Blacksite Quest, but apparently this board is SFW. Think a porny, heavy metal Dark Souls or Diablo.

>What kind of a Quest would you like to run after you're done with your current one?

Toying with two ideas, one is a Knight & Witch story taking place in a world that's entering their industrial revolution. Dealing with corrupt Parliament, psychotic suffragettes, and being the last vestiges of the Old World being swept away by the type of Progress that doesn't really change anything.

The other is a international gang of Thieves and Ruffians in San Francisco, 1900. Who have to pull a grand heist to stop a Secret Society that dabbles in the Maybe-Real-Maybe-Spiritualist-Nonsense Occult. Emperor Norton, and other historical guest stars are set to appear.

> QM question

I feel like the current quest I'm running will go on for a very long time, but once it is done, I want to run something based off of the Bartimaeus Series books (Amulet of Samarkand, Ptolemy's gate, Golem's eye, etc.) That center around a 1800's era time period - wherein the upper levels of government in most nations are comprised of a 'hidden' orders of mages that get their power by basically summoning demons and enslaving them to do crazy shit for them.

I want the PC to be a magician (mage) who just finished his training and starting with his first real summoning - and then let the players decide where to go from there whether that is climbing the ranks of the U.S government, or going freelance terrorist/mercenary/pirate/freedom fighter/whatever-the-fuck they want.
>>
>>206655
Wow I didn't expect to see someone on here who read that, let alone run a quest on that series. Would fucking looooooovvvvveeee this

but let's keep being zerg for awhile you're really good at writing that quest

Im trying to draw my own map and at least some characters for my quest, I just feel like having one with only text and stats ends up being pretty boring, Im by no means an artist but something is better than northing.

Anyone has any advice about how to draw mountains from this perspective?
>>
>>206677
Had a couple ideas of what to run for a quest since it seems like this board runs rather slow...

>Starcraft Terran Quest
Basically running around in a AU version of stracraft that is based around one of the colony ships that was heading towards Korpulu getting sent off into deep space into entirely new areas of Space. Was unsure if I should try to do my own ayy lmao's or use a crossover type thing for aliens to mess with. Mc would be based of player choice and use 3d20 for rolls, most likely be dealing with the corrupt and ass hole governments that rule the people, or just wander through star systems.

>Warcraft Quest
I wanted to try messing around with the Azeroth that wasn't invaded by the orcs that created Warlords, see what would happen with no orcs on the planet to see if the Burning Legion would find it once again and cause havoc...Most likely the MC would either be Jaina Proudmoore and the players could decide what path she takes, OR their own MC to decide. I was thinking that the endquest boss would most likely be Mediv since he wasn't able to use Orcs for shock and awe times.

>Roman Demigod Quest WIP
I'd like to do something with a Demigod MC that has to learn to be a hero, go on Quests/Errands for the patron God and the shenagins that come with it. Might play it out around the time the coming of Christianity was going around leading to the demigod to have to deal with mortals running around with one claiming to be a god.
End Game might be having a major show down between the Roman Gods and This new single god that is actually some Cthulu tier Old One that is trying to breach this realm.

Any ideas on what would be best to persue? I haven't done a quest thread myself as Op, but I've read loads of Archived ones and others as well. Think I just need to fix my writing skills to better reflect the story I want to tell.
>>

Still planning out my super powered dungeon crawl quest. About half-way done with all of my character building. Promised myself I would do another 1/4 of the total today, on my day off, but I lied

Plan to run this on eventually

To get some feedback though, its looking like the average age of the group is about 20, with only a handful of them being underage and only a handful of them being older than 30. My rationale is that in this world, the powers manifest around the time you become an adult, and most people who make it to 30 dont get caught at all. Havent done all of the world building, but I plan to have the powers be a relatively new advancement, stemming from a virus created by experimentation during WWII (havent decided which side did it yet). I plan to have some sort of physical indicator that can be tested for, but be extremely difficult to do. Something like looking at brain matter or their heart or something. Probably have something to do with red coloration too, because I want to hijack the term "Red Scare".

Thoughts?
>>
>>206811
Also, does anybody have a good name for the quest? Im trying to think of something that isnt too esoteric, because I want people to have a decent idea about what the quest will entail just by reading the title, but I havent come up with anything that rolls off the tongue.

As a reminder for anybody who hasnt taken any notice of the guy rambling about maybe running a quest in the future, it will be a quest about a group of young-adults who get shoved into a dungeon of sorts, though it is actually looking to be somewhat similar to a game show at this point. There wont be a studio audience or anything, just have the thoughts rolling around in my head about an announcer guy who taunts the group to keep things interesting. He will also have the power to arrange certain parts of the dungeon to make things more interesting, if things start to get too stale/solved.
>>
>>206817
Sounds decent I'd give it a chance. I would suggest lengthy character creation though, just as a heads up. And make sure you get a twtitter account if you decide to run, that way you can notify your fanbase when you are running and link them to the thread.
>>
>>206827
Why would I do lengthy character creation? I dont want my quest to die right off the bat. I am going to give them an option of how they want to play it (Brute force, taking time to plan everything out, or doing shit and hoping to get lucky), and then give them a choice between two or three premade characters that are well suited for each of those styles.
>>
>>206827
what?? noo... creativity is one thing but forcing creativity is another. Characters shouldn't be made, they should be grown. let is be organic in the character development.

>>206837
don't give them those kind of options, just let them choose what ever and they'll attune to what kind of play style they want. Just give them a character with no 'real' background but with some type of personality, Could make the MC a telepath and that is how he gets the ideas from the anons. Don't force a play style either. Let them choose what they want.

>>206811
>Names for quest
fancy names don't really mean anything to an anon when skimming through the catalog. keep it simple. Main elements must be hinted at in the title. Something like 'Ability Brawl' or 'Dungeon of Heroes and Villains' ect.

I asked you before but you ran off to /tg/. You were asking for help on abilities, do you still need help? I asked you to list the ones you already have picked.
>>
>>206779
Ah yes this is good, thanks!
>>
>>206837
>>206873
Typo, I meant to say that I wouldn't suggest it. Death of quests and all that.
>>
>>206873
I disagree. I would prefer to set the tone of the quest right at the start rather than have to deal with flip-flopping for the first dozen threads, especially on a board like this, where people are naturally all over the place.

Also, I think you are misunderstanding the basis of the quest. It isnt a tournament or a battle to the death. It is a dungeon crawl. Bunch of people get shoved into a cave, told to get from point A to point B if they want to survive. Then there is a series of conflicts because of what they think is the best way to survive, the group splinters into several smaller groups, and then the quest picks up there. As for the powers, Im trying to keep at least a certain level of mystery. I posted a full list of descriptors in the previous thread or something, but Im trying to avoid just outright saying all of them.
>>
>>206899
>battle to the death
'Ability Brawl' was just a suggestion. I remember you saying you wanted to make it have many political type aspects within the quest. I was thinking of a more brash sounding name. Though 'Dungeon of Heroes and Villains' still fit in a way that they all have abilities or superpowers and they all are trying to survive a dungeon. Some are more reliable than others and some hate others.

>level of mystery
I totally understand. I would hate to have all my players understand and know every little crevice of each character beforehand.

>flip-flopping
The idea of a character with too much personality does not allow the anons to put their will into the MC. As in if you were playing a character like tony stark and you have a few decisions, some are like captain america's and some are like Thor's and some are even like Hawk's. You wouldn't necessarily know the correct option because the character has conflicting personalities. It would be much more simple to have quirks like fearing public speaking or fearing spiders or loving to talk to shy people. Nothing that would make something impossible but something that encourages a certain style of play.

Lets say you have a character, her name is Amber.
She is: Shy, Loving, Fearful, and Grudges.
So you have a sort of personality. But the character will act in a certain way the player may not anticipate.

Amber is asked to go help either a group of people being attacked by large creatures or a single character making a tent. The character belittled her in front of another group of characters. Her friend helped her. The friend is being attacked and the douche is making a tent. She is fearful of the large creatures but she wants to help her friend. She hates the douche, but there are no large creatures to be fought, and if she fights the large creatures she will be looked upon. Making her shy.

There is a different flow of ideas and how things work instead of saying the MC is a person who likes to stay away from conflict. Another MC likes conflict. Another likes a balance of conflict.
>>
>>206955
But "quirks" are the basis of any personality. I mean, from your example alone, the character would basically never ever cross a tightrope over a 30 foot drop into lava. And that is just from one trait, fearful. There isnt anything wrong with some actions being completely inappropriate for a character, regardless of what the character is like. The only time players should be given completely free agency over what the character is able to do is in a "blank shell" game, ala 30% or so of the crap on here, where the character has basically no personality at all.

The way I see it, having anything short of a completely-set-in-stone character is good enough to run a quest with. Players do not need to be given complete agency for a quest to be good, even if they seem to think so. You can see this in some of the more popular quests featuring a ton of railroading, for example Larro's stuff and Questy's stuff. Peter had an excellent bout of Chargen, but he has absolutely been in character the whole time, despite plenty of suggestions to the contrary. I dont have the kind of player base to do it in the same way, so my option is to be a lot more obvious in my railroading.

And its not as if a premade character isnt capable of changing over time. It just has to be that- over time. One slightly out of character moment at a time, rather than a dozen completely out of character events in rapid suggestion. But as always, the trick to railroading without making the players feel like they have no choice is to not give them a choice when I am going to choose anyway. Players choices will matter, absolutely, but I wont be asking for their input on every single little thing. Just when there would be a reason for the character to do one thing or the other thing. Because thats what being a QM is all about.

Quest pitch:
In the aftermath of the Royal Family's assassination at the hands of a mutated Witch, the knightly order of Witch Hunters is subjugated to heavy public fire. The people cry out for their disbandment and justice be brought upon those who failed their King and Queen.
While the current sitting Parliament is quarreling among themselves, the Witch Hunters decide to follow all the possible leads the mutated witch left behind in her wake.

One of the leads brings two Hunters, rivals and friends alike, along with the rest of their company to a seemingly abandoned village. This will mark the start of a bloody and nightmarish journey as the company of Hunters try to survive and use the clues all around them to find the Witches' Home.

I've always wanted to run a spore-esque game. It starts as any regular evo game as bacteria and sea critters. Once the critters move to the land, a new evo game is started, with four land creatures evolved in the sea-episode. Regular evolution continues, until 1-3 critters have achieved tribal intelligence. From there on, it turns into a culture evo, until a certain level of tech is achieved. Once this has happened, one tribe, or combination thereof, will become city-esque, and it will turn into a EUIV-ish world conquering thingy. Once one faction has complete control of the world, the space stage begins, which is colonizing, adventuring and all that shite.

Possibly, multiple games could be run at once, or in succession, and their space-stages are one intertwined game.

Any interest in this? I know it sounds overly ambitious, but I think it would sure as hell be fun.
>>
So it begins again.

A brand new story of death, spirits and swords!

An adventure filled with battles, justice, courage and guts!

Enter! A new guardian of the dead! Bad Spirits beware, for my name is-...!

So does anybody know why there are still one or two quest threads in /tg/? Are there just too many threads here already, or...?
>>
>>207719
>knows shit
I never said I did. I'm just suggesting things like he asked. Most of my suggestions make sense in a story, which is why I'm suggesting them. There is no standardized way to go about questing and or making a quest so putting up ideas and discussing them is the only way to move forward in anyone's experience or knowledge of said questing/quest making.

It's quite funny coming from someone who is not adding anything to the current discussion.
>>
>>208184
Put the rape scenes in pastebins and call it a day. If people wanna read what happens during the "fade to black" then they're free to do so.

>>208195
Let me explain, anti-questfag: /qst/ is still a trial board, which means it's optional to run a quest here or not. /tg/ is still open for quests until the mods let us know whether or not /qst/ will become a permanent board. If it doesn't, quests will return to /tg/.
>>
>>208195
I've said it before, it's because they don't want to change either the fear of change or the fear of losing players from the migration.

>Quests are not all run the same way
If that's what you thought I said, then you've clearly mistaken what I meant. There's certainly a standardized way to go about questing, but does that mean every does it or everyone MUST do it like that, like you're implying I said? No. Calm down.
>>
>>208227
Nah, just tired of this weird zealotry for "QUESTS ALL FIT THE SAME DEFINITION" that qtg's have had for years
>>
>>208231
I'm not going to start a conversation/argument with you if you can't even calm down, but there's a pretty clear definition of what is and what isn't a quest. If you claim that games like Risk, Free form RP, Skirmishes, and Cultural Evos are Quests (Which I'm not assuming that you do), then I'd like to point you back to your earlier statement.

Look at the /tg/ archives for years back. There's your proof. I won't say every single one of the quests has run in the same way because mechanics come in the way, but they definitely hold more than a little resemblance in how they're run, you cannot refute that.

>>208287
>Arguing with him is like arguing with a dementia ridden racist, they aren't gonna do anything but spout senseless shit and reminisce about the good old days
If that's what you think I am, then that makes you the ignorant libtard of questing, yes?
>>
>>208295
>There's your proof.
That is no proof. I asked you to point out the direct link to where it is defined and you gave me a broad and vague answer to waste my time.

Burden of proof lies with the claimant. Show me where the STANDARD way to run a quest is and you have won this argument. if not, then you are rambling with empty words.
>>
>>208307
I just did. If you refuse to simply look up the archives and see for yourself the countless of examples that proves you wrong, then you weren't really invested in the argument in the first place and is just here to stir up shit for no reason whatsoever.

>QM question:
>What kind of a Quest would you like to run after you're done with your current one?

I want to try a fixed-layout dungeon drawquest and see if players can quest their way out of it. I would have some templated corridors/rooms etc and draw the unique parts so it could be a really quick turnaround on the art. Not sure whether to do this within Jara or as a whole other thing with a different tone. I have an idea for a dungeon set into the side of a shattered mountain, with lateral thinking and exploration of internal/external spaces being necessary for success. A backstory that is implied by the environment but never explicitly stated.

Not that I'm itching for the Jara quest to be over, I'm having a good time drawing it and watching the chaos unfold. I just wish I could do it 8 hours a day instead of 2 or 3 every other day.

So....is this an alright perspective to take if it was ever put in the OP pastebin?

It is an opinion. One that I agree with, but there is nothing that makes your opinion more correct than anybody else's. Not really the kind of thing that needs to be portrayed as some sort of standard. Even if I agree with it.

I'd like to mention that hexographer is a pretty useful tool for doing quests. There's a free version because nobody wants to pay for that shit
http://www.hexographer.com/free-version/
>>
>>210486
Aye. This method and versions of it have been used by everyone from SM to Hexer on the official sliding scale of QMs, and from Blorp to QuestDrone on the Z axis of van tevoren said scale. Even planefag, EGO, and Soma do similar things, although much more focused. It's a characterization tool that good RP'ers use in tabletop for their own characters and what forever DM's do for their more changeable NPCs. Motivations spread among surprise write-ins with quick reactionary support, a neato thing unique to quests, notwithstanding. In other words p gud shit desu phámpeí.

I run a shitty little Bleach quest called Shinigami Savant and a shitty littler Gundam AU quest called Shadows of Zeon, rebooted from the first quest I ran when I had zero clue what the hell I was doing.
>>
>>211654
Oh I get the trip now.

Huh.

So you went from ridiculous harem to reverse trap yuri and now you're rebooting/continuing your first quest?

I think you've already explained multiple time all the things that went wrong in your quest so that's just boring.

But, uh, how you liking the reboot? Good feeling bout it?
>>
>>211679
Well when you put it that way... but yeah, I'd say so. Threads without actual combat are a fair bit slower than I've become accustomed to, but not in a bad way. I'm also enjoying the chance to spin a different narrative without the baggage I picked up from the previous entry, using two of the characters I enjoyed writing and whose futures I felt would be interesting to explore.

Were it not for real life being a constant bitch I'd probably be running more often. But I guess we all get the curse at some point, and it's now my turn.

In my defense, as a fragment with only partial memory and personality early-quest Riku wasn't a lesbian. Her inner Hollow got her sexual preferences: the waifu just kind of worked out that way for reasons various.
>>
>>203023
Hey /qst/! Aspiring QM here, was wondering how you guys are able to judge what kind of quest people might want to play. Or do you guys just make whatever and hope it sticks?
>>
>>212051
Fanfic quests of popular series generally do well.

Things about anime girls or magical girls tend to do well.

Things that seem like they will lead to yuri or harem shit tend to do well.

There's a sizable crowd that loves da numbuhs and sperging about customization.

Slice of Life has a good following.

Run on /tg/ if you want a bigger crowd.
>>
So, how would you guys feel if a QM had Multiple quests that all tie into a single world? Each quest you will learn about another part of the history and background of the universe.

So lets say that we have a quest about a Man. His journey will shed light on events from the past or predict events in the future. Then there is another quest about a group of people. These people are in the same world but follow a different task and will follow the same rules as before.

I've been wanting to continue my Demon Invasion series but lately I've been wanting to do work with other characters but still maintain the same world. I've been thinking about creating an entire world with many basic creatures and have ideas from different worlds to help explain a bigger plot hidden within what I've been doing. This will help with not wasting resources on explaining in depth about the world if I'm to leave it the next quest I start.

So summary: Multiple stories that are placed into the same world that will all tie into an over arching story that weaves into each story a little bit at a time.
>>
>>212271
do it, it's never been done before.
>>
>>212271
If you try and run them all you will get bored of some or literally go insane.

Try it if you want though, but it might be easier to run lots of short quests that advance a shared world. You can always revisit the characters that didn't die for a second adventure later, it's just neater for them to finish a story arc before you start a different one with another character.
>>
>>212271
Great idea that has been proposed before but I've never seen anyone do it, but it should probably be done by someone else than a nu-QM.
>>
>>212461
>nu-QM.
I agree. I was wondering if anyone wants to spend time to help others improve writing. I started QMing late April and making a move like this would surely bring in more players but I'm unsure about me actually able to execute it as well as I would like to. If anyone will post some top-end quests that would help me exponentially when I do pull all the strings together.

Current quest list: http://pastebin.com/dKG1CGDk

>>212450
I was really wanting to help develop another piece of the story before I comeback and write more on my main quest which is currently in a time skip. The whole idea was to start on another character, 'the young man' from the beginning of my quest and show what happened after he jumped through the portal. Admittedly I began to get a little bored after the lack of players I got with it so it went on hiatus as I thought of ways to fix the story other than complaining about it as I did after it died which I apologize profusely for. The 'main' quest would feature a double perspective of both 'hero' and 'villain' which I originally wanted the idea to be somewhat secret though now most people who followed the quest may not be as active as they were.

>run them all
The multiple quests wouldn't be ran at the same time that would just be madness.
>>
Would anyone be interested in a quest where the players act as a butler to a vampire countess, doing chores, running errands, slaying monsters, and fighting other supernatural "manors"?
>>
>>212621
Question
Will there be extremely suggestive content regarding the countess being our mistress?

If so then you'll gain a shit load of players.
If not, you'd probably still get a few. Supernatural stuff is cool and vampires aren't all that common in quests from what I've seen.
>>
>>212632
She would definitely tease the protagonist, but players wouldn't be able to make any real moves on her until they got powerful enough to impress her, as they would start out as a relatively weak new employee.

Hey, YOU! Yeah, you over there. Do you like fascinating plot arcs, deep, well-developed, likable characters and interesting villains? Well this isn't the quest for you.

Generic Fantasy Quest: The Legend of the Eight Magical Macguffins is basically Paper Mario or any mediocre JRPG but a lot shittier.

And it isn't an RPG.

Go check it out if you like really, really stupid memes and shit like that new frog-on-a-unicycle Facebook one. Otherwise, it'll give you leukemia.

ok im done shilling
>>
>>212788
Depends what you're looking for, bud. I'm not about to suggest my own quest, but I've personally found Audit Quest, the Jara Quests, and Fox Fire Quest both pretty entertaining and interesting
>>
>>212665
Well, the basic plotline right now is that particularly powerful vampires assemble a sort of clan of other supernaturals called "manors" to fight other vampires for dominance. The countess, whose manor the player joins, has basically taken a really long break from the fighting, and for whatever reason has decided to get back in the game. Story arcs (if it's even successful enough to have multiple) would mainly be defeating other manors that pissed the countess off.
The only problem I have is giving the player a reason for even joining the manor in the first place, since you basically sell your soul.
>>
>>212812
>The only problem I have is giving the player a reason for even joining the manor in the first place, since you basically sell your soul.
The MC is near death and is approached by said Countess or any of her servants. The MC accepts the offer of immortality (or whatever you have in mind) and the potential to grow powerful in exchange for their soul and eternal servitude to the Countess?
>>
>>211654

Seriously, you only have yourself to blame. Those people who had a bone to pick with your quests turns out, probably had a good point after all.
>>
>>212809
Well I meant something that is finished. I've been following audit and Jara, sorry that I don't actually know much about your quest. I'm looking for something that is most renowned in the community. I haven't seen any other quests that isn't born in /qst/ sadly so I'm not the most well read on these things. Even on /qst/ I haven't read a good majority of them because they are either lack luster or lost under a pile of some not so enjoyable ones which means they are over looked.

Though my quests are more serious than any I've mentioned and I'm looking for something that is serious, something that can scare the players and make them want to do something drastic. Make the players invested in the game. I also want to know if anyone knows tips about filling out characters personalities. I have a few minor characters and I haven't actually gave them a solid backbone, only things they have done and how they reacted in certain times nothing permanent.

>>212829
Or the QM could just not give the player the option. But more of have it when he wakes up and does like a back flash type dealio and show what happened. Preferably what you mentioned as that makes the most sense.
>>
>>212832
I agree the QM would be at fault for running a 'shitty' quest. Though I would of probably worded it a little nicer.

>>
>>212812
I kinda like the suggestion here >>212829 But you might get those that say no to fuck with a fresh quest. So giving no choice (or limited choice) is acceptable.

Also
>Motivation to join
Comon man, vampire waifu. Who isn't going to join that shit.

But seriously, try and make our MC sound like a piece of shit in life. Or as in he has no reason to refuse, since his life sucks and/or he doesn't care if he dies. That would get people in the mind of the MC

And this doesn't mean anything about where players guide our personality because hey. Maybe vampirism makes you an entirely new person (literally).
>>
>>212849
I used it in a self-effacing way. The people who follow them enjoy them, and that's what is important to me going forward.

I'll probably go with that and another idea I had where the protag signs up to work at the mansion, but it's really just a way to get food for the countess.
So, when would be a good time for a first post?
>>
>>212835
No worries brah, It's my job to establish a lasting quest in the first place, after all.

As far as filling character personalities, just write. Not necessarily quests, but write for fun and in whatever interests you. In fact, it would probably better to look for practice and references outside of quests. Making human-like characters takes a bit of personal insight and experience.

As far as renowned quests go, are you looking specifically /qst/ or does old /tg/ count as well? I don't think anything here count be really counted as "well established" yet

I wasn't saying that quest was shit, I was just agreeing that it would be the QMs fault if the QM ran a shit quest. Having a shit quest and a underplayed quest are two very different entities. That being said a quest that is amazing can have very little players and a quest that is shit can have a lot of players. I'm probably misunderstanding something as I read back to some of the replies but the point still stands. And I know that I, myself, is subject to problems mentioned.

>>212895
>are you looking specifically
/qst/ doesn't have the perfect amount of players and QMs that would allow something truly great to live, I would like to look into something that is well known and being well known and popular within the community would mean it can't really be in /qst/ like how you mentioned.

=--=--=
Also what time do you guys think first rolls should be used instead of popular vote? I like to use first rolls or highest rolls when in combat which gives a good way to still seem unpredictable at times instead of having it more railroaded. Do you agree? if not what other ways do you guys suggest?
>>
>>212952
But anons and the QM won't have their super power fantasy if other males get anything.

Why do you think most of the ships crew was women?
>>
>>212933
Actually, no. It was assumed based on the initial medical examination when they were captured THAT they were somewhere in the mid to late teens. Based on epiphyseal fusion.

Not saying that the whole thing wasn't a mistake. I'd be the first to admit it. But the people who are still legitimately salty over it seem like they WANT to stay salty, and either ignore the facts or misrepresent them to justify their salt.

Lately I've been having Life Issues, so when it'll actually be a thing is a little up in the air.

>>212962
Oh yeah, I know.

That quest had the unfortunate side effect of the only cool men being older guys who were arguably too old to fuck any of the chicks while any guy around the MC's age was a loser faggot or just not around.

The amount of salt mining off of Char was stupid.

the all female crew was a red flag, and then of course it developed into harem because it always develops into harem.

But I mean, lolnewtypes is as good an explanation as any for that. There is one canon character male who i believe his power was seducing female newtypes to his side.

Keep in mind though, when you say invested players making drastic choices I interpret that as high-drama high-sperge quests, but there's some low-drama mild-sperge quests with serious tones too, though much fewer.

Vaelys yelled at me. This is a pattern for a lot of poor decisions in my QMing.

>>
>>213119
To be fair, you have to understand the audience.

This was a quest people were into because mecha and Gundam and blowing shit up.

Harem of waifus on the side, sure lolynaut.

Suddenly the MC is forced by dice into fucking a character most of these Gundam fans know looks like a 12 year old in canon who magically doesn't look like a 12 year old in this fanfiction version of canon because reasons.

Suddenly a lot of normies are alarmed because they think they're now playing a literal pedophile and of course a shitstorm occurred.

Neat.
I mean, I love me some harems, but I guess it is sorta the easy way out. Or at least makes things feel less like a quest and more like an anime.

I wonder if anyone's ever made a harem make perfect sense and fit the canon perfectly.
Assuming the canon isn't batshit crazy anyway I guess.

>>213164

Ooooooh. Okay. I guess that explains why people lost their minds. Fans of stuff tend to do that over tiny changes.

Sorry to that one QM guy. Your decision wouldn't have bothered anyone nearly as much if it was original canon I bet. Still doesn't bother me worth a fuck.

There will be variations on it, trust me anon. Some would be basically magic condensers, some would only use the magic as the spark for the projectile, while the majority would use proper gunpowder.

In a world where everyone can access the inherent magic that resides in the sky around them in one form or another, and where resources are extremely scarce for the common people, fighters have to make due somehow.

Each type would have their bonuses/weaknesses, don't worry.

I can field some questions about the quest-in-development, if you want to ask anything. It will be a high fantasy tale, with exploration and adventure being integral parts of it. Though there are 4 different storylines I am lining up, all which will be unique...

> QM Question:
I had the idea of running an Idol Management Quest set in a not-Starship Troopers universe. The idea is that you're using the Idols to sell a war through propaganda and celebrity endorsement antics and what not, all while being a comfy SoL in the foreground of an interstellar war. Sell war bonds, drive up recruitment rates, and help the Federation get the finances it needs to fund its war against the Bugs.

I actually wanted to try and run it this week but I hit a block in my thinking. I think the concept would get old kind fast not to mention I have no idea how idols actually work. A satirical tone like the Starship Troopers movie is definitely how it's gonna be run though while merging elements from the anime and books, mostly the power armor.
>>
>>213218

>>213142

Not really a bad experience (I let the dice fall where they may, and look forward to unusual outcomes) but the players inexplicably decided to sleep with a woman they could barely tolerate and had shown no sexual interest in before, up to that point.

Until today, and the whole catastrophic chain of events that followed, I'm still scratching my head at the train of thought that lead to this conclusion.

It just seems that PCs have trouble making emotional commitments. At times, I can't help but think that there's a reason for some archetypes in anime after all, given how I've seen people behave.
>>
>>213349
I mean this certainly sounds similar to Banished.
>>
>>213355
Nah. It might be Joker.
>>
>>213349
>Being confused why anons are emotionally unstable
I can't really imagine why, no.

But seriously, that's part of the fun for me in waifu quests. To watch them tear themselves apart or to haremize.

And I don't mean that like 'yeah fuck those quests'. I think the length some anons go to defend their waifu is quite literally part of why those quests can be so crazy. Part of the fun I think.
>>
>>213363

To clarify, it wasn't a 'wrong' decision - There are no 'wrong' decisions, and I do my best to avoid trap options - it's just puzzling, given what I knew of the MC's characterization.

I'm not a fan of harems, because I don't believe that something like that can function. More, it can feel like a disservice to the characters, sort of lumping them together. I prefer character interactions to be emotionally intense or dramatic, so there's a sense of tension that's similar to a battle; part of a Quest's appeal is that all decisions are final and forever. You can't replay to see what roads-not-taken are like.

This isn't accusatory, but it feels like hard choices can paralyze players. Generally, I think, there's the urge to want to please everyone which is impossible.
>>
>>213374
Well you have to remember. You're not playing with one guy. You're playing with 3. Or 5. Or maybe more if you're super lucky.

So yeah, you're right. The tension of 'can't play again' makes it rough. But that also means that some people are fucking pissed that they won't ever get to see their way of playing it work out, you know?

That, on top of the fact that anon cannot into female doesn't help.

Rolled with a meme option since thread 1. I thought it was fun and it would be interesting to work a joke option into something presentable. Genre Shift pulled it off but my joke option killed my readerbase (aside from a few stragglers). Also, wording the OP in a way that turned off prospecting players even more. But that one's on me.

Hopefully I get a second chance to set this right now that my current thread is in autosage.

From what I remember that was more-or-less a result of players being first paralyzed by the gravity of the situation and then rushing because of the assumption they wouldn't be able to secure her loyalty and further assistance without going along with her whims, as at that point in the quest there was a distinct sense that they'd if she decided to cut off her support again.

Unimportant. Watch Idolm@ster (or AKB0048 if you can tolerate garbage).

Do idol things like live concerts and promo videos and also military things, like massacring bugs on camera. Then the plan goes wrong.

Been trying to binge on Idolmaster and MercCommand's Cyberpunk Idols for ideas.

However, the idea is that I want to keep it a comfy CGDCT SoL from the perspective of the Idols, while everything that the Producer (you) does is mostly in the name of keeping himself off the frontline (because he- and by extension you- know how fucking awful it is on the frontline even if it is in the name of citizenship).
>>
>>214406
>>However, the idea is that I want to keep it a comfy CGDCT SoL from the perspective of the Idols
Then there's no real point in the militaristic setting.

It serves to give a contrast between the grim-darkness of the world and the kira kira charm of the idols, but it doesn't work if you don't have at least SOME of that grim darkness come into your idol world. Basically push both aspects to the extreme, rather than having an insipid SoL, go over the top with the otaku pandering shit, then hit the readers around the head with WAR IS HELL.

Maybe it would be a good idea for you to try AKB0048, it is terrible but it's literally space idols fighting nazis.
>>
>>214446
The point of the idea is that you're not supposed to allow the grimdark stuff come into the public eye. That means you have to coddle the Idols and by extension the general public and avert their eyes from the grim reality of it.

The grimdark stuff is most likely going to be conveyed through the Producer himself, an Army Officer that's already had a taste of the war and found it so detestable that he doesn't want to go back.

While I do think of bringing in some of the war into the Idol World, I do feel like it ruin the point of the Quest. The point is that you're supposed to make the War feel glorious, an obvious failure that gets someone hurt or worse would undermine that.
>>
>>214512
>>The point of the idea is that you're not supposed to allow the grimdark stuff come into the public eye
Yes, but it's in the quest. The players literally have to interact with it or there's no reason for it to be there outside of PTSD flashbacks to make your protag more edgy and mature than his charges.

A pitch like yours would be best served following this narrative.

Idols exist to excite the population of a militaristic regime. To justify their position they have to promote different branches of the establishment (including sexy administrators I guess). So they're girls in uniform.

They have no credentials if you don't do photoshoots with them in fatigues and holding guns or whatever. So you'll have to do that. In a world where people are expected to be tough, they have to be tough and beautiful at the same time.

However, a batshit insane military government would go a step further and make propaganda videos of them literally engaged in warfare. Girls that get maimed or killed are covertly retired or 'graduate'. Nobody cares that much about individual idols in real life when there's a trillion girls just like them ready to replace them. Super nerdy fans will mourn them for a while then move onto the next best thing.

So your story plan would go something like this.

>you get fresh-faced recruits
>you form an idol group that plays on their strengths
>you do concerts, TV, radio, photoshoots, whatever
>you grow popular enough to start considering the big leagues, but to do that you need serious street cred i.e combat experience
>so begins the most dangerous part of any idols career - the Live Tour of Duty
After that you can start getting involved in politics or running solar-system wide advertising campaigns. This point is where the idols own role models should be at the beginning.

Add in the government bureaucrats, producers, army officers and former idols and your cast is sorted.
>>
>>214551
Just because you're not actively in the War doesn't mean the War isn't there outside of the protag's bubble.

However, the premise that you present is kind of interesting.

I'll definitely give it some thought.
>>
>>214665
>However, the premise that you present is kind of interesting.
You said that you're following Starship Troopers, where you literally can't be a citizen without military service. I don't see why that wouldn't apply to the girls as well.
