And there's nothing better than sitting at the park and having a beer.
But to answer your question, I'd say I watched probably 100-120 games a year when I lived in the US. Probably only 30 or so now because of the time difference.

for me I go through phases of intense watching/following of my team with bouts of passiveness in between where I'll leave the game on the tv while studying, cooking, whatever or have the radio broadcast on when I'm driving / chilling. I try and listen to bits and pieces of most games. MLB.tv means I can always catch big games I missed later.
My radio station carries the games so i can catch parts in the car.
The dodgers have been in the playoffs every year so my team is never really out of it.

stub hub. season ticket holders for my team have an accounts they can access online and it's linked/partnered with stubhub so you can just click like two things and list them automatically.
I also bought reserved parking which is only offered to STH, which you can make money off of. It's $12 a game, but since its hard to come by it resells for a lot. I sold my reserved parking for yesterday's home opener for 75 bucks.
If your team is somewhat decent season tix are the way to go because you can save a lot of money one the games you go to. I spent about $4000 for a pair, but after you take into account all the resales you pretty much break even.
But yeah, you do have to have that initial funding for the free baseball.
