Hey /swg/ what do you think of my character background for an upcoming eote/aor game, its set about 15 years after episode VI. Its a rough overview, but give any criticism that you can.
I had the idea of being an older test pilot for the Incom corporation on Fresia, helping test such fighters as the Z95 headhunter, arc 170, and other such ships during the clone wars. After the fall of the republic and the rise of the empire, he continued to work for Incom, but found the ever-increasing authoritarianism of the empire to be too overbearing. So he defected to the rebel alliance along with a few other Incom employees who sympathized with the rebellion, stealing several x-wing prototypes in the process.

A little cliche but not the worst I've seen You could also make him a maintainer and simulator junkie that got his first chance to fly in the escape operation, and turned out to be halfway decent at it. That lets you have some room for growth, as well as character conflict as he finds out what "real" combat piloting is like, and have a buddy-buddy "we both fix shit first and pilot later" feel when hanging with his astromech. Hell, he might have a closer attachment to the droids in the unit than the other people, and wind up being a sort of unofficial unit medic for the 'bots.

Why not have him be a ferry pilot? When a ship breaks (or the client wants it delivered), he's the guy who flies out a replacement. No combat flying (well, usually), just point A to point B. Most of Incom's stuff was hyperdrive-enabled, so it might be easier to send out just one ship with a ferry pilot instead of loading it on a carrier.

I worked as an avionics maintainer for a long time. We all stole whatever simulator time we could, to the point that most of our guys actually were capable of firing up the jet on our own - one of our guys >did< in 2000. The brass also occasionally calls in maintainers and tech-heads to do tests with new equipment from the point of view of the guy who actually knows what's going on inside those weird black boxes, and a lot of manufacturers use their assembly or repair guys as simjocks as well. Not saying that he can't be a pilot, but it would certainly be interesting to have him be someone, say, rejected by the Imp Academy for some disqualifying thing like height, politics, or a mild injury. Hired on with Incom, turns out to have talent on the stick during sim testing but the military brass won't let him fly for reals. When they bail, he flies cover as one of the few willing to defect who have stick time on the T-65, and the Rebs take him as a combat pilot based on his record during the escape and/or >assuming< he's one of the "official" test pilots (which he technically is).
Boom.
Reason to hate the empire, reason to love the Rebs, reason to be a former test pilot without having to blow all your character points on piloting skill, and some distinct character conflicts with room for growth during the game.

Well, it's got a top-of-the-line intel and ECM suite, it's the size of a Raider, and it has a spinal Turbolaser but little other heavy armament. Good command ship, but it's really on par with a GR-75 in terms of suitability for combat.

Ooh! Interesting idea. He gets instructions to deliver an X-Wing prototype to a client, very hush-hush. He figures its some corporate politics. What he doesn't know is that it's actually the Alliance, so their engineers can see if it fits their needs - and if it's worth launching the risky operation to basically boost the entire X-Wing production apparatus.
So he still plays a role i the theft of the X-Wing without having to be a dogfighting ace. He gets brought along for the ride, essentially, when Incom defects.

Actually, it's a photocomposite, done in 1986 or earlier, and was used as the frontispiece in the West End Games Star Wars 1e book. They just flipped the image and lightened it up; I'm pretty sure I saw it back in ~'85 being used in a promo item, but I was in first grade at the time so that's a bit suspect.
Note the blue underlighting on the B-Wings - it's an artifact of the processes LFL used in the RotJ era, and actually extremely hard to fake with CGI, They went through and cleaned it up in the Special Editions. You can also see the plastic edges inside the cockpit.
So, uh, don't go shooting off about CG unless you know what to look for.

There's plenty of great Star Wars comics both legends and canon. KOTOR/KOTOR 2 are awesome video games and so are the Jedi Knight games and force unleashed. Not much into the novels but I hear the X-wing books are awesome. Some people swear by TCW/Rebels; I personally have found them pretty hit and miss but there is some Star Wars gold hidden in the shit. I see it like krokodil to the movies' heroin.
Star Wars has great board games and RPGs now that FFG is in charge, hence /swg/ being good Star Wars talk and gaming talk. We also tend to be decent folk, barring TFA shitposting.

Although this is a good point. A lot of his artwork is pretty lacking. Many organic shapes are shortcut, as are pretty much all plants. His work works to emphasize the size of things, and he seems to love the architectural designs the most. Well she might well be a different faction pilot. The Rogue Shadow never actually fought alongside (in fact it mostly fought against) the Empire, since the standing orders were to teamkill any potential witnesses. So it'd have to be Rebel by default, after it swapped sides.
