Not really the place to ask, but... before I start to prepare, I'd kinda like to know... what kind of game would you all be interested in more?

Something in the style of super robot anime? Getter Robo, Mazinger Z, Gao Gai Gar, Gurren Laggan and all that. You'd probably all each get your own robot so combining like Voltron/a Megazord wouldn't be required.

Or a Digimon game because of Tri hype and the rules getting updated?

I'm mostly looking for a D&D 5E campaign. I have a couple character ideas in mind already for a druid, monk, or warlock character, but I can also make up something completely new/different if needed as well.
Also, I've only ever played custom campaigns with personalized worlds/universes before, so embarrassingly I don't know much about official D&D cities/worlds/etc.

Post it for scrutiny. People have been saying they don't like it, thus it's most likely shit.

Oh no, I never said my homebrew wasn't shit. It's just not *that* shit, and a blanket statement of 'lel its probably gonna be shit' is just edgy as fuck.

The real reason people didn't like my homebrew is because they didn't like the magic system or the rolling system, and many of them only wanted to play DnD instead of a different style of game. One was an SJW who got butthurt about a throwaway joke ability one race got for having a beard (+10% to reaction rolls) and since females couldn't grow a beard this was unbalanced and therefore he/she/it wouldn't play the game.
>>
>>44308092
There are players. Hell, I'm one. Keep at it, boss. I just had an absolutely shitty session IRL, to the point that I'm gonna bail on that group (bad times there for a month solid) and thus I'm in here, checking out what the SR5 scene is.

>One was an SJW who got butthurt about a throwaway joke ability one race got for having a beard (+10% to reaction rolls)

So, it's a shitty d100 clone, because we don't have enough unsuccessful d100 clones on /tg/, right? And it's also got ebin joge mechanics. Was your magic system needlessly pedantic and focused on realism too?

I dunno, was it a game where playing a mind-controlling serial killer who--and I'm comparing you to Jack the Ripper, here--exclusively preyed on women was appropriate to the setting, the group, and the game's themes?

Because "haha I mind-control people and then kill them hahaha" is kind of a fucked-up premise for a character. I can see it working for, like, KULT. Not so much D&D. Or Shadowrun. Or hell, not even Dark Heresy.

Wait, does Roll20 auto-watch topics made or threads responded to in the application forum of a game?

Because I'm getting the sinking feeling it only does sometimes or never. Can I at all look at the posts I made in the public listings? Because apparently that only works for the dev forums.

Fuck, this is SHIT design and I'm pretty sure I missed out on at least one game because the GM had a follow-up question and I just vanished.

The reason I'm asking is because I got in on a game (>>44306549 this one in fact) and the GM messaged me being all "Dude wtf you're in, WHERE ARE YOU" just now. Well, in more polite terms.

Hi! It's the "SJW" who dropped the game because it was terrible. I only ragged on the beard thing because it was hilariously cringeworthy.

https://warosu.org/tg/thread/36874990

Here is how he introduced his game.

https://img.4plebs.org/boards/tg/image/1417/20/1417209142490.pdf

And here are links to actual materials. This is how he presented things to us. He also didn't know how to even generate characters in his own system. He gave us like three conflicting sets of rules, and basically just kept screaming "NO COMBAT NO COMBAT NO COMBAT"

It's a horrific amalgamation of D&D, Ars Magica, and other crap.
>>

You know? It was months ago. Had to have been like during the summer or even prior.

Before he'd agree to show us the rules, we had to agree to play, and I was thirsty for games during the summer because I was in a dry spell. So I agreed. I left shortly after chargen began, when he deigned to show us his shit rules, and started accusing me of being a powergaming munchkin for pointing out weaknesses and exploits in his precious rules.

the game will be run via a forum where we all have accounts on. it works like a normal online RPG except that there are no strict session times: everyone can post in the game threads whenever they find the time to in their day, thus meaning that it doesn't matter if you're euro or american or in asia, every player will have a chance to post at their leisure. we'll be using simple d6

https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Simple_D6

here's a story prompt we have so far:

>"Creatures and figures of another world have found their way into ours, bringing along their magic, minions, and thirst for subjugation. The newly formed Gentlemen's Alien-Realm Immunation Arms, codename GAIA, is a secret international task-force of "immunes", people with affinity to magic and other-realmly forces capable to combating the threat. Can the fresh inexperienced everyday men and women turned soldiers hold the weight of survival? Will they be taken over by the forces of subjugation; or worse, will the reason they were "immunes" in the first place, be their destruction?"

The text is for descriptions and dialogue to avoid dat awkward shit, the voice is meant for combat but its all memes.

The memes too strong bros, you gotta help me

It might just be me, but I have found that voice+text is generally the shittiest in that regard.

With voice+text A) people will be lazy shitters that don't want to type and will just play a voice game even if the rest of the group is doing it right and/or B) most of the 'game' focus is on the text part so people are gonna fill the silence with shitty meming and other off-topic BS.

I personally prefer text, but I would take a voice-only game over voice plus text with an instant turn-off if they say the voice is for something like "bantz" or "hanging out", I'll naturally become friends with non-that guys who I play games with long enough, but the people who need to force it like that tend to be extra obnoxious.

If you shoot me a message on skype, I can send you all the game notes on the setting and such. It's all stuff regarding the setting and the like.

If you mean mechanics-wise, then Ultra-Tech, the Basic set, Psionics (If you're playing one), and maybe a bit of the 3E cyberpunk book if you want a bit of feel for the genre.

>memeing
>Bantz
>With text only, people are gonna be too busy typing shit up to really worry about memeing and that sorta shit.

Or they're gonna be taking extra long to type their shit up, because they have to go between usually two different chatrooms, they've got no quick way to clarify minor bullshit that needs to be adressed quickly in a practical manner and memes are still going to be a thing.

>And with voice only, the voice chat is actually focused on that game.

In all reality, all the off topic bullshit is going to resurface every now and then. It just happens less.

>With voice+text A) people will be lazy shitters that don't want to type and will just play a voice game even if the rest of the group is doing it right

What the fuck is even doing it right? Are there binary right or wrong methods of having fun?

B) most of the 'game' focus is on the text part so people are gonna fill the silence with shitty meming and other off-topic BS.

It sounds like you had a bad experience with my group, you're probably one of our rejects. But we haven't invited anyone new in a while. Now, if you think off-topic BS and memes during less intensive moments are the devil and don't justify the ease of clarifying OOC shit and minor details on the fly during particularly intensive moments. You've probably never GM'd a well paced game.

This is tailored for me, but I'll fucking bite anyway.

>with an instant turn-off if they say the voice is for something like "bantz" or "hanging out", I'll naturally become friends with non-that guys who I play games with long enough, but the people who need to force it like that tend to be extra obnoxious.

You seem extra autisitc, just saying. If you think wanting to talk to someone, for the organic instant response so you can actually get a read on the person is 'forcing it'. Well, I'm sorry to say, Anon. But you need to leave the basement more often.
>>

>voice is almost always inferior to text if you're not all located in the same room.

Why? Give me a good reason why having a bunch of fucktards in a chat room watching Youtube while one of them types out a bunch of paragraphs or everyone waits for the DM to slowly address one person's actions at a time is somehow better than ACTUALLY TALKING LIKE NORMAL PEOPLE.

>Say voice+text is the shittiest for off-topic memeing
>In all reality, all the off topic bullshit is going to resurface every now and then. It just happens less.
That's exactly my point? It's "the worst" at that, meaning it happens most often.

>What the fuck is even doing it right? Are there binary right or wrong methods of having fun?
No, I mean the group agreed on doing voice OOC + text IC and the one guy is not abiding by what the group agreed on. They seem to do it because they can't be bothered to do what the group agreed on even if most of the group is (or just want to preempt the people who are typing). It's "right" or "wrong" accord to the group's agreement, not any objective metric of fun.

>It sounds like you had a bad experience with my group, you're probably one of our rejects. But we haven't invited anyone new in a while. So if I don't agree with the way you play your game, I must
A) Personally hate your group,
B) Have been rejected by your group, and
C) Be a shit-tier GM
Now, I suppose A could be true, I've only played in a few text+voice games, they were all bad experiences and I guess one of them could have been with your group.
I know B isn't true cause none of those groups ever kicked me out, unless your group is full of passive aggressive shitters that "reject" people by making the game unpleasant enough for them that they drop of their own accord.
And I suppose C could be true if all my players were lying to me, and even if it WAS true, I can still have a valid opinion about game mediums as a player.

>wanting to talk to someone, for the organic instant response so you can actually get a read on the person
Then I'll play a voice game. Not some shitty hybrid that gets the worst of both.

Well, sorry Anon. Some people want to play a Text game without the problem that causes all text games to fall apart.

I know you think that you're going to become real friends with your text only group's non-that guys after six months. But I think you mean acquaintances, to be honest. And who the fuck wants to game with acquaintances?

Well gee. My acquaintances who I have played with for years without using voice were sure disappointed to hear we weren't really friends. Also that we didn't actually conclude any of our games, they just happened to fall apart right after what we had planned to be the last session.

And here's the thing. If I am here in this gamefinder thread, I am not going to be playing with my friends, or even acquaintances. I am gonna be playing with strangers, who will (Unless they are shitty flakes which happens no matter the medium) eventually become acquaintances and HOPEFULLY become friends after a while. While I might be willing to concede that having voice makes it EASIER, I would call you the autistic one if you can't make a connection with someone you've only chatted with though text.
>>
>>44330717
Not that anon, but let me give you a serious answer.

It's awkward. Voice games just honestly have a tendency to be awkward. There's nothing wrong with that, and finding them to be awkward doesn't make you an antisocial autist, it's just natural because you don't know any of the people you're playing with. Sometimes the group clicks and everyone starts chatting like friends and everything's fine, but sometimes the group just doesn't click and there are long periods of awkward silence as everyone waits for someone to step forward and decide what to say in-character.

The other problem is that some subjects can be really awkward to RP with voice. Say a character has attracted a villager's admiration and she tells him her feelings. It's kind of awkward to do that as a GM, especially if you don't know the people in your group personally. It's also awkward for the player, and as a result they tend to either go "oh...that's cool, I guess." Or they fumble around trying to think of how to respond in-character without sounding awkward, and that just makes it even worse.

Text games are able to avoid that because there's a certain disconnect that makes it easier to handle that stuff without feeling awkward. There are no awkward pauses, because it can easily be explained as the person just taking a bit to type a response. It is also significantly easier to RP things like the love interest scenario because there's none of that inherent awkwardness associated with it. It's also much easier to immerse yourself in the RP, since you're able to apply your own imagination and voice to things that happen.

The disadvantage to text is that it is, admittedly, slower than voice games. If the group isn't particularly social, it can also cause a sort of disconnect between players even if it does click, so it can sometimes be harder to see the people you're playing with as friends instead of just "the people I play games with on Fridays". That's not to say that it's impossible to see other players in a text game as friends, just that voice is a bit more personable and thus has an easier time of it than text games.

So yeah, text has it's flaws, but it's easy to see why some people prefer it over voice. The same goes for voice, it has it's own flaws but it's also easy to see why some prefer it over text. In the end, it all comes down to personal preference. I for one prefer text over voice, but that doesn't mean I don't see why some like voice games better. There's nothing wrong with liking one over the other, it's only wrong if you act like an autistic jackass and berate people for having a preference that differs from yours.

Talking with other human beings is not "awkward". YOU are awkward. You are the failure, not the game and not the people or the communication. You.

dude if it's awkward to him let him be.
and talking to other people is less awkward than just hearing their voices in a headset, because there is no mimics to go along with the voice. Human speech relies on that quite a lot actually, which is why serious meetings usually happen in person.

I'm not trying to prevent an autist from playing however they want.

I'm pointing out how filling a thread with "lol voice games so unnatural and awkward im a superior roleplayer cuz i only use text" is literally people feeling superior because they have crippling mental and social diseases.

>>
>>44333140
It's not a crippling mental and social disease to think that voice only conversations without the other person being present are somewhat awkward.

Especially when you have to ACT OUT something.
It's easier to give descriptions of the way some character says something in text, than to add "i say while smirking lightly" or such things after every line you speak.

You can do a lot with voice patterns and intonation of course, but unless you're a professional voiceover person or actor it's going to fall short of the optimal.

To be fair, most people are not A-class improvisational voice actors. Even normal un-awkward people will become awkward when trying to put on a voice as their character - or they'll put on no voice at all, and make their character sound out of place and boring.

Yes, surely lack of years of training is a solid reason to refuse to ever put in any effort or ever possibly try. You people are certainly well-adjusted and not in any way mentally crippled.

What is the need to do that, though? These are roleplaying games. They are not designed to require typing.
