43591857

I personally don't consider it canon because it's obvious from a few things that the BL writers were not really involved in the process. There is no reason to take his writings as anything more than something come up with on a whim.

I gave a reason for why I believe certain things were not focused on in the End Times books, I never said a damn thing about what could or could not be talked about.

>Yeah, and chaos dwarves was nothing more than background noise.

Seems like they really were before FW did something with them in Tamurkhan, though you could argue that even then they weren't equal with the other factions.

How much insight into them did we really receive after they stopped getting books, other than that they were responsible for the creation and operation of Hellcannons and the forging of Chaos armor?

Particularly in light of the wage listings given in both the core book and OWA, many players feel that the prices for many common goods (such as slings and rowboats) are grossly inflated- by a factor of 10 or more. This has turned into one of those polarizing issues on the WFRP boards that gaming geeks love to turn red in the face over- on the order of the great 'would the Federation be able to beat the Empire' debates of the previous decades. And just like most of these debates, it's largely pointless. By and large, if you are just running a game and not worrying about the internal consistency of marginalia, you will never encounter any sort of real problem with the pricing lists. If you're intent on running a more detailed chronicle, say running a business and keeping track of every hay-penny your players spend, you might find yourself stressing out over the fact that, according to the published rules, only an Elector Counts can afford to buy or furnish a house, and only if he buys a small house and does it a little at a time.

The core book emphasizes that coin should only rarely be given as a reward, with influence, contacts, or items being much more appropriate for the setting. If you do want to reward coin then there are fan-made rebalances of the economy. I have not studied any to see just how their changes influence the game but I was just about to, starting with this one:

Too many variables, how experienced are they with RP what's the group size vs monster power, what are their classes what is the goal / setting of the adventure
iirc some of the modules had example exchange rates
>>
>>43602857
I assume you found this somewhere?

>>43602869
All fairly experienced in rp, and somewhat experienced or very much experienced with the setting.

Either of you something I could contact you with? It would be great to talk to someone about this.

The aforementioned review of OWA includes a dead link to a similar document, so I started googling and found that one and one other. There could be more, I stopped looking to analyze these two first. The other one I found unsuitable, but this one appears promising at first glance

And sure, you can contact me at the name field.

Anyone here bought from "Black Chapel Miniatures" before?

http://blackchapelminiatures.com/en/6-online-shop

I just found them and their models for Dwarfs, Empire, and Kislev are pretty spot-on. Fairly expensive though. Not sure how they compare size-wize either. Looks to be 28mm heroic but idk
>>
I'm sure I've seen it somewhere, but does anyone know where to find the rules for the ritual for a gold wizard to do the whole transmute body parts into gold thing?

well, they did bring Dryads back to S4, so they are really worth fielding now

also, with another Aspect (the one only general can pick) you get to give Dryads and Treekin standard bearers and musicians, so you can field an all-tree army.

>>43597857
that's what I thought

I wonder if it stacks though... take two Treemen, give them this aspect, have some S6 Dryads...

Assuming you're new. The Old Ones are explicitly stated to have created a planetary template ideal for the generation of life and, upon finding a suitable world, morphed the continents into roughly the same shapes.

oh my god

I'd forgive them for murdering WHFB if they really do this.

Wait, if LotR is Specialist game now... maybe WHFB will be specialist game too now?

bah, Australia always has everything upside down, they ain't legit enough for me
>>43603866
that's better, but still far from real deal

I'll cry tears of joy if some UK store really confirms it.

I love how this picture looks, and I love how absurd it is when you take a step back and just look at it. He's not just being a conan-like barbarian in nothing but a loincloth and greaves, smashing monsters in a massive thunderstorm, but he's literally surfing on the orcs.

>>43603899

Well, Blood Bowl at least.
>>
>>43603951

can't be no Mordheim
>>
>>43603951
I put it down to the success of their video game licensing that encouraged them to do it.

>>43603969
I'd shell out for some Sisters of Sigmar.

Nice, but go back to 40k general.

woohoo, Lady Atia confirmed it!
it's like christmas come early!

>>43604145
Blood Bowl is fantasy, no?
>>
>>43604145
Well yeah, but blood bowl just funny spin-off, unlike others SG it's didn't have hard connection with franchise.

>>43604143

>>
>>43604173
Well, have a good discussion in GW threads.
>>
>>43604185
So? I didn't see any mentions of WHFB.
>>
>>43604188
one of those "i'm pissed at GW so everyone should boycott them" guys?
sorry, don't share your sentiment.

>>43604195
I'm an optimist. Pretty sure there will be Mordheim and Man-o-war returning.
>>
>>43604203
Oh, I remember you, you are chiken-guy from ET threads. Still you didn't provode any mentions of WHFB what means the news is not related with thtead.
>>
>>43604217
chicken-guy was exactly opposite.
get your /whfb/ lore straight.
>>
>>43604225
Lolwut? Same posting "well guys, I knew that GW close your game, but please suport them, there is no reasons for panic or anti-GW posts".
Also, remind why we need GW Mordheim?
>>
>>43604249
chicken guy was about mocking us for "believing in rumors". which I'm opposite of, since I believe in rumor that Mordheim will come back

I don't see how "supporting" comes into this. They sell minis I need, I buy minis I need. There's no reason to shoot myself in the leg and deprive myself of minis.

And GW Mordheim will have accessible, plastic minis, which won't cost a wealth on ebay and which will be easy to make conversion with.
Also, it will be nice to try to draw my friends into a LIVING game for once. Showing stuff in proper webstore works wonders, when trying to seduce friends with tabletop gaming.
>>
>>43604266
You cannot find online stores with non+GW modles?
>Also, it will be nice to try to draw my friends into a LIVING game for once.
But you and your freinds already have AoS. Who need poor game-designed shit while current Mordheim looks much netter than Coreheim. So stop PRing dor GW.
>>
>>43604225
If you know a bit about your /whfb/ lore, then you would know that you're talikng to the slav warmachine troll,
>>
>>43604300
What?
>>
>>43604284
jeez, what has AoS to do with this?
why do you act like this whole thing has some "loyalty" or "principle" aspect to it? the fact I buy minis from GW doesn't mean I for some reason am interested in their other products. they just sell minis.

>>43604300
ah, I missed latest trolls, was away from 4chan
>>
>>43604313
>jeez, what has AoS to do with this?
Ot's good example of current GW game-design. But of course for few niche games based on franchise which was closed few months ago they will hire new, good game-designers.
>doesn't mean I for some reason am interested in their other products.
But for some reason you need new Mordheim with GW blessing (official status).
>>
>>43604362
To be fair it's going to be separate division, not GW.
>>
>>43603769
>tfw the specialist games team is composed by sculptors and developers unhappy with AoS
>tfw the specialist games team is going to prove how much WHFB and 40k can sell thanks to smaller games and videogame supports
>tfw old world miniatures survive thanks to the specialist games team
>tfw old world warhammer is saved thanks to the specialist games team
>tfw specialist games will be the most based GW thing
Let me dream
