Stars Without Number is a rules light sci-fi game, quite similar to oldschool D&D. The rules PDF is free and can be found with a Google search.

The initial focus of the game will be exploration, but the party will be free to set their own goals in a sandbox (starbox?) style sector.

Looking for one or two more players.

I'll be running the Lost Mines of Phandelver module from the 5e Starter Set. Please don't ask to join if you've already gone through it.
I'm looking to run the game for 4 players and I have 2 confirmed -- so only 2 spots left.
Everything from the Player's Handbook, Elemental Evil supplement and the recently released Sword Coast Adventure Guide is viable, with the exception of the Human Variant, Aarakocra and Flying Tiefling Variant.
We'll probably be doing Session 0 next weekend to build characters and talk shop.

As a GM: I am looking to run a series of one-shots for the Halo Mythic tabletop involving guerrilla rebels fighting off the colonial administration and UNSC. They may or may not be connected and might turn into a longer campaign. I could also be convinced to run Delta Green, Savage Worlds, Black Crusade, Night's Black Agents, and maybe some others.

As a player: CoC, nWoD, oWoD, Savage Worlds, 40k RPGs, Night's Black Agents, Exalted, Tremulus, Apocalypse World, Unhallowed Metropolis, GURPS, CB2020, WHFRP, Over the Edge, and others. I am also open to new things, and an excellent roleplayer.

>Additional Notes
The game has been running for 5 months, however we've had trouble with players and thus only been able to play consistently for the past few months, meaning the group is currently only Level 3. Your character will start at the same level, and I'll help you entirely throughout the character creation personally to make sure you don't get lost.

The setting is standard medieval fantasy, except the group is in the northern regions of the world which is more similar to Scandinavia. For those familiar with Hackmaster, the continent is called The Wild Lands. Our group currently consists of a Fighter, Cleric, and Mage so any class in the core rulebook is available to you as a player.

Hackmaster is very high-risk high-reward for combat, and thus the skill system is very vast instead to allow for less violent approaches. Recovering health takes significant downtime for major wounds.

I don't expect 100% perfect attendance, but I do however expect you to notify me in beforehand if you can't make it. If an emergency comes up however, then I understand.

If you're interested or want to inquire for further details, feel free to message me. All required material will be given.

This will be the first campaign I attempt to run, so don't expect expert level DMing. So yeah, I've really been wanting to run a campaign in the Attack on Titan world since I got into the series. The system is pretty rules light, so it's a good starting point. If interested just send an email, and just saying there's a good chance I'll have you create two characters, and you shouldn't get too attached to your character since it's kind of easy to die when you first start out.
>>
Question for GMs:

If a player lists their preferred system as "any" or otherwise says they will play anything, does this make you see them positively or negatively?
>>
>>43810183
Positively
>>
>>43810183
It means I won't consider them at all.
Someone who is willing to play any system is someone who isn't specifically interested in what you're trying to bring to the table. They're either desperate or apathetic, and neither is good.

I don't want ambivalence, I want excited players.
>>
>>43810427
So literally everyone I've been a GM for IRL has been desperate or apathetic, good to know

D&D 5e since I got the starter set, or Pathfinder. I have the rulebooks for both, but if you need another player and can tell me what shit I need to read I can find pdfs for other systems and play. Pathfinder and D&D are just the ones I have on hand.

I'm totally new and have never played a pen and paper rpg in my life, but I'm willing to learn and I've read up on what I do have. So, if you're willing to bear with me a bit I'll be glad to play. Pic related is what I'm expecting to happen.
>>
>>43810510
Well considering how clearly retarded you are, that would probably be an accurate assessment.

IRL is not online you fucking dork. You can control and gauge people's engagement level far easier when they're physically present, not to mention that just the very act of having to be out of your way to play means a higher level of commitment.
There are so many blindingly obvious reasons that doing "whatever" with friends is different than doing so with random chucklefucks (such as you) from this cesspit that you should be ashamed you even bothered to write that pointless shitpost.
>>
>>43810183
I wouldn't be contacting them. That said, I tend to run less popular/more niche systems and settings, including homebrew games. I'm assuming a good number of the 'I'll play anything' players might not be interested.

If I was going to recruit off gamefinder I'd probably just post that I'm GMing and hope self selection bias works in my favor.
>>
>>43810183
If the person says something remotely specific like "a medieval fantasy game" or "a space scifi game" then they can probably be worked with since they know what they want to play but they don't know what system. If they literally post "anything" with no more details, into the trash they go.

So the lessons I'm learning from these threads are

1. Don't post as a group of players looking for a GM
2. Don't post as a player without specifying at least one kind of game you're interested in.

Both of those are rules for players. Are there any things a GM should do or avoid in his post?
>>
>>43814667
this >>43814337
>>
>>43814667

GMs should put as much info on their game as possible.

A system isn't enough. Put a game premise too, and tell us something about yourself. Otherwise, when I see "Running X module", or "Running Black Crusade", I have no idea what to expect from you, which wastes both your time, and the time of prospective players who find out later that you're doing something they aren't into.

Also be more detailed about schedules in general.
>>
>>43814667
Give some basic info on what your campaign is going to be like instead of just posting the system, especially if it's a big system like D&D. Some guy might show up wanting to play Bob the Fighter when you're running a game about diplomacy and nobles or some shit. It wastes everyone's time when you're not up front about what type of game you want to run.

Pretty much what the other guy said.

D&D5e is going to be a non-stop hub-based dungeon dive.
Star Wars Saga is still up in the air, as there hasn't necessarily been a lot of interest.

Alright in light of the posts made below me, I'd like to update our post on systems preferred.
We've played DnD 4e before, along with oWoD, and we also had a look at the PF books, but the game never began so we've no practical experience with that.
The type of game we're looking for is sort of a general game you know? Medieval fantasy, sci-fi or something like that, just so long as it's fairly straightforward.
What I mean by not straightforward would be something like an evil campaign or something like that. We just want a normal, standard game to get us back to the swing of things.

Hi, I'm currently still looking for about 2 more players to join in our current campaign, who are decent writers/role players and can post at least once or twice a week. As mentioned above it is a homebrewed d20 system that has slowly been shaped and influenced by player choices over the course of several campaigns with a lot of influence from popular series such as Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica, Firefly, Starship Troopers Mass Effect and a little dose of 40k. We have 5 classes each with unique mechanics and skills spread out between 11 different skill trees and most abilities tailored for the way you want to play your character.

In the current campaign, the party is a group of outcasts, mostly psykers who escaped from a government training facility who now want to build up their power base so they can form their own sovereign nation for other psykers. They just arrived on a pleasure world owned and developed by various underground and crime organizations in the hopes of selling off their ship and getting their hands on some credits so that they can abuse their powers to get more.

If you guys have any other questions, email me or leave a post on the forum and I'd be happy to address them. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Why do so many people hate using their voice on the internet? It's only a voice, who cares what you sound like as long as we can communicate decently and well.

>>43835514

Mostly, I prefer the asynchronous nature of text that lets me go back to what people said 30 or more minutes previously in the session, and also the ability to edit my posts to sound decently, while thinking about what I'm going to do next without worrying about a super-long pause.

I try to be the friendly Gm. That doesn't mean I'll let you get away with anything though. A bad mistake is still a bad mistake. The key thing for an L5R Gm to remember is the difference between character knowledge and player knowledge. No Samurai would put accidentally call his daimyo "Daimyo-chan", but a player might make that mistake. In that case I'd out of character correct the player and let them say that correctly.

Is that a con? I mean, I don't think anyone plays RPGs outside of private rooms whether text or voice.

Also one of the things I like about voice is that the players tend to be more attentive, at least in my experience. If everything can be checked in logs then they can just hurriedly check it when they're called to and fuck around with other shit in-between, whereas with voice they need to listen to not miss things.

The thing I've realized is, as much as text players insist they are the "superior roleplayers", they actually detest roleplaying. They hate the concept of not just playing a character, but actually staying in-character for all or most of a session. Which is why they rely on text games, so they cant watch TV, play video games, and otherwise tune out until it's time for them to read up on what they need to know and spend 2 minutes pretending to play a character.

Their arguments are literally "Books are the superior form of acting because you don't have to worry about bad actors".
>>
>>43836546
>they actually detest roleplaying
I think that's an unfair conclusion. I generally stick to text, and try to stay immersed and constantly in character as I can. It's just that having roommates and such makes voice hard to do, and I do like the bigger and more flavorful descriptions that generally come with text.

Believe me, it makes me furious when even in text people aren't devoting more or less all of their attention to the game.
>>
>>43836699
>I think that's an unfair conclusion.
Any generalization about either text or voice users is. It really just comes down to personal preference.

If people are making one sentence replies or statements, they aren't doing things right.

That's my biggest gripe with voice, actually.

"I talk to that guy".

There are too many minute details about body language and tone of voice which are more easily covered through text than conveyed through voice.

So all you ever see in voice games are "I WANT TO HIT ON THE BARMAID", or "I DO THIS", and you never see anyone do anything complicated, or subtle.

All opinions are welcome, just add me on Skype.

One of the further advantages of text games is that it weeds out all the low-effort people and idiots(illiterates).

Voice is low-effort, so you see a lot of mouthbreathers eager to get in on the action to boost their faux-nerd lifestyles.

By excluding voice, you exclude those people.
>>
>>43844013
Except that alot of text players just want an excuse to not pay attention 90% of the time because they can't actually communicate or pay attention.
>>
>>43843904

Google was the first thing I did. Maybe the problem is that I'm too picky when trying to find a map.

I just don't use maps.

On the subject of voice v text, a friend just told me that that she was scrolling through my Instagram and was surprised by how hard she was laughing "because you're not this clever in real life"

So I'm going with text

Oh... if I were to run a game it'd be pathfinder in a homebrew setting. Most races would be unavailable and some content restricted (mostly some divine caster stuff), mostly to fit the setting. I'd be running it as difficult and deadly, something were ill planning and lack of tactics will kill you, and where the enemies have the same access to things that players do.

is anybody playing right now? that i can get in on

Open to most. Less crunchy/mechanical, lighter rules, more story is usually more enjoyable for me but I'll try anything. I'm inexperienced, have played occasional rpg's all my life. Would study a game system beforehand if requested. Please contact if you need a player.

Do it man, no one will know if you're bad or not.
If you're worried about having too many players don't worry because 50% of them will flake before the first session. By the second session 20% will be left.
If you keep up with it eventually you might be left with 3-4 decent players.

>the more intelligent form of roleplay is the one that requires less intelligence
Text has the benefit of having a far lower barrier of entry in terms of required conversational ability and internalization of language, but that doesn't make it more intelligent. It just makes it easier to appear intelligent, as you are no longer bound as heavily by the constraint of time.

Flexible on the system but I'm looking for a fantasy game. Unfortunately the only system I already know well is D&D/Pathfinder, so for everything else I'll need to take some time to study the rules - which I'm more than willing to do.

Again, I'm not as much interested in the system as in the campaign and themes. Dark fantasy is my preferred flavour, but also weird fantasy, barbarian fantasy and, well, I can also settle for more 'vanilla' heroic fantasy.

Alright, fine. I'll start messaging some of the people in the thread.
>>
>>43859197
what system are you running?
>>
>>43859244

DnD Basic. I love homebrews so I can't resist shitting on a perfectly fine system with my own nonsense.
>>
I guess this is just to gauge interest.
I have two settings I'm interested in running.
1: Pathfinder, must be a non-human or preferably "monstrous" race. The Evil *Human* Empire is engaged in a strategic war against the various races of the land and they're winning. You start as a refugee herded into a camp on the border of Human Lands, and the story picks up from there (hint: it's a conspiracy).

Alternatively: I wanted to run mutants and masterminds, gritty edgedark 90s anti heroes BUT fighting against Silver Age silly villains. And then there's a big twist. It was going to be "dark and mature" but in a realistic deconstruction way, not a "TORTURE AND TITS" way.

>>43859497
Both of these sound dope as fuck.

Burning Wheel

Other systems I like: Torchbearer, Dungeon Crawl Classics, Labyrinth Lord, FATE, Battletech, and others

>Times Available (with timezone!)

most likely saturday afternoon/evening (GMT -8)

>Method of Play (Skype, IRC, roll20, etc)

Combination of skype and roll20. I prefer voice because it's most similar to playing irl but it seems like most people on /tg/ prefer text so I guess that's fine too.

>Contact Info

skype: burninggm

>Additional Notes

I realize this is a niche system; I'm not looking for experienced players but interested and dedicated ones (although if you do have BW experience by all means contact me). I will provide pdfs and I will walk players through character generation as well (which will likely take 1-2 full sessions).

I run very character-driven games, I expect the players to forge their own path. I aim to make my settings as a playground with internal consistency and then let the players loose. I tend to lean towards strange/dark fantasy (not as in grimdark) and I like to make stark worlds where life is hard, I also have a bit of a Conan streak. In Burning Wheel I usually run a roleplay-heavy game where combat is rare but very intense/dangerous.

I have several campaign concepts in mind, typically I will pitch multiple ideas to the players and let them agree on one that resounds with the whole group.
